Nickelodeon Acquires International Rights To CGI Animated Series, ‘The Marsupilamis'

Paramount’s Nickelodeon has acquired the rights to the CGI animated series The Marsupilamis, a fresh take on the beloved kids brand, for markets outside of the U.S.

“This fresh take on the iconic character, created over 70 years ago by Belgian author André Franquin, brings the legendary Marsupilami from the wild Palombian jungle into the heart of the city,” said Nickelodeon, which is part of Paramount, now owned by Skydance.

The 52 episodes of 11 minutes are produced by Ellipse Animation and Belvision.

“Slated to launch in 2026, the comedic, action-packed new series follows twins Jade and Mica who find their world turned upside down when their explorer parents entrust them with three mysterious Marsupilami eggs,” according to a plot description. “Once they hatch, the siblings must get creative to keep their new friends hidden – after all, no one knows these energetic creatures exist, and predators could be lurking around every corner.”

The series is directed by Célestine Jacquel-Plays (Grizzy and the Lemmings). Andrew Barnett Jones and Ciaran Murtagh (The Amazing World of Gumball) served as head writers, with Guilhem Deckers (Minions 2) being the artistic director.

Blast From The Past. Disney Channel Set To Relaunch In The UK On October 3rd

5 years ago, Disney made the decision to shutter most of its linear operations in the UK, Asia, Italy and Turkey and this included various feeds for the Disney Channel and National Geographic. At the time, the goal for the company was to get consumers onto its streaming service, Disney+.

Since it's inception, Disney+ is still not accessible in some European and African countries despite closing brands like FOX in the market. Now it appears as if Disney may be looking to revive it's operations in these affected markets with Disney Channel set to relaunch in the UK.

According to Digital Spy and various viewers, Sky has been testing its frequencies for a channel under the placemat Disney Junior. Big City Greens will be the first show to be broadcast on the channel with other shows such as Wizards Beyond Waverly Place and Miraculous: Tales Of Ladybug And Catnoir.

Disney Channel's relaunch in the UK would come 5 years after Disney made the bold move in shuttering it's operations. Of course this time, Disney Junior instead of operating as a 24 hour channel will most definitely operate as a daytime block as seen in other regions.

Disney hasn't stated the reason for the sudden decision to relaunch Disney Channel in the UK but if we had to guess several factors likely contribute to its sudden inclusion.

First, Disney Channel's removal stemmed from a carriage dispute with Sky Group in the UK so unlike FOX maybe this wasn't the Disney's intended target. Another with consumer backlash led to the creation of the forum Bring Back Disney Channel UK which highlights the gap left by its competitors.

Lastly, Disney has emphasized providing "multiple entry points to our storytelling." While streaming remains core, reinstating linear channels allows Disney to reach households without reliable broadband or those preferring scheduled TV which in return would help bolster it's Disney+ offering.

The relaunch coincides with Disney's "Reflection" era rebranding for its US Disney Channel, suggesting a unified push for fresh programming. In October, Disney Channel set to rollout the fifth season to Phineas And Ferb alongside a new original movie Zombies 4:Dawn Of The Vampires

**Canyon Valley, Bikini Bottom, and Royal Woods. These three city names summarize all the premieres expected this month.**

At the start of the month, new episodes of the much-anticipated *The Wylde Pack* series, which debuted in the final days of September, are arriving. The new episodes will continue to air on weekday evenings. However, this batch includes an 11-minute Halloween-themed banned episode that was later removed from the schedule. Interestingly, it currently looks like we’ll be getting three episodes as world premieres, and due to different episode numbering compared to the U.S., a full 22-minute episode will temporarily be skipped in our broadcasts.

Still staying in early October: *The Loud House* continues with its ninth season on Nickelodeon. As usual, there are banned episodes that will later appear on Nicktoons and SkyShowtime. However, the channel has a surprise in store for fans of the series. Fans surely know that a certain episode from Season 6 has never aired here, even though the opportunity was there years ago—probably for a reason. But that might change this year: for Halloween, two (technically three) new episodes will debut. The more recent Halloween double episode from Season 8 will be prioritized and will also air on Nicktoons a few days after the main channel. And after a few days, there’s a chance that the long-missing Season 6 Halloween episode will also finally be shown on Nickelodeon—an episode which has been rerun several times on the sister channel over the years.

