DreamWorks, Telemundo, CNBC, MSNBC, Universal TV And Studio Universal May Have To Undergo A Name Change Under Comcast's Spun Off Company

As some readers are aware, NBCUniversal similar to Disney is looking to reducing its linear portfolio in the coming years with NBC, Telemundo and Bravo being what's left of the company alongside Peacock. As E!, CNBC, MSNBC and Universal TV are all being spun off under a separate company which will be financed by few shareholders at Comcast.

MultiChoice currently supplies channels like Universal TV, E!, Telemundo, Studio Universal, DreamWorks, CNBC and MSNBC from NBCUniversal. With this separation, these channels will look unrecognizable in the coming years not only by what it chooses to air but also by name.

Comcast plans to retain the studios used to produce the content viewed by these channels and if we're reading between the lines E! won't own The Real Housewives as much as DreamWorks won't own Shrek. Yes, it's likely that when this spinoff occurs they'll try to retain as much of their former selfs but overtime it will change.

Considering these aren't members of Comcast, what is likely to transpire now is that the latter will have to undergo a name change or close altogether. This is what happened when Disney acquired FOX it had to remove the FOX trademark from various properties while it's linear channels either closed or rebranded to FX/Star.

It will be interesting to see what identity these channels take up once this whole ordeal unfolds by 2025 as Comcast holds the NBC, Telemundo and Universal trademarks. What I imagine them doing particularly with Telemundo is dissolving the brand as SpinCo doesn't own the content and is likely to prioritize on their "more broader channels".

DreamWorks, another TV channel like Telemundo is the broader channel and SpinCo could try to capitalise on its success. NBCUniversal has always been a local when it comes to its linear portfolio, internationally this was also spearheaded by what is known as SpinCo but this time it has do it without these studios in its pocket.

Cartoon Network Celebrates The Winners Of The CN Climate Champions Schools Initiative

Cartoon Network has announced the winners of its CN Climate Champions Schools Initiative, a campaign that empowered children aged 6 to 12 across South Africa to combat climate change. The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from 250 schools spanning all nine provinces.

The campaign was inspired by a recent Cartoon Network survey revealing that:

• 94% of South African children are concerned about climate change
• 95% want to take action to address it
• 90% are eager to learn more about the issue

“At Cartoon Network, we are passionate about the power of small, everyday actions to create significant global impact,” said Monika Oomen, VP of Brand, Communications, and Digital Content Strategy for Kids EMEA at Warner Bros. Discovery. “The CN Climate Champions Schools Initiative has been instrumental in inspiring teachers and students to delve into, debate, and actively address climate change.”

The initiative provided schools with weekly themes on crucial environmental issues such as recycling, energy conservation, plant life, plastic pollution, and e-waste. Engaging content, including facts, videos, quizzes, and challenges, helped teachers integrate climate change topics into their classrooms.

Students actively participated in activities like rainwater harvesting, clothing recycling, and climate-focused presentations. Schools also submitted photos and videos of these activities for a chance to win weekly eco-friendly prizes.

A highlight of the initiative was the "creative upcycling" competition, challenging schools to create models or sculptures using recycled materials. The top ten schools received prizes, with the top three demonstrating exceptional innovation:

• Atholl Heights Primary School in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, took home first place with their charismatic recycling mascot, Penelope the Penguin. This student-built creation, crafted from recycled materials, embodies the school's dedication to recycling and climate change education. Penelope serves as a powerful visual reminder of the importance of environmental stewardship and the impact of climate change on vulnerable species like penguins. The project showcased the students' creativity, dedication, and commitment to making a positive impact on their school community.

• Rosehill Primary School in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, clinched second place with their multifaceted approach to sustainability. Already known for their environmental stewardship, the school created a vibrant garden oasis built entirely from recycled materials. Students crafted functional items like a water-saving irrigation system from recycled bottles and earbuds, demonstrating resourcefulness and ingenuity. The project extended beyond the garden, inspiring students to create practical items like pencil holders from recycled materials and fostering a school-wide culture of reducing, reusing, and recycling.

