During the year, eMedia Investments unveiled Roekeloos Dade of which it's Afrikaans title had yet to be revealed at the time. The series was initially slated to air on eExtra in the timeslot currently reserved by Om Elke Draai before it got scooped up by e.tv. Following Eskom's unbearable power cuts it has led majority of households to miss out on primetime shows and even catch-up on repeats. Power Up was one way to manage those hours lost within the week to load shedding and if anything Eskom's actions had prompted other businesses such as MultiChoice to rollout a similar offering for consumers. From what was mentioned initially about Power Up was that it would serve as a pop-up channel which might simmer down depending on how quick Eskom was able to get their affairs in order. Tom And Jerry Time has been cancelled on Cartoon Network and Max In 2021, Warner Bros. Animation announced that production had begun on a new preschool series based on Tom And Jerry that would debut on Cartoon Network and Max. Sam Register would serve as executive producer while Will Finn and Denise Downer would serve as showrunner and story editor. But in a recent conversation with one of the crew members, it was confirmed that Warner Bros. Animation had halted further production of Tom And Jerry Time and this doesn't come as a surprise as Warner had axed several productions last year and part of this was produced to its entirety. The sales of physical media, including Blu-Ray and DVDs, have been in decline for years, following the increased popularity of streaming services and a shift to digital movie releases. Recently, Disney announced it was closing down its Movie Club program in Canada following a shift in consumer patterns to watching films on digital and Disney+. And now, according to Digital Bits, multiple industry, distributor, and retailer sources, Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment will be pulling out of distributing physical discs in Australia. Over the past few years, many retailers in Australia and other countries, have slowly been withdrawing physical media, including video games, movies and music from sale, as audiences shift to digital platforms. This alone is not surprising, but in the memo from WBD President of International Gerhard Zeiler, it was announced that his role would not be replaced according to a memo obtained by the media. Here is part of that memo: Last year, we unveiled a new org structure for International, which we believed best positioned us for success at that time. But we also acknowledged that in an ever-changing industry and market, we would need to continue to evolve in a thoughtful and strategic way, along with the climate around us. Seven months into 2023, although we remain confident about our trajectory as a business, we are at another inflection point, and one where the global economy has not rebounded as quickly as we had hoped. As such, today I’m announcing that Robert Blair, President, WBD International TV Distribution, will be departing WBD.

Last year, MultiChoice renewed their partnership with eMedia Investments for eNCA which meant eNuus on kykNET could live on a couple of years. Unfortunately, this new agreement didn't include eToonz, eExtra, eMovies and eMovies Extra therefore ending it's run on DStv. At the time, it was learnt that MultiChoice would adding more channels during that financial period including Movie Room and DreamWorks and also extending the reach of existing channels KIX and PBS Kids. They even got kykNET to rollout it's international telenovela slate. But that's where things get interesting because around the time all this happened. The courts made their ruling and it was advised that MultiChoice retain these channels following pending investigation which created an overflow of content amongst their portfolio. Warner Bros Discovery-owned children’s channel Boomerang is rebranding as Cartoonito in Turkey later in the year with South-east Asia, Taiwan and Hong Kong from July 28. The rebranded channel is focused on being more inclusive to preschool viewers, according to the recently merged US studio, and comes after a Cartoonito-branded block launched on Boomerang and sister channel Cartoon Network in the region in 2022.
