Adult Swim Refreshes Its Slate With Brand-New Shows On Showmax

The acclaimed adult comedy brand, Adult Swim, exclusive to Showmax in Africa, will unleash brand-new, bold and irreverent content with the much-awaited launch of Rick and Morty Season 5, three new original series following the US premieres: YOLO: Crystal Fantasy (Season 1); Tigtone (Season 1 & 2); and The Eric Andre Show (Season 5), and The Bleepin’ Robot Chicken Archie Comics Special.

New episodes of Rick and Morty are on the horizon!

Adult Swim has announced its Emmy® Award-winning hit series will roll out the season five premiere across the globe starting on Sunday, 20 June at 11:00 PM ET/PT and are officially declaring it Rick and Morty Day. To join in the action, Rick and Morty enthusiasts across Africa can catch the new episodes from Monday, 21 June, just 24 hours after the US premiere, on the Adult Swim corner on Showmax.

One of the most-binged series on Showmax, all previous seasons are currently available on the streaming platform. To keep fans going until the roll out of the new season, a Rick and Morty special, Rick and Morty In The Eternal Nightmare Machine, will launch on the Adult Swim corner on Showmax on Saturday, 1 May. In this new and original 8-bit animated adventure, the simulation is corrupt, repair the core!

Three brand-new shows, filled with dark humour, satirical fantasy, and anarchic animation, available from Monday, 17 May

YOLO: CRYSTAL FANTASY, Season 1

YOLO: Crystal Fantasy, a quarter-hour American animated comedy series created, and executive produced by Michael Cusack, follows two rowdy Australian party girls, Sarah and Rachel, looking for fun times, new experiences, positive vibes, and hopeful horoscopes in the bizarre town of Wollongong. Sarah’s quest is to find love, whereas Rachel hungers for chaos, often bringing them into conflicts as they encounter surreal Australiana, strange bush creatures, and eccentric nomads.

TIGTONE, Season 1 & 2

Tigtone is the saga of the quest-addicted hero who slashes his way across a satirical fantasy universe with melodramatic ferocity, always obeying the letter of the law but never its spirit. Tigtone is created by Andrew Koehler and Benjamin Martian, who also serve as executive producers with Blake Anderson (Workaholics). The quarter-hour, extremely funny animated series combines highly rendered, hand-painted fantasy art, motion capture performance, 2D animation, and pseudo-3D visual effects.

THE ERIC ANDRE SHOW, Season 5

The Eric Andre Show takes the elements of a traditional late-night talk show and ruins them. Likely the world’s most inept and violent host, Eric Andre interviews A-list talent (such as Seth Rogen, Wiz Kalifa, Judy Greer and Jimmy Kimmel) with the help of co-host Hannibal Buress. Created by Eric Andre, he hosts the most chaotic, unorthodox and surreal comedy chat show around...

Robot Chicken Takes on Riverdale High with

The Bleepin’ Robot Chicken Archie Comics Special

Finally, adding to all previous seasons (1 – 10) of Robot Chicken available on Showmax, the teens at Riverdale High are gifted with their very own skewering stop-motion half-hour special with The Bleepin’ Robot Chicken Archie Comics Special premiering Monday, 24 May (24 hours after the US premiere). Featuring a star-studded voice cast including Fred Armisen, Rachel Leigh Cook, Jane Lynch, Ryan Phillipe, Amy Sedaris, and more, Archie faces the action-packed return of Josie and the Pussycats from outer space to Riverdale in this animated comedy. Featuring the origin of Archie Andrews as only the Robot Chicken writers can tell it! This latest special joins the additional four Robot Chicken specials on the Adult Swim corner on Showmax:  Star Wars Specials #1, #2 and #3 and The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who’s Walking.

The three new shows join the ranks of Adult Swim’s idiosyncratic, unhinged content line up including Mr. Pickles, Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal, Lazor Wulf, and the Mr. Pickles spin-off, Momma Named Me Sheriff.

Adult Swim Africa Releases New Season Of Momma Named Me Sherriff - And More!

