Press Release: Netflix Announces Live Action Scooby-Doo Series

The eight-episode show goes back to the haunting case that started it all.

Half a century, three theatrical films, and more than a dozen animated series later, Scooby-Doo remains one of pop culture’s most recognizable and entertaining characters. But few people know about how the cowardly dog and his mystery-solving gang first got together. In a new series, showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg (and their production company, Midnight Radio) are going back to the beginning, to the terrifying case that started it all.

Based on the characters from Hanna-Barbera, the latest show is a modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog. During their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever-so-handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.

The series will be executive produced by Rosenberg and Appelbaum, as well as Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman (via Berlanti Productions), and AndrĂ© Nemec and Jeff Pinkner (via Midnight Radio). “One of my first and favorite jobs in Hollywood was sitting with Bill Hanna and Joe Barbera while they signed animation cels,” says Greg Berlanti. “Josh and Scott and everyone at Midnight Radio have crafted a story that captures their amazing spirits and their genius creation. We are grateful to them and everyone at Warner and Netflix for the partnership in helping bring this iteration of Scooby-Doo to life!”

This isn’t the first time a beloved franchise has made its live-action debut on Netflix. Netflix has continued the world-building of beloved franchises with live-action adaptations of ONE PIECE and Avatar: The Last Airbender, as well as fan-favorite characters like Wednesday. “Mystery Inc. is back in business! We’re excited to bring Scooby-Doo to TV as a live-action series for the first time,” said Peter Friedlander, vice president of scripted series at Netflix. “The beloved franchise has had an impact on pop culture that is undeniable — it’s rich with universal themes of friendship that generations of fans have long embraced. Together with creative powerhouses Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio, we’re committed to delighting longtime fans and opening up a world of groovy adventures for a new era of meddling kids.”

The show is a result of Berlanti Productions’ overall deal with Warner Bros. Television. Clancy Collins White, president of creative affairs at Warner Bros. Television, added, “We’re thrilled to collaborate with our longstanding partners at Berlanti Productions and with Midnight Radio to bring the legendary Scooby-Doo franchise to a live-action series for the first time. It’s no mystery why audiences continue to love these iconic characters after more than a half century. We’re excited for a new generation to discover Mystery Inc. And we’re grateful to our partners at Netflix for the opportunity.”

Warner Bros. Discovery Was Rumoured To Be Selling Off The Looney Tunes, Could This Affect Cartoon Network?

According to a report on ComingSoon.net, Warner Bros. Discovery is looking to sell Looney Tunes, one of its oldest IPs as the company looks to prioritise family and adult programming moving forward. In light of this, Warner Bros. Discovery has remained hush hush on the matter.

But it should be worth noting, Cartoon Network had cancelled Tiny Toons Looniversity and Bugs Bunny Builders after two seasons. It was mentioned that corporate had sold rights to their latest animated film The Day The Earth Blew Up to Ketch Up Entertainment with them looking to scoop up the scrapped Coyote Vs. ACME in 2026.

The reasons Warner Bros. Discovery was said to be doing this as mentioned on ComingSoon.net - possible sale. But several outlets had since opted to rebuff that claim as Looney Tunes is basically Warner's Mickey Mouse then again it had been alleged that it's struggling to garner traction with modern audiences.

To top it off, Warner Bros. Discovery doesn't seem interested in animated content nowadays as a library of shows from Cartoon Network had since moved from Max to rival platforms. All of this has kind of lead some to wonder if Warner Bros. Discovery could look to be offloading more content aside from Looney Tunes.

Warner Bros. Discovery will be moving most of their cable networks to a new division Global Linear Business placing them in a position to be potentially sold off to either Comcast's SpinCo or Paramount.

Let's remember, Warner Bros. Discovery was in talks with Paramount Global for a potential merger some years back before the deal fell flat. If Warner Bros. Discovery was looking to offload most of their animated content aka "the problem child" nothing would have gotten in their way of merging with Paramount.

Comcast's SpinCo is reportedly looking to venture into food and history and Warner Bros. Discovery has plenty of assets that align with that structure. It could as well lead to sale of Food Network and Investigation Discovery if not them obtaining a ownership stake of 40% to 51%.

