New Dragonball Super Anime Has Been Announced

An extensively remastered version of the popular anime series “Dragon Ball Super” will premiere in fall 2026 under the new title “Dragon Ball Super: Beerus,” the franchise announced at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event in Japan.

The enhanced edition features comprehensive visual upgrades including new animation cuts, revised sequences, complete re-rendering of all footage, freshly recorded voice acting, and an overhauled musical score and sound design. The project, which commenced several years ago, aims to deliver a more faithful adaptation of creator Akira Toriyama’s original work through cutting-edge visual techniques.

The announcement was made during a live stage presentation at Makuhari Messe, with voice actors Masako Nozawa (Son Goku) and Koichi Yamadera (God of Destruction Beerus) appearing alongside executive producer Akio Iyoku.

A launch trailer and key visual were unveiled at the event, showcasing the enhanced production values. The narrative follows the God of Destruction Beerus awakening from a prolonged sleep and targeting Earth after hearing about a Saiyan who defeated Frieza, setting up a confrontation with Goku and his allies.

The enhanced series represents a complete reconstruction of the original “Dragon Ball Super” television anime, which featured Toriyama’s original work, story concepts and character designs. The production promises heightened visual immersion, particularly in battle sequences.

The same event also revealed “Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol,” a separate new anime series that continues the storyline following the “Universe Survival Arc” from the 2015-2018 broadcast run.

Could Discovery Global Look To Overhaul Cartoon Network?

Continuing onto last year, Warner Bros. Discovery is exploring a potential sale where Netflix bags IPs such as Harry Potter and Looney Tunes. Then there's Paramount that wants the whole enchilada including CNN, Cartoon Network and TLC.

For the part that Netflix excluded from the deal, the plan is to get that spun off into a separate entity, Discovery Global. It will be loaded in debt which amounts to $20 billion as Netflix takes up $10-$15 billion from its buyout of Warner Bros.

Discovery Global is expected to generate a lot of cash flow but with immense cord cutting as seen with that of Canal+'s DStv. The revenue will continue to plummet and channels like Cartoon Network and Cartoonito (or. Boomerang) aren't immune.

Netflix had stated that if it's buyout of Warner Bros. succeeded that the company would continue to operate independently. Licensing agreements with Canal+, Sky and even Discovery Global would be retained.

These means shows like Tiny Toons Looniversity and Teen Titans GO! would continue to be seen on Cartoon Network. But then there's lingering fears from various consumers about the viability of the brand under Discovery Global.

Bloomberg did it's piece on Cartoon Network last year where it was reported that the network makes between 15% to 20% of what it had in 2014. And also that Warner Bros. Discovery only relies on the brand for its older catalogue.

The fear for some here again is that Discovery Global will slash the tires of Cartoon Network or possible keep only the international variant. Think of Universal Kids, it's predecessors are Sky Kids in the UK and DreamWorks Channel everywhere else.

Discovery Global could lean more toward existing partnerships with Hasbro for Discovery Family and WeTV for MeTV Toons.

New Scooby-Doo! Gokko Show To Launch In 2027

During a launch event for the new "Scooby-Doo x Miss Frandy" makeup line in Brazil, held in November 2025, a retrospective of the franchise's history was presented. In that context, the development of a new animated "Scooby-Doo" project titled Scooby-Doo! Gokko was announced, with a planned premiere in 2027.

The project would follow an aesthetic and conceptual line similar to Tom & Jerry Gokko, a series of animated shorts in a kawaii/chibi style, clearly inspired by Japanese productions like Hello Kitty. This series originally premiered in Japan in 2022 and made its international debut in mid-2025, currently available on both YouTube and HBO Max.

On the other hand, there is a possibility that Scooby-Doo! Gokko could be the final version of the "Go-Go Mystery Machine" project, which may have evolved—including a title change—to align with the visual and conceptual identity of Tom & Jerry Gokko.

So far, no official updates have been announced about that production, which was revealed in June 2024 and conceived with strong influences from Asian culture, incorporating new characters and a setting in Japan.

However, this hypothesis seems, for now, less likely.

"Go-Go Mystery Machine" was announced in 2024.

The title refers to the Japanese word gokko (ごっこ), used to describe children's role-playing games, which—just like with Tom & Jerry Gokko—suggests a softer, more stylized reinterpretation aimed at a younger audience of the classic mystery-solving gang.

