Ultimate Braai Master Season 7: Debuts On Netflix And Replaces Family Feud SA On e.tv This Month

The reality competition show Ultimate Braai Master was picked up for the seventh season on e.tv and streamed on Netflix SA earlier in the year.

Gqeberha, previously Port Elizabeth, paid R2 million to the production of the upcoming season of Ultimate Braai Master, with host Justin Bonello, for the series to film a self-contained season within the Nelson Mandela Bay municipality.

In previous seasons, Ultimate Braai Master, produced by Okuhle Media, would criss-cross South Africa in road trips for braai challenges at various scenic locations in the country.

However, with the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the only viable and practical possibility is to film a new season over six weeks that is geographically contained. This is similar to what Afrokaans did for M-Net with Survivor SA: Immunity Island in the Eastern Cape that will play out on the Wild Coast in June.

Besides Bonello, the chef-judges Peter Goffe-Wood and Benny Masekwameng will return to judge the braai challenges in which teams of two compete against each other to win R1 million.

The season, made up of 13 episodes, will again be shown on e.tv and, for the first time in Ultimate Braai Master history, on Netflix SA as well.

Season 7 airs Sundays at 18:00 on e.tv from 25 September replacing Family Feud SA and will also be available on Netflix SA.

The third one Perfect Husband (Perfect Pati), explores the non-idealistic married life of Vidhita and Pushkar and tries to question the thought that whether an ideal son is capable of being an ideal husband.

My Heart Knows and Perfect Husband airs 18 October while I Do will be shared by the channel.

eMedia Investments No Longer Have Broadcasting Rights To La Liga, Could This Be The End Of e.tv News & Sport?

Last year, eMedia Investments claimed that they secured rights to La Liga for the next 4 years now they're saying they no longer have the rights to La Liga.

Angry and upset customers were rallying around Openview with queries about La Liga only to be disappointed. The company didn't bother issuing a press release or respond honestly to these consumers.

Which kind of leads to the question what will become of News & Sport?

They started out as OpenNews offering a mix of local and international news only to chop most of the international news for sports content which led to the name change.

News & Sport has been dominating the viewership circuit and become one of the top 10 watched channels in South Africa that they even bagged rights to Impact Wrestling.

Following the launch of SABC Sport, eMedia Investments has diverted most of its attention towards that channel than they do News and Sport.

As months pass, SABC Sport seems to be the only one bringing in the viewers while News & Sport is heavily reliant on content from Impact Wrestling and reruns of e.tv News.

SABC's sports division recently signed a content distribution agreement with ESPN the same company that distributes NBA to News and Sport so they could just snatch that from them.

Also, SABC wants to launch a second sports channel aka SABC Sport 2 which is likely to follow the same format as ESPN's linear channels on DStv and StarSat. Not to mention, they were rumours a year ago that FreeSport UK would launch.

SABC Sport 2 or FreeSport could serve as a placeholder for News & Sport while news and Impact Wrestling is transmitted through eMedia Investments other channels either that or it becomes an Impact Wrestling channel infused with other content.

SPI International Launches A Digital Version Of Their Top Performing Turkish Channel, Dizi

Global media company SPI International unveils their new digital streaming service, Dizi, which will offer a selection of critically-acclaimed Turkish series as well as the best series, telenovelas and soap operas from all over the world depending on the demands of the local markets. Dubbed the Home Of Good Stories, Dizi combines the lean-back and lean-forward viewing experiences with a linear channel offer and a large selection of on-demand content.
.
“The launch of the Dizi streaming service signifies the evolution of the Dizi brand into a fully integrated service that combines linear and on-demand content propositions to bring the best series from Turkey and beyond to all available screens around the globe,” comments Berk Uziyel, CEO at SPI International. “As a part of SPI’s macro strategy, we offer good movies spanning all genres under one roof via FilmBox’s "Home of Good Movies". Now with our Dizi brand, we introduce the "Home of Good Stories", where in addition to some of the most sought-after Turkish series, viewers can expect to see top-quality series with powerful storylines from around the world in the future,” adds Uziyel.
.
The service’s global debut will take place this week at a NEM Dubrovnik event. In reference to the new product, SPI's Chief Marketing Officer Haymi Behar says: “The Dizi app builds on the success of the Timeless Dizi Channel and features around 400 hours of content from an inventory of critically-acclaimed series such as Black Money Love, Kurt Seyit & Shura and Insider with new episodes added monthly. The app will feature English, Polish and Spanish localized interfaces and 13 language options and more will be added in time. The Dizi service will both enable viewers to tune into the linear channel and watch episodes on-demand through their preferred devices at their leisure.”

Subscribers can access the service at www.dizi.com via web, download the mobile app that’s compatible with iOS and Android operating systems or stream their favorite content through the Smart TV app that’s available for Apple TV and soon-to-come for Android TV, Samsung and LG Smart TV devices. Dizi service also aims to integrate with many platforms and partner operators worldwide to provide their subscribers a seamless entertainment experience and the option to discover new series on demand.

For those who were upset with MultiChoice for terminating the channel and those who want to view the content in English. Good news the above fits your tastes.