Entertainment Upgraded!!! MultiChoice Extends Comedy Central To DStv Family With Nicktoons To DStv Access

South African DStv subscribers will have access to a whole lot more fun and laughter following the addition of NickToons to the satellite service’s Access package and Comedy Central Africa to the Family package, effective from 1 April 2025.

This development means existing subscribers will now be able to watch the fan favourite premium programming exclusive to these two Paramount Africa channels without having to upgrade their DStv packages.

Says Monde Twala, Senior Vice President & GM Paramount Africa & Lead BET International; “We are delighted to expand the reach of Comedy Central Africa and NickToons to more South Africans. Comedy Central delivers non-stop laughs as the continent’s only around-the-clock comedy destination, while NickToons serves up perennial family entertainment favourites while constantly adding fresh, new content with local flavour to its roster. This expansion underscores our commitment to providing inclusive world class entertainment for all.”

The move of NickToons (channel 308) – Nickelodeon’s go-to channel for the best cartoons with maximum local flavour – to DStv Access means that a broader group of kids will have access to the groundbreaking Nick In Your Language initiative. Always animated, always funny, the channel will premiere a new season of The Patrick Star Show (from 31 March, weekdays at 16:30), and new episodes of PAW Patrol (starting in June) in isiZulu and Afrikaans, in addition to the original English.

Don’t be surprised to see the little ones up on their feet, singing, moving and vibing to NickMusic (weekdays at 09:00), a lively music variety show counting down the world’s coolest tunes mixed with interactive games and activities. Also available will be brand-new episodes of all-time fan-favourite SpongeBob SquarePants.

SpongeBob fans can come and meet their favourite pineapple-dwelling TV character at the Joburg Zoo this Easter break, from 18 to 21 April 2025, when he makes a guest appearance during the Nickelodeon Easter Extravaganza with fun activities for the whole family to enjoy.

DStv Family subscribers will enjoy full access to a bumper offering from Comedy Central Africa (channel 122) from 1 April 2025. Nostalgia junkies can dive into beloved classic programming such as The Neighbourhood, Everybody Hates Chris and King of Queens, while the long-running South Park continues to shatter records (and funny bones) with its subversive animated humour and The Daily Show dishes up hilarious hot takes on the news of the day.

Plus, subscribers can look forward to the annual Comics’ Choice Comedy Awards in May, celebrating the continent’s most side-splitting comedians and their outrageous one-liners.

Over the course of each ep, she imagines fantastical animal characters that embark on extraordinary adventures to magical destinations such as the marshmallow mines and the trumpet tree forest.

Mushables are the ‘Guardians of the Forest’, and each member has a special talent or ability – while Mush-Mush can communicate with nature, Chep has a huge memory and Lilit lights up and glows – all of this in theory at least, as they all still have a lot to learn! Mush-Mush and the Mushables is a journey of self-discovery from a child’s point of view, through exciting adventure, comedy and mush mush more!

Created by Flemish artist Elfriede de Rooster, Mush-Mush and the Mushables is produced by Perrine Gauthier and directed by Joeri Christiaen (My Knight and Me).

Synopsis for Cooking Buddies

The show is based on Buddy Oliver‘s cooking channel — also called Cooking Buddies — which has amassed over seven million views, prompting Sarah Muller, Senior Head of Children’s Commissioning 7+ at BBC Children’s and Education, to order a ten-part series for television. The executive producer for the Jamie Oliver Group is Samantha Beddoes.

Cooking Buddies is billed as a “fun cooking show with a twist,” in which kids join Buddy as he teaches them how to cook simple meals for someone or an important occasion. In a skill-swap, his guests teach him a skill they are passionate about, from basketball to street art, football, karate, ice skating, boxing, BMX’ing, hip hop, salsa and more.

Skemertyd: How e.tv Plans To Replace Isiphetho And 18:30 Going Forward?

As some viewers already heard, e.tv will be axing the underperforming soap Isiphetho and calling it quits for the 18:30 timeslot. Home to former soaps like Isipho: The Gift, Broken Vows and Nikiwe, this was the underachiever of primetime and now e.tv will be moving Kelders Van Gehieme to this timeslot.