In this sense, it cannot be ruled out that Warner Bros. is considering establishing "Gokko" as a sub-brand to develop chibi versions of its most iconic animated properties, a strategy that could eventually extend to franchises like Looney Tunes or even the DC Universe.

We have already seen child-oriented versions of Mystery Inc. in A Pup Named Scooby-Doo (1988).

In addition to Tom and Jerry, Warner Bros. maintains a close and long-standing relationship with anime. Beyond the legendary Toonami block on Cartoon Network and Adult Swim—where series like Dragon Ball, Naruto, Sailor Moon, Gundam Wing, Inuyasha, Yu Yu Hakusho, and One Piece aired—the company has attempted on various occasions to translate some of its most iconic characters into the language of Japanese animation. For example, both The Amazing World of Gumball and the 2020 reboot of Animaniacs include sequences animated with a clear anime aesthetic.

In the case of Adult Swim, the network produced completely original anime series such as Fena: Pirate Princess, Ninja Kamui, Uzumaki, the most recent seasons of FLCL, and Blade Runner: Black Lotus, inspired by the world-renowned film franchise. Similarly, Rick and Morty featured several shorts animated by Japanese studios like Studio Deen, Sola Entertainment, and Telecom Animation Film, in addition to a full spin-off titled Rick and Morty: The Anime. This is joined by productions developed entirely in Japan, such as Batman Ninja and Suicide Squad Isekai, both created by Warner Bros. in collaboration with local studios.

Within Cartoon Network's programming, We Bare Bears had a spin-off, We Baby Bears, which—without being full anime—explicitly adopted a Japanese, chibi, and kawaii style designed to connect with Eastern audiences. Likewise, series like Teen Titans, ThunderCats, and Ben 10 show a marked anime influence in both their visual design and staging. Even Craig of the Creek featured an anime-style opening sequence produced especially for its YouTube release.

Finally, Warner Bros. co-produced with Toei Animation an anime-format series of The Powerpuff Girls, titled Powerpuff Girls Z. Additionally, at the end of 2024, The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim premiered, a prequel film to the successful live-action trilogy, produced by Sola Digital Arts. This adds to the development of a "Japanese" version of Wacky Races, though, by all indications, that last project was ultimately shelved.

For now, no further details about Scooby-Doo! Gokko were provided during the presentation, though new updates on this project are expected in the coming months.

January 2026 On Nick Jr. Across Europe And Africa | Returning Shows Including Dora And Tim Rex In Space

Nick Jr. is not skimping on premieres in January, and this channel is also entering a new phase for the domestic audience.

As you already know, both Nickelodeon and Nicktoons are undergoing major changes starting in January, as we are switching from the ad-supported version to becoming an ad-free channel. You know what that means: less time passes between individual programs, often only a promo or short filler is aired, which allows even more shows to be broadcast thanks to the freed-up airtime.

But let's get to the novelties. At the beginning of the month, Dora's final season continues, and the day after the series finale, a channel premiere takes its place. It's been more than a year since new episodes last aired, so it was high time for the final season of Sharkdog. The third season will air on weekday mornings, with afternoon repeats. Thanks to the global feed covering many countries across multiple continents, repeat slots are necessary so that every country can watch their favorite shows at a convenient local time. That's why all premiere times are listed in this article, although this may not necessarily continue in the future.

Finally, the January novelties conclude with the premieres of the second season of Tim Rex In Space. For this series, premieres will also be in the morning, repeated twice during the day and again early the next morning.

It should also be mentioned that with the new feed, the schedule changes in that Blaze and the Monster Machines returns to the regular lineup, while The Adventures of Paddington is removed.

How Azam TV And Canal+ Afrique In Rwanda Are Impacted By DStv's Closure Of Cartoon Network And Cartoonito?

With a few days left in 2025, Warner Bros. Discovery and MultiChoice are set to close 12 channels on DStv and GOtv platforms across Africa by 31 December. Talks between the two have stalled due to pricing and might continue into 2026.

This means DStv consumers will be losing out on shows like Teen Titans GO!, Bugs Bunny Builders and Mr. Bean. Whatever alternatives MultiChoice's new owners have in store is less likely to include these shows from Cartoon Network and Cartoonito.

Cartoon Network would be exiting DStv platform after 30 years serving as one of 15 channels alongside CNN and Travel Channel when DStv launched in the market.

