Home And Garden Channel HGTV Coming ToDStv In July

Discovery and MultiChoice will add the HGTV channel to its DStv satellite pay-TV service from mid-July, bringing DStv subscribers a new TV channel with fresh content about home improvement, do-it-yourself house renovations, design, real estate and gardening.

HGTV will launch on 15 July on DStv and will be available to DStv Premium, DStv Compact Plus and DStv Compact subscribers in South Africa.

It's not yet known whether HGTV, which initially stood for "Home and Garden Television" when it started in 1994, will launch as a high-definition (HD) channel on DStv in South Africa.

HGTV ended 2018 as the 4th most watched pay-TV channel in the United States, where it is the leading home and lifestyle channel and often gets cited by pay-TV subscribers as one of the "must-keep channels" and one of the reasons why viewers pay for subscription television.

In November 2017 MultiChoice did a 3-week marketing research tryout of HGTV on DStv, when the channel was run as a prime time content block on the Travel Channel during weekdays and over weekends. It led to a hugely favourable response from DStv subscribers.

Besides America, HGTV is already available in Canada, the Caribbean, Asia and Australia and will also launch in Germany in June, marking the channel's first European rollout since Discovery completed its takeover of Scripps Networks Interactive in 2018.

Former Scripps sister channels – now all belonging to Discovery like the Travel Channel (DStv 179 / Cell C black 255), the Food Network (DStv 175) and Fine Living (Cell C black 251 / StarSat 281) – are already available in South Africa and throughout the continent on various pay-TV services.

Yet the addition of HGTV makes it Discovery Inc.'s first channel brand from what was Scripps, to be launched in South Africa and Africa as Discovery realigns and scales its expanded collection of lifestyle channels in the territory.

HGTV's content covers six basic pillars, ranging from buying and selling property, home renovation, investing in improving property to sell it for a profit (flipping), home improvement and dream homes.

HGTV will launch with an extensive slate of home interest programming, with many of the shows on the schedule during South African prime time that have never been seen here on television before or are first-to-market episodes.

The home improvement and aspirational property programming on HGTV will aim to help DStv subscribers with inspiration, instruction about renovations and the selling and buying of homes, as well as providing entertainment, fresh ideas, the latest trends, and access to celebrity homes and sought-after real estate listings across the globe.

"HGTV shows were placed on the Travel Channel in late-2017, and the content flew. HGTV is now going to launch on 15 July on DStv, and we're very, very excited about the content on the channel," says Henry Windridge, the head of brand at Discovery Inc. for the African and Middle East region.

"It's very much focused on the genres that we know work very well in the United States Renovation shows, for instance, are such a core part of HGTV. It's not about decorating."

HGTV'S PROGRAMMING SLATE
HGTV's programming launch line-up on DStv between 20:00 and 22:00 will be stratified according to days of the week that will each have a soft theme.

Viewers will be able to see property buying and selling shows on Mondays, renovation shows on Tuesdays, property seeking shows on Wednesdays, property flipping shows on Thursdays, renovation and flipping shows on Fridays, "tiny" home shows on Saturdays, and ending with aspirational and dream home shows on Sundays.

On Mondays, DStv subscribers will be able to watch shows like My Lottery Dream Home and Beachfront Bargain Hunt Renovation; Good Bones and Home Town on Tuesdays; House Hunters USA and House Hunters Renovations on Wednesdays; and Flip or Flop Nashville and Boise Boys on Thursdays.

Flip or Flop Atlanta and Lakefront Bargain Hunt Renovation will be shown on Fridays; Tiny House, Big Living and Tiny Paradise on Saturdays; and with Sundays belonging to Beachfront Bargain Hunt and Mediterranean Life.

Its only temporary so MultiChoice could be testing out the content again if all goes well it could come back or stay after August 22nd since it is a 3 month pop-up channel.

The PBS content expires at the end of May a few days before the pop-up channel arrives. So don't be surprised if there was some announcement that it would be a permanent addition to DStv later in 2019.

