New Series Alert: Never Late For Love Coming This May To Zee One

Zee One, a freemium based TV channel operated by Zee Entertainment Enterprises that distributes various content from India is set to rollout a new series Never Late For Love. Known as Tu Tevha Tashi in the Marathi language is a romcom for the oldies.

The plot revolves around two people in their forties who have experienced many ups and downs in their lives. Anamika Dixit and Saurabh Patwardhan were college classmates reconnect after a long separation and begin a new chapter in their lives.

It starred Swapnil Joshi as Saurabh Vishnupant Patwardhan, Shilpa Tulaskar as Anamika Dixit, Abhidnya Bhave as Pushpavalli Moropant Eadke, Swanand Ketkar as Neel Nana Jalgaonka and Suhas Joshi as Rama Joshi.

Never Late For Love debuted on Zee Marathi from 20 March 2022 to 26 March 2023 with 334 episodes produced each with a 22 minute duration. Through a poll on Etimes TV, 68% respondents praised the show while 32% disliked it.

The series will air daily at 6PM on Zee One from 3 May replacing Devoted Daughter once it comes to an end days prior. This is one of the few series to have launched in Africa with English audio as the latter such as We Mamezala and Onesipho is in Zulu on Zee Zonke.

Channel Closure: Comedy Central Family Will Stop Airing In Hungary On July 6th

Comedy Central Family is a general entertainment brand operated by Paramount Global and also a sister network to Comedy Central. It focused on humorous and family oriented shows such as See Dad Run, Mike & Molly, Young Sheldon and The Middle.

According to Hungarian website Media1, Comedy Central Family is set to end its run in Hungary from July 6th. This news comes after the channel had ceased operation in Poland and Dutch territories years prior making it the last feed to offer such brand. 

It is believed to be part of a strategic approach within Paramount Global as the closure was described as something beyond the pay-tv service's control. With further content from Comedy Central Family set to be integrated with Comedy Central. 

Consumption is said to have contributed to the decision to terminate Comedy Central Family similar to the likes of M-Net's Me and 1Magic on DStv. 

Earlier in the year, VH1 was shuttered in the remaining parts of Europe as the latter integrates with MTV and NickMusic. This was followed by a possible rebrand of the TeenNick channels to Nickelodeon Teen and an alignment of some MTV Base African feeds.

Development Alert: Atlantic Based Studio Primal Screen Will Close Its Doors By The End Of May

Primal Screen is an Atlantic based animation and graphic studio that specialized in designing of animation and other illustrations. It is well-known for designing logos and graphics for brands like HBO, Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon and PBS Kids. 

Not long ago, it was revealed through their LinkedIn account that they will close their doors after several of operation. Below is a statement:

Universal Kids which serves as the American counterpart of DreamWorks Channel and Sky is operated by NBCUniversal. Since it's launch, the channel has seen a decline in consumption and several content changes with its current lineup preschool tailored.

As seen in an programme guide, the Canadian based animated series Superbuns is slated to rollout on the channel from 28 April.

Based on the children's book of the same name, it follows a little bunny whose superpower is kindness does what she can to brighten everyone’s day. The series was made available to stream on Peacock sometime in 2023.

Mpumalanga gets a 1 hour block on 1KZN

Based in KwaZulu Natal, 1KZN TV is a proudly Zulu community television channel that produces its local content. Its aim is greater social inclusion of genders, castes, and ethnicities while encouraging greater education and improved health.

During the week, the channel debuted a 2 hour block with actress Sannah Mchunu gracing the red carpet. Although not much details had been shared about the content to be allocated on Mpumalanga TV beforehand to garner some exposure. 

It will air daily on 1KZN from 5pm to 6pm with repeats on weekends.

Arise News launches on DStv

Arise News is a London based television network that offers news and current affairs to audiences across the United States, Europe and Africa. It is operated by Arise Broadcasting Ltd., which is owned by Nigerian media mogul Nduka Obaigbena.

