Tellytrack Will Stop Airing On DStv By The End Of February And Will Fold Under The Newly Launched Horseracing Channel, Gallop TV

KwaZulu-Natal horse racing and totalisator operator Gold Circle and sports betting giant Hollywoodbets have announced the launch of Gallop TV, which aims to bring South Africans all the latest horse racing action from KwaZulu-Natal and from the global arena of international horse racing.

The exciting new high-definition sports broadcast channel will offer live racing, betting odds, race results, dividends, interviews, podcasts and play-on demand previews, which will collectively highlight all aspects of the horse racing industry.

“To sustain the sport of horse racing in KZN, it is essential to grow our fan base by ensuring we satisfy our current customers in the betting shops along with offering our product free-to-air via live streaming and satellite to our existing customers, whilst at the same time creating a potentially new market of home viewers. Hollywoodbets has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustaining horse racing in our province by partnering with Gold Circle in this initiative. Without their support, this project would not have been possible,” said Gold Circle CEO, Michel Nairac.

“Hollywoodbets is thrilled to be partnering with Gold Circle on the launch of the Gallop TV production and an exciting new website. We have developed a strong bond with the Gold Circle team and look forward to the success of this project, which we hope will facilitate the objective of bringing more South Africans closer to horse racing,” said Dermot O’Connell, Hollywoodbets Betting Operations Manager.

For the month of February, Tellytrack will remain on DSTV channel 249. However, the Tellytrack live stream on www.tellytrack.com will cease on 31 January. All viewers will be able to watch the live stream of Tellytrack on the Gallop TV website (www.galloptv.co.za) from Tuesday 1 February by registering on the site. There are no monthly subscriptions required.

Further communication regarding the options to view KZN Horseracing via satellite from 1 March, as well as feedback on the ongoing negotiations with 4Racing will be released shortly.

Racing240 launched as a replacement channel and Gallop TV is a digital service with no monthly fees. Further content on Tellytrack will be on this new service and Racing240 will likely serve as a distributor.

Supa TV And Tellytrack Might Have More Competition As MultiChoice Is Part Owner Of BetKing

MultiChoice expanded its repertoire with an agreement to buy a 20% stake in Africa-focused sports-betting platform BetKing for as much as 1.8 billion rand, giving it access to a sector that’s emerged as a winner from lockdown restrictions that have encouraged homebound entertainment.

“Sports betting is an interesting market that is aligned to our Pay-TV business,” said Mawela. “We have a lot of sport on our platform, and many people that are betting watch more games.” he said. DSTV packages include live English soccer, while MultiChoice agreed to a deal with Walt Disney Co. earlier this year to add two ESPN channels showing U.S. pursuits such as basketball.

BetKing started in Nigeria and has shown rapid growth over the past two and a half years, according to the CEO. “They plan to be pan-African and will be entering South Africa at some stage too,” he said.

And, The Show Goes On - Tellytrack Continues To 'Run' On All DStv Platforms

For over 15-years, DStv has been the ‘race track’ of choice for many horse racing lovers across the country, through the broadcast of the Tellytrack channel. This almost two-decades long partnership, between Tellytrack and Multichoice, will continue to run on DStv channel 239 enabling viewers to experience the ‘Sport of Kings’ in the comfort of their homes.

‘’Over the years we have seen consistency in the channel’s viewership ratings, indicating that the South African television market has an appetite for the sport,” explains Rob Scott – Sports Betting Executive for Phumelela Gaming. “As such from a business perspective, extending the contract became key, as the partnership continues to provide extended reach of the sport.”

The channel will see a ‘look and feel’ as well as content facelift – launching new content propositions as well as injecting a more lifestyle feel into the programming. “We will be introducing an hour-long daily Morning Show, that will carry 30 minutes of horseracing content and 30 minutes of other sports. Our objective is to provide our viewers with variety through the morning show but through our other offerings, become a channel that features predominantly local horseracing,” says Scott.

Currently the channel, on DStv 239, is available across five packages with the lowest – Access – costing only R105 per month and adds to the variety of sport available on our platform. “The Tellytrack channel forms part of our platform’s strategy to bring great quality and diverse content to SA audiences,” explains Aletta Alberts – Head of Content Strategy for Multichoice. “Through our content we celebrate our diverse audiences’ interests, and this can be demonstrated in the number of channel offerings available on our packages. The Tellytrack channel allows us to continue to meet this mandate – of continuously serving our viewers with content that is relevant and excites them.”

The revamped channel will go live on 4 May 2019.