One fine day, Eva meets a boy named José
Ignacio, a wealthy young man who makes

just to lure her in. The young Eva falls in
love and ends up pregnant but Jose
Ignacio leaves her. After giving birth, a
terrible car accident abruptly ends Eva's
life. Rosa, who was also in the accident, is
mistakenly identified as Eva in the

she really is Eva so that little Eduardito will

entering the sophisticated fashion company
V&M Fashion, she becomes the personal
secretary of the company president.
Although she is ridiculed and humiliated on
a daily basis for being completely lacking
in style, Betty is more than willing to not
be defeated in this ruthless war of
appearances. While she is extremely
competent and has great plans for personal
growth, none of her many qualities will be
able to help Betty find true love.

Woman Of Steel 5 (NEW)

Pregnant during eight months, the time
comes when Vicenta Acero (Carolina
Miranda ) decides to bury her husband
Daniel Philips (Luis Ernesto Franco), who
died after six months have been in a coma.
During the funeral of her husband, Vicenta
communicates anonymously with Alberto
Fuentes (David Chocarro) FBI agent to
inform him that the murderer of her
husband is at the funeral, after following
the track of the call, arrives at the funeral
in where is Vicenta and he realizes that it
was a false alarm and begins to argue with
Vicenta. During the discussion Vicenta
begins to give indications of giving birth
and there is only time for her to give birth.
Alberto of the nothing receives the son of
Vicenta and between them a very strong
bond is born that unites them immediately.
On the other hand, El Teca (William Miller),
who supposedly died at the hands of
Salvador Acero (Michel Duval) 5 years ago.
El Teca returns after spending 6 years in
prison in the United States just to get
revenge on the Acero Family, who ended up
with his entire family and his cartel. His
only goal is to kill Vicenta's son. Vicenta
and Salvador both dedicated to the
breeding of horses and Josefina and El
Gallo dedicated to politics, have been
completely isolated from all the problems
for 6 years and away from any danger, but
suddenly they will be forced to flee when
they find out about the repair of El Teca.
Who will use unimaginable methods to
destroy them all. Meanwhile, La Tuti ( Ana
Lucía Domínguez) has managed to keep her
son out of Mexico thanks to the profits she
has obtained in her business of exotic
dancers, but she will be forced to be always
protected by guaruras, to avoid that El Teca
extorts her and wants to take away her son
Álvaro.
Despite all her efforts to keep her family
together and safe, Vicenta will make a

character rebels against these abuses.

What To Expect From The New Youth Channel Coming Soon On DStv? [Updated 10/05/2019]

MultiChoice has been quite lately with channel additions either they don't have the time or there's nothing exciting to boast about. They recently launched the overdue news channel Newzroom Afrika and now their next target is PBS Kids. 

For sometime I've been following the latest developments of this youth channel with less input from MultiChoice. PBS Kids was first added through their Catch-Up service on DStv Now as an experimental channel last year to see if the content would blend with its viewers. 

Thanks to MultiChoice Kenya we finally know that it will be a new channel addition to DStv. As some may already know PBS Kids exists as a programming block on PBS and a video channel in the United States. 

From what I've heard in other markets those who get the standalone channel through cable recieve the outdated version while those who stream the channel and possibly get it as a programming block get the latest content. All these shows are costly so whenever PBS commissions a new youth oriented show they either cancel the show or put it on an indefinite hiatus with Cartoon Network only falling through the hiatus and lack of cancellation. 

For those living in Africa you'll discover that PBS Kids' latest shows like Ready Jet Go, Wild Kratts and Daniel Tigers Neighbourhood are available through MultiChoice's Showmax cancels any possibilities of the PBS Kids video app. MultiChoice is currently working on some tests for the channel in the i-plate section so we could expect an official announcement in the next 2 weeks. My assumption is the channel will launch on the 3rd of June if not later on channel 318 when the contents expires at the end of May. 

At the moment, PBS Kids' schedule on the i-plate consists of double bills with 7/8 shows currently seen on DStv Now air new episodes 7 days a week like Zee World. It could change when it launches only time will tell, here's what to expect from this new youth channel:

ARTHUR (1996-)
The show is set in the fictional American city of Elwood City, and revolves around the lives of 8-year-old Arthur Read, an anthropomorphic aardvark, his friends and family, and their daily interactions with each other.