As some readers are aware, MultiChoice began tests on the channel a month ago leading to speculation over its possible expansion in more territories. Now it's listed on channel 416 so it's likely to go live by tomorrow from the DStv Access and up.

As primetime continues to rise on eExtra following the launches of Die Fakulteit and Sommerdahl Moorde. eExtra continues to hike the flow of repeats on the channel with the addition of Deur Dik En Dun on weekdays at 12:55 from 26 April.

A young Moses Shezi grew up with the gift of seeing into the future. When his gift leads to the death of his mother, he keeps silent about his gift. Now in his old age, Moses foresees his daughter Ntombi in danger. A series of visions show him four other strangers which he sets out to find in order to change the course of destiny.

Staylive To Distribute WBD Cycling And Motorcycling Content

Spring Media company, Staylive, was first founded in 2013, now delivering over 1,000 live sports events per week to audiences globally.

A selection of WBD Sports cycling and motorcycle sport events will be available on Staylive through pay-per-view and subscription packages in markets independent of exclusive WBD platforms and broadcast partnerships.

The cross-country cycling tournament UCI Mountain Bike World Series which kicked off the 2024 season last week in Brazil is the first sport event to stream on Staylive. Channel Closure: Pearl Magic Loko Will Stop Airing On DStv And GOtv By 30 April, To Be Replaced By Pearl Magic Reloaded

Not long ago, it was reported that M-Net and MultiChoice would be axing Africa Magic Urban on DStv by the end of April. This comes after Akwaaba Magic Abusua had folded under Akwaaba Magic with Pearl Magic Loko that is set to follow.

Pearl Magic Loko was a Ugandan based entertainment channel operated by M-Net that would offer content in Luganda. Similar to the likes of Zee Zonke, all the content was imported from other countries basically archived material from M-Net.

MultiChoice Uganda in a statement over the launch of Pearl Magic Loko:

“We are living out the business’s mission to be the best African storyteller – it’s not just a slogan for us, it’s a reality we bring to our treasured audiences. Ensuring that stories are told in local languages and allowing for a wider audience to enjoy the country’s favorite shows in their own tongue is key. That’s why the addition of Pearl Magic Loko is so important.”

Now the channel is burned off after a year on air by the end of April. Pearl Magic is planning to offer select content from Pearl Magic Loko under the banner Pearl Magic Reloaded weekdays at 14:00 to 16:00 from 1st May.

Pearl Magic Loko's demise forns part of a bigger conspiracy seen within DStv as several channels had already exited their platforms in under 4 months. This includes 1Magic, Me, People's Weather, B4U Movies, Ginx TV, Emmanuel TV and DW.

The roll out of Akwaaba Magic on DStv was the first step in MultiChoice quest to make authentic Ghanaian content accessible across the African continent. Since the channel was launched in 2021, this 24/7 entertainment flagship channel has been exclusive to DStv Compact, Compact Plus and Premium customers. 

Making this announcement, Managing Director of MultiChoice Ghana, Alex Okyere said: “we are excited that all customers on DStv can now watch hit shows like Inspector Bediako S2, Brenya, Play By Ear, Accra Stand Up, The Billionaire’s Wife and Nana Akoto amongst others from as little as Ghs80 per month. In the past three years, Akwaaba Magic has rekindled interest in Ghanaian content production and fulfilled our commitment to developing and upskilling the film ecosystem”.

He adds from the 1st of April, a section of our customers who hitherto did not have access to the diverse shows on Akwaaba Magic, will now be able to watch their beloved Ghanaian stars on our Ghs 80 per month pack”.

Head of the Akwaaba Magic Channel, Nosisa Doe explains that “this move is In line with MultiChoice’s commitment to offering more value to its customers and reinforces our strategic vision to be Africa’s most loved storyteller.” Customers can expect new Ghanaian shows, series and movies starting with the second season of Inspector Bediako every Monday evening on the channel. Furthermore, the Akwaaba Magic Abusua channel would be terminating on the 12th of April 2024 and all unfinished series would be moved to channel 150 on DStv.