• Alipore Primary School in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal, earned third place by tackling both food insecurity and sustainability with their innovative "Alipore Primary Big Build" project. Inspired by the Climate Champions Challenge, students constructed a vertical vegetable garden using recycled 5-litre bottles. This initiative not only provided a sustainable source of fresh produce for the school and community but also instilled a sense of environmental responsibility and community spirit among the students.

"We are incredibly proud of the enthusiasm and creativity displayed by students across South Africa," said Oomen. "The CN Climate Champions Schools Initiative proves the power of education and engagement in fostering environmental stewardship from a young age. Congratulations to all the winners and participants—your dedication to sustainability inspires us all."

The competition showcased the remarkable creativity and passion of young minds dedicated to eco-friendly innovations. Cartoon Network congratulates all participants for their commitment to protecting the planet for future generations.

The Origin Story Of DreamWorks' Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimarron

An inspiring story of survival, strength, friendship, and freedom, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron is an all-time favorite movie for horse lovers of all ages. It follows a wild mustang as he fights for his freedom and that of his herd. The artistry, story line, and killer soundtrack work together to make a horse movie worth watching over and over.

It’s been 18 years since the original animated movie made its debut. You might have every line memorized, but did you know there is a real-life Spirit that inspired the fictional character?

Unlike other animated movies, Spirit is based on reality as much as possible. The horses don’t talk, and generalized events including the expansion of the railroad are based on fact, not fiction. Producers thought it was important to deliver a film that inspired viewers while melding the worlds of animation and real life. Achieving that goal would take more than clever animation. They needed artistry that could tell a story without dialogue and evoke emotions with each movement.

To do that, artists needed a model. They needed a real-life horse that would serve as inspiration and example. After a search, they found a Kiger mustang with beautiful conformation, coloring, and strength. His name was Donner, but these days, that real-life mustang goes by a different name: Spirit.

DreamWorks selected the now-named Spirit when he was a colt. Born to a stallion and mare that had been captured by the BLM in Oregon, Spirit was (and still is) a beautiful example of the Kiger mustang breed. His wide-set eyes and thick, wavy, multi-colored tail and mane became the inspiration for the animated horse that is still stealing hearts all these years later.

Before the 2002 movie made it to the big screen, animators spent countless hours observing Spirit. They watched how his muscles moved when he ran and how his face changed with his mood. With Spirit’s help, animators created an accurate equine character that looks and moves just like their live model.

When the movie was finished, DreamWorks chose Return to Freedom’s American Wild Horse Sanctuary to be Spirit’s permanent home. It’s been almost two decades since Spirit posed for animators, but the beautiful mustang we all love still serves as an advocate for Kiger mustangs and all of America’s wild horses. In fact, he recently celebrated his 25th birthday!

Like his animated character, the real-life Spirit is part of the fight to help wild horses maintain their natural habitats and freedom. While he lives at the sanctuary and loves interacting with people, Spirit is a prominent ambassador for wild horses. He engages youth around the world to learn more about America’s mustangs and every horse’s need for freedom and protection.

He lives on Return to Freedom’s headquarter facility in Santa Barbara County on 300 acres of pristine California pasture. From a young age he learned to be comfortable around people, but those who know him best say he has spunk and spirit similar to that of his fictional character. He’s grown to be an important part of the wild horse sanctuary, and he’s helping educate the public about his breed and ways humans can protect all of America’s wild horses.

With Spirit’s claim to fame, he attracts crowds of fans to his sanctuary home. During these visits, the real-life Spirit helps the sanctuary spread an important message about what’s currently happening to the country’s wild horses and what the public can do to help.

Spirit’s work in inspiring others has been recognized not only by the countless people he has met, but also by the EQUUS Foundation and the United States Equestrian Foundation. The organizations inducted Spirit into the Horse Stars Hall of Fame in 2018, and he continues to influence the sanctuary’s mission even decades after Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron was released.

Now 25 years old, the real-life Spirit is busy enjoying life at the sanctuary. He spends his days interacting with a few of his equine friends and enjoying attention and care from his favorite humans. He was born in captivity, but the spirit of independence and the wild west lives in his veins. And thanks to Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, his image will continue to show others that freedom is always worth fighting for.

