eMedia Updates: What Happened To The Free 4GB eVOD Data? And Modern Family Returns For A 10th Season On e.tv

The eVOD bonanza has come to an end

Last year, e.tv launched their leaked streaming service eVOD (e-Video-On-Demand) as a so-called freemium streamer with over 2 500 hours of content at launch, including different premium subscription tiers for exclusive content.

e.tv plans to spend at least R100 million per year on creating brand-new local content for eVOD that will include 4 eOriginal series and 10 original South African feature films, and the plan is to add the streaming of live linear TV channels on eVOD in the future.

Within those strings of announcements, it was mentioned MTN consumers would recieve 4GB of eVOD data until 31 January 2022. Some people were probably not aware, thought eMedia forgot about the whole thing or it slipped their minds.

Opinion: this 4GB promotion should have never been introduced or at least not initially as most consumers were likely latching onto the platform with that little data available.

eVOD will need to pull up their socks if they hope to reach the level of other streamers available in the market including MultiChoice's Showmax, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and soon to be launched Disney+ streaming service.

Update: the promotion has been extended until further notice.

More returning shows for e.tv

With Superstore and The Goldbergs out the window, e.tv South Africa's first independent free-to-air entertainment and most watched English channel adds the 10th season of Modern Family.

On the first episode of the tenth season titled "I Love A Parade", The family gets together for the annual Fourth of July parade where Jay acts as the grand marshal. Haley's farewell to Arvin doesn't go as well as expected and she is distracted by the return of an old flame namely Dylan. Phil and Luke want to compete in a hot dog contest which they do and win, while Claire is trained by Alex in cocooning. Also, Mitch and Cam want to show that they can raise Cal by trying to make a video to send to Pam who is in prison, showing Cal doing something new like catching a ball or knowing addition.

Season 10 of Modern Family replaces The Goldbergs at 19:30 from 6 February.

In other developments, e.tv will introduce 2 shows The Mighty Ones and The Lego City (not Lego City Adventures) to their youth block Craze and Kurt En Shura will replace Dokter Ali later this month.