Akwaaba Magic will continue to run never-before-seen premium local Ghanaian content 24/7 in English and content in diverse Ghanaian languages with subtitling in English.  The Akwaaba Magic channel will be available to subscribers on DStv Access and for GOtv customers on the Value packages on channel 102.

Channel Closure: Africa Magic Urban Will Stop Airing On DStv (And GOtv) By 30 April

Last month, it was reported WildEarth would be the 10th TV  exiting DStv by the end of April. This comes after the channel had been going through financial constraints and all of a sudden demanded carriage fees from MultiChoice.

This is also part of a bigger conspiracy seen within DStv as 9 channels had already exited their platforms in under 4 months. This includes 1Magic, Me, People's Weather, B4U Movies, Ginx TV, Emmanuel TV, DW, One Freestate Televisual and NWTV. 

With Africa Magic Urban that is set to be the 11th TV channel to exit DStv platforms across Africa. According to MultiChoice, they're consolidating their efforts as part of a strategic shift in order to deliver the highest quality entertainment that resonates with viewers. 

Similar to 1Magic and Me, MultiChoice is likely looking to cutback on content commissions for these channels in order to boost their streaming endeavors with Showmax. It was revamped in February to include a lineup of archived material from NBCUniversal.

Africa Magic Urban launched as Africa Magic Movies 1 in 2012 was a premium version to Africa Magic Epic and Family. Initially catered to local films expanded to include series most of which are now set to fold under Africa Magic Showcase and Family. 

If we had to be honest, there was not much variation with the content same with seasons. It was like how you'd view Moja Love and Moja 9.9. were instead of them gaining some independence same content launched elsewhere with variation being the package.

New Series Alert: Umakoti Oyintandokazi Coming This Month To Zee Zonke

Zee Zonke is a Zulu dubbed entertainment channel operated by Zee Entertainment Enterprises which is home to various Bollywood series from Zee Studios. Launching on DStv in August 2023, it serves as the popular addition to consumers. 

Not long ago, it was reported that Zee World a sister channel to Zee Zonke alongside Zee One would be debuting new content in the month. Now, Zee Zonke will be welcoming its first ever new series from Zee Telegu titled Umakoti Oyintandokazi (No.1 Kodalu).

The story revolves between two women, Vagdhevi and Saraswathi. Vagdhevi is a business entrepreneur, who is looking for an educated girl for her son Rahul. Saraswathi is an illiterate woman with a kind and good heart. After a series of consequences, Rahul marries Sarasu.

It starred Madhumitha H as Saraswath, Jai Dhanush as Rahul, Sudha Chandran as Vagdhevi, Anshu Reddy as Preethi, Suresh as Arun Babu and Kranthi as Teja.

Umakoti Oyintandokazi debuted on Zee Telegu from 9 December 2019 to 9 July 2022 with 735 episodes filmed each with a 22 minute duration. A remake known as Vidhya No. 1 was filmed for the Zee Tamil station from 27 December 2021 to 25 February 2024.

The series will daily at 21:00 on Zee Zonke from 23 April replacing Imfihlo.

New Series Alert: Love Through New Eyes Coming This Month To Zee World

During the past week, it was reported that Zee One would be debuting a Telegu led drama, A Lot Can Happen Over Coffee. Now it's being reported that Zee World will be rolling out a new Marathi based drama Love Through New Eyes (Yeu Kashi Tashi Me Nandayla).

The story revolves around a middle-class girl, Avani, who gets hired for a job in Mumbai. Her mother Nalu asks her to stay with her mother's childhood friend, Shaku, to reduce the time needed to reach her new workplace. During their visit, Sweetu is introduced to Shaku's son Omkar. 

It starred Anvita Phaltankar as Avani Vasant Salvi, Shalva Kinjawadekar as Onkar Khanvilkar, Kishori Ambiye as Shakuntala Khanvilkar, Aditi Sarangdhar as Malvika Khanvilkar and Milind Joshi as Mr. Khanvilkar.