This also affects the channel's other Kuiertyd protege Gelukbringers and Annekan Die Swa Kry which will now air 30 minutes later at 16:30 and 17:30 respectively under the banner Skemertyd.

Skemer is Afrikaans for dawn or twilight and tyd is most definitely a suffix they borrowed from eExtra's Kuiertyd meaning time.

If you're like a few other viewers that can guess what Skemertyd is all about this is their answer to hundreds or thousands demanding answers on the follow-up to Isiphetho. This is eMedia Investments way of saying they're done with this timeslot or at least for shows like Isiphetho.

Viewers wishing to find similar content can tune into House Of Zwide, Smokes & Mirrors and Isitha: The Enemy between the 19:00 to 22:00 timeslots. To make it worse, they've brought back Gold Diggers meaning more repeats and still no answers on how shows like uMbali will be distributed on their platforms.

As for 18:30, that's Kuiertyd/Skemertyd's turf cause let's face it eMedia Investments won't be losing much in terms of viewers now that the latter airs 30 minutes later. Nikiwe and so forth despite being low rated had more viewers than any of the dubbed shows to have aired on the channel.

If Skeem Saam still had its 18:30 on SABC 1, Kelders Van Gehieme wouldn't even be considered competition as they cater for a different audience so basically e.tv got its cards right. But why use Skemertyd instead of Kuiertyd(+) especially now that Annekan Die Swa Kry and Kelders Van Gehieme are broadcast simultaneously with eExtra.

Kuiertyd Moves 30 Minutes Later As Isiphetho Bites The Dust

Last year, it was confirmed by the free-to-air broadcaster that Isiphetho would be getting the boot on the channel following its dismal rollout on the channel. It will not be replaced with another series instead e.tv will be moving Kelders Van Gehieme and a bunch of its other Afrikaans shows to a later timeslot to occupy Isiphetho.

Rebroadcasts of Gelukbringers will broadcast on e.tv at 16:30 followed by simultaneous broadcasts with eExtra of new episodes of Annekan Die Swa Kry at 17:30 and Kelders Van Gehieme at 18:30. Thereafter new episodes of Gelukbringers airs at 19:00 followed by Doodsondes at 20:00, Op Dun Ys at 21:00 and Vierspel Vuurspel at 22:00.

If one had to guess, eMedia Investments is likely trying to rid themselves of 18:30 and prioritising 19:00 and 21:00 home to shows like House Of Zwide and Smokes & Mirrors. Previous entrants such as Nikiwe and Durban Gen struggled to garner much buzz due to existing competition from SABC 1.

Kelders Van Gehieme's move to 18:30 likely stemmed from several theories one of which less competition as the only other competitor KykNet is on DStv. Another is viewership, eMedia Investments probably feels the move will lead to increased viewership especially now that Skeem Saam has reverted to a much later timeslot.

These changes are set to take effect on 7th April 2025.

Major Restructuring Coming Soon

Last year, Google squeezed thousands of websites out of their search algorithms leaving them to go out of business if not scale back on content. As mentioned, we were one of those affected sites as we watch our traffic plummet in top tier countries and shift toward smaller tier markets.

Trust me when I say the struggle is devastating as a publisher to started out in the mid 2010s having all your recent content garner little noticeability while those you ranked on get snatched. It's one of the reasons I'm writing this announcements to all our faithful readers.

As we mentioned, there's other platforms (like YouTube) where our content continues to garner scale so we'll be moving some content. The remainder will still be distributed on the site but overtime it could garner scale elsewhere leading us to redirect them those platforms.

To keep everyone in the loop, we'll be attaching links across the site to the platforms we're engaging in.

Power Rangers TV Series In Development For Disney+

“Percy Jackson and the Olympians” showrunners Jonathan E. Steinberg and Dan Shotz are in talks to write, showrun and produce a live-action “Power Rangers” series for Disney+ and 20th Century TV, TheWrap has exclusively learned.

Hasbro will produce the series, which will reinvent the franchise for a whole new generation of fans while delighting those who already know and love the world of Power Rangers.