Since Halloween has come up, it’s time to mention the *Patrick Star Show*’s holiday episode, which is airing thanks to the spooky season. This is the final missing piece of Season 3, which will thus conclude in our region at the end of the month. Lastly, only *SpongeBob SquarePants* is lucky enough to get a mention in this article. The series last had new episodes in May, and now after five months, it’s time again. The final episodes of Season 15 will air starting mid-October, while the first episode of Season 16 is scheduled for the end of the month.

Halloween has already been mentioned multiple times, but let’s get into the details. This year, the channel is preparing a more elaborate event than usual—a whole week of spooky fun. Not non-stop, of course, but for most of the day, scary-themed episodes from favorite shows will take over the schedule. From October 27 to November 2, from morning to evening, selected episodes from the channel’s popular series will be shown, including the new Halloween premieres and their reruns. No old shows will return, just to answer that ahead of time.

And finally, a small editorial note: it's particularly noticeable with *The Wylde Pack* that episodes are scheduled irregularly, often airing out of order in rerun slots. This may change by the time of actual airing, but it's worth keeping this in mind until there’s an official update. In the proper premiere slots, the episodes will air in the correct order, so anyone following that block won’t miss a single episode.

The preschool-focused channel is delivering excitement on several fronts. Where to begin? Let’s start with the last-minute update for the month: *Blaze and the Monster Machines* is being completely removed from the schedule—even though new episodes were originally planned for October. While other regional feeds still include the show, and our November schedule hasn’t yet been updated (meaning Blaze is still present there), viewers may have reason to worry that the network is planning to phase out the show entirely.

In place of *Blaze and the Monster Machines*, *Rubble & Crew* episodes will mostly take over the late-night time slot. As a result, the Season 3 premiere originally set for mid-month is currently being aired earlier in that overnight slot. However, as we’ve seen before, this could change at the last minute. These suspected early premieres are marked in **purple**, indicating they may be swapped out by the network just before airing.

Continuing from late September, the new show *Tim Rex in Space* will run throughout most of the month. In fact, right after the Season 1 finale, they’ll kick off Season 2 with at least one new episode.

Nick Jr. hasn't forgotten about Halloween either. They’ll celebrate for a full week, airing spooky-themed episodes across nearly all time slots throughout the day. Special premieres are also scheduled as part of this Halloween week. It kicks off with a **Season 3 episode of Dora**, and on **Halloween Day itself**, the finale of *The Tiny Chef Show* is expected to premiere—though curiously, it’s actually the **season opener**. However, we say “expected” because this could also be pulled at the last minute, just like Blaze’s planned Halloween episode.

In the first few days of October, the current new episodes will finish airing, after which the Halloween marathon will bring spooky-themed episodes, including one from **Season 3** of *The Patrick Star Show*. Also part of this Halloween marathon will be *The Loud House* Halloween double episode, which will mark the end of the 13-episode **Season 8**. Ultimately, the little yellow sponge, **SpongeBob SquarePants**, will also make his return, which is expected to happen early in the month. KykNet & Kie has acquired broadcasting rights to Dikker As Water (Kızılcık Şerbeti), its first Turkish drama in 9 months with the first season slated to replace Plaas Van Paase on October 14. Dikker As Water is currently on its fourth season in Turkey and this will be the channel's first longer form series.

It stars Barış Kılıç as Ömer Ünal, Evrim Alasya as Kıvılcım Arslan, Settar Tanrıöğen as Abdullah Ünal and Sıla Türkoğlu as Doğa Korkmaz as leads.

"Dikker As Water" tells the captivating story of the idealistic Doga falling hopelessly in love with a charming man from a devout family whose values clash with those of her mother, creating a powerful drama as they seek to overcome their differences and find harmony.

