A+E Networks Issued A Statement Regarding The DStv Decision To Cancel History, Lifetime And C&I Channels

“DStv announced that they plan to take away the A+E Networks Africa family of channels, including HISTORY (channel 186), Crime+Investigation (channel 170) and Lifetime (channel 131) from their customers. DStv has decided that our channels do not offer good value to their subscribers. Fans of our channels could soon miss out on the thousands of hours of new and unique shows we provide across our world class global brands including Surviving R Kelly, Forged in Fire, American Pickers, Curse of Oak Island, Damian Lewis Spy Wars, The First 48, Homicide Hunter, Married at First Sight, Little Women, Lifetime movies, Lost Gold of World War2, Watergate, Treasures Decoded, and many more. This includes current and upcoming local programming such as Crime Stories SA, Don’t Tell the Bride SA and Loved Like Crazy.
We have been very proactive in trying to reach an agreement that is best for our viewers and for DStv. Our goal is to continue to bring our high-quality, award-winning programming to our local audiences. Our channels are available to viewers in over 160 countries around the world, and we negotiate several of these deals every
year. We are willing to keep negotiations open and we sincerely hope DStv will find a way to work with us to keep our channels so we can continue to share our great upcoming local and international programmes with our loyal fans. Why Openview Consumers Are Now Able To Watch Games Exclusive To SuperSport And DStv?

A few years ago, SuperSport which serves as one of the largest sports broadcasters in Africa offering a wide range of sports ranging from football, rugby, tennis, boxing and wrestling formalised an agreement with the SABC for Betway Premiership. Initially, these games could have been viewed on rival broadcasters like Openview alongside SABC:s DTT. In recent years, SuperSport decided to add some restrictions to these agreements when licensing them to the SABC that included blocking transmission from being received to Openview consumers. This benefited the SABC as they would be paying much less for these rights and it prompted eMedia Investments to take legal action. Several punches were thrown during this time with eMedia Investments accusing SuperSport of an abuse in power while they accused them of "free riding". eMedia Investments' didn't need to pay for these games as they were being broadcast on SABC 1 so this was basically burdened to the SABC at the time eMedia

SHOCKING DEVELOPMENT!!! StarSat Has Been Operating Illegally In South Africa After Failing To Renew Its License By July 2023

A few months ago, it was reported that StarSat should have shut down in South Africa from September 18th which was 2 days ago but didn't as they continued maintaining an active presence in the market. At the time, ICASA didn't give a reason on the sudden dismissal of Chinese based pay-tv service formerly known as TopTV. TopTV was launched back in 2010 by On Digital Media as a rival to MultiChoice's DStv with its own lineup of premium entertainment and sports. Overtime, it had been flooded with debt that it that was on the verge of bankruptcy until StarTimes opted to acquire the company which was met with a lot of controversy. First for its plan to introduce several pornographic content to some of its consumers and another for the scaling back of local content.