The ’90s TV show, originally called “The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers,” was inspired by a Japanese children’s show, “Super Sentai” (even using footage from that show). It featured five teenagers who gain the ability to “morph” into superheroes known as the Power Rangers, complete with their own mech fighters. A film version of the series that starred most of the original cast was released in 1995, with a second one in 1997 (this one featured only a few original cast members).

The series has had many different iterations throughout the past 25 years.

Lionsgate and Saban Film attempted to reboot the original “Power Rangers” franchise in 2017 as a gritty, YA adaptation. The film grossed only $142 million on a budget of around $100 million, scrapping hopes for a bigger franchise.

Hasbro then acquired Power Rangers in 2018 in a deal designed to capitalize on the franchise’s full potential across all of the company’s divisions.

The development of “Power Rangers” is part of Hasbro Entertainment’s ongoing strategy to elevate storytelling and produce series based on Hasbro’s most iconic brands alongside the industry’s best talent, studios and distribution platforms. Beyond “Power Rangers,” Hasbro Entertainment’s active projects include a re-imagining of “Clue” across film and television with Sony’s TriStar Pictures and Sony Pictures Television; a live-action “Dungeons & Dragons” series “Forgotten Realms,” currently in development at Netflix with Academy Award nominee Shawn Levy executive producing; showrunner Terry Matalas’ animated “Magic: The Gathering” series, currently in production at Netflix; a major, live-action film and television universe adapted from “Magic: The Gathering,” produced alongside Legendary Entertainment; and game shows based on “Trivial Pursuit” and “Scrabble,” which both premiered on The CW this past fall.

Steinberg and is currently the co-creator, executive producer and showrunner of “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” for Disney+, along with his producing partner Shotz. It just wrapped its second season and has been renewed for a third. Other credits include the critically acclaimed series “The Old Man,” starring Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow for FX. Both series are produced by 20th Television/The Walt Disney Company, where Steinberg and Shotz have housed their production company, Quaker Moving Pictures, since 2019.

GBA: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl + Rocket Power: Beach Bandits + Rocket Power: Dream Scheme + Rocket Power: Zero Gravity Zone + Sabrina The Teenage Witch: Potion Commotion

Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl

The game's plot takes place before the first film and follows Jack Sparrow in his adventures immediately after being marooned by Hector Barbossa on Rumrunner's Isle. He collects pieces of Barbossa's chart and pieces of Aztec gold so he can get revenge. While doing that, he searches for buried gold, steals ships, sacks Hispaniola, and does favors for the governor of Port Royal.
Rocket Power: Beach Bandits

The game begins with the characters of Rocket Power about to start their summer vacation. Suddenly, the characters realize the sand in Ocean Shores has been taken away by a mysterious criminal. After investigation, they find out a company called Golem Industries has stolen all of the sand and decide to stop them.
Rocket Power: Dream Scheme

There's trouble in Ocean Shores. Otto has a nightmare that Dr. Stimpleton captures his sister Reggie and friends Twister and Sam. This sends Otto on a wild chase to find the gang and stop Dr. Stimpleton from using his Stimpleton Device to turn Ocean Shores into a seaside polka resort. You can play as any of your favorite Rocket Power characters, including Otto, Twister, Reggie, and Sam. The game contains 20 levels, 30 areas, and four gameplay styles, including skateboarding, rollerblading, hockey, and pogo stick.
Rocket Power: Zero Gravity Zone

Rocket Power: Zero Gravity is based on the Nickelodeon show of the same name, and features 12 environments for characters Otto, Reggie, Twister, and Sam to skate through.
Sabrina The Teenage Witch: Potion Commotion

Sabrina The Teenage Witch: Potion Commotion is a 2D side-scrolling action/adventure based on the popular TV series. The player, with the help of Salem the cat, explore four worlds including the Spellman's house, a giant tree, the Pizzeria, and the school in search of items to help create a potion that will correct Aunt Hilda's errant spell and return the world to normal. 4 Minigames appear throughout the game.