It explores the powerful evolution in the idealistic Doga when she finds love at the start of university with a man whose beliefs conflict with those of her mother, Kivilcim. An unexpected pregnancy is set to turn Doga’s life plans upside down, shaking to the core two families from different worlds.

Fatih comes from a devout family. He seeks a serious relationship, which he finds when he and Doga fall in love. Kivilcim’s fears about their romance are fulfilled when her daughter becomes pregnant. Fatih sees this as a gift from God, but Kivilcim warns it will destroy Doga’s life, convincing her to have an abortion.

Kivilcim’s devastation is complete when Doga skips the abortion and instead marries Fatih. The modern, secular Kivilcim finds herself bound to Fatih’s religious family, with a headscarf-wearing mother and a father who prays five times a day. She is convinced their marriage is doomed by the differences between them.

Scandal! Has Been Cancelled On e.tv After 20 Years With The Final Episode Slated For June 2026

According to South African journalist Thinus Ferreira, e.tv has cancelled Scandal after 20 years with The Ochre Moving Pictures production concluding in June 2026. It follows a slate of long running shows to get cancelled including E! News on E! (soon Bravo) and Catfish: The TV Show on MTV.

"While it is bittersweet to say goodbye, we are proud of the legacy Scandal! leaves behind," says Stan Joseph, Ochre Moving Pictures executive producer.

"We are proud of what Scandal! has achieved, not only as a top-rated TV property but also as a vital part of South Africa's cultural landscape," says Helga Palmer, eMedia local programming boss. "We thank the entire production team, the cast and our loyal viewers."

Scandal! premiered in 2005 as a half-hour weekday drama airing at 19:30 on e.tv, South Africa's leading free-to-air commercial channel. It has been a staple of local television, focusing on themes of betrayal, desire, family drama, business intrigue, and social issues in a Johannesburg setting.

Over its run, it has featured iconic characters like the Kunene family and high-stakes plots involving corporate espionage and personal scandals. The show has built a massive fanbase, with its official Facebook page boasting over 1.3 million likes and active daily engagement.

e.tv hasn't stated the reason for the demise of Scandal! but several reasons could contribute to the issue.

In August 2025, eMedia Investments informed investors of plans to cancel one of its weekday dramas to reduce operational costs. Scandal! was selected, likely due to its high production expenses amid rising inflation and economic pressures in the broadcasting sector.

Another could be viewer preferences as some describe the show as having become "tired" after two decades, with ratings potentially stagnating.

How SuperSport Is Impacted By The Canal+ Acquisition?

Not long ago, Canal+ SA had completed its acquisition of South African pay-TV operator MultiChoice Group, securing a 48.2% stake in the company.

The transaction, which Canal+ described as its largest ever, creates a global media and entertainment group serving more than 40 million subscribers across nearly 70 countries in Africa, Europe, and Asia, with approximately 17,000 employees.

Since the merger, there had been a great deal of concern amongst the media regarding SuperSport and Canal+ was quick to clarify that the deal wouldn't lead it to become Canal+ Sport. Of course, they've been talking about synergies in the last couple of months.

In Francophone Africa, MultiChoice has been distributing an add on service to Canal+ Afrique consumers known as DStv English Plus. It offers Premier League and La Liga for instance I'm assuming those are the type of synergies they're referring.

Before the merger, Canal+ didn't have much sporting rights for consumers in Africa as seen in Europe and France so they'd license content from rivals such as Bein Sports and DAZN. Under this merger, SuperSport will most definitely need to align with its French equivalent Canal+ Sport.

If Canal+ Afrique distributed Ligue 1 through its deal with Bein Sports rather than SuperSport launching a dedicated channel it also distributes Bein Sports to prevent any overlaps or duplication. Same goes for doccies like Chasing The Sun which will likely get dubbed rather than retooled into a separate series.

Some revaluation is underway for Showmax in which MultiChoice revamped last year in partnership with NBCUniversal. This could affect Showmax Premier League offering as it would rival with DStv Stream's extensive offering due to its low rates.