Disney And Canal+ Remain Silent About French Overseas Territories Following The Upcoming Closure Of Disney Channels

Not long ago, it was reported that Disney would be axing their last remaining linear offering in France with Disney Channel And Disney Junior set to go dark on the platform by 31 December 2024. After the French broadcaster became the exclusive home to Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar will now be integrated with Disney+.

Aside from France, Disney also managed the feeds for consumers in Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Andorra, Haiti and Francophone Africa. With their fate being left up in the air, these territories are most likely to lose their channels seeing as they're all conjoined.

Another scenario which could be similar to what was seen in Middle East and North Africa is that these remaining French territories will likely be merged with Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA). I think the question would have to be whether any French audio track will be provided if that was the case.

Kind of interesting is that MultiChoice who also offer Disney+ and the remaining linear offering in a separate agreement in Anglophone Africa is also in the process of being acquired by the French broadcaster. Basically, Canal+ would still have control over what the media consumes but in another territory.

Not Shocking!!! The Disney Channels To Go Dark In France By The End Of December With Further Content Being Allocated On Disney+

Canal+, which launched Disney+ in the French market, is to lose the streaming service from 1 January 2025.

Disney announced Monday that its content would no longer be available to Canal’s subscribers – the day that the Vivendi-owned company was celebrating its 40th anniversary.

It is a major blow for the pay-TV operator that has successfully pivoted to a super-aggregator after an earlier loss of rights to French top-flight football.

In addition to Disney+, remaining linear channels such as Disney Channel will also be pulled, as will content from the Marvel, Star Wars and Pixar franchises, at least in the short-term.

The decision by Disney no longer let its latest films be broadcast by the pay-TV service six months after their cinema release, as is in the norm in France means it will now take 17 months before viewers are able to stream the latest titles through Disney+.

A spokesperson for Disney told Broadband TV News: “From 1 January, Canal’s customers will no longer be able to watch our upcoming new movie releases, Disney+ or our channels through Canal’s offering. Our blockbuster movies, award-winning TV series, and exclusive Originals remain widely available on Disney+ directly and through partners for everyone to enjoy their favorite stories from our brands.”

Speaking on France Info Gérald-Brice Viret, CEO of Canal+ France, was putting on a brave face. “They had the delicacy to do it on our anniversary. And on the other hand, I can tell you that it is a fairly marginal consumption by our subscribers: they prefer, for example, MAX, Paramount, Netflix, Apple TV or Ciné+,” he said.

In 2019, Canal signed an exclusive distribution agreement for Disney’s streaming platform, a few months before its launch in France.

Michael Jackson's Relationship With Sonic The Hedgehog Explained

Yuji Naka has put an end to more than 25 years of mystery. The creator of Sonic has been scandalized on his social media before the latest compilation game of the character, the remarkable Sonic Origins, because it changes the soundtrack of Sonic the Hedgehog 3. And why has this detail bothered him so much? Because, as Naka himself admits, the original soundtrack was composed by Michael Jackson!

Michael Jackson in video games

Since the game was released back in 1994, rumors about the link between Michael Jackson and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 have been continuous. The singer was always an avowed fan of video games, appearing for the first time in three different versions of Michael Jackson's Moonwalker released for DOS, arcades and Master System. In these three games, based on the movie of the same name, Moonwalker, the King of Pop signed on as designer and composer. The title was a nice beat'em up with horizontal scroll in which we tried to rescue, through music and dance, several kids kidnapped by the clutches of the fearsome Mr. Big.

But they were not Michael's only cameo in the industry. If in Moonwalker we moved to the rhythm of Beat It and Smooth Criminal, in other games like Space Channel 5 and Ready 2 Rumble Boxing: Round 2 we also did the same thanks to Jackson's different cameos. But not content with his crossovers in his own works and collaborations, the artist also wanted to collaborate with the most popular character of the time: Sonic.