As advised, the exit of Cartoon Network means the only other way consumers can view the brand would be through Azam TV which is located in East Africa and Canal+ Afrique in Rwanda.

The problem part is that majority of Cartoon Network and Cartoonito's consumers were on DStv meaning most of their revenue resided with MultiChoice. If that space is closed, Warner Bros. Discovery will most definitely scale back on its operations.

Cartoon Network had been dubbing Teen Titans GO! and The Wonderfully Weird Of Gumball to Zulu that could as well get the boot. They had produced local series like Woola for Cartoonito which too is at risk of cancellation.

MultiChoice's cancellation of these brands could impact Canal+ Rwanda's existing agreement seeing as they're both divisions of Canal+. Warner Bros. Discovery might not deem Africa as viable for these networks with only Azam TV.

If Warner Bros. Discovery were to charge more to Azam TV, they may follow the same strategy as MultiChoice and severe its ties.

This is why the new management at MultiChoice doesn't feel threatened by their possible exit as the only other means for Regular Show would be streaming. Compared to South Africa, there's a lot of constraints to that in other parts of Africa.

Has Cartoonito Become Irrelevant To DStv?

Cartoonito is a preschool channel operated by Warner Bros. Discovery offering fun, engaging and comedic content. It is home to shows like Tom And Jerry and Batwheels alongside third party shows from Grizzy And The Lemmings and Cocomelon.

It was to meant to serve as some successor to Boomerang and since it's inception there's been a lot of mixed feelings about the brand.

Boomerang was basically the Comedy Central of children's television with various content from Looney Tunes, Tom And Jerry and Scooby-Doo. All this was kind of trimmed down with Cartoonito in favour of more age appropriate shows.

The thing is preschool was never really the problem or at least not entirely. For DStv consumers there was plenty of this on JimJam, Cbeebies and Nick Jr. there was no need for another preschool channel.

Boomerang was preschool inclusive and the existing offering on the channel gave this content some elevation. But too much of it led to Cartoonito's rapid decline in popularity as older audiences felt alienated by the increased age appropriate shows.

In recent months, Warner Bros. Discovery had moved several shows from the brand to Cartoon Network including Looney Tunes Cartoons and Scooby-Doo And Guess Who?. By doing that, consumers would just further distance themselves from the brand.

Paramount+ Greenlights Mo Willems’ ‘The Elephant & Piggie Show’ and ‘The Pigeon Show!’

Paramount+ is getting into the Mo Willems’ animated animal business in a big way. The streamer announced today that it has greenlit two animated series, The Elephant & Piggie Show! and The Pigeon Show! Starring the Pigeon, based on the best-selling children’s author and illustrator’s books. This is the first time Paramount+ is collaborating with the author’s Hidden Pigeon production company.

“Mo Willems has delighted kids and ‘former kids’ around the world with these beloved characters,” said Jane Wiseman, Head of Originals for Paramount+. “Whether it’s Elephant and Piggie navigating the hard work of ‘best-friending’ or The Pigeon confusing wants and needs (a hot dog! a cookie! to drive the bus!), these characters remind us that the best stories are the ones that make us laugh and feel something real. We’re thrilled to bring them to life on Paramount+.”

“We are so excited to be partnering with Paramount+ to further expand the world of Mo Willems through these two new series,” said Karen K. Miller, CEO of Hidden Pigeon Company. “We can’t wait to present more of the characters and stories that kids everywhere already know and love in ways that will surprise and delight them at every turn.”

The Elephant & Piggie Show! is described as a warm, comedic pre-K series about the hilarious and sometimes challenging work of “best-friending.” The series takes place in the small, walkable neighborhood of Willemsburg, which is full of new locations audiences will love. Elephant Gerald is careful; his best friend Piggie is not. Gerald worries so that Piggie does not have to and together, along with young audiences, they will celebrate the messy and joyful art of friendship.

The Pigeon Show! Starring the Pigeon animates the day-to-day struggles of a pigeon who just wants to be listened to. He will be your best friend if you have a bus and you let him drive it. The series features familiar characters from Willems’ books, such as the adorable Duckling who always seems to get what she wants, plus new characters, like The Pigeon’s 150-million-year-old pterodactyl grandmother, Nana-Dactyl, and his best wing-pals, Ima Pigeon and Doug Pigeon.