MISTER ROGERS' NEIGHBOURHOOD (1968-2001)
Fred Rogers explores various topics for young viewers through presentations and music, both in his world and in the Neighborhood of Make-Believe.

PEEP AND THE BIG WIDE WORLD (2004-2011)
Viewers follow Peep, Chirp, and Quack as they investigate and explore the world around them.

PINKALICIOUS & PETERRIFIC (2018–)
Pinkalicious imagines creative possibilities
everywhere she looks. Aimed at kids 3-5,
Pinkalicious & Peterrific encourages
viewers to engage in the creative arts and
self-expression, including music, dance,
theater and visual arts. Get creative with
Pinkalicious, Peter and all their friends in
Pinkville!

POSTCARDS FROM BUSTER (2004-2012)
Young rabbit Buster Baxter is a familiar face from the hit children's series "Arthur." Now he has his own show, traveling across America, Canada, Mexico and Puerto Rico with his dad.

TIME WARP TRIO (2005–2006)
For his tenth birthday, Joe receives a
mysterious blue book from his magician
uncle and namesake, "Joe the Magnificent,"
known only as "The Book". Using a number
of often unpredictable and/or unintentional
voice and print cues, The Book frequently
transports Joe and his friends, Fred and

According to insiders, PBS Kids lost the rights to this show. That could explain Pinkalicious' double bills and Ruff's absence from the i-plate unless they're plans in place to launch it later. Just like NickToons did with Totally Spies! and SpongeBob Squarepants with Disney Junior being Elena of Avalor.
FETCH! WITH RUFF RUFFMAN (2006-2010)
Blending live-action and animation, FETCH revolves around an animated dog named Ruff Ruffman, who develops, produces, and hosts his own reality TV show. Ruff runs the show from his state-of-the-art headquarters, otherwise known as his dog house, and issues wild and wacky real-world challenges to a group of 10-14 year old kid contestants.

FORMAT OF THE SCHEDULE (RECAP)
Please take note of the following:
1.If you see two different times separated by a / that means its a double run or bill. This format is applied to 99% of the schedule on a daily basis.
2.The 1% doesn't have a double bill and usually occurs at midnight (12am) or morning (6am) depending on the times in days.
3.The times are the only things that change on this channel drastically especially at midnight and morning e.g. Arthur does at 18:33 on Monday, 19:00 on Tuesday and 18:52 on Wednesday. The format and order remain the same (excluding 11pm-12am and 5am-6am).
4.When the channel does launch the schedule could be different from the i-plate perspective but I doubt that's gonna happen anytime soon.
5.Even though 99% of the schedule is double runs, it will change overtime. Some shows will fall off  the schedule to make way for new shows while others share a timeslot meaning less double runs.

My Golden Home (Ends 21st June)

This month on My Golden Home, Grandmother devises a master plan to get Lata kicked out of the house. Abha and Karan attend the honorary celebration for Jagmohan. Abha and Viren resolve matters and Karan seems pleased. Mishti receives good news from her doctor. Lata asks Raj for something that is difficult to give. Aruna is now staying with the Singhanias but grandmother is not letting her have it easy. Karan is due for his operation in Bombay. Karan's operation is successful, but the family is awaiting the results. Karan is set to come home, however Abha is nervous because not everyone agrees with her plan to hide the accident. A proposal comes for Priyanka's remarriage. A heated argument ensues. Aruna is arrested for trying to kill Lata. Sushant sends henchmen to kill Karan and they get the job wrong.  Abha's frustrations grow as she fails to find out about D M Shekhawat. Ranchod's resemblance to Karan startles Sushant who is not ready for the implications of his actions. Ranchod goes to find Karan and bring him home, but does not return when expected. Sushant is found dead, and Karan's whole family is suspected of his murder. Each tries to take the blame to save the rest. It is Abha's 'testimony' that lands her in jail, taking the fall for the family. Sushant's murderer is found. The golden mansion becomes a golden home again, as new members of the family arrive, and all misunderstandings are cleared.

