eNCA reveals an empowering new brand identity with an emotive call to action, inspiring South Africa to make the news their own. From 1 May, viewers will see an updated logo and fresh look for the channel. The channel made history when it launched on 1 June 2008 as South Africa's first 24-hour news service. Since then, it's dominated the market as a leading and discerning voice in the South African local news landscape and trusted as a reliable source of news and current affairs. As part of the refresh, viewers can expect some updates in the daily broadcast schedule. Viewers can look forward to entertaining mornings with a simulcast of The Morning Show (currently on e.tv) from 6 to 9am, followed by Tumelo Mothotoane and Gareth Edwards on NewsLink from 9am to midday. During the month, SABC 2 became the first channel which saw an adjustment to their daytime offering which included the axing of daytime rebroadcasts of Skeem Saam and Generations: The Legacy as the public broadcaster is looking to restructure rebroadcasts. Interesting to note, 7de Laan was silently removed from the daytime schedule of SABC 3 but Generations: The Legacy remains onboard. No clue if that will be phased out in the process considering the upcoming schedule adjustment awaiting viewers on SABC 1. Unlike SABC 2, the only adjustment coming to SABC 1 is for the daytime repeat of Muvhango. From the 1st of May, rebroadcasts of SABC 3's The Estate will replace Muvhango when the public broadcaster clearly stated these content would be seen on their respective brand. Similar to SABC eKhaya's failed launch in April , could it be possible that the public broadcaster got cold feet on the idea of scrapping all these repeats so they're just opting to minimise the offeri

Microids has announced a partnership with Banijay Kids and Family for a new video game based on the animated series Totally Spies! It will launch for consoles and PC in 2024. The woman at the centre of one of the most notorious episodes in US racial history, the lynching of black teenager Emmett Till, has died. Carolyn Bryant Donham, 88, died in a hospice in Louisiana on Tuesday. Her accusation that the 14-year-old Mr Till had whistled at her caused his death at the hands of two white men, but also became a catalyst for the civil rights movement. In August 1955, Mr Till was visiting relatives in Mississippi. Ms Donham, then 21 and known as Carolyn Bryant, accused him of making improper advances on her at the store she worked at in the small community of Money. One of Mr Till's cousins, Reverend Wheeler Parker, said that the boy whistled at the woman, an act that was contrary to the racist social codes of the era in the Deep South. It is believed that Mr Till was identified to Ms Donham's then-husband Roy Bryant and his half-brother JW Milam, who abducted the teenager several nights after the incident. Discovery has acquired the seventh season of spy-fi animation series  Totally Spies!  across EMEA and the U.S. French broadcaster Gulli and Discovery Kids LatAm have previously been announced as co-producers of the Zodiak Kids & Family France (part of Banijay Kids & Family) show. The 2-D animated franchise returns to screens in 2024, following its original six-season run beginning in 2001. Premiering on Cartoon Network U.S. and later launching on Max in EMEA, the upcoming series follows the three legendary secret agents, Sam, Clover and Alex, as they move to a new city and take on a fresh crop of villains. The 26 x 22’ season will be produced by Benoît Di Sabatino and directed by Stephane Berry, who directed five previous seasons of the show. Gary Milne and Ludovic Taron serve as executive producers. Zodiak Kids & Family Distribution handles global distribution for the franchise.

Netflix Inc said on Tuesday it plans to invest $2.5 billion in South Korea over the next four years to produce Korean TV series, movies and unscripted shows, doubling the amount the company has invested in the market since 2016. "We were able to make this decision because we have great confidence that the Korean creative industry will continue to tell great stories," said Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos The US streaming service announced this after a meeting between South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol and Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos. Yoon arrived in Washington on Monday for a six-day state visit. Minibods debuted on YouTube April 15 aimed at young kids and families. The channel is a non-dialogue, slapstick comedy series which follows the adventures of six furry friends who bring the silly to every situation and overcome life’s hurdles in unconventional ways. The kids entertainment company is also behind the three-time Emmy-nominated Oddbods, which has garnered nearly 30 million YouTube subscribers across its various dedicated channels. Minibods features five beloved characters from Oddbods – Bubbles, Jeff, Newt, Pogo, and Fuse – along with new addition Lulu. Each episode is told from the perspective of one of the six Minibods as they go through adventures and face kid-relatable obstacles, such as learning how to ride a bicycle and baking. During the month, Novela Magic was ripped away from more consumers across Africa with consumers wondering why they're paying more money if they're getting less channels and this comes almost 4 months after its exit from the South African market. As seen in selected territories, MultiChoice allocated the general entertainment channel Magic Showcase and film channel CineMagic to low tiered consumers who weren't able to access or view the local content seen on M-Net and Mzansi Wethu. In short, MultiChoice is done adding channels like Discovery Family or at least to top tier consumers who could already view the shows on Discovery Channel, Food Network, Investigation Discovery and HGTV. The Home Channel (DStv 176) is a South African based TV channel owned by Arena Holdings alongside Ignition positions itself as the home of the latest decor trends and home improvement ideas. It was the market's first channel dedicated for home based programming. Since it's inception in October 2007, the channel has produced a number of original content including Colour with Panache, Finest Homes and Nadiya's Time and sourced a number of shows such as Selling House, My Dream Home and Coast Vs. Country. Since 2022, The Home Channel is currently operating on the Openview platform through The Home Channel+ in a seperate agreement with eMedia Investments. Discovery which led to a lot of outrage from consumers following the cutback of staff and content and 2023 is where they look to start a new chapter. With questions surrounding the future of Cartoonito USA after garnering popularity internationally and on HBO Max. It was reported that some of Warner Bros. content such as Baby Looney Tunes and Sylvester & Tweety Mysteries would be made available to Discovery Family. Sega, the Japanese-headquartered video game company best known in the West for its Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, is acquiring Angry Birds developer Rovio, the companies announced today. The Finnish headquartered mobile games developer will be acquired for €706 million (around $775 million), which The Wall Street Journal notes represents a roughly a 19 percent premium over its share price at close on Friday. The deal is expected to close by the end of September. In a press release, Sega said it hopes to use “Rovio’s distinctive know-how in live service mobile game operation, to bring Sega’s current and new titles to the global mobile gaming market.” It sounds like a similar aim to what Sega’s rival Nintendo has been doing with its franchises, with smartphone releases like Mario Kart Tour, Pokémon Go, and Super Mario Run.
