Channel Roundups For 2022 On Openview And DStv Including Pop-Up Channels

Openview:

Last year, SABC failed to fill their end of the bargain with eMedia Investments when they promised to unveil the other two channels coming to the Openview platform.

SABC Education and SABC News are obviously not part of this deal as one would have joined the 19 radio stations and SABC Sport while the other is managed by MultiChoice.

SABC has registered 3 new channels from their DTT plans of which 2 will are likely for Openview:

SABC Encore - a repeats channel catering towards viewers who grew out of SABC 1-3.

SABC Children - a multilingual children's channel targeting children aged 2-12 years.

SABC Parliament - a channel that deals with politics and other issues in the country.

Possible terminations include France24, News and Sport, DBE TV or Mindset and Star Life.

MultiChoice:

MultiChoice has hit a dry spell in the international offering so they shifted focus towards local content. Last year saw the launches of HONEY and Maisha Magic Movies. This year welcomes the following:

Maningue Magic - a Mozambican version of Mzansi Magic with original content likely in Portuguese ranging from movies to series and reality shows.

Kwenda Magic - an Angolan entertainment channel featuring comedy shows and dubbed telenovelas. It might replace the long forgotten Jango Magic.

Pop-up channels - Big Brother Mzansi (23 January), M-Net Movies Man Of Action (21 January - 6 February 2022), Big Brother Naija, Housemates Liberia, Idols SA, Afrocinema (rumoured) and if possible Ultimate Love.

Kids channels open to Access, Family and Compact customers. 27 December to 9 January.

Other possible additions include an Untitled Discovery Channel, AYVTV, Maisha Magic Plus, One Zed TV, G4, Cartoonito, Zee One, Untitled entertainment and kids channel, tvN and Dizi. Possible terminations include Lifetime, Discovery Family, Boomerang, Travel Channel and Star Life.