Fire & Ice (Starts 22nd June)

This month Zee World brings back to your screens the captivating series, Fire & Ice, Fire & Ice is a romantic tale about a love triangle between a fierce young woman Twinkle, a possessive guy named Yuvraj and of course a wealthy man named Kunj. Twinkle is madly in love with Yuvraj, unfortunately their mothers share a bitter history that gets in the way of their love. The love birds device a plan to stay together. Conflicts between the two families wears heavy on them, until Kunj shows up of course. Twinkle finally gives in and marries Kunj but the shrewd Yuvraj cannot bear to see Twinkle in the arms of another man. Yuvraj decides to constantly disturb the peace between Twinkle and Kunj so that they separate. After a lot of attempts, Yuvraj finally gets Twinkle to have second thoughts about her marriage to Kunj.

Aditya is hiding a secret, Nisha is not the woman everyone thinks she is and cannot bring himself to telling his naïve family and breaking their hearts. Jhanvi is a single girl who joins Aditya’s family business. She attempts to bring light into his life, but is met with rude, unjust behavior from Aditya. Just as she grows tired of this, she learns the reasons for his gloomy outlook. She decides to keep bringing joy to his life, this inadvertently brings them closer together. Nisha puts her plan forward to take over the Jindal Empire and Aditya has to find a way to stop her. Jhanvi celebrates a new accomplishment in her life. Jhanvi has to deal with Aditya’s frustrations in the office and she makes a decision to try and put a smile on his face. Aditya is adamant to show everyone Nisha’s true colors. Suru faces some trouble leaving Jhanvi and her mom worried. Sameer assists Aditya with his plan to divorce Nisha. Aunt Sharda continues to sympathize with Nisha at the cost of her relationship with Aditya. The connection between Aditya and Jhanvi strengthens. It appears as though Chandresh’s health is deteriorating as Nisha uses him as a pawn in her scheme to stop Aditya in his tracks. In a panic, Chandresh puts his own life at risk. Jhanvi and Aditya form a friendship. Nisha sets Aditya up for failure as she places his character in a different light for the rest of the family to see. Jhanvi has big news for Aditya. A different perspective may have been all that Aditya needed as he finds new ways to stop Nisha dead in her tracks. Nisha throws around accusations about Jhanvi and Aditya’s relationship. Jhanvi makes a life-changing promise to her mother. Aunt Sharda begins to grow suspicious of Nisha and her ways. Nisha's devious ways have turned the tables on both Jhanvi and Aditya and Jhanvi has to prove her innocence. Uncle Dharmesh realises his mistake and makes a gesture to Jhanvi to help the family again. Nisha is at her wits end as she can’t handle the love that everyone has for Jhanvi. Nisha’s desperate attempts to get Jhanvi out of the Jindal household have gone too far.

Amba vows that she is pregnant with a son who will take over the chieftainship. The family matriarch promises to kill the child if it turns out to be a girl. Faced with two insurmountable threats, Amba, after giving birth to a girl, lies. She announces that she has given birth to a boy. Lying about a child’s gender is one thing, the challenge of keeping this lie up on a daily basis is quite another. She is faced with her mother-in-law’s impatience, her brother-in-law’s threats and her daughter’s frustration at having to grow up as a boy.  Amba, the wife of a village head, is pregnant. Her family hope that this time, she will give birth to the heir; a boy who will carry on ruling after his father. A battle against the two villages results in Amba becoming a widow. Amba mourns the death of his beloved husband. While fighting to keep his husband's legacy, Amba goes into labor. It is announced to the village that she has given birth to a boy. Jagan questions the gender of the baby and sets out to expose Amba in her actions. Amba is extremely nervous about the reveal of the leader, her secret will be out. Jagan is convinced that Amba’s brother is helping her to deceive the family. Mannu is presented to the village as the new head. Jagan and Raavi take extreme measures to get rid of Mannu. Jagan disagrees with the way Amba leads the village, her thoughtful ways do not match up to his sinister expectations. Jagan humiliates and rejects Swaroop in front of his family, he fails to fulfil the promises he made to her in private. Seven years have gone by and Mannu has grown up to live as a 7-year-old boy and it seems that Raavi and Jagan haven’t given up on their plans to get rid of her. Manu tries to compel Amba into sending her to school, but this could lead to their secret being exposed. . Amba stands before the village council to plead for her daughter to have access to further education. Jagan tries to get Manu kidnapped. After a close call, Amba has to remind Mannu that she cannot go to the school bathroom, for fear that she will be discovered. Deena challenges Amba and whoever wins the challenge gets full control of Manu’s upbringing. Deena makes a decision that even stuns Amba.