Press Release: Disney Animation/Kugali Series "IWÁJÚ" Airs Across Africa On Disney Channel

Following the debut of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pan-African Entertainment Company Kugali’s “Iwájú” on Disney+, the original animated series premieres on Disney Channel (DStv Channel 303) across Africa this April and May.

 

“Iwájú” will premiere each weekday from Monday, 22 – 26 April at 17:00(CAT) / 16:00(WAT) with a marathon on Saturday, 27 April from 14:00(CAT) / 13:00(WAT). Special repeat broadcasts will run from Monday, 29 April – Saturday, 4 May with a marathon on Sunday, 5 May from 13:35 (CAT) / 12:35(WAT) and, on Africa Day, Saturday 25 May, viewers will be able to view another 6-episode marathon from 11:00 (CAT) / 10:00(WAT).

 

The premiere of the original animated series gives viewers across the continent an opportunity to view the series in territories where Disney+ is not available. Set in a futuristic Lagos, “Iwájú” tells the exciting coming-of-age story of Tola, a young girl from the wealthy island, and her best friend, Kole, a self-taught tech expert, as they discover the secrets and dangers hidden in their different worlds.

 

“Iwájú” is a first-of-its-kind collaboration with Pan-African entertainment company, Kugali Media. It’s written and directed by Olufikayo “Ziki” Adeola, with Hamid Ibrahim as production designer and Tolu Olowofoyeku as cultural consultant. 

 

Christina Chen from Disney Animation was the producer of the series, with Jennifer Lee (chief creative officer for Walt Disney Animation Studios) executive producing along with veteran Disney director Byron Howard (“Encanto,” “Zootopia,” “Tangled”). The screenplay is by Adeola and Halima Hudson from Disney Animation.

 

“We created ‘Iwájú’ as a love letter to Lagos, Nigeria, and an ode to the rich legacy of African storytelling,” said Writer and Director Olufikayo Ziki Adeola. “We’re proud to share this series and hope that it inspires more Africans across the world to share their stories and shape our collective narrative.”

Kugali Media’s president and “Iwájú” cultural consultant Olowofoyeku explains: “The origin of “Iwájú” is part of a phrase in the Yoruba language that is actually ‘Ojó iwájú,’ which means ‘the day ahead’ or the future. Many of our main characters in the series are Yoruba (one of the main ethnic groups in Nigeria).”

 

Ibrahim, Kugali Media CEO and “Iwájú” production designer, adds: “We wanted to imagine the future of Lagos, set roughly 100 years from now, where the mainland is designed to house as many people as possible in huge towers, and the island where the richest people live is made to look beautiful like an art piece.”

 

The series has garnered positive reviews globally with it being hailed as “an exciting new step for Walt Disney” by ScreenRant.com while ABC News in Australia describes the series as “both uniquely African, and yet universal in its appeal” and “beautiful to look at and the story draws you in”.

New Series Alert: Mzansi Magic Presents Ha Molefi, A New Drama About A Father And Son Overcoming Grief And More

This June, Mzansi Magic will premiere Ha Molefi, a drama about a father and son grieving the loss of a Mother and Wife, forcing them to deal directly with the complexities of their relationship.

Thabang Molefi (TJ Mokhuane) is a queer teenager from Pimville, Soweto, who has just lost his mother, Mam’ Linda, and is on a journey of healing and self-discovery. He lives with his father Ntate Molefi (Dingaan Khumalo/DSK) who is also grieving the loss of his wife, and together they set off on a journey of discovery that lays bare their fears and hopes while honoring Mam’Linda’s memory.

Thabang dreams of winning the all-round category at the annual Ballroom/Vogue Nights and he draws inspiration from his late mother, who was a musical sensation in the 90’s, and who always encouraged Thabang to live his truth and follow his dreams. 

Ntate Molefi, on the other hand, loves his son and has accepted him as he is. However, the recently widowed father has to learn that he must go beyond just loving his son but also make the effort to open up to him.

“Ha Molefi is an emotional story about a relationship between a grieving father and son, focusing on the raw and honest emotional turmoil that both face, especially concerning the son’s identity,” says Shirley Adonisi, Director of Local Entertainment Channels.
