New Channel Alert (Rumour): Two Years After Its Rollout In The Rest Of Africa, NHK World Japan Will Finally Be Made Available To DStv Customers In South Africa

In 2020, NHK World-Japan was introduced to DStv customers outside South Africa on channel 431 showcasing a variety of arts and culture, current affairs, dramas, documentaries, sport and much more.

The channel offered a new world of Japanese content and was able to discover a unique and diverse blend of programming featuring hourly live international news from news bureaus around the globe, along with lifestyle, culture, food, travel, sports, technology, science, and history programs, with an Asian perspective.

At launch in 2020, Masaru Shiromoto, President and CEO of Japan International Broadcasting responsible for the worldwide distribution of NHK WORLD-JAPAN, says “Our new partnership with DStv will help broaden our reach and ensure that more people are exposed to the thrilling yet educational programs on our channel.”

Some great titles such as NHK NEWSLINE along with technology, lifestyle and entertainment programs such as Dining with the Chef, Journeys in Japan, J-Arena and Medical Frontiers. In addition, the channel offers an assortment of documentaries and specials including Asia Insight and NHK Documentary.

The channel was meant to be added onto the DStv platform in South Africa but things didn't go according to plan so it went through development hell alongside several channels awaiting launch on the platform including SABC Education and Via+.

From what the initial details stated, it would have been available to all DStv customers on channel 431 excluding regional packages like Easyview.
