But just how are recoverable and recyclable materials from discarded objects retrieved and reused? This informative series follows the life cycle of materials as they are stripped apart and reborn as new and wildly different tools. Train tracks go back on the rails as a luxury car; detergent jugs are reborn as a durable parking pad; aluminium ladders melt down into parts for oil tankers; and wax cardboard boxes shred into fire logs. These are some of the items that undergo an extraordinary transformation. Once these objects have been destroyed, the programme follows their journey across the world to their final destination - and the factory where it all gets put back together again into a different product.
