iCarly Revival Cancelled After 3 Seasons On Paramount+

"iCarly will not be returning for a fourth season on Paramount+," a spokesperson for the streamer told sources in a statement. "The series had a great three-season run and delivered on what fans really wanted to see with Carly and Freddie finally getting together. We want to thank the entire cast, the writers, directors and producers along with the whole crew for their dedication, creativity, and talent."

The first iteration of iCarly aired on Nickelodeon from 2007-2012 and starred Miranda Cosgrove as an early internet influencer whose titular web show becomes very popular. Jennette McCurdy played her best friend Sam, and Nathan Kress played her friend/love interest Freddie, while Jerry Trainer portrayed Carly's older brother Spencer.

All of those principals (except for McCurdy, whose recent memoir I'm Glad My Mom Died explains her retirement from acting) returned for the Paramount+ reboot in 2021, which further explored the romance between Carly and Freddie.

Kress mourned the cancellation on Twitter, writing that the crew "had a lot of story left to tell." He said, "Maybe somehow, someday, we'll find out how to story ends."

"The best people I've ever worked with in the business," Laci Mosley, who joined the reboot cast as Carly's roommate Harper, wrote on Twitter. "Thank you for tuning in to the reboot. Everyone put their deeply kind talented souls into this."

Development Alert: Crunchyroll To Get A Dedicated TV Channel In North America With Global Plans On The Cards, Could MultiChoice Or StarTimes Perhaps Get It?

Since 2006, Crunchyroll has been known as the leading destination for anime fans featuring shows such as My Hero Academia, Demon Slayer, Attack On Titan and One Piece. Since it's inception in 2006, it garnered 120 million subscribers globally with 1% of the population under a paywall.

For a decade, the Sony based brand was available only as a streaming service with a freemium tier available to low income households with select shows licenced to broadcasters in Africa such as Toonami and SABC 2.

Through the greenhouse website, it was revealed that the company is looking for a director/manager in charge of managing the upcoming linear service to the current Crunchyroll streaming service alongside the programming and operations for the brands.

For now, the channel will rollout in North America (likely Latin America) and through a statement it was also mentioned that the Crunchyroll Channel will rollout "in key markets around the world" so we assume they'll be targeting regions which already bundle the streaming service.

South Africa is the most notable within the African region to bundle Crunchyroll alongside various other streaming services such as The Walt Disney Company's Disney+, BBC and ITV Studios' BritBox and Vuclip's VIU. As other territories have yet to see these in their markets.

With a majority of gaming and anime fans residing within South Africa and selected African territories, there's no doubt that Crunchyroll Channel would be a resounding success but questions amounts to whether or if StarTimes and/or MultiChoice will look into adding the channel.

Crunchyroll catering for the same audience as Adult Swim and not Cartoon Network isn't regarded as a kids channel so if anything these channel will likely set alongside brands like Universal, M-Net and BBC Brit on DStv or FilmBox Africa, FilmBox Action and St Zone on StarSat.

Africa: Join The Bug Boogie Dance Party With Cartoonito’s Brand-New Show, Lu & The Bally Bunch

Created by Oscar®-nominated director Nicky Phelan, Lu & the Bally Bunch is about a little ladybird named Lu who has just started preschool with her new friends. Together, they explore their brand-new social lives through play, music, big feelings, and even bigger fun.

As an only child, Lu is used to being the centre of her universe. Having just started preschool, she’s learning that sharing space with five other centres of the universe has its challenges. Exploring the everyday dramas of life in school, Lu & the Bally Bunch is a funny and affectionate look at Lu and her friends - Barnaby, Biba, Declan, Elodie and Gus - as they learn how to get along with each other in their new social setting.

Inspired by Nicky Phelan's memories of helping his mum in her own preschool, Lu & the Bally Bunch celebrates the joy, drama and humour of young schoolers learning to share space. There's nothing as funny as seeing a bunch of three-year-olds fail to navigate each other and nothing as heart-warming as seeing them learn to get along.

Set in Ballybug, a small village home to a community of bugs, Lu and her friends attend Shella Kabooky's Shell School. Shella, a snail, is the wise and kind teacher of the preschool housed in her shell. Inspired by the teachings of Montessori, Shella guides the bugs through games, play and learning with a gentle, kid-led approach. Under Shella's watchful eye, Lu and her friends learn to laugh and play together.

