10PM Will Never Be The Same Again As The Professionals Returns To e.tv

It's been 3 months since e.tv's viewers got much international shows from the channel as the brand boosts their local portfolio with the likes of The Black Door and Isono leaving 10pm as the only source for such content but as seen in the past months the quality has dropped.

I mean they've got decent programs in that slot at the moment L.A's Finest and The Blacklist but no one seems to care that much about them not even the channel as the content airs back to back and you're used to seeing fold one sheet over another but that's not the case.

Questions have risen over the fate of 10pm slot as there hasn't much variety in a while and after 6 months we finally got some confirmation from the channel.

Apparently, the 2020 action series Professionals which was the last international series at 8:30pm in April before local dramas took over will replace L.A's Finest from 11 July.

Through a briefing, eMedia had mentioned that they've scrapped shows like S.W.A.T., New Amsterdam and Seal Team. Is it possible that some of this content will just resurface on a limited basis or could the channel be seeking more short form series for the 10pm timeslot.

REDRAW YOUR WORLD IS COMING!!! As Cartoon Network Africa Bags Two New Family Movies

Redraw Your World has been taking the media by storm as you get to view a whole unexplored or in other terms abandoned, forgotten and advanced universe of Cartoon Network by that I mean content that doesn't cater to its current demographic such as preschool, girls and families.

For several months, that has been Cartoon Network in some territories as others such as EMEA are still building their portfolio with the likes of Totally Spies and Goat Girl titles which have yet to launch on the channel.

Of course, the new titles that have surfaced won't take a year to release just a month (August) and to my surprise it's Hotel Transylvania and The Angry Birds Movie that Warner Bros. Discovery handpicked for Cartoon Network.

Hotel Transylvania is a film trilogy that follows the life of Dracula and his daughter Mavis in a land crawling that once was crowded with monsters open their doors to humans. The channel might have picked up rights to the first 2 instalments as the second is listed.

Hotel Transylvania is rated FAMILY but the forgotten Disney Channel series which Cartoon Network should look into acquiring caters to GIRLS I mean throughout the year the channel has mostly featured boy skewed content and HS ain't boy exclusive.

The Angry Birds Movie based on the video game follows a bunch of birds who have to retrieve their eggs from a bunch of pigs before they get eaten. Just like Hotel Transylvania, the movie caters to family with an inclusion to boys like in the games.

Warner Bros. Discovery picked up rights to various Angry Birds shorts a couple years back for Boomerang. Could the rollout of The Angry Birds Movie be another signal to the demise of the channel as various Cartoon Network feeds are seen airing Boomerang content.

Rumour: End Of An Era, FOX Turkey Home To Shows Like Wings Of Love, Dokter Ali And Doodsondes On e.tv Will Cease Transmission In 2023

FOX had been discontinued in the African market for almost a year as it was part of the 100 international channels The Walt Disney Company plans to shutter for their streaming service, Disney+.

FOX was a general entertainment channel geared to audiences aged 18-49 serving up comedies like The Simpsons and Family Guy alongside other dramas like Resident, Deep State, Killing Eve and Grey's Anatomy but that wasn't the case in all regions.

In Turkey, the brand was the only international market to offer original content not that the shows above aren't original but they were sourced from the same outlet and there wasn't much differentiation between feeds as seen in this region.

Throughout FOX Turkey's run they were able to bring out original series part of which have been viewed on Timeless Dizi Channel and eExtra such as Yasak Elma (Doodsondes), Mucize Doctor (Dokter Ali), Bana Sevmeyi Anlat (Wings Of Love) and Bay Yaniliş (Mr. Wrong).

According to sources, FOX Turkey kind of like what's seen in the UK, Europe and Asia's former FOX channel it will fold under Disney+ but not all hope is lost as seen in Asia as the channel is said to be replaced with TGRT from February 2023.

TGRT was the previous name for FOX Turkey back when it was managed by Turkish conglomerate İhlas Holding and the idea of reverting it back to this could be The Walt Disney Company's way of separating their linear and streaming business.

But the idea of TGRT being phased out in the process doesn't seem far fetched as Latin America had FOX then Star only for it go off air after a year but Asia's replacements are still active so maybe there's a glimmer of hope and it's not like the content is changing or anything just the name.

Roundups #72: Nickelodeon To Be Phased Out In South Korea For Educational Channel, FOX Italy To Cease Transmission From July And NBC 3 To Rollout On The DStv Platform

More educational content for the little ones

Last month, it was reported that Nickelodeon would exit in more Asian markets by the end of June with several content folded under the streaming service, Paramount+.