ICASA Currently Reviewing Proposed Structure Of Canal+'s MultiChoice

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa (Icasa) has published an application to transfer the control of Orbicom’s electronic communication and radio frequency spectrum licences to Canal+.

Orbicom is DStv owner MultiChoice’s signal distributor, and the move is a crucial step to progressing French media giant Canal+’s takeover of the company.

According to the regulator, Orbicom submitted applications on 28 November 2024 to transfer control of its Electronic Communications Service (I-ECS), Individual Electronic Communications Network Services (I-ECNS), and Radio Frequency Spectrum licences to Canal+.

Icasa will evaluate the licence control transfer based on the following criteria:

promotion of competition in the ICT sector;

interests of consumers; and,

equity ownership by Historically Disadvantaged Persons (HDPs).

However, it noted Orbicom’s submission that HDPs hold 40% of Groupe Canal+’s shareholding.

“Any interested party is invited to lodge written representations to the application within fourteen (14) working days from the publication of this notice in the Government Gazette,” said Icasa.

For reference, the watchdog published the notice on Tuesday, 18 March 2025, giving interested persons until Monday, 7 April, to submit their written representations.

This latest move comes after Canal+ offered to acquire MultiChoice when it triggered South Africa’s mandatory offer threshold of 35% ownership.

The French media had gradually but steadily bought up MultiChoice shares on the open market since October 2020 before it hit the threshold in early 2024.

Canal+ offered R125 per share following a reprimand from the Takeover Regulation Panel (TRP) and some back-and-forth with MultiChoice. The offer valued the company at more than R55 billion.

The deal will cost Canal+ over R30 billion in cash, and it has continued buying MultiChoice shares while its offer is under consideration.

The TRP’s latest report on Canal+’s shareholding was in May 2024, revealing a 45.2% shareholding.

While the French media giant was legally mandated to offer to acquire Multichoice, the deal must still overcome several regulatory hurdles.

This includes securing approvals from the Financial Surveillance Department, the JSE, TRP, and Icasa.

ICT policy legal expert Lisa Thornton mentioned that the deal’s success will depend on its structure.

The companies must find a way to continue limiting Canal+’s voting rights to 20% — a requirement for broadcasting licences under the Electronic Communications Act.

It will also have to meet Broad-based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE) rules set out by Icasa, which stipulate that licensees must be 30% owned by HDPs.

To comply, MultiChoice will be carved out as an independent entity, dubbed LicenceCo, to hold South African operating licences.

LicenceCo will also contract with MultiChoice’s South African subscribers, and the remainder of the group’s video entertainment assets will remain with the MultiChoice Group.

MultiChoice Group’s shareholding in LicenceCo will ultimately give it a 49% economic interest and 20% share of voting rights.

“MultiChoice Group will retain its existing 75% direct interest in MultiChoice South Africa, which will exclude LicenceCo. Phuthuma Nathi will similarly retain its existing 25% interest in MultiChoice South Africa,” the companies explained.

“LicenceCo will enter into various commercial agreements with MultiChoice Group subsidiaries in relation to the services currently provided to LicenceCo by other MultiChoice Group entities.”

“These relate to, among other things, the provision of content, technology, subscriber management and support and other functions,” they said.

Regulators Might Impose Harsh Conditions On Canal+'s MultiChoice If Takeover Deal Is Approved

Canal+ is currently awaiting feedback from the Competition Commission regarding its proposed transaction to acquire full ownership of MultiChoice. This deal was scheduled to conclude in April 2025 but was pushed to October 2025 as it undergoes scrutiny by local legislation.

There is a reason why regulators are concerned about the deal cause although Canal+ had proposed launching a separate company LicenceCo. Several competitors including eMedia Investments had suggested a potential loophole in Canal+'s shareholding of MultiChoice despite the 20% cap.

Although LicenceCo would be majority owned by local parties that doesn't mean Canal+ would be helpless they could handle the content viewed on DStv and various other agreements. The other parties could as well give Canal+ creative control and try to be minimal on the basis of costs.

One of the reasons analysts feel that this transaction could be prolonged before reaching the finish line. With Canal+ being a foreigner, they could prioritize their own endeavours seen in France and Europe and leave very little to be desired in Africa one of the reasons regulators might come at them swiftly.

