M-Net Essentials (ME) joins the DStv family from 1st November on channel 115 as a replacement for both M-Net City and VUZU featuring a variety of reality and drama series alongside movies.
As stated earlier by MultiChoice, Me will also be used for all the local content coming to M-Net such as The Bachelorette SA, Lioness and the first season of M-Net's popular local drama, Legacy.
Usually when M-Net or 1Magic pick up local content. They usually shove the reruns on Mzansi Magic and Mzansi Wethu.
With Me, taking up the responsibility of not only the international but local aspects of M-Net. It wouldn't make any sense for all these shows to play on Mzansi Magic.
Mzansi Magic is a Compact channel that is higher than a Family channel which is where Me resides so it seems only logical for all these local shows on Me to skip Mzansi Magic and move over to Mzansi Wethu where viewers aren't familiar with the programs to avoid tension between customers.
Mzansi Magic is already having a hard time being a hotspot for 1Magic's local content and Mzansi Wethu airing repeats from Me will help differentiate the channel from Mzansi Magic.
In a way, Me's presence does cause a disturbance with Mzansi Wethu. Seeing that Family customers relied on the brand for all their local dramas and reality shows adding Me reduces that audience once any of their shows air on Mzansi Wethu.