As the brand prepped for its closure, the channel featured mainly local content like Hello Carbot, Jurassic Cop, Dr. Egg and Larva In New York possibly in an attempt to rollout the replacement Kizmom which won't carry any Nickelodeon content as future content goes to Paramount+.

It's been speculated that more brands from Paramount are expected to cease transmission mainly those with a localised feed.

Another one bites the dust

Last year, The Walt Disney Company halt various FOX brands across Europe as several content went onto the streaming service Disney+ as the brand plans to close 100 linear channels in the coming future as streaming becomes their top priority.

FOX in Italia was another victim to cord cutting as its last days saw the channel broadcast Boris a local drama which Disney+ will be rebooting soon air throughout the day while other regions actually tried to incorporate variety.

Star is a tile under Disney+ where viewers can view various FOX programs. Other available on Disney+ are Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and National Geographic.

NBC set to add third TV channel to the DStv platform

The Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) (Afrikaans: Namibiese Uitsaai-Korporasie, NUK) is the public broadcaster of Namibia. It was established in 1979, under the name South West African Broadcasting Corporation (SWABC).

The brand opened up one of their channels to several African regions as part of the WorldSkills Africa competition which featured various regions including Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Lesotho, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

The brand is set to launch NBC 3 on the DStv platform after the pay-tv platform was spotted testing NBC 3 a pay-tv channel home to dramas, telenovelas, sports and movies.

Viewers can sink their teeth into almost 30 hours of original programming and over 60 hours of enhanced content featuring captivating science and stunning visuals of the iconic apex predator. SHARKFEST not only shines a light on the science of sharks, giving audiences a better understanding of the ocean’s most misunderstood predator but also showcases their true beauty, power and mystery.

This year’s lineup offers a treasure trove of new original content that dives into details on over 15 different shark species and features footage from all over the world, including South Africa, the Galapagos Islands, Costa Rica, Australia, Hawaii, The Maldives, California, Massachusetts, Maine, Florida and more.
SHARKFEST is the must-sea shark event of the year and sheds light on one of the most fascinating creatures on the planet. What makes this year’s fin-tastic lineup so special and unlike any other is the devotion to factual science paired with the stunning visuals captured by some of the best ocean videographers in the business.

Disney+ viewers can enjoy hours of specially curated shark content from National Geographic on the platform, which includes Great Shark Chow Down, Secrets of the Bull Shark, What the Shark?, Sharkatraz, Journey to Shark Eden, Sharkcano, Sharks of the Bermuda Triangle and more.
National Geographic has also partnered with Minorities in Shark Sciences (MISS) to encourage diversity and inclusion in the shark sciences field and inspire the next generation of scientists. This collaboration lends MISS experts — such as Candace Fields, a Ph.D. student studying the population dynamics and geographic population structure of large predators; Carlee Jackson, marine biologist, sea turtle conservationist and shark expert; and Jasmin Graham, who specializes in elasmobranch ecology and evolution — as on-screen talent for this year’s SHARKFEST, as well as consultants for programming and development of shows.
The scientists and sharks have always been and continue to be the stars of SHARKFEST.

Our featured shark experts this year include the following:

Gibbs Kuguru, a Kenyan shark scientist who works with great whites and studies the DNA of sharks
Candace Fields, a Ph.D. student studying the population dynamics and geographic population structure of large predators
Carlee Jackson, a marine biologist, sea turtle conservationist and shark expert who is championing diversity in the world of science
Jasmin Graham specializes in elasmobranch ecology and evolution. She is the project coordinator for the MarSci-LACE project, which is focused on researching and promoting best practices to recruit, support and retain minority students in marine science
Alison Towner is a senior white shark biologist and Ph.D. student examining driving factors of movement in white sharks

Dr. Mike Heithaus, the executive dean of the College of Arts, Sciences & Education (CASE) and professor in the department of biological sciences at Florida International University (FIU)
Sara Casareto, a graduate student at Florida International University, working on her doctorate focusing on shark biology and behavior
Melissa Cristina Marquez, a Puerto Rican marine biologist and science communicator studying chondrichthyan fishes, such as great white sharks
Ryan Johnson, a marine biologist and world-famous documentary host

“Camo Sharks is an investigation on what shark skin does and how their melanin behaves. It’s two scientists crafting lofty ideas, making failures, and trying again. Many of the experiments you will see are done for the first time by us, so we had no idea how this was going to turn out, but that’s what makes it so riveting!” said Gibbs Kuguru. “Camo Sharks is just one of the many specials included in this year’s Sharkfest, all of which share fascinating insights about these remarkable creatures and why they need our protection,” he added.
This year’s SHARKFEST will make waves with something for everyone, from shark novices to shark enthusiasts. Highlights from this year’s SHARKFEST lineup include:

If there’s a tie between the hammerhead shark and the moon, there could be a tie with other shark species as well ... with a profound impact on both shark science and conservation.