The romance between Sonic and Michael Jackson

An absolute fan of the blue hedgehog, there are many photos of Michael Jackson visiting the Sega offices in Japan. Images in which he appears accompanied by illustrious figures such as Mark Cerny, or playing the great classics of the time, such as Power Drift and Galaxy Force 2.

Considering their interest and that Sonic the Hedgehog 3 featured vintage composers like Bobby Brooks, Brad Buxer, Cirocco Jones, Darryl Ross, Doug Grigsby or Geoff Grace, how on earth did Sega want us to think that Michael Jackson wasn't also approached about the opportunity? The company denied it over and over again, he wasn't even in the credits, but more than a few users found reasonable resemblances between songs like Jam and game tunes like Carnival Night, or Stranger in Moscow and the game's credits.

Michael Jackson didn't like the result of Sonic the Hedgehog 3

Brad Buxer himself confirmed in a controversial interview that yes, indeed, if we noticed the imprint of the King of Pop it was because he had participated in it. "We did compose the music. Michael called me at the time for give him a helping hand on this project, and that's what I did. I've never played and I do not know what the developers have kept the tracks on which Michael and I have worked, but we did compose the music."

Many fans were reluctant to believe him because, then, what was the reason for excluding him from the credits? Why were the game producers denying his collaboration? According to the wonderful article Michael Jackson: The Video Game Conspiracy, it seems that the singer ended up dissatisfied with his work and removed his name from the credits of the game. Jackson didn't like the fact that they had to compress the music to make room for the graphics, as the mix didn't sound the way he wanted it to and he had to cut several tracks where the singer even beatboxed. The report claims that Sega got mad at him for that and started stating from then on that they had scrapped the whole thing.

Yuji Naka's statements close the story. They confirm what the report and Buxter's words told. Both hints seemed solid, but Sega stuck to its guns when they came out and never officially acknowledged the collaboration. The company claimed that both were not proof of anything, but how could they discredit the head of Sonic Team himself? So much for the unknown: the most famous musician in history and the most famous video game mascot of the 90s were best friends.

News Shorts: A Rebroadcast Of eKasi: Our Stories Replaces Current Affairs On e.tv As The Latter Moves Back To Late Nights, Play Room Lands In Gotham City With The Batwheels And TLNovelas Africa Is Now Slated To Air Cancelled Soap Shadows Of The Past

e.tv hits a new low with a rebroadcast of eKasi: Our Stories

In a not so surprising move by the broadcaster, The Last Word With Shahan Ramkissoon, Devi and Checkpoint will now air 2 hours later at 22:30 as primetime is set to be bombarded with repeats of eKasi: Our Stories. We can only assume similar to Isiphetho: Destiny even the 20:30 slot is a danger zone.

By this time, Uzalo is broadcast on SABC 1 and seeing as e.tv and SABC 1 are targeting the same viewers you can only assume that a majority have a preference to long form soaps. Unlike Isiphetho: Destiny, these shows were commissioned by eNCA so there's a strong chance it will remain on the air.

But with the number of times they've changed their schedule I wouldn't be shocked if e.tv scrapped current affairs from weekdays as they've got these batch of shows like uMbali and Splintered Pieces on eVOD. None of which have yet to be added on eMedia's linear platforms and e.tv has already seen constraints in their schedule.

Batwheels expands to DStv Access

Produced by Warner Bros Animation, the series follows a group of sentient super-powered crime-fighting vehicles defending Gotham City alongside a host of DC superheroes. Brought to life by the Batcomputer to help defend Gotham City, the heroic Batwheels are thrust into hilarious hijinks and jaw-dropping action while learning important life lessons.

Led by Bam the Batmobile, the Batwheels must navigate the challenges of being a newly formed super team as well as the growing pains that come with just being a kid. The relatable and aspirational series follows the team’s journey as they thrill and entertain with their heroic adventures, as well as demonstrate to preschool kids the value of self-confidence, friendship and teamwork.

After being made available on Cartoonito by March 2023, Play Room had acquired rights to superhero themed preschool series following its rollout on Netflix in September. The series is slated to air from 1st November at 18:15 and it's rollout on the channel coincides with Cartoon Network as they will be celebrating Teen Titans GO! 400th episode milestone with a bunch of DC themed content.

