Disney Channel (DStv Channel 303) Will Be Added To The DStv Compact Plus And Compact Packages From Friday, 1 December 2017

Disney Channel (DStv Channel 303) will be added to the DStv Compact Plus and Compact packages from Friday, 1 December 2017.
. Encapsulating storytelling, friendship, music and laughter, Disney Channel is the home of award-winning hit live-action and animation series, specials and movies.

Now families have got so much more to look forward to these December holidays – and the entertainment won’t stop as Disney Channel is now part of our Compact Plus and Compact packages,” said Aletta Alberts, General Manager for Content for MultiChoice.

To mark the expansion of the channel, fans and new viewers can look forward to a feast of festive fun with the launch of the very latest and greatest programming from Disney Channel.

In October, the stars of hit Disney Channel Original Movie (DCOM), Descendants 2, swung into Jozi on a whirlwind tour to celebrate the film’s release on the channel. The tour was documented and this month we will take a look behind the scenes as Dove Cameron, Cameron Boyce and Thomas Doherty went on safari, sampled a proudly South African braai and tried their hand at traditional warrior dancing! Catch all the local happenings and be sure to tune in as Descendants 2 airs on 3 December at 10:40 to see how the teenage sons and daughters of Disney's most infamous villains - Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay (also known as Villain Kids or VKs) - try to find their place in idyllic Auradon.

K.C. Undercover, the hit spy comedy and action series starring Zendaya has found a new home on Disney Channel with brand new episodes airing each weekend at 09:50. To kick things off, a one hour special called Coopers on the Run will air on 9 December and sees K.C. and her family of spies, along with her BFF Marisa, on the run from archenemy Zane in Rio de Janeiro when they must take on another spy like none before – the fierce and slightly bizarre enemy agent Sheena.

Viewer’s plates continue to fill up as season 2 of the popular local series Disney Cookabout will be served up each Saturday and Sunday at 09:25. Disney Cookabout is a comedic adventure game-show that uses food preparation, cooking and outdoor exploration to showcase local ingredients and a fun-filled approach to healthy eating. Home-grown hosts Kirsten Mohamed and Mthunzi Ntoyi return with a brand new group of cooktestants who travel across the Western Cape in search of the freshest ingredients, returning to the magical Cookabout kitchen to rustle up some tasty dishes.

Fans of animated series are in for a treat as they welcome Disney’s long-haired Princess, Rapunzel, to screens in Tangled: The Series. That sees her acquainting herself with her parents, her kingdom and its people. The hair-raising action kicks off in a 1-hour special Tangled: Before Ever After on 2 December at 08:10, and then Tangled: The Series launches each day from 4 December at 16:00. In addition, viewers will be able to catch up on the latest adventures of Mavis, Dracula’s daughter each day in Hotel Transylvania: The Series from 4 December at 17:45.

Just in time for the festive season, Disney Channel is bringing viewers the best in Disney Channel Original Movies each day at 09:00 from 7 December. Sit back and relax as we bring you the likes of Cloud 9, Adventures in Babysitting, Teen Beach and many more! If that’s not enough, Disney Channel will be celebrating the summer break with the Hilarious Holidays slot that will feature the funniest shows that we have to offer. Tune in from 12:00 each day from 7 December and prepare to be in stitches as Tangled: The Series, Bunk’d, Stuck in the Middle, Bizaardvark and so much more tickles your funny bone!

Fans across the globe are eagerly awaiting the premiere of Raven’s Home in February that sees Raven-Symoné reprising her role as charismatic and somewhat psychic Raven Baxter from the iconic comedy That’s So Raven. In anticipation, Disney Channel viewers can catch every episode ever of That’s So Raven, daily from 7 December at 11:05. To celebrate a full and exciting 2017, Disney Channel will be counting down our top 30 favourite episodes of the year. On 30 and 31 December from 17:50, 15 episodes of the most memorable, exciting, fun-filled and hilarious series will run until midnight! Disney channel will automatically be added to the DStv Compact Plus and Compact packages at midnight on 1 December.

M-Net Movies Zone Goes HD And Has A New Channel Proposition

MultiChoice upgrades M-Net Movies Zone to high definition (HD) from 1 December; channel proposition changing slightly to offer film festivals. MultiChoice is upgrading the M-Net Movies Zone (DStv 139) channel to high definition (HD) from 1 December. M-Net Movies Zone is available to DStv Premium, DStv Compact Plus, DStv Compact, DStv Family and DStv Access subscribers. M-Net says it's tweaking the channel proposition of M-Net Movies Zone, that in the future will be running movie festivals, and mini-festivals built around specific themes, franchises and events. An example is a Jaws min-festival that will start on 3 December with Jaws at 18:20, followed by the sequel Jaws 2 on Saturday 9 December at 19:00 and Jaws 3 on Saturday 16 December at 18:20. Jaws: The Revenge will be broadcast on M-Net Movies Zone on Saturday 23 December at 18:25. A Rocky film festival will be broadcast in February 2018. For the holiday period M-Net Movies Zone is doing a "M-Net Movies Zone Kids Club with 5 hours of kids films daily between 10:00 and 15:00 on weekdays and between 09:00 and 14:00 on weekends. Films include Paddington, Casper, Hop, Dr. Seuss' The Cat In The Hat and others. "We trust that the rejuvenation of our M-Net Movies Zone schedule will turn the channel into a default destination, especially for our DStv Access customers, but will also provide great entertainment to all movie lovers," says Jan du Plessis, director for M-Net channels.

BBC Worldwide To Stop Commissioning Original Content For BBC Earth And BBC Brit

BBC Worldwide, the commercial arm of the BBC, is reportedly ending the commissioning of original content for its set of international BBC channels like BBC Earth and BBC Brit seen on MultiChoice's DStv satellite pay-TV platform in South Africa and Africa.

Deadline on Tuesday first reported about BBC Worldwide's overhauled channel strategy for its BBC channels that includes a cutback on the commissioning on original content for channels like BBC Earth (DStv 184) and BBC Brit (DStv 120).

While in 2017 BBC Brit and BBC Earth for instance broadcast over 50 hours of originally commissioned content, that is now going to be completely eliminated.

BBC Worldwide's channels will now be filled with existing programming that's already being distributed by BBC Worldwide, like Planet Earth II for instance.

A BBC Worldwide spokesperson said in a statement that "our global network of
branded services has grown and evolved since 2014 - with their commissioning strategies also adapting to best fit their content needs."
"As a result, much of the resource put into delivering global factual entertainment has been redirected towards meeting a growing demand for formats and factual entertainment that can be localized".

BBC Earth is available in Africa, Asia, Latin America, Eastern Europe, Canada and India.

BBC Brit is available in Africa, Eastern Europe and the Nordic territories.