Lu & the Bally Bunch highlights the high-stakes drama of navigating first friendships with real children’s voices, heartfelt humour, and dramatic stories that play out in real-time. The series features real-life and authentic scenarios that young kids deal with as they go to school for the first time, with lessons in social-emotional learning and conflict resolution.

Produced by 9 Story’s award-winning studio, Brown Bag Films, with the participation of Warner Bros. Discovery and CBC Kids, Lu & the Bally Bunch was created by Brown Bag Films’ director, Nicky Phelan (Vampirina, Bing, Octonauts), Oscar®-nominated for his short film Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty. Phelan also directed the series.

Join Lu & the Bally Bunch on their journey with music, laughter, and fun, premiering exclusively on Cartoonito Africa, weekdays at 17:10 CAT, from Monday, 9 October.

What To Expect On Qwest TV Across Africa In November 2023?

BOKANI DYER TRIO
Proud to celebrate his South African heritage, Bokani Dyer has established himself as a rising star on the local jazz scene. After illustrious beginnings, it was in 2016 that he officially founded his own trio with Romy Brauteseth, a popular double bass player from Port Elizabeth, and Sphelelo Mazibuko, who comes from a family of drummers from Newcastle (South Africa). Thanks to the resounding success of their debut album, Neo Native, which has since won awards at the South African Music Awards, the group is turning heads on a global scale (winning praise from the New York Times and the London Jazz News).
We find the trio in 2021 at the Festival Jazz & Classical Encounters Vol. 3, during a performance dedicated to Sibongile Khumalo and Andre Petersen, two veterans of the South African scene who were victims of the global health crisis. Bokani combines classical, African and even Latin influences. The trio demonstrates a contagious joie de vivre and is above all born from a deep sense of complicity. The desire to distance themselves from the conventional sounds of jazz leads them to unexplored horizons– those of a new wave of ethno jazz. The trio thus offers the experience of a unifying message, engaging melodies, and unparalleled creativity.
TROMBONE SHORTY
The Olympia hall is getting a breath of fresh air: backed by the band Orleans Avenue, Trombone Shorty performs a particularly effective repertoire. Renowned for his open-mindedness (he worked in the past with Lenny Kravitz and contributed to the soundtrack of the excellent television series Treme), the trombonist, saxophonist and singer from Louisiana begins with "Buckjump," a composition whose electric dimension stuns the audience. Endowed with a captivating technique, Trombone Shorty then delivers a performance influenced by the insane interjections of Joe Bowie, the leader of Defunkt, and by the thick rhythms of the not-so-distant "Zigaboo" Modeliste, the drummer of the Meters. This phenomenon is noticeable when listening to the formidable "Suburbia" and the catchy "One Night Only" or "Encore".
Captured in October 2013 by Samuel Petit, this gig full of soul and rock sounds also allows itself a few forays into blues and jazz lands as indicated by "St. James Infirmary," a standard already played by Trombone Shorty at the White House for Mr and Mrs Obama. Organic as hell (and what a groove!), these different tracks announce above all the albums of the prodigal trumpeter for Don Was and the legendary Blue Note label: highly recommended...
MADE AND FEMI KUTI
At the dawn of the 21st century, a decade after the death of the "black president," Femi was the first son of Fela to take up the paternal torch. Since then, albums, collaborations and world tours have kept this body of work intimately linked to the Kuti family alive. Everything is thus in place to immerse you, even convert you with this beautifully captured concert whose final "Water No Get Enemy" (great classic of the golden age) suddenly makes you regret not having bought tickets for that night.
MAKAYA MCCRAVEN
Drummer extraordinaire Makaya McCraven brought his trio to open the 2021 La Rochelle Jazz Festival on October 13. A strong representative of the vibrant new American jazz scene, McCraven shapeshifts his five originals he presents for this show, using samplers at times, and generally taking the drums to a new place in the jazz legacy. He’s an inventive drummer who flies beyond swing, using a percussive, hip-hop styled improvisational thrust to the music. He deals in a riveting drive and a powerful groove in this set that features saxophonist/flutist De’Sean Jones who also blows an EWI to accentuate the jazz/electronic mix.