Willems is a #1 New York Times best-selling author and illustrator who has received the Caldecott Honor on three occasions (for Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus!, Knuffle Bunny: A Cautionary Tale, and Knuffle Bunny Too: A Case of Mistaken Identity). His popular Elephant & Piggie early reader series has been awarded two Theodor Seuss Geisel Medals (for There Is a Bird on Your Head! and Are You Ready to Play Outside?) and five Geisel Honors (for We Are in a Book!, I Broke My Trunk!, Let’s Go for a Drive!, A Big Guy Took My Ball!, and Waiting Is Not Easy!). Mo began his career as a writer on Sesame Street, where he received six Emmy Awards.,

GUMBALL IS SPEAKING ISIZULU — RIGHT NOW! As Cartoon Network Africa Makes Gumball’s World Sound Like Home

Elmore, the quirky, animated town of Gumball, has always been wonderfully weird, and now it’s proudly local too! Starting this month, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball is available in isiZulu on Cartoon Network, giving kids the joy of hearing Gumball, Darwin, and the gang in South Africa’s most widely spoken language.

Gumball’s jokes, Darwin’s heart, Anais’s smarts, and Richard’s silliness, all now voiced in isiZulu, transform the chaos into something wonderfully familiar. With Elmore’s everyday madness sounding magically new - from schoolyard shenanigans to family meltdowns - the laughs now echo with a whole new rhythm.

And because toggling languages should be as fun as the show itself, Cartoon Network has dropped a cute tutorial video showing kids how to switch to isiZulu. Think of it as a mini adventure: click, toggle, boom, suddenly Gumball is speaking your language.

MultiChoice is currently embroiled in a carriage dispute with Warner Bros. Discovery affecting Cartoon Network and 11 other channels. As noted, they're at risk of possible termination on both DStv and GOtv platforms across Africa.

Developing Story: Channels Likely Remaining On DStv Include Cartoon Network, TNT, Discovery Channel And Discovery Family

As consumers have already heard, talks between MultiChoice and Warner Bros. Discovery regarding the carriage agreement for Cartoon Network and 11 other channels are on the line. MultiChoice sent a notice out earlier in the month about the pending disaster.

Since then, a petition had started to garner traction online from a concerned DStv subscriber and has since crossed the 300 milestone.

In recent developments, it appears that Cartoon Network, TNT, Discovery Channel and Discovery Family won't be leaving DStv. As a termination notice has only been sent out for TLC, HGTV and Warner's 6 other channels.

The message goes as follows Dear viewer, please note this channel may no longer form part of our content line-up from 31 December 2025. Thank you.

The fact MultiChoice states "may no longer" doesn't mean their fates are set in stone just yet but that some progress has already been established. This comprises of brands such as Cartoon Network, TNT, Discovery Channel and Discovery Family.

It's very likely that more channels could join the lineup but as of right now it appears MultiChoice will be removing 8 additional channels alongside the 4 channels by Paramount. They had recently extended the DStv Upsize promotion giving them ample time to resolve the matter.

Max & the Midknights will premiere on the Nickelodeon Global pan-regional feed on Wednesday 3rd December 2025.

A Restless Knight, Part One: After a raucous season one, Max & the Midknights are back and ready for action! There's just one problem-Byjovia is quiet! Too quiet... (#301; season three premiere)*

Max is in training in knight school, Kevyn runs the royal library, Simon helps animals in need, Millie is in training with Mumblin, and Uncle Budrick is the royal troubadour. When a wild beast known as a Clatterback shows up in Byjovia and threatens to do major damage, Max saves the day, making it even more apparent that she really wants to be out on the road helping people. Her desire for a new adventure is answered when Queen Nerelia of Tresk shows up begging for help.

A Restless Knight, Part Two: When the Gnomes of Tresk are kidnapped by a mysterious evil, Max & the Midknights volunteer to save them, but Max's plans for her second quest go awry when she learns not all the Midknights are as eager as she is to go on the mission. (#302)

When the Gnomes of Tresk are kidnapped by a mysterious evil, Max & the Midknights volunteer to save them. Max is thrilled to go on a new quest, but her plans go awry when she learns that Simon doesn't want to go. Having just settled into Byjovia with his new family, Simon would rather stay home. Despite feeling sad, the Midknights tell him that they understand how he feels. Sadly, Mumblin must also sit out the journey after an accidental tumble down the library steps leaves him in a full body cast. The Midknights set sail down two members. The morning they leave though, Simon has a change of heart. With the help of his animal patients, Simon rushes to the docks to try and catch the Midknights before they sail away from Byjovia. As Simon nears the ship, he and the Midknights are confronted by the angry Clatterback. In the nick of time, Simon convinces the animal to let them go. Simon tells the Midknights that he has changed his mind. They are his family and he's going on this quest with them.