New seasons of Momma Named me Sheriff, Lazor Wulf and Ballmastrz: 9009 are lined up this February to give Adult Swim a refresh for 2021. The channel, exclusive to Showmax in Sub-Saharan Africa, is not mincing words about shaking off the shackles of 2020, they mean business! A double-feature drops on the 8th of February, with the launch of Season 2 of Lazor Wulf and Season 2 of Ballmastrz 9009, and, the Sheriff is back in town with Season 2 of the Mr. Pickles spinoff: Momma Named Me Sheriff, available to Africa as part of the international release on Monday, 15 February, just 24 hours after the US premiere !!

What trauma could you be working through, when you’re living at home with your momma, have a doll for a best friend, and you’re the sheriff of Old Town? Yeah, some things are stranger than fiction, for sure! Well, be sure to grab your pudding cups and hold on to something because the sheriff is ready to get to work in Momma Named Me Sheriff Season 2. When havoc breaks loose in Old Town, Sheriff, Deputy Goodman and Dispatch must work together to solve cases and uncover unthinkable mysteries. Aside from the usual charmingly disturbing hijinks, this season you'll finally learn the meaning behind ‘roostering’. Plus, Goodman gets lost in the desert, Dispatch uncovers a secret conspiracy in Old Town, and some dragons take over. That last part isn’t true. Just kidding, it is. Just kidding, it’s not. Just kidding, it’s partially true. No, it’s not. Maybe? Find out on Monday, 15 February.

Created by Henry Bonsu and executive produced by Honsu and rapper, Vince Staples, the pack is back from Monday, 8 February, with Season 2 of the animated series, Lazor Wulf.  This season, Lazor Wulf is about coming back from the DEAD$ and embracing the Scam of Life. It's definitely a quarter-hour series, that definitely has a wolf with a laser on his back, and situations that can be deemed most bizarre.

In Season 2 of Ballmastrz: 9009, created by Christy Karacas, Showmax welcomes The Leptons back!  After the burning spirit of teamwork in their hearts, inspired the offbeat outcasts to win their first game, they’re actually showing moments of non-suckage! Led by Gaz Digzy and supercharged by the awesome power of Ballmastr, the team wrestle new foes as they claw their way to the top. Will the Leptons continue to surprise fans and reach their ultimate goal, or will the seductive distractions of newfound fame sideline them for good? It's survival of the fittest in Ballmastrz: 9009 Season 2, coming Monday, 8 February!

The three shows join the ranks of Adult Swim’s idiosyncratic, unhinged content line up including all seasons of Rick and Morty, Robot Chicken and Mr Pickles, Genndy Tartakovsky’s Primal, and, the bizarre exploits of pseudo-heroic scientist, Dr. Rusty Venture, in The Venture Bros.

Get your Adult Swim fix this February, whenever and wherever you want, only on Showmax!

(UPDATED: 03/09/2020)Sizzling Hot New Adult Swim Content On Showmax From 1 September

Just in time for Spring, the Adult Swim corner dedicated to adult animation, exclusive to Showmax in Africa, will unleash brand-new, bold and irreverent content with the launch of Lazor Wulf and Ballmastrz, Mr. Pickles spinoff: Momma named me Sheriff, and a new season of Venture Bros. This mixed and diverse slate of internationally acclaimed adult-oriented comedy, filled with dark humour and anarchic animation, is guaranteed to keep Adult Swim’s devoted fan base glued to their screens this September.

Adult Swim’s newest animated series, Lazor Wulf, is an acid vision of friendship and modern life from an African-American perspective. The story follows a crafty wolf with a laser on his back who goes on a series of adventures with his friends while hanging out at The Clurb, Esther's, and other neighbourhood hot spots. Uniquely, the series features a predominantly black voice cast, which is still a rarity in animation. Created by Henry Bonsu, the voice cast is led by rapper Vince Staples, who is also an executive producer, along with stand-up comedian J.D. Witherspoon (comedian, actor, YouTuber), professional wrestler and American football player, Ettore ‘Big E’ Ewen, and Quinta Brunson (The Girl Who's Never Been On A Nice Date).