7de Laan Switches Back To 5 Days A Week From October With Plans For A Reduction In Muvhango Scrapped

This comes after the SABC cut the popular soapie to three episodes a week earlier this year.

"7de Laan is delighted at the SABC's decision to bring back the show to 5 days a week," said the production.

The Afrikaans weekday soap 7de Laan on SABC2 is returning to a full 5-days a week while the Venda weekday soap Muvhango remains a full-week show, bringing to an end the SABC's failed experiment to cut down on the episodes for both series to try out other programmes in their timeslots.

From the week of Monday 4 October, 7de Laan is back to broadcasting five episodes per week on SABC2. The channel has not yet issued any statement about the soapies' return to full-week episodes.

"7de Laan is delighted at the SABC's decision to bring back the show to 5 days a week," the production confirmed to the media on Friday. "We know that our fans are over extremely appreciative and excited for this. We owe much of their persistent request to the return. Viewers can now enjoy an entire week of their favourite show without the long anxious wait. Best of all, the months ahead are packed with nail-biting, love-hate and comedic storylines."

Earlier this year, the South African public broadcaster angered viewers when it announced a shocking SABC2 schedule shake-up.

The SABC confirmed that it would cut back 7de Laan, produced by Danie Odendaal Productions, from five to just three episodes per week from April. The SABC also confirmed that it would be cutting back on Muvhango, produced by Word of Mouth Pictures, from August, with the popular primetime soap also seeing its episodes reduced from five to just three episodes per week.

It led to a petition signed by over 7 000 concerned viewers, and the SABC saying that it won't back down from its plan to "make more room for drama".

The SABC, in another statement shortly after that, said that "a public petition was circulated, in an attempt to prevent the SABC from diversifying its content on SABC2". This was, however, not what the petition from concerned viewers was actually about; viewers were not against diversifying programming, but concerned about losing weekday episodes of their shows.

Merlin Naicker, the SABC's head of TV, said that reducing the episodes of 7de Laan and Muvhango was "part of our long-term plan to invest in quality local content" and that "it is imperative that we come with innovative and exciting content, which will not only draw the viewership but bring in the revenue required to keep the public service broadcaster financially sustainable."

The SABC considers both long-running series as having somewhat run out of steam creatively and thought that gradual timeslot replacements would yield viewership bumps from new shows.

7de Laan was reduced to three episodes to make way for Die Sentrum, but the show from Penguin Films, which aired on Thursdays and Fridays, never got the viewership traction 7de Laan has, with lower ratings in SABC2's 18:00 timeslot.

Before the debut of Die Sentrum, the SABC, in a statement, said that it was "confident that this new programme will be a drawcard and, like 7de Laan, will keep the channel's loyal viewers entertained for the remainder of the week."

In July, 7de Laan lured around 1.2 million viewers to SABC2, while Die Sentrum hovered around 720 000 per episode. This is far below 7de Laan and represents a net loss of thousands of viewers in the timeslot and also forced SABC2 to lower ad rates during the slot, meaning less revenue for the broadcaster.

Meanwhile, the promised second season of the Xitsonga telenovela Giyani, produced by Tshedza Pictures, never materialised in Muvhango's 21:00-timeslot from August with no explanation to viewers or an update to the TV industry.

Neither the SABC nor SABC2 channel head Gerhard Pretorius made any further public statements before August that Giyani isn't going to start, or since, about why Giyani didn't start last month on Thursday and Friday nights, as initially promised.

According to insiders, the Covid-19 pandemic severely delayed Giyani production, and SABC2 couldn't get the show on air in time.

Covid-19 hugely impacted development and production on Giyani, and the production couldn't deliver episodes for playout from August as planned, although production is now in full swing. No new SABC2 broadcast date is available.

Could MultiChoice's Upcoming DStv Flex Package Replace The Premium And Compact+?

Over the years, MultiChoice has lost several Premium subscribers due to the ongoing increase in costs for the package as well as streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video offering cheaper services.

Sometime ago, MultiChoice mentioned they were planning to launch the Premium downfall package known as DStv Flex which is geared towards the mid to top tier consumers.

The timing for this package couldn't have come at a better time. As viewers noticed, a lot of international channels have been pulled off as their suppliers are taking back the content and adding it to onto their streaming services.

In the end, consumers are left with less options and no reason to stay on the platform.

MultiChoice has been working around the clock to keep these viewers connected through the launches of several local channels and M-Net's increased investment within the local industry.

No matter how successful their attempts have been when it comes down to costs viewers feel they're not getting enough which is where DStv Flex comes in.

DStv Flex charges less than the Premium package and has a smaller offering which consists mainly of Premium channels alongside other value added services such as a sports package and Add Movies.

Will this platform end DStv Premium?

Not necessarily, as cheap as it can be you have limited channels so Premium will remain on top. MultiChoice could however chop several channels and merge Compact+ with the Premium package.

With the help of DStv Catch-up, Add Movies, Explora Ultra, Insurance and the DStv app they'll recover from any losses contributed to this.