MultiChoice is looking to possibly offer SuperSport as a standalone service on DStv combined with Showmax this could as well be Football based package with separate offering for cricket, rugby and tennis. Maybe they could take a page from Ultraview by offering PSL and La Liga separately. 

Finally with a merger there's always potential drawbacks as MultiChoice has lost over a million subscribers in the last year. The acquiring company makes cuts think of the Ethiopian Premier League the losses could affect more niche African leagues.

Discovery Channel Africa Brings Viewers Face-To-Face With Legends In Mysterious Creatures With Forrest Galante

Discovery Channel Africa is excited to bring viewers the premiere of Mysterious Creatures with Forrest Galante, airing Saturday, 4 October at 21:00 CAT on DStv channel 121.

 

The series follows wildlife biologist and conservationist Forrest Galante as he travels the globe investigating strange sightings, legendary creatures and mysterious encounters between humans and wildlife. Catfish: The TV Show Currently Seen On MTV And eReality Has Been Cancelled After 9 Seasons

“Catfish: The TV Show” is dead in the water.

The reality show that investigated deceptive online relationships has been canceled at MTV after nine seasons. The network is allowing the producers to shop the series elsewhere.

Hosted by Nev Schulman, “Catfish” helped people discover the truth about their suspicious digital romances — and sometimes come to terms with the person on the other side of the computer screen. The series is based on Schulman’s 2010 documentary of the same name, which coined the term “catfish” for someone who uses a false identity or stolen photos to deceive others on the internet.

Developed by Schulman, Ariel Schulman and Max Joseph, “Catfish: The TV Show” debuted in 2012 on MTV and ended with Season 9 in July 2024. Nev Schulman and Joseph co-hosted the show for its first seven seasons. In 2018, Joseph was replaced by a rotating list of presenters, including Elle King, Nick Young and Machine Gun Kelly. Eventually, Kamie Crawford joined as a permanent host, joining Schulman for 96 episodes.

“Catfish” not only gave a name to the phenomenon of digital deception. The series also spawned international spinoffs in Colombia, Chile, Brazil, Mexico and the United Kingdom. Its legacy continues on-screen: a recent episode of “The Paper” centered on an employee being catfished by someone impersonating a celebrity, and the current No. 1 documentary on Netflix is titled “Unknown Number: The High School Catfish.”

Since the end of Season 9, the status of “Catfish: The TV Show” was up in the air, as it had not received a renewal or cancellation from MTV amid the restructuring of the Paramount merger. Last month, Schulman announced he had earned his real estate broker’s license and would be helping people buy and sell homes in New York.

eVOD, a South African based streaming service operated by eMedia Investments has announced the addition of Vlymskerp. Known in Turkey as Gaddar, the series will begin streaming on the platform from September 26 

Synopsis for Vlymskerp 

The story centers on Dağhan, a young man whose life unravels after heartbreak. When his girlfriend Aydan leaves him without explanation, Dağhan enlists in the military, serving in a special unit in eastern Turkey for two grueling years. Upon returning home, he finds his world shattered: his family is fractured—his sister has eloped, his younger brother Rüzgar has descended into crime, and his parents are in despair. His neighborhood is overrun by gangs and corruption.

Desperate to protect his loved ones, Dağhan reluctantly accepts a job as a hitman for a local crime boss. Vlymskerp was broadcast on Turkish broadcaster NOW on 19 January 2024 and concluded on 7 June 2024 after 20 episodes each with a 2 hour duration. NOW is known for a variety of shows including Dokter Ali, #DisComplicated, Doodsondes and Daai Crazy Somer.

In other developments, eMedia Investments has nabbed rights to Pinkalicious And Peterrific and also Tree Fu Tom for its eToonz channel. Prior to that, it was announced that the sixth season of MasterChef SA would broadcast on e.tv and be made available on Openview.

New On Play Room: LEGO DREAMZZZ And LEGO Friends: Girls On A Mission - Release Date And What To Expect

Following its rollout on Cartoon Network and eToonz both of are distributed on MultiChoice's DStv consumers in South Africa. Play Room is set to allocate two shows from LEGO Group - LEGO DREAMZZZ in Zulu and LEGO Friends: Girls On A Mission.