The France-born, Chicago-based, University of Massachusetts, Amherst-educated McCraven was mentored by such jazz icons as Archie Shepp, Marion Brown and Yusef Lateef which explains why he became so free to stretch beyond the norm to become an original voice. He’s earned the nickname 'Beat Scientist'. By the end of the set finale, “This Place, That Place,” McCraven showed how he cooks up a mean jazz experiment.

Fan favourite series returns to Comedy Central

This partially unscripted comedy brings viewers into the squad car as incompetent officers swing into action, answering 911 calls about everything from speeding violations and prostitution to staking out a drug den. Within each episode, viewers catch a "fly on the wall" glimpse of the cops' often politically incorrect opinions, ranging from their personal feelings to professional critiques of their colleagues.

It starred Cedric Yarbrough, Niecy Nash, Robert Ben Garant, Thomas Lennon, Carlos Alazraqui, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Mary Birdsong, Ian Roberts and Joe Lo Truglio.

Local news in your language on SABC+

Through a brief press release, SABC News was spun off onto a multilingual news channel, SABC Lehae. Resigning exclusively on SABC's DTT, the channel is said to cater for non-DStv or paying consumers which resulted in the abrupt cancellation of SABC News.

Now the channel is currently streaming on SABC+ alongside existing brands such as SABC 1-3, SABC Sport and SABC Education. As mentioned, SABC News is exclusive to DStv meaning that SABC Lehae is now the leading destination for local and global news on the platform.

Mbali is a beautiful township girl with boundless ambition who gets caught on the wrong side of the law

A former teen beauty queen, she has the looks to drive men crazy. But, she is poor and lives in a small backroom in Diepkloof with her mother Phindile, her sister Phumla and daughter Khethiwe.

The family lives off Siya, Mbali’s boyfriend, a criminal who sells Mbali dreams of a lavish life. But when he gets arrested, the family is plunged deep into poverty as their main financial support is lost.

Development Alert: SABC Reportedly Registered A New Channel On DTT, SABC Variety

Last month, SABC through a small press release on their website had unveiled their second news channel, SABC Lehae. After losing rights to SABC News, the channel would telecast news segments seen on SABC 1-3 alongside archived material with plans to offer live news.

Prior to that time, it was reported that the public broadcaster was in production of another TV channel with sources suggesting it to be a general entertainment channel which led to speculation of SABC Encore.

Following its demise on DStv, SABC was looking to revive the channel and for 3 years there has yet to be an update on when or if that is still on the cards. They had used it as a pop-up channel on their DTT platforms during that time but other than that nothing until now.

Not long ago, a viewer had spotted a channel on DTT known as SABC Variety which we presume was the rumoured channel the public broadcaster was looking to unveil within the first quarter of 2024. It could be a new name for the long-speculated SABC Encore channel.

The public broadcaster hasn't shared details about the content but SABC+ has a variety section known as SABC Reality for shows like Nyan Nyan, Motswako, Afro Cafe and Spykaart. So we can only assume that this a rival brand to eKasi on eReality, Via, Moja Love and HONEY.

The Splat: Nicktoons And Possible Nick Jr. To Unveil A Brand New On Air Look Likely In October/November Across Africa

During the year, Nickelodeon unveiled a brand new on air look which saw the brand reprise one of their iconic logos and give it a more iconic feel. This format was duplicated across several platforms with most international territories only able to update their designs by August 2023.

Prior to its international rollout, there had been questions from several consumers regarding Nicktoons, TeenNick and Nick Jr. As these brands had taken longer than anticipated to switchover in these regions with the recent switch spotted across several promos this month.

Although, there hasn't been official word on when this will transpire in other territories. Through some November highlights for the brands in Africa, Nicktoons is now listed with a Splat logo while Nick Jr. for the time being remains unscathed unlike what's transpired in France.

If I had to guess, Nicktoons could debut the new logo between October and November with Nick Jr. operating with a globalised feed is complicated. Considering that the Splat logo was spotted on the preschool brand in France I'd assume that the switch will happen sometime in the year.

PBS Kids which serves as somewhat of a contender to Nick Jr. has gone down a similar route with the new simplified logo spotted within ad breaks while the kid friendly green logo is spotted on the top right corner of the channel with bumpers included.