Shadows Of The Past now slated to rollout on TLNovelas

After failing to rollout on the channel earlier in the year, TLNovelas is now slated to include the former FOX soap Shadow Of The Past by December replacing the current rebroadcast of Timeless Love. Similar to Telemundo, it appears primetime is now being revived as the latter gripped to 1 timeslot.

Based on 2001 telenovela El Manantial, it follows Two very different families live in the village of Santa Lucía who are involved in a whirlwind of passion, pain, and revenge. From those opposite sides, Aldonza and Cristóbal meet and a bond that will face hurdles is formed.

Michelle Renaud and Pablo Lyle stars as the protagonists, while Alexis Ayala and Alejandra Barros stars as the antagonists. There is a special participation of Susana González and René Strickler, with Alfredo Adame, Cynthia Klitbo and Manuel "Flaco" Ibáñez.

Cartoon Network Celebrates Teen Titans GO! 400th Episode Milestone In November

The special stop-motion animated episode is set to premiere across all Cartoon Network global markets on 30th November.

Teen Titans Go!, the longest running animated series in DC history, is celebrating its 400th episode with a special global roll out across Cartoon Network on Saturday 30th November.

Festivities for the Warner Bros. Animation series officially kicked off at New York Comic Con with a special panel featuring executive producer and showrunner, Pete Michail, and the entire voice cast – Tara Strong (Raven), Greg Cipes (Beast Boy), Khary Payton (Cyborg), Hynden Walch (Starfire) and Scott Menville (Robin). Fans in attendance were treated to a special early screening of the 400th episode which comically features the Titans fighting for their television lives after Superman, in an effort to get their show cancelled, banishes them to the world of stop-motion animation.

Beginning in November, fans can join in on the 400th episode celebration with Cartoon Network hosting Teen Titans Go! dedicated programming on its channels across the US and EMEA. Cartoon Network on-air schedules will feature a takeover for the entire month of November airing ‘Every Episode Ever’ of Teen Titans Go!. The network takeover will also feature all-new custom promos, bumps and idents on-air, all culminating in the 400th episode special, premiering on 30th November.

Cartoon Network’s bespoke Roblox experience – Cartoon Network Game On! – has also launched two new mini-games in celebration of the 400th episode special, titiled Teen Titan Go! Treasure Hunt and Teen Titans Go! Capture the Flag. In Teen Titans Go! Treasure Hunt, users race against the clock to help the Teen Titans find some of their most treasured items that the heroes have lost, unlocking exclusive rewards in the process. Teen Titans Go! Capture the Flag brings the highly popular Roblox game mechanic into the world of Teen Titans Go!. The game will feature the five Teen Titans and also characters from The H.I.V.E Five. Both in-game activations are now live.

The celebration will continue into the new year when Beast Boy: Lone Wolf, an all-new short-form animated series, will premiere across Cartoon Network’s on-air channel and digitally via its YouTube channel in the UK this month, and in EMEA in 2025. Produced by Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, Beast Boy: Lone Wolf is a series of action-comedy shorts following Beast Boy as he embarks on his first solo adventure to prove he can be a superhero without the Teen Titans. With every episode dedicated to a new villain for Beast Boy to fight, the series is sure to delight fans.

Disney Channel EMEA (Most Likely Southern Africa) Schedule For November 2024 Has Been Spotted By Several DStv Consumers

A while ago, it was reported that MultiChoice Africa might be looking to launch Disney Channel Africa as several consumers had spotted a duplicate feed of channel 303 in the iPlate section. Except this feed similar to TLC and Nickelodeon has a varied offering with some exceptions being Primos and Hamster And Gretel.

Based on what I've seen from this lineup, this is likely the channel's upcoming schedule for the month of November as neighbouring countries in Europe had wondered why Disney Channel hadn't shared their schedule months in advance. This may have something to do with the possible rollout of Disney Channel SA and Disney Channel Africa.