If the deal is approved, regulators could impose several conditions on Canal+ as seen with Walmart-Massmart deal in 2011.

They may ask LicenceCo to submit reports to local regulators to ensure that Canal+ or it's holding company MultiChoice is compliant with the 20% cap. With Canal+ walking away with a 100% stake in MultiChoice, they want to ensure that they'll some local input and not only foreign investment.

Getting onto investment, the purposed DStv spin-off means that MultiChoice wouldn't be a broadcaster but a content distributor. MultiChoice would make it's revenue through carriage agreements and regulators might require that a percentage of revenue goes toward funding the local landscape.

Especially with the proposed launch of LicenceCo, they ask that MultiChoice increase its local output for DStv and Showmax from the current 47%.

With it being deemed as a large merger, regulators could require Canal+ almost double it's investment toward the local landscape as seen with the Walmart-Massmart deal - one of the tricks to scare away some foreign investors.

Canal+ is looking to streamline MultiChoice once the deal moves ahead and regulators might put a lock on these endeavours for a stipulated period (3 to 5 years). They won't be able to reduce staff and likely sell non-core assets like NMIS Insurance Services and Namola.

Why DStv's Channel Expansions Have Lost Appeal?

During the week, MultiChoice unveiled the new DStv price adjustments which will take into effect from 1st April with a second increase scheduled for Worker's Day being May 1st. To ease the blow and retain more consumers, MultiChoice will be making more channels accessible to lower bouquets.

These include SuperSport Schools on DStv Easyview, Zee World and Nicktoons on DStv Access, Comedy Central and Disney Channel on DStv Family and lastly CBS Justice and Curiosity Channel on DStv Compact.

At first glance, these channels open up a new world of entertainment and give these consumers content beyond their wildest imagination. Overtime this spark fades away not because E! still offers Keeping Up With Kardashians but rather they don't expand from what made them magical in the first place therefore the channel loses appeal.

Look at Comedy Central, when it was broadcast on Compact+ it offered Two And A Half Men, The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family. At first, this was a safe haven and if you were a kid (now adult) when it aired therefore it kind of helped you get through the hardships of life.

But the moment Comedy Central is stuck in an endless loop consumers get infuriated. This is what happened when E! made it to Access, Nickelodeon on Compact and will most definitely be what awaits Comedy Central on Family.

The sad reality is that MultiChoice remains powerless on the matter as they only serve as a distributor of content - nothing else. They could opt to remove these channels if they want to and risk losing consumers I mean look at happened when they removed eMedia's 4 channels and WildEarth.

"Developing Story": MultiChoice Extends The Reach Of CBS Justice, Disney Channel, Zee World And Various Other Channels To More DStv Customers

March looks to be a month of significant announcements for DStv customers. Following last week’s move to bring back two concurrent streams to the platform, now DStv Compact customers are getting the addition of five channels to their bouquet.

Here, MultiChoice confirmed that the additional channels will be accessible from 1st April onwards.

The service provider is also punting the discount it offers to Compact customers for its streaming platform – Showmax.

“DStv Compact customers also benefit from access to a second stream on the DStv Stream app, allowing them to stream on two devices concurrently, including smart TVs. Customers will also enjoy a 40% discount on Showmax, providing affordable access to a huge library of movies, series and other content on-demand,” it added in a release shared with Hypertext.

As for the added channels, they are:

SuperSport Action (channel 210),
Africa Magic Showcase (channel 151),
CBS Justice (channel 170),
Curiosity Channel (channel 185),
History Channel (channel 186).

“Spanning kids, movies, music, news, lifestyle, sport and more, DStv Compact is already an excellent viewing experience, and the five new channels and extra concurrent stream add even more value for customers. DStv has confirmed that it will again offer discounted rates to decoder customers who want to lock in their price by paying in advance for 24 months,” highlighted MultiChoice.

DStv Compact is not the only package set to receive additional channels from 1st April. On this front, MultiChoice noted that, “DStv Family, DStv Access, and DStv EasyView customers will also enjoy extra channels.”