SHARK QUEENS
Sunday 10 July at 18:45

A More Rational And Measured Road To Analogue Switch Off In SA

One of the core findings against the Minister of Communications by the Constitutional Court is that her imposition of an analogue switch-off date was unlawful and irrational.

EMedia Investments welcomed the ruling and had the following to say: “The matter of irrationality was probed and challenged at the Broadcasting Digital Migration Committee meetings, set up by the Department of Communications, and chaired by the Minister of Communications. eMedia Investments pleaded with the Minister of Communications on numerous occasions to listen to the logic and the rationality of the task at hand. We agreed that the switch-off must happen to enable digital migration, but insisted that it must be in a practical, logical, and fair manner – ensuring that there are no negative consequences to any households, or the Free To Air TV industry.”

Khalik Sherrif, CEO of eMedia Investments, went on to say: “EMedia Investments acknowledges and accepts that the analogue transmitters which affect SA’s progress, and impacts on the already auctioned spectrum for the telcos, must be vacated as soon as possible. eMedia has provided a well researched proposal on how the migration could be done and how the spectrum affecting the telcos could be vacated almost immediately, subject to minimal approvals from Icasa (who have acknowledged and received eMedia’s application for approvals months ago), and which will allow the telcos to get on with the use of the spectrum. The proposal was not taken seriously and there was no alternative but to approach the court.”

Sherrif said that for the sake of Free To Air television and the millions of people that would have been affected by a ‘hard switch-off’: “We are pleased that the Constitutional Court heard our plea. We were never against the analogue switch-off. We believe that a planned strategy for digital migration will have many benefits for all South Africans. We are looking forward to working with the minister and her department to agree on a meaningful and measured approach to systematically implement the migration without delay, not only to allow the viewing public sufficient time to switch over to a digital solution for TV viewing, but also for the telcos to use the spectrum allocated to them for the benefit of the country, as earmarked by the President in his SONA of 2021”

Nickelodeon To Cease Operation In South Korea

Paramount and AMC International have begun reviewing their linear offering and with the ongoing rollout of Paramount+. The CBS channels currently seen across Europe are phasing out CBS brand with CBS Reality said to remain as they're likely working on a name.

Paramount Network has even seen a decline internationally as most Paramount wents to seperate the linear from the streaming which resulted in several closures or replacements for the brand.

During the week, it was also reported that more Asian viewers will lose Nickelodeon by the end of June following its closure in Japan earlier in the year with several shows like Paw Patrol, SpongeBob SquarePants, The Loud House and Danger Force streaming on Paramount+.

Nickelodeon had been available to the market for nearly 17 years as part of a joint venture with SBS Medianet and Paramount Networks EMEA. The demise of Nickelodeon means viewers lost out on another major kids brand following Disney Channel's closure last year.

As mentioned, Paramount will be rolling out their streaming service in more regions and although they don't plan to halt all their linear offering just yet. There has been cutbacks part of which include several localised feeds or channels with too much old content.

AMC International Giving Their Channels Weird Names Ahead Of Paramount+ Launch In Africa By 2023

Paramount+ is a streaming service owned by the company of the same name (without +) that is home to brands like Paramount Network, CBS (CBS Drama, CBS Justice and Horror Channel), Showtime, Comedy Central, MTV, BET, The Smithsonian Channel, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.

As some consumers are aware Paramount will be rolling out their streaming service by 2023 in the Middle East and Africa and question loomed in regard to the linear offering across the world.

Although the company had no intentions of ending their linear operations that doesn't exclude the possible reduction or restructure to their portfolio as seen in the UK with their CBS channels this past week.

AMC International formed a joint venture with the company for CBS Reality, CBS Justice, CBS Drama and Horror Channel since 2012 under the brand Chellomedia and even before and after becoming majority stakeholder the channels had a share of repeats.