The Spirit of the Sea: As Max and the Midknights sail across the sea on their quest, they get spooked when Uncle Budrick claims there's a ghost on board their ship! Meanwhile, Mumblin fears someone is out to get him. (#303)

As the Midknights sail across the sea on their latest quest, Max realizes the gang might be a little rusty. Kevyn and Millie aren't seeing eye to eye, Simon is preoccupied helping his animal clients from long distance, and Uncle Budrick is terribly seasick! However, Max is certain she can get them working as a team. But when Uncle Budrick is spooked by something sinister in the shadows below deck, he is convinced he saw a ghost! Determined to get back on mission, Max leads the charge to search the ship and find whatever mysterious presence might be haunting them. They soon find there's no ghost at all-they've been spooked by a stowaway, the former King of Byjovia, Gastley! But as the Midknights are distracted, the ship veers off course and into a powerful storm! They quickly realize they must act as a team in order to steady the ship before it capsizes! Meanwhile, back in Byjovia, Mumblin fears someone might be behind his recent spate of accidents, and takes matters into his own hands...

The Trial of Mumblin the Magician: After being blown off course, the Midknights navigate a set of treacherous waterfalls as they try to reach the Gnomes of Tresk. Meanwhile, Mumblin pleads for his freedom in Wizard Court where the odds are stacked against him. (#304)

When the Midknights' ship is set off course, the team must survive treacherous new waters. Before Max can enact her plan, she is summoned to Wizard Court where Mumblin is on trial for his life. Max must help Mumblin prove that he is a good wizard and that he escaped the afterlife to help the Midknights defeat Fendra. If Max can't, Mumblin will be sent away for good. Max calls on the Midknights to testify on Mumblin's behalf. When those attempts fail, Max takes the stand. At first, Max's emotional testimony seems to win over the court, but her pleas for Mumblin's freedom backfire and Mumblin is ultimately found guilty. Luckily, Kevyn discovers a way to save Mumblin. Max must battle the Worms of Justice and if she wins, then Mumblin will be set free. Transported to a desert, Max battles giant worms. In the end, Max defeats the worms and Mumblin wins his trial. Unfortunately, the Midknights are sent back to their boat, which is headed straight for a massive waterfall!

The voice cast behind the Midknights, a group of misfits each with their own unique talent, include: Blu del Barrio (Star Trek: Discovery) as Max, a brave and determined girl ready to take on any challenge headed her way; Melissa Villaseñor (Saturday Night Live) as Millie, a wacky yet super positive girl who brings the power of magic to the Midknights; Zeno Robinson (Transformers: EarthSpark) as Simon, Millie’s street-savvy and sometimes sarcastic companion; and Caleb Yen (Beyblade X) as Kevyn, the bookish genius with a photographic memory. Together, the group accomplishes nearly everything that they set their mind to achieve.

Alongside the Midknights, Jeremy Rowley (iCarly) lends his voice as Uncle Budrick, Max’s lovably silly parental figure and professional troubadour, Gary Anthony Williams (Central Park) voices Mumblin, a famous retired magician who helps guide the Midknights on their quests, Brian Stepanek (The Loud House) voices King Gastley, the nefarious ruler of Byjovia, willing to do whatever it takes to maintain his throne, and India de Beaufort (It’s Pony) voices Fendra, a dark sorceress working for King Gastley.