Disney Channel SA is what appears to be spotted in the iPlate section I noticed this as Primos airs by 4PM CAT and Hamster And Gretel airs 2 hours prior. If this was Disney Channel Africa, in the West parts Primos would be listed by 3PM with the Eastern part 5PM so we can only assume the current feed is being phased out from South Africa.

Gravity Falls and Amphibia are both slated to rollout on the channel in the month of November and these are shows that are deemed as inappropriate in some African regions for their gay themes. As reported last year, Telemundo went through a similar hassle in some African markets causing Nurses to get yanked from the channel while in mid production.

We're presuming with Disney Channel SA possibly being a thing maybe it could lead to shows like Andi Mack getting reinstated and also mean that consumers might see the final season of The Owl House - of course there's no guarantees of anything yet.

Below is a schedule for the month of November with times in CAT of course there's no weekend schedule presuming those are still in the developing stages:

Rumour: "Disney Channel Africa" Might Be Rolling Out On DStv Very Soon, Here's Why

As readers have been made aware, TLC Africa was launched on channel 125 for consumers in Southern Africa (not South Africa) after being made available in West and Eastern parts of Africa. This left the main TLC brand on channel 135 to offer a broader range of content such as the transgender reality show I Am Jazz.

Now it appears as if Disney Channel might be also be going under the knife as a duplicate channel had been spotted on the iPlate section. This is where MultiChoice tests out potential DStv channels or upgrades an existing service and of course this version of the channel has slight variations.
Take for instance, Miraculous: Tales Of Ladybug And Catnoir and Big City Greens those are currently in their first seasons while the current feed viewed by consumers are on much later seasons. Monsters At Work and Jessie are currently on the network while this feed has supplemented those with Amphibia and Lab Rats: Elite Force.

If I one had to guess, MultiChoice is probably to separate the operations for these brands as seen with Nickelodeon, M-Net and not long ago. Best case scenario is that this channel will probably be referred to as Disney Channel Africa and occupy channel 313 while the main feed for SA consumers resides on channel 303.

I think the only thing here that has yet to answered is which feed MultiChoice has in development the one I presume will occupy channel 313 or perhaps takeover channel 303. As mentioned, it offers a program like Gravity Falls something that was banned in some parts of Africa of course the channel doesn't have a full schedule.

From the looks of it, this feed will probably takeover whatever is left of channel 303 from 1st November as no EPG had been provided for the channel unlike Disney Junior. Another scenario here is that they're probably going to move channel 303 to 313 for neighbouring countries while introducing this feed on channel 303 in South Africa.

Marvel's Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur Cancelled After Two Seasons On Disney Channel And Disney+

Marvel's Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is based on Marvel Comics and follows the adventures of Lunella Lafayette (voiced by Diamond White) and Devil Dinosaur (voiced by Fred Tatasciore), a 13-year-old genius and her red T-Rex pal, respectively. In addition to a rather stacked supporting cast with the likes of Alfre Woodard and Gary Anthony Williams, executive producer Laurence Fishburne also voices The Beyonder.

Development began after Marvel Studios president Louis D'Esposito showed Fishburne the comic book Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur. His interest piqued, Fishburne sought to make an animated series based on the duo. Production proceeded for two years before Steve Loter was hired as an executive producer.

The series received highly positive reviews for its writing, animation, soundtrack, representation and characters. The series also won five Children's and Family Emmy Awards.

The first season of Marvel's Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur was broadcast on Disney Channel from February 10, 2023 to May 6, 2023 consisting of 16 episodes. The second season which is currently on air followed a year later on February 2, 2024 with 24 episodes said to be in development.

According to recent reports, Disney Channel will be ending the show with its current season as a season 3 will not be greenlit. Of course, writers had expressed the idea of a potential third season with a script that was said to be developed all of which will likely not fruition as the remaining episodes will likely be available within the first half of 2025.

Marvel's Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur is not the only animated show by the network to have been cancelled but also Hailey's On It and The Ghost And Molly McGee. It is alleged that Disney has been using a different ratings system (i.e. Disney+) to monitor the performance of these shows and another is them prioritising IPs.
