August 2020 On CBS Justice Africa | New Scotland Yard Files | The Real Prime Suspect Weekend

NEW SCOTLAND YARD FILES
Season 1. Continuing Premiere
ORIGINAL TRUE CRIME SERIES
Sundays at 20:00, until 16th August
In “New Scotland Yard Files”, current and former New Scotland Yard detectives open their files to tell the inside stories of how they caught some of the capital's most notorious killers by following the ABC of the detective world: accept nothing, believe nobody and challenge everything.

The series is presented by former New Scotland Yard detective Peter Bleksley, who brings unique insight into the workings of murder investigations, with contributions from the journalists who covered the stories as they unfolded, criminologists who analyse the methods and motives of the murderers and forensic specialists who provide vital evidence to ensure the guilty are convicted.
Episode 4, on-air on 5th July, focuses on death of Michael Menson, who had been part of a successful pop band in the 1980's. When police found him with horrible burns in Edmonton, north London, they assumed he had set fire to himself. But Michael, who had a history of mental illness, told his family he'd been attacked. They campaigned to get the police to investigate, but to no avail. Michael died in hospital 16 days later. Nearly two years after that, New Scotland Yard launched an investigation into his death. Using surveillance techniques previously applied in the conflict in Northern Ireland, they managed to get the evidence needed to convict those responsible. Michael's murder led to changes in the way New Scotland Yard officers treat race and mental illness during investigation process.