Produced by Nickelodeon Animation in Burbank, Max & the Midknights is executive produced by Lincoln Peirce (Big Nate) and Jane Startz (Ella Enchanted). Sharon Flynn (All Hail King Julien) and David Skelly (Toy Story 2) serve as co-executive producers and showrunners. Development and production is overseen by Claudia Spinelli, Senior Vice President, TV Series Animation, Nickelodeon, Nathan Schram, Vice President, Development, Nickelodeon Animation, and Stephanie Alpert, Vice President, Production, Nickelodeon Animation. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

December 2025 On Nicktoons Across Europe And Africa | Channel Premiere: A Fairly Odd Christmas Movie | Returning Shows Including The Super Duber Bunny League | More

Get ready for an action-packed, event-filled month that also brings some unexpected moves from Nicktoons toward the end of 2025. Let’s start with the most obvious premiere: The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish, which arrived in November, will finish its run in the first week of December. The remaining five episodes – including the infamous “banned” episode that Nickelodeon later pulled internationally – will air in their usual time slots. After Hazel says goodbye, the heroic (and sometimes villainous) critters of Mr. Fuzzleglove return with the The Flufflekins Bunny League. New episodes have been airing abroad since September, and Nicktoons will blast through most of the remaining episodes in just two weeks. This batch not only kicks off Season 2, but also includes a Christmas special that premieres almost simultaneously with the world premiere – naturally scheduled right around the holidays. From this point on, it’s all holiday-themed episodes and movies, all debuting as part of the big Christmas marathon.

The first festive premiere is the 2016 animated movie Albert (a Christmas-obsessed little fire tree), getting its channel premiere on Christmas morning, with an encore on the morning after Boxing Day. Shortly after Albert comes a historic moment for the channel: its very first live-action content ever – A Fairly Odd Christmas (the 2012 live-action movie). These two premieres are exciting not only because one is live-action, but also because Nicktoons is finally opening the door to movies in general – something that could mean a lot more channel-premiere films in the future. Finally, brand-new holiday episodes of The Loud House and The Patrick Star Show will also arrive in late-afternoon slots during the festive period.

The channel is treating viewers to lots of new content this month, including the brand-new PAW Patrol special.

The month kicks off with Rubble & Crew – the channel will air the entire second half of Season 3, meaning that the next time we get new episodes, it will already be Season 4. By the way, the Christmas-themed episode from Season 2 that was skipped last year will finally air this December.

There will also be Christmas specials premiering from Blaze and the Monster Machines (two festive episodes from Season 8) and a previously unaired episode from PAW Patrol Season 11. The holiday season will also be brightened by the channel premiere of the movie Albert, but the real highlight is the PAW Patrol TV movie Christmas special. The second half of the month belongs to the brand-new Season 4 of Dora – and strangely enough, the channel is showing the entire season.

Disney's Linear TV Channels Return To Sky Italia

Disney's linear TV channels are coming back to Sky. In a few days, as ItaliaOggi can exclusively reveal, the partnership agreement between the Burbank giant and Comcast’s broadcaster will be officially announced. The deal will bring some of Disney’s rich content catalogue — including Disney, FX, Hulu, etc. — back to good old traditional linear television channels, which, contrary to what many analysts have claimed for years, never actually go out of fashion.

Soon, therefore, Sky Italia subscribers will enjoy a new Disney-branded channel, with potential future developments in the areas of animation, TV series, movies, and documentaries.

Sky’s strategy

All of this fits into a broader strategic redesign in which Sky is reshaping its partnership perimeter based on the value perceived by its subscribers. This same logic explains the recent acquisitions of TV rights for basketball and rugby, the renewal of the UEFA agreement for Champions League rights from 2027–2031, and the ongoing negotiations with Liberty Media-Dorna for the renewal of MotoGP rights (whose current deal expires at the end of 2025). MotoGP currently finds itself with TV ratings halved, a championship of little interest, and no standout personalities apart from Marc Márquez — yet it is unlikely to give up its relationship with Sky (the platform that still guarantees the greatest visibility for the two-wheeled circus) and may simply accept a lower fee for the rights.

The end of the partnership with Warner Bros. Discovery

The agreement with Disney comes just as Sky Italia’s long relationship with Warner Bros. Discovery is officially coming to an end. As is already known, from 1 July 2025 all Eurosport, Discovery, and even the free-to-air channels of the WBD group disappeared from Sky. On 31 December 2025, Cartoon Network, Boomerang, all Warner films, and new HBO series will definitively leave the platform. HBO, controlled by WBD, was the home of flagship titles such as House of the Dragon, Game of Thrones, The Sopranos, Succession, The Last of Us, The White Lotus, and The Pitt.

The future of HBO and Warner content on Sky
From 2026 onwards, Sky will still be able to broadcast new seasons of most of those existing franchises (with the exception of The Pitt), but no longer on an exclusive basis. However, it will no longer have direct access to new Warner or HBO films and brand-new series.

