GHOST ELEPHANTS
Wednesday, 11 March at 18:00
Ghost Elephants follows South African naturalist Dr Steve Boyes on a decade-long quest into the remote highland plateaus of Angola to track down the elusive “ghost elephants” - a possible, previously undiscovered lineage of giant African elephants believed to be related to the famed Fénykövi specimen, the largest land mammal ever recorded (now in the Smithsonian museum).
Director Werner Herzog accompanies Boyes, Kerllen Costa and expert San trackers on an arduous expedition through rugged terrain, exploring not only the scientific hunt for physical evidence like DNA but also the deeper mythic and philosophical pull of the search itself. The film blends breathtaking landscapes, indigenous knowledge and ritual with contemplative narration, ultimately questioning whether some mysteries are meant to remain dreams as much as discoveries.