Synopsis for LEGO DREAMZZZ

LEGO DREAMZZZ follows Mateo, Izzie, and their friends after they discover the Dream World is a real place connected to the waking world. They learn they are "Dream Chasers," a secret group that can enter the Dream World to help children who are trapped or terrorized by the evil Nightmare King.

The series airs every Saturday at 17:15 from 4 October.

Canal+ Is Now In Full Control Of MultiChoice After Securing The Remaining 48% Stake + More Restructuring Underway

French media company Canal+ SA has completed its acquisition of South African pay-TV operator MultiChoice Group Limited, securing a 48.2% stake in the company, according to a joint announcement released Monday.

The transaction, which Canal+ described as its largest ever, creates a global media and entertainment group serving more than 40 million subscribers across nearly 70 countries in Africa, Europe, and Asia, with approximately 17,000 employees.

Canal+ directly owns 46.0% of MultiChoice shares and has received acceptances for an additional 2.2%, making its mandatory cash offer of 125 South African rand per share now unconditional.

Following the acquisition, MultiChoice has restructured its board with Maxime Saada, CEO of Canal+, appointed as Chairman. David Mignot will serve as CEO and Nicolas Dandoy as CFO of Canal+ African operations, which includes MultiChoice. Former MultiChoice CEO Calvo Mawela will chair Canal+ African operations.

The company has completed a corporate reorganization to comply with South African broadcasting regulations regarding foreign ownership. As a result, voting scale-back provisions that previously restricted foreign shareholders’ voting rights have been removed.

In South Africa, Canal+ has committed to supporting firms controlled by Historically Disadvantaged Persons and maintaining funding for local entertainment and sports content produced by South African creators.

MultiChoice will change its financial year-end from March 31 to December 31 to align with Canal+’s reporting period.

Canal+ plans to provide a strategic update on the combined group, including detailed plans and expected synergies, during the first quarter of 2026.

Warner TV Might Be Getting A Name Change

Warner TV is a general entertainment channel operated by Warner Bros. Discovery who by next year will be split into two separate companies, Warner Bros. and Discovery Global. Similar to Cartoon Network, Warner TV might be undergoing several changes in the coming months. 

Warner TV built it's existence on the Warner Bros. studios lot with a variety of drama series, animated shows and films. For sometime, Warner TV had been extending it's reach in Europe replacing several TNT channels and while some do remain active they have since been flagged as Warner TV.

With this split, I'd imagine the content would be undergoing some type of restructure and Discovery being loaded with debt will likely minimise the amount of content licensed from Warner Bros. They have content from HGTV, Discovery Channel and Food Network maybe that's what fate might await those channels.

As for the name, Warner TV or at least the trademark belongs to Warner Bros. so it's most likely that Discovery will look to rename these brands in the coming months or later in 2026. Best guess would be that channels to have gotten folded under Warner TV revert back to their previous trademark being TNT.

I mean it wouldn't seem far fetched as you look at the streaming service HBO Max which was shortened to Max to alienate it from HBO only for them to abandon those plans. Same thing with the merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery which formed the controversial Warner Bros. Discovery.

If WarnerMedia had retained its cable networks before merging with Discovery I bet it wouldn't be called Warner Bros. whose linear portfolio is limited to just HBO. Global within Discovery wouldn't be there had it not been for Warner's fleet of networks.

BET's Potential Closure Or Exit From Audiences On DStv And The Rest Of Africa Explained

A few months ago, it was reported that Paramount Global prior to its acquisition by Skydance Media is looking to halt local operations in Africa. According to some insiders, Paramount Global is also looking into possibly closing BET and MTV Base in the region.

MultiChoice in a response had stated that they were monitoring the situation and would communicate in due course.

As some consumers know, BET Africa has been seen as the flagship network for shows like Being Mary Jane, The Real Husbands Of Hollywood and Tyler Perry's House Of Payne. It also offered local productions such as uBettina Wethu, Redemption and DJ Zinhle: Bossing Up.