After nearly a decade, the CBS channels would be laid to rest by the end of June as Paramount is scrapping the CBS branding since they'll be present on Paramount+ kind of like what they did with the Paramount Network and in doing so comes the new names.

Update: CBS Reality will remain the same for now but there's more to the story as there's a channel that goes by the name Reality in the UK. In other developments, CBS Reality will be getting an additional channel Reality Xtra.

Other channels like CBS Justice discontinued and merged onto Legend which serves as a replacement to Horror Channel which in turn becomes a part time channel Horror Xtra with the current CBS Reality getting a sister channel Reality Xtra.

If you've watched MTV, Travel Channel and TLC then you'll be able to realise that the brand names don't match with the offering and that's the case with these new channels.

Apparently, the content in question on these channels will remain the same Reality Xtra will air drama series although the name appears to make it a reruns or edgier version of CBS Reality and imagine they're instilling crime on horror.

Judging by the info available at the moment, its clear that these changes could have been last minute or organised in a short duration.

Taking that to account, is it possible another restructure is on the cards and perhaps with alternate names I mean Poland has the AMC brand and if not another name perhaps aligning the content with the brand names.

Last resort would include cord cutting as these channels are very much outdated even onto the new brands and the idea of AMC and Paramount operating less channels at this point doesn't seem far fetched.

If there's a brand I'd have to praise for its uniqueness then its CBS Reality I get this feed doesn't supply original content but the way this channel incorporates less repeats is astounding. Even more interesting is how their former brand name Reality (E)Xtra was revived.

Da Vinci Kids Rebranded Last Year That's Why The Channel Has Been Loading Up On Fresh Content

A new kids’ content initiative rolled out in Asia, delivering learning in multiple formats and promising a positive, safe and ad-free environment for children across the region.

The move is part of a global expansion strategy, follows the consolidation of global educational assets – Da Vinci Media’s Da Vinci Kids and Azoomee – under newly formed holding company, Macademia.

Additional acquisitions are being planned in the continued drive to consolidate the EdTech and edutainment kids’ segments, says Macademia’s co-founder and chief operating officer, Estelle Lloyd.

Lloyd says the company’s mission is to “help parents raise exceptional humans”.

Macademia is best known for its selection of STEAM (Science, Tech, Engineering, Art & Math) programming, including award-winning TV shows, documentaries and educational games for kids 4 to 12.

“Our mission is to unlock children’s full potential by igniting a passion for discovery and imagination through inspiring videos and games,” Lloyd adds.

A core part of the ambitious new plan, the latest iteration of Da Vinci Kids includes a completely revamped mobile streaming app, a library of educational games, as well as an upsized linear channel. Da Vinci Kids targets 6+ year olds and adults.

Sister platform, Azoomee, targeting kids below six years old, debuted in Asia. Globally, Azoomee is available in 125 countries through its partnership with Huawei, which bundles a one-year pre-paid Azoomee subscription with Huawei tablets.

Expanding Da Vinci Kids’ content has been a key focus of the new strategic direction, Lloyd says, adding that topics range from science, technology and nature to history and arts, among others.

Recent video series acquired included "The Fixies", "Darwin & Newts" and "A Week to Beat the World", which is exclusive to Da Vinci Kids. These join titles such as "Operation Ouch", "Science Max", "Pin Code" and "Matilda and the Ramsay Bunch".

“Our goal is to provide a variety in content mix and an alternative to the pure entertainment and ratings-driven channels that occupy the vast majority of the kids and documentaries channel landscape,” Lloyd adds.

Linear remains a crucial part of the bundle.

“Da Vinci Kids delivers a content curation strategy focused on range, diversity and quality. We are providing a meaningful viewing experience to kids and families, which we know is very important to parents,” Lloyd says.

Between them, Da Vinci Kids and Azoomee are distributed to a global audience of 60m kids and families on 550+ pay-TV and streaming platforms, telcos and OEMs. In addition to Huawei, partners include Vodafone, Telefonica/O2, MultiChoice, Apple, Sky, Roku and Amazon.

Moving forward, Macademia plans to ramp up its investment in original productions and games, building upon segments such as Marvelous Makes (arts and crafts), Search It Up (digital literacy) and Tech Will Save Us (technology).

“As much as we want children to have fun, to be carefree and happy, we also want them to develop into curious and critical thinking people, to open their minds to new ideas,” Lloyd says, adding: “We are going to be there for them.”
