Johannesburg, 26 February 2019: Viacom International Media Networks Africa (VIMN Africa), with its major distribution partner, MultiChoice, is taking its flagship local youth culture channel to a broader South African audience by launching MTV Base on DStv Access. MTV Base brings subscribers the best of locally produced content from Tuesday, 5 March this year. The Youth and Music entertainment channel airs home grown shows like Gqom Nation with Busisiwa and Ntando Duma, edutainment series MTV Shuga starring Thuso Mbedu and Mohale Motaung along with popular Newsish featuring local VJ talent from Tshego Koke, Farieda Metsileng to recent competition winner Ntandose Mosibi. New details learned by The Information suggests Disney’s shift will be broader than is widely understood, affecting TV services around the world, as well as its own children’s cable channels. Disney executives have told some TV networks in Europe and pay TV services in Latin America that it plans to end most of its licensing deals for Disney-made TV shows and movies in the next two or three years, according to two people familiar with the matter.