If Paramount Global is looking to do away with BET Africa a number of reasons would factor into this.

When it comes to scale, BET doesn't have much of a global presence as seen with Paramount's other cable networks such as MTV and Comedy Central. The only reason it managed to sustain its operations in Africa is due to the pipeline of local content being funded by Paramount Global.

SABC even MultiChoice's M-Net serve as rivals to BET with shows like Generations: The Legacy, Deal Or No Deal SA, Sibongile And The Dlaminis and Date My Family. In viewers, these shows can get anywhere from 500,000 to a million viewers while Queendom on BET could only garner less than half.

In the UK, Paramount has been trying to push the brand to streaming and seeing as Showmax is the exclusive home to Paramount+. I can only assume a similar strategy is awaiting viewers in Africa with the focus shifting on MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon.

Last year, PBS Distribution halted it's international operations for PBS Kids meaning DStv consumers would lose out on shows like Arthur, Cyberchase and Wild Kratts. Since then, eMedia Investments had been licensing shows from the brand for its eToonz channel.

This includes shows like Let's Go Luna in which PBS Kids had never licensed for Africa but oddly made available to MultiChoice's streaming service, Showmax. With eToonz now looking to allocate one of the former shows of PBS Kids, Pinkalicious And Peterrific.

Synopsis for Pinkalicious And Peterrific 

Designed to encourage preschool-age children to explore the arts and develop their creativity, Pinkalicious & Peterrific follows the adventures of Pinkalicious and her brother Peter as they imagine how the world looks through her artful eye. Each episode consists of two 11 minute stories, including an interstitial live-action segment and an original song.

Pinkalicious And Peterrific airs Wednesdays at 15:30 from 1 October and two days later eToonz will be allocating another preschool series, Tree Fu Tom.

Synopsis for Tree Fu Tom 

In each episode, Tom comes out of his house, puts on a power belt, and runs across his lawn towards a crooked tree in the woods protected by a magic shield. Using the power belt, he performs some Tree Fu moves, jumps up, shrinks to insect size as he flies into the tree, and enters the world of Treetopolis. He is skilled in that world's magic, and often gets characters out of scrapes. Some of the characters are four of Tom's friends, Twigs, Squirmtum, Ariela, and Zigzoo.

Australian Entertainment Platform Fetch TV Faces Another Shake-Up, With Paramount Set To Remove All Of Its Branded Pay TV Channels In The Region

Effective 1 November 2025, Fetch has informed subscribers that the Ultimate Pack will lose a number of channels, including Nick Jr, Nickelodeon, Nick Music, MTV, MTV Hits, Club MTV, MTV 80s, MTV 90s and MTV 00s.

In a note to users, Fetch explained:

“There will also be changes to the inclusions in the Premium Channel packs as Paramount have made the decision to remove their Pay TV channels from all platforms within Australia.”

The move comes despite both companies reaching “an agreement on a long-term extension of their channel partnership” earlier in 2024, which had secured existing channels and introduced MTV 90s and MTV 00s as part of an expanded deal.

Paramount has gradually wound back its local pay TV offerings over the past two years. MTV left rival Foxtel in August 2023, while Nickelodeon switched from Foxtel to free-to-air Channel 13 around the same time, replacing the similarly programmed 10 Shake channel.

More recently, Comedy Central departed Fetch at the end of March 2025, followed by Paramount’s music channels exiting Foxtel in June. The locally programmed CMT (Country Music Channel) was also confirmed to wind down in Australia from the end of July.

In the coming months, Paramount is looking to a round of layoffs or budget cuts following its acquisition by Skydance Media. This would affect the company's local operations in Africa leading to the potential closures of MTV Base and BET in the region.

In Europe, Paramount is halt several MTV channels including Club MTV, NickMusic, MTV 80s, MTV 90s, MTV 00s by 31 December 2025. Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., Nicktoons, MTV and Comedy Central are expected to remain in the region.