Ballmastrz: 9009, created in 2018 by Christy Karacas, stars Natasha Lyonne as the voice of Gaz Digzy, a mixed-race athletic superstar in a dystopian future where humanity is satiated by a violent sport simply called ‘The Game’. Gaz, the former captain of the best team in The Game, The Boom Boom Boys, is demoted to The Leptons, the worst team in The Game. Her only way back to the top is to somehow lead these pathetic misfits and 'ultimate losers' to victory.

Momma Named Me Sheriff, the spinoff to Mr. Pickles, focuses on Old Town's dim-witted Sheriff, who still lives at home with his Momma and whose best friend is a doll, and he's the Sheriff of Old Town. Created by Will Carsola and Dave Stewart, the series stars Kaitlyn Robrock (ThunderCats Roar, Amphibia), Jay Johnson (Men in Black, Anchorman) and Brook Shields (The Blue Lagoon, That 70’s show, Lipstick Jungle). Mr. Pickles will air its season 4 finale on the 1st of September alongside the Momma named me Sheriff spin-off.

The new shows join Adult Swim staples Rick and Morty, Robot Chicken and Mr. Pickles, which all launched new episodes as part of a global event earlier this year. All series are available in full, exclusively on Showmax in Africa.

Head on over to the Adult Swim corner on Showmax, the #1 destination for original, internationally awarded, and phenomenon-hyped animation, from the 18th of September and not 1st of September, and get an eclectic mix of the off-beat animated series that Adult Swim is known for.

“This is a great opportunity to capitalise on the current success of [adult swim] in Africa following its launch on MultiChoice’s SOVD platform, Showmax, last year November,” says Guillaume Coffin, VP head of commercial and business development, Turner France & Africa.

“We hope that the disruptive entertainment block on TNT will raise further awareness of the [adult swim] brand and its offerings amongst millennials across Africa, driving viewers to [adult swim]’s corner on, Showmax.”

Rick and Morty
The most popular Adult Swim show in South Africa, this animation cult series follows the misadventures of Rick Sanchez, a crazy scientist cynic, and Morty Smith, his grandson, an adolescent who is quite introvert and easily influenced. They spend their time between a domestic life and their inter-dimensional adventures.

Final Space
An astronaut named Gary and his planet-destroying sidekick called Mooncake embark on serialised journeys through space in order to unlock the mystery of where the universe actually ends and if it actually does exist.

Robot Chicken
Robot Chicken is stop-motion pop-culture parodies in fast-paced succession spanning TV, movies, music and celebrity. The award-winning series uses stop-motion animation to bring pop-culture parodies to life in a modern take on the variety/sketch show format.

Adult Swim Makes Its Way To Africa, Turner And Showmax Deal Brings Top U.S. Millennial Channel To Local Shores

The #1 US cable destination for millennials, Adult Swim is set to make waves with its African premiere this month, in a new distribution deal between Turner and African OTT Subscription Video on Demand platform Showmax, owned by the MultiChoice group.

With its epic mix of animation, stop-motion and live action comedy, audiences in South Africa will have access to an extensive catalogue of Adult Swim’s weirdly wonderful, eclectic, surprising, quirky and surreal content for the first time. This includes multi-award-winning animated series Samurai Jack, Robot Chicken, and Rick and Morty, along with fan favourites Aqua Teen Hunger Force, The Jellies; and live action comedies Black Jesus and Eagleheart.

Having proved its zeal for innovation and authentic engagement in the US, Adult Swim now claims 5 of the 10 best comedies launched this year amongst US males 18-34 and 3 of the 10 best comedies amongst all adults*. The brand is set to spread this energy throughout South Africa, where the comedy genre already sees great success.

“Adult Swim does television like no one else and we are excited to bring this cutting-edge programming to young African adults who are on the go. Now available exclusively on Showmax, we are creating a disruptive entertainment experience in a new segment for us in Africa: Millennials. This is a great opportunity to capitalize on the huge success of the brand in the US and engage a new group of fans in South Africa with Adult Swim’s distinctive and visually powerful content” says Guillaume Coffin, VP Head of Commercial and Business Development, Turner France & Africa.
