October 2018 On Discovery Family Africa

Made By Destruction
From Wednesday 24 October at 18:30
Some everyday items that are thrown into the trash without a second thought have the potential for a brand new life, as they are destroyed and transformed by incredible technology to be reborn into modern marvels. But just how are recoverable and recyclable materials from discarded objects retrieved and reused? This informative series follows the life cycle of materials as they are stripped apart and reborn as new and wildly different tools. Train tracks go back on the rails as a luxury car; detergent jugs are reborn as a durable parking pad; aluminium ladders melt down into parts for oil tankers; and wax cardboard boxes shred into fire logs. These are some of the items that undergo an extraordinary transformation. Once these objects have been destroyed, the programme follows their journey across the world to their final destination - and the factory where it all gets put back together again into a different product.

Weather Gone Viral
From Thursday 11 October at 18:30
When wild weather strikes, it takes just minutes - or sometimes only seconds - to turn an extraordinary scene into chaos. For unsuspecting onlookers, extreme weather can lead to sheer terror as Mother Nature's wrath descends upon them. This series jumps into the epicentre of the action as meteorological phenomena, from lightning storms and tsunamis to tornadoes and flash floods, are all caught on camera. Survivors give first-hand accounts of the treacherous conditions they experienced, and meteorologists also share their tales of being on the front line of extreme weather. These incredible images could be mistaken for moments from a blockbuster movie, but these weather wonders prove that reality is stranger than fiction; and serve as a reminder of the monumental power - and the fury - of Mother Nature.