Mehek

This month on Mehek, Mehek's morals become a topic of discussion as people begin to question them publicly. Norah and Karan's relationship is officially on the rocks after the incident with Sanjana. He makes it his mission to tell her how he truly feels about her. Karan's explanation to Norah is falling on deaf ears as Norah is trying deal with the ordeal. Norah is hurt and upset when Karan suggests that they may be better off as just friends. Kanta is bent on keeping Shaurya away from Mehek, she will stop at nothing. Eddie and Khanna's business relationship is officially over after Khanna tried to blackmail Eddie. An unexpected gesture from Svetlana might help Eddie out of Khanna's blackmail. The Sharmas and the Khannas are on opposite ends as the love between Mehek and Shaurya strengthens. Svetlana makes an offer to Eddie that he can't refuse. The Sharmas are distraught by Kanta's recent activities to keep Mehek away from Shaurya. Norah is in trouble and Karan is feeling helpless because he cannot help. Norah's family is helpless at the news of Norah's kidnapping in India. Kanta gives Mehek and Shaurya her blessing and Eddie reaches out to Shaurya to help finding Norah's kidnappers. Dennis has the ransom money ready but things get worse when it is revealed that Eddie has reported Norah missing. Svetlana is allowed back into the Khanna mansion and Karuna's secret is realised by Shaurya's granny. The greed of an unsuspecting guest may destroy the Khanna household for good. Whilst Karan makes the connection between Ajay and Sanjana, Norah keeps on believing in Sanjana's innocence. Mehek and Shaurya get married. Leleti confronts Sanjana about her tricking the hospital staff to let her stay with Karan. An unbearable truth is revealed to Mehek. Ajay threatens to confess to everything if Svetlana doesn’t get him out of jail.

Rajveer joins forces with DD’s worst enermy to bring her down. DD's attitude towards Sid seems to be changing for the best. However, their joy is soon interrupted by a deal that goes wrong. DD is under the impression that Kesar and Resham are the ones responsible for the missing jewelry, and throws them out of the house as punishment. Sid finally finds out who has been behind the problems the family has been facing, will he reveal the truth to the family? Sid finds out that his parents bailed out Kritika after the accident she caused. Simran and Raj receive the news that Kritika is pregnant. Sid arrives at his sister’s wedding only to find out that his sister is getting married to Rajveer.  Simran buys the property DD mortgaged and throws everyone out. Sid is shattered when he realises that he might not live with Roshni anymore.

E.tv's Openview Drops 2 More Channels

OpenView has announced that it will be cancelling sports channel Trace Sports Stars as well as Afrikaans religious channel KruisKyk.

KruisKyk, which aired on channel 151, is being removed from the broadcaster’s catalog today, while Trace Sports Stars – which is found on channel 116 – will run until Tuesday 14 May.

“The decision to let go of both the KruisKyk and Trace Sports Stars channels from OpenView has been a challenging one,” said GM of group content services Ziyanda Mngomezulu.

OpenView said that since its inception in the South African market in 2013, it has invested extensively into the satellite platform and the bouquet strategies, which have been adapted and reshaped in response to market dynamics.

Newzroom Afrika Launches On DStv

The addition of Newzroom Afrika will add further news diversity to MultiChoice platforms

MultiChoice Group (MCG) is proud to announce that it will soon be adding Newzroom Afrika to its portfolio of news channels on 2nd May 2019. The channel founded by Thokozani Nkosi and Thabile Ngwato, will complement the existing local and international news channels currently available on DStv; joining the likes of CNN, BBC, Sky News, Al Jazeera, eNCA and SABC.

Newzroom Afrika will be live on DStv channel number 405 and will be available to DStv Premium, Compact Plus, Compact, Family, Access and EasyView customers. The channel will be simulcast (SD/HD) and available 24/7.

In addition to the traditional DStv linear platform, Newzroom Afrika will also be available via streaming on smartphone, tablet or desktop, through DStv Now.