At least not directly. Because, thanks to the many new partnerships Sky is signing, Warner content that has “left through the door” may very well come back in “through the window” — possibly via Peacock, Netflix, or other platforms.

Could Warner Bros. Discovery Be Moving Various Content From Cartoonito To Cartoon Network In Africa?

In March 2023, it was announced that Boomerang would be rebranding to Cartoonito as part of an alignment strategy. At the time, it was stated that all of Boomerang's shows would be retained once the channel switches to Cartoonito this included shows like Mr. Bean and Looney Tunes Cartoons.

Cartoonito is a preschool brand operated by Warner Bros. Discovery that offers fun and entertaining content for kids and their families. This was this structure the company opted to market in some parts of Europe while others tried to align it with Disney Jr. and Nick Jr.

But alas, Mr. Magoo was announced as a new series for Cartoon Network although being made available to Cartoonito when it was still Boomerang. It could imply one of two scenarios first Warner Bros. Discovery blantly lied another could be that their removals part of the long term goals.

This is what happened to Cartoonito in Latin America when it replaced Boomerang so why would Africa be immune to these changes. Warner Bros. Discovery had a goal and that was to get Boomerang viewers to latch onto Cartoonito to avoid further alienation.

Warner Bros. Discovery in Africa had stated the decision to transform Boomerang into Cartoonito was part of an "alignment strategy". The reality is in most markets Cartoonito is basically another Nick Jr. or Cbeebies with gaps in-between for other content.

Cartoon Network has been getting various content Warner Bros. Discovery marketed for Boomerang like Tiny Toons Looniversity and soon Scooby-Doo And Guess Who?. Even Scooby-Doo Mystery Incorporated that went to Boomerang after its run has resurfaced on the network.

What happened to Cartoonito retaining all of Boomerang's IPs are these set to become an afterthought?

Cartoon Network will be airing Space Jam: A New Legacy in December and it wouldn't surprise me if it led to the addition of Looney Tunes Cartoons. Some consumers had stated that these shows were too mature for a preschool brand and Warner Bros. Discovery let this subside for almost two years.

They led some people to believe that Cartoonito was Boomerang's equivalent within Africa yet you have all this content on Cartoon Network. In the UK, most of this content including Tiny Toons Looniversity is being distributed on Boomerang.

On the upside, I don't think most consumers would have noticed or cared as much if these shows were to suddenly disappear from Cartoonito. They have prioritised on other shows like Zig & Sharko, Batwheels and Cocomelon it could've been a lot worser had this been done two years earlier.

If anything this change does add more confusion and mystery, Boomerang had prioritized on reruns for their own shows. Seeing as it's no longer Boomerang how much of that would be distributed on Cartoonito because so far it seems like the stars could be aligning with Cartoon Network.

Cartoon Network Will Not Be Airing Iyanu Following It's African Release On Showmax

Adapted from Roye Okupe’s graphic novel series “Iyanu: Child of Wonder,” published by YouNeek Studios and Dark Horse Comics (the powerhouse behind “The Umbrella Academy” and “Hellboy”), the series is helmed by Roye Okupe himself, who was born and raised in Nigeria and now serves as Creator, Executive Producer and Showrunner. The series is produced by Lion Forge Entertainment, a leading Black-owned animation studio in North America.

Drawing on Nigerian culture, music, and mythology, the animated series follows Iyanu, a brave young orphan living in the magical kingdom of Yorubaland. While studying history and ancient arts, she yearns for a normal life—until a looming threat awakens divine powers not seen since the legendary Age of Wonders. Accompanied by newfound friends Biyi, Toye, and a magical leopard named Ekun, Iyanu sets out to uncover the source of this evil, unlocking her destiny along the way.

The entire first season of IYANU was made available across 44 African countries on streaming partner Showmax beginning June 13. Other broadcasters like ITVX will also stream the series across the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.

The talented all-African IYANU voice cast includes: Serah Johnson as Iyanu; Okey Jude as Biyi, Iyanu’s carefree adventurer friend; Samuel Kugbiyi as Toye, Iyanu’s bookworm companion; Adesua Etomi-Wellington as Olori; Blossom Chukwujekwu as Kanfo, Toye's father; Stella Damasus as Sewa; Shaffy Bello as Emi – The One Mother; and Ike Ononye as Elder Alapani.