Jagriti, The Life Of A Girl Facing Injustice Is Coming Soon To Zee World

The show explores themes of social injustice, discrimination, courage, and the pursuit of a better future, revolving around the life of Jagriti, a young girl from the marginalized "Chitta" community in the fictional town of Mokshgarh, Jharkhand. The Chitta community is unjustly branded as 'criminal' from birth by the oppressive and powerful landlord Kalikant Thakur. The community is denied basic rights, including education, and is forced into a life of crime and labor.

The story begins with seven-year-old Jagriti, who bravely questions the injustices faced by her people. She refuses to accept the societal branding and the tyrannical rule of Kalikant Thakur. Her relentless quest for dignity and rights for her community often puts her in conflict with the landlord and his authority.

The narrative takes a 17-year leap, with an adult Jagriti. After a traumatic childhood, she has been adopted into a wealthy family and has forgotten her past. She has now dedicated herself to becoming an IPS Officer, aspiring to fight for justice and make a difference in society.

In college, she clashes frequently with Suraj Thakur, the arrogant elder son of powerful landlord Kalikant Thakur. Despite their ongoing rivalry, there's an underlying tension between them. Jagriti, however, falls in love with Akash Thakur, Suraj’s younger brother, and they are set to marry. On the day of the wedding, Sapna, who has loved Akash since childhood, switches places with Jagriti. As a result, Sapna marries Akash, and Jagriti unknowingly marries Suraj.

Shortly after, Akash, enraged by the switch, attempts to force himself on Jagriti, but Suraj intervenes and saves her. This marks a turning point in Jagriti’s perception of Suraj. In the aftermath, as she begins to unravel buried memories, Jagriti gradually rediscovers her true identity and her roots in the Chitta community.

Determined to fight the injustice she was born into, she sets her sights on becoming an IPS officer. Suraj undergoes a dramatic transformation, turning against his corrupt father and becoming Jagriti’s strongest supporter. With his help, she clears the UPSC exam and returns to Mokshgarh as a symbol of justice and reform. Over time, the deep bond formed through shared struggle and trust blossoms into love. Jagriti and Suraj fall for each other only after she becomes an IPS officer. When Jagriti is targeted in a bomb attack, Suraj saves her life, cementing their emotional connection. They soon remarry, this time by choice and mutual love.

Jagriti (also known as Jagriti: Ek Nayi Subah) was produced by Zee TV and was broadcast since 16 September 2024 with Rachana Mistry and Vijayendra Kumeria in leading roles. Since it's inception, Jagriti has accumulated over 360+ episodes.

Netflix Reportedly Interested In Acquiring Warner Bros. Discovery

Back in June, reports emerged that Warner Bros. was planning a restructuring that would see the company split in two- one company would contain its studio and streaming assets (HBO, Max, Warner Bros. Television & Motion Pictures, and DC Studios) and the other company would house its linear/cable networks (CNN, TNT, Discovery, etc.).

The split is targeted for completion by mid-2026.

Shortly thereafter, the newly merged studio Paramount Skydance (backed by Oracle founder Larry Ellison) emerged as a likely candidate for the purchase of WB's studio and streaming assets. On the heels of that news breaking, stock prices for both companies surged. 

Now, it seems there's another contender joining the race, according to Puck- none other than Netflix!

However, fans are somewhat worried about the news, as Netflix is definitely a streaming-first, theatrical release-second kind of film studio, which could lead to DC Studios becoming a streaming-only brand.

The Streaming & Studios side of WBD is estimated to be worth about $65 billion, thanks to IP like the heroes and villains from DC Comics, Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings, and a host of other smaller franchises.

Backed by Larry Ellison's wealth, Paramount Skydance is expected to put in a full-cash offer, something that reportedly greatly interests WBD CEO David Zaslav.

On the flipside, Netflix has been open about its strategic shift from just having a lot of content to building a library of powerful franchises. Said co-CEO Ted Sarandos previously, "...you need a lot more than just a big hit every once in a while. … It’s not about the single hit. It’s about a steady drumbeat of shows and films – and, soon enough, games – that our members really love and continue to expect from us.”

In a separate interview, Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings described creating a "competitive moat" of powerful IP and franchises- one that prevents subscribers from leaving for other streaming competitors due to loyalty and infatuation with what Netflix has to offer.