DStv Family viewers get Comedy Central (channel 122), HGTV (channel 177), and Disney Channel (channel 303), while DStv Access receives Zee World (channel 166) and Nicktoons (channel 308), along with DStv EasyView gaining SuperSport Schools (channel 216).

Last week, MultiChoice announced that Premium, Compact Plus, and Compact subscribers now have an additional concurrent stream on any device.

1Max Purge From DStv Explained

1Max was Showmax based channel home to variety of locally produced and international content such as The Real Housewives, Youngins and Adulting. Since it's inception, several media outlets including myself had suspected that something was amiss about this channel.

Usually with new channels, MultiChoice tends to give them a lot of press but that wasn't the case for 1Max. Everything was just pieced out at the final moments of 1Magic and while South African consumers were able to access these shows for an additional year most African countries weren't - January or March 2024 was the cut-off.

Lower tailored consumers in South Africa alongside various consumers in other African countries need Showmax to access international shows on M-Net. All that is left on DStv is reruns of Everybody Hates Chris on Comedy Central and Keeping Up With The Kardashians on E! as media companies are optimising for streaming.

MultiChoice sees the 1Max axing as a win for DStv Compact consumers who will have access to Adulting, Youngins and Tracking Thabo Bester. With 1Max these shows would come on a few months or weeks after Showmax with Mzansi Magic that's 6 months if not longer.

This agreement is not a complete win as Compact+ consumers are left with one less channel and 1Max very much like M-Net was meant to build up the subscription. Now that's gone, consumers won't feel it's necessary to hold onto their subscriptions as channels come and go while others downgrade as they start offering little value.

As for M-Net, whose to say it will remain like that for all we know that could be merged with Showmax as MultiChoice feels it's not competitive enough I mean look at SABC 3 even a channel like Mzansi Wethu has more viewers.

Getting back into streaming, Disney had closed a number of its channels across the world for Disney+ so how long will it be till Disney Channel or any other channel on DStv closes in favour of streaming. Netflix had snatched the rights to WWE which is likely to exit SuperSport once it agreement expires in 2027.

GBA: Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness + Nicktoons Racing + Pac-Man Pinball Advance + Monsters, Inc + Pinky And The Brain - Master Plan

Ms. Pac-Man Maze Madness

Professor Pac learns that the evil forces have taken control of the Enchanted Castle, using black magic. The princess has vanished, and a witch named Mesmerelda is planning on stealing all four Gems of Virtue (Generosity, Truth, Wisdom, and Courage) to control the "four wonders" (areas of Pac-Land). These four areas each have enemies in them, and are blocked by mysterious force fields. Professor Pac creates a device called the Pactrometer, which allows Ms. Pac-Man to go to these areas to recover the gems before Mesmerelda can get them first.[9] However, as the Professor is telling Ms. Pac-Man this, he gets sucked into a mirror by the witch, leaving Ms. Pac-Man with the Pactrometer. As she journeys through the areas, she is helped by video messages that the Professor placed in the Pactrometer, and by holograms of Professor Pac.

Nicktoons Racing

Various Nickelodeon characters each receive a letter invitation to compete in a Grand Prix for the top prize, the Krusty Krab Big Bun Award. The host of the competition, also the individual who sent the invitations, is an unknown, unseen driver of a sleek, black car with a tinted dome window simply dubbed as the Mystery Rider, which the participating racers are challenged to beat, as well as each other. Upon arriving and being announced by the Race Announcer, the Mystery Rider and other Nicktoons speed off to begin their first race.

Once the player ultimately completes the game and wins the final Cup to obtain the Krusty Krab Big Bun Award, their playable Nicktoon receives a year supply of Krabby Patties as it is hitched to their go-kart.

Pac-Man Pinball Advance

The plot of the game focuses on the kidnapping of all the residents of Pac-Land by the four ghosts from the Pac-Man series, Blinky, Pinky, Inky, and Clyde. The plot is secondary to the gameplay of the game though, and mostly exists just as a premise to explain why Pac-Man is playing on a pinball table.

Monsters, Inc.