The show’s executive producers are David Steward II, Stephanie Sperber, Kirsten Newlands and Matt Heath from Lion Forge Entertainment, Roye Okupe of YouNeek Studios, Erica Dupuis of Impact X Capital, Ryan Haidarian of Forefront Media Group and Doug Schwalbe of Superprod.

Fans of Iyanu are likely waiting for its official rollout on Cartoon Network in Africa and other parts of the world but that won't be the case unfortunately. According to a rep at WBD, the series is not expected to air on Cartoon Network should there be any updates it will be published.

It should be noted that although Warner Bros. Discovery publicised it as an original series it's being helmed at Lion Forge Entertainment. They are currently it's distribution for Cartoon Network and HBO Max but this is only applicable to the US leaving the window open for broadcasters like Showmax.

Showmax being owned by Canal+'s MultiChoice also manage the Africa Magic channels and distribute Play Room in the market making them possible broadcasters for Iyanu. As seen with other African animated series like Twende and Jay Jay The Chosen One.

Cartoon Network International Brings Back New Episodes Of The Wonderfully Weird World Of Gumball In February 2026

Following the phenomenal success of The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball, which scored a perfect 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, Cartoon Network Africa is thrilled to announce that brand-new episodes will premiere in February 2026.

Produced by Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, the beloved animated series continues its legacy of comedy and creativity with 20 fresh episodes packed with outrageous humour, heartfelt moments, and features original music numbers that bring Elmore to life like never before.

The upcoming stories dive further into hilariously bizarre family dynamics and schoolyard chaos. From Gumball facing the most difficult bike ride of his life, to Darwin’s rise as a power-hungry witch, expect Gumball and Darwin to tackle everything from awkward promposals to epic party entrances and uncover secrets through a mysterious diary. Anais also takes centre stage, grappling with premature ageing under family stress, while Nicole teams up with Yuki to impress at Career Day, and Richard schemes to cool off during a heatwave.

Beyond the Watterson household, Elmore Junior High becomes a battleground of eccentric challenges, from fighting off an evil guidance counsellor to travelling to the underworld with Carrie. Fans can look forward to spoofs of cult classics, April Fool’s showdowns, and sketch-style episodes exploring the hidden lives of Elmore’s residents.

Record-Breaking Performance

Gumball’s return to Cartoon Network in October was a cultural moment, launching 20 brand-new episodes and reaffirming its status as the #1 kids’ and family IP across the Cartoon Network ecosystem. In 2025, the series smashed records, drawing 54 million viewers on linear and generating over 150 million organic social media views, plus 28 million social engagements in just 10 days. Gumball continues to dominate with 16 billion lifetime views across YouTube on Cartoon Network channels, 1.8 billion of these in 2025 alone, and over 6.5 million interactions on Cartoon Network’s GameOn! experience on Roblox this year. On TV, it was the most-watched show on the channel, and ranked #1 in its premiere slot in markets including the UK, Poland, Spain, and South Africa, #2 in countries including Turkey, Portugal, and Singapore, plus claimed a top four ranking in Japan.

Warner Bros. Discovery, GM, International Kids, Animation and Franchise, Vanessa Brookman says: “It’s an amazing privilege to be able to bring more of this wonderful series to audiences around the world. In a world where kids’ attention is more fragmented than ever, success starts with exceptional content. Gumball’s latest launch proves that when you pair world-class storytelling with a smart, ultra-targeted campaign, you don’t just reach audiences, you spark global conversations and shared experiences. This combination is at the heart of our strategy and why Gumball continues to lead the way in kids’ entertainment.”

Created and executive produced by Ben Bocquelet, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball is a quarter-hour animated comedy series that blends an eclectic mix of media styles, including 2D & 3D animation, CGI, puppetry, photorealism and live action, into a wildly imaginative world defined by its vibrant visual style and sharp meta humour. Matt Layzell and Erik Fountain serve as Executive Producers and Series Directors. The Composer for the series is Xav Clarke, and Joe Sparrow serves as Art Director. The stellar voice cast includes Alkaio Thiele as Gumball, Hero Hunter as Gumball’s younger brother Darwin, Kinza Syed Khan as younger sister Anais, Teresa Gallagher as Gumball’s mother Nicole, and Dan Russell as his father Richard, among many others.