In recent years, Netflix has been somewhat struggling to create such powerful IP with original content, making the theory plausible that the streamer might opt to just buy its major franchise instead of building it.

There's also the question of what happens to the current film and television slate at Warner Bros. after an acquisition, particularly with DC Studios. David Zaslav has given James Gunn and Peter Safran free rein to do as they see fit, but that might all change if Gunn and Safran suddenly find themselves answering to a new boss- especially one that prioritizes streaming over theatrical releases.

ICASA Approves Of The Structure To Be Taken By Canal+ And MultiChoice

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has approved the transfer of control of Orbicom’s electronic communications and radio frequency spectrum licences to Canal+.

Orbicom is MultiChoice’s signal distributor, and the approval is an essential step in progressing Canal+’s takeover of the company.

Orbicom submitted the applications to transfer control of its electronic communications service (I-ECS), individual electronic communications network services (I-ECNS), and Radio Frequency Spectrum licences in November 2024.

Icasa subsequently published its application, inviting stakeholders to submit their comments, in March 2025.

The I-ECNS licence authorises holders to roll out and operate electronic communications networks on a provincial or national scale.

In contrast, the I-ECS licence lets holders provide services to customers using their own or somebody else’s network infrastructure.

The Radio Frequency Spectrum licence enables an organisation to use a specific radio frequency band within a defined geographic area.

Icasa revealed that it had approved the transfer via a notice in the Government Gazette, published on Thursday, 18 September 2025. It granted the approval on 28 August 2025.

The regulator said it evaluated the licence control transfer application on the following criteria:

• Promotion of competition in the ICT sector;

• Interests of consumers; and,

• Equity ownership by Historically Disadvantaged Persons (HDPs).

Interested parties had 14 working days to submit their written representations, with the submission date ending on Monday, 7 April.

The transfer of control of Orbicom’s licences to Canal+ forms part of its acquisition of MultiChoice.

The French media giant had gradually brought up Multichoice shares in the open market since October 2020 and hit the mandatory offer threshold of 35% ownership in early 2024.

Canal+ offered MultiChoice R125 per share after some back-and-forth with MultiChoice and a reprimand from the Takeover Regulation Panel (TRP).

The offer valued MultiChoice at over R55 billion. The deal will cost Canal+ R30 billion in cash, and it has continued acquiring MultiChoice shares while the offer is under consideration until May 2024.

The RTP’s latest report on Canal+’s shareholding in MultiChoice was published in May 2024, revealing that Canal+’s ownership had climbed to 45.2%.

Although Canal+ was legally mandated to offer to acquire the DStv owner, the deal was subject to various regulatory hurdles — some of which have been cleared.

These hurdles include securing approvals from bodies like the Financial Surveillance Department, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, the TRP, and Icasa.

ICT policy legal expert Lisa Thornton previously told the media that the deal’s success will depend on its structure.

MultiChoice and Canal+ had to find a way to limit the latter’s voting rights to 20% — a requirement for broadcasting licences under the Electronic Communications Act.

The deal also had to meet Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) rules set out by Icasa. The rules stipulate that licencees must be 30% owned by historically disadvantaged groups.

To achieve this, MultiChoice South Africa will be carved out as an independent entity referred to as LicenceCo. It will hold the company’s South African operating licences.

LicenceCo will also contract with MultiChoice’s subscribers in South Africa, and the remainder of the group’s video entertainment assets will remain with the MultiChoice Group.

The MultiChoice Group’s shareholding in LicenceCo will give it a 49% economic interest and a 20% share of voting rights.

“MultiChoice Group will retain its existing 75% direct interest in MultiChoice South Africa, excluding LicenceCo. Phuthuma Nathi will similarly retain its existing 25% interest in MultiChoice South Africa,” the companies said.

“LicenceCo will enter into various commercial agreements with MultiChoice Group subsidiaries in relation to the services currently provided to LicenceCo by other MultiChoice Group entities.”

It added that these relate to providing content, technology, subscriber management and support, among other functions.