Monsters, Inc. is a 3D platformer. Players control James P. "Sulley" Sullivan through 8 levels based on environments from the movie, including the scream factory Monsters Incorporated, the streets of Monstropolis, Sulley's apartment, the Himalayas, and more. In each level, the main goals might include picking up one or more special items, or finding the exit.

Pinky And The Brain: Master Plan

One night in Acme Labs, Brain concocts what he believes is his "Master Plan". As he and Pinky sleep for the night, two recently-spliced rats named Roofus and Doofus take the plans for themselves. Pinky and Brain must follow them around to retrieve the pages to Brain's plan.

GOODBYE!!! MultiChoice And M-Net Dump 1Max From The DStv Platform By The End Of March, Unveils New Content For DStv Consumers

Viewers of DStv channel Mzansi Magic (channel 161) will have access to 1Max content from 31 March 2025, MultiChoice announced on Wednesday (12 March).

1Max, which was launched in April 2024, features content from popular streaming platform Showmax. It is available to DStv Premium and Compact Plus subscribers in South Africa.

However, MultiChoice has now decided to close it on the DStv platform and migrate its content to Mzansi Magic, according to a MyBroadband report.

‘1Max’ content coming to ‘Mzansi Magic’

“The decision follows detailed research into audience consumption behaviour,” MultiChoice said, adding that it’s part of the company’s channel simplification process.

Many Mzansi Magic viewers are DStv Compact subscribers, which means they previously could not watch Showmax content if they were not Showmax subscribers. They can now watch titles such as:

• Ithonga: A new telenovela about the bond shared by twins, starring Bonko Khoza.

• Cobrizi: The spin-off of the Emmy-nominated and multi-award-winning hit The River.

• Inimba: A new telenovela about Zoleka Mabandla. It is a journey of love, sacrifice, and ambition.

• Genesis: A high-stakes telenovela set in the world of Mzansi’s gospel music scene.

Season 2 of the award-winning Shaka Ilembe which premieres in June 2025.

Although 1Max is closing on DStv, its content is still available on demand on Showmax, which is free for DStv Premium subscribers and comes at a discount for lower packages, including Compact.

This means that viewers can watch their favourite Showmax content on demand on the streaming platform or as part of scheduled programming on Mzansi Magic on DStv.

“We know that our customers want to find their content as quickly as possible, without having to navigate across multiple channels or platforms,” MultiChoice South Africa CEO Byron du Plessis said.

“This consolidation also allows Mzansi Magic to further build its stellar lineup, becoming a stronger premium local content offering than ever before.”

Nickelodeon Unveils New Animated Series, ‘Wylde Pak’

Nickelodeon has revealed a first look at the new 2D animated comedy series, Wylde Pak. Inspired by co-creators and executive producers Paul Watling and Kyle Marshall’s family life, the series follows half siblings Lily and Jack as they learn to navigate blended multigenerational Korean American family dynamics. Wylde Pak is slated to debut this summer on the network.

“Nickelodeon’s commitment to showcasing stories about the human experience, filled with humor and adventure, holds true with the debut of the original series Wylde Pak,” said Ramsey Naito, President of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation. “We can’t wait for our audience to meet this wonderfully blended family, which encapsulates what it means to be a modern family navigating the world around them while learning more about each other along the way."

In the first look clip, Lily, Jack, and their family navigate their local Asian market, Woori World, and compete to find a highly coveted box of imported Hallasand cookies. With mind-bending obstacles coming at them from every direction, Jack, Lily and their family must work together to stand a chance against some tough competition.

Wylde Pak stars Nikki Castillo as Lily Pak and Benjamin Plessala as Jack Wylde. Additional voices include Ben Pronsky as William Wylde; Jee Young Han as Min-Ju Pak; and Jean Yoon as Halmoni.

The show is the second short from Nickelodeon’s Intergalactic Shorts Program to be greenlit into a series. Seonna Hong (My Life as a Teenage Robot) and Conrad Vernon (Shrek) executive produce alongside Watling and Marshall. Development and production are overseen by Claudia Spinelli, Senior Vice President, TV Series Animation, Nickelodeon and Daniel Wineman, Vice President of Original Animation Development. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.
