Paramount+ Launches Live TV Channels And Boomerang Africa's Demise Has Seemingly Been Confirmed

Paramount+ got a lot on their hands

As viewers in South Africa and the rest of Africa await the launch Paramount+, the President and Chief Executive Officer at ViacomCBS Streaming, Tom Ryan, revealed the reason behind the creation of Paramount+’s Live Channels and how it can impact viewers:

“Even in the era of on-demand, there is clearly a strong consumer appetite for reimagined linear channels that provide effortless, lean-back entertainment. Inspired and informed by the winning model Pluto TV pioneered and popularized, these highly curated channels underscore the power of our unified streaming organization and serve as a product differentiator in the SVOD space, by offering subscribers yet another way to experience and discover programming on Paramount+.”

Paramount+ is available 24/7 to subscribers and is supported on the Paramount+ app. It will also see the addition of new channels, including one dedicated to movies and another one that will play RuPaul’s Drag Race all day long – both of which will become available later this month.

The channels range from 24/7 Laughs, Adult Animation, All Day Drama, Animation Favorites, Black Voices, Crime & Justice, History & Undiscovered, Kids & Family Fun, Nostalgic Hits, PAW Patrol, Preschool Corner, Reality TV: Competition & Shores, SpongeBob Universe, Star Trek, Survivor, The Challenge and TV Classics.

Cartoonito is coming...just not today

A month ago, WarnerMedia EMEA picked up rights to Spookies for the long awaited streaming service HBO Max and the upcoming linear station Cartoonito. This only confirmed the brand's return within that region.

Earlier this month, Boomerang was folded under Cartoonito in Latin America with some parts of Africa through Canal+ expected to undergo the same procedure and that wasn't the case for now (might surface 22 December).

As seen in a recent advertisement Boomerang is present in their latest channel list and not Cartoonito.

Is it possible that the "upcoming linear station" is actually a replacement channel?

Judging by the facts, it's possible as WarnerMedia is growing Cartoon Network's family offering. Most people consider Cartoonito another Nick Jr. but that's not the case here.

Cartoonito is Boomerang Lite which makes up 80% if not more of Boomerang. Kind of like how the lite versions of Facebook, Instagram and Twitter operate will be the same for Cartoonito.
