Development Alert: Telemundo Africa To Halt Production Of New Content In The Coming Months For More Rebroadcasts

Image
Telemundo is a general entertainment channel that is currently distributed by NBCUniversal and home to Spanish language entertainment dubbed in English. The channel has garnered popularity for shows like My Heart Beats For Lola, Lord Of The Skies and Nurses. It's popularity is what led to additions of Zee World and Star Life which boast a selection of Bollywood films and series and several years down the line an alternative/rival brand based in Mexico boasting a similar offering to the channel, TLNovelas. For almost a decade, Telemundo has been going through several hurdles with their primetime schedule. At launch, they featured 4 shows and later could expand to include 2 shows. Fast forward to 2023, Telemundo doesn't have enough content to fill up their schedule. Nurses is scheduled to end sometime in July while as other platforms such as their Passionistas Group on Facebook plans to broadcast the classic Land Of Passions. Those using DStv and GOtv are expected to embrac

The Walt Disney Company To Close 11 Channels In Taiwan, Could Africa Follow Perhaps?

Image
In 2021, The Walt Disney Company unveiled plans to close 100 international channels so there was a lot of fear for the Disney Channels in Africa following the closure of Disney XD and FOX but MultiChoice managed to secure rights for these brands through 2024. Fast forward to 2023, The Walt Disney Company had confirmed the closure of more channels with consumers in Taiwan set to lose out on a number of brands including National Geographic, National Geographic Wild, Baby TV, Star Entertainment and Star World. Disney+ launched in 2019 and has since then become a top priority for the blue brand. Not much investment is going onto Disney Channel or National Geographic as the brands being used to promote the bulk of content seen on the streaming service. Following the demise of these channels in Taiwan, there's now a lot of fear for these channels in Africa and I know MultiChoice had managed to carry Disney Channel, Disney Junior, National Geographic and National Geographic Wild thr

Mediawan Kids & Family’s new 2D production house, Somewhere Animation, is teaming up with video game adaptation specialist Marla Studios to turn creature-collection game Temtem into a comedy-adventure series for kids. The partners are developing the massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) from Spanish developer Crema into a 26 x 22-minute series for kids ages six and up. Josh Hamilton—best known for his work as a writer on Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender—will write and direct the new series as showrunner. Temtem was released in 2020 on PCs and consoles after a successful Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign. By September 2022, it had reached one million total users across all platforms, according to its Kickstarter updates. Set in a fantastical island world, the game lets players collect and tame mystical creatures called Temtem, which can be used for battling, trading with friends and breeding to create offspring with new powers. The game differs from

Development Alert: Roekeloos Dade And Rebroadcast To uBettina Wethu Are Switching Timeslots

Image
Roekeloos Dade launched on e.tv last month with the VIU original uBettina Wethu currently seen on SABC 1 rolling out months prior. It hasn't even been 6 months yet and e.tv has made yet another adjustment to the offering which would see both shows exchange timeslots. From Monday 19 June, a rebroadcast of uBettina Wethu airs daily from 6pm which is just an hour later while as Roekeloos Dade a series that isn't a rebroadcast, has less airtime on the channel with some viewers not able to keep up with daily rebroadcasts moves to 5pm. This comes after The Goldbergs was axed on e.tv after 3 seasons with further content available on eXposed and for DStv consumers on Me. Devi similar to Checkpoint had her timeslot altered at the last minute. No reason was given for the sudden change but if I had to guess, eMedia Investments was probably trying to get uBettina Wethu closer to the other local offering seen on the channel as seen with rebroadcasts of Isitha: The Enemy with House

Tyler Perry (Madea, Gone Girl), founder and CEO of Tyler Perry Studios, will take control of BET, The Streamr has learned. The deal comes as a relief to Paramount Global, who I have learned is “hemorrhaging money”, according to a source, to the tune of more than $400 million. For reference, Perry’s net worth was recently stated by Forbes as $1 billion. This new deal, valued at an undisclosed amount, will give Perry, a veteran champion of content aimed at the African American demographic, control BET Media Group, which also owns VH1.  TYLER PERRY, BET, AND STREAMING BET+, the streaming service for the cable channel, is a joint venture between Paramount Streaming and Tyler Perry Studios. Launched in 2019, the service established a 4 year relationship between Paramount and Perry. CEO of Paramount Global, Bob Bakish, previously explored a sale of a majority stake in the company. CNBC reported that insiders at Paramount believed selling to a group of wealthy black investors could “unlock

Recap To The Decade: 10 TV Channels You Probably Forgot Existed On Openview

Image
Openview is a free-to-air platform operated by eMedia Investments that also manage brands such as e.tv, eReality and eExtra part of which are ranked the top 10 channels. For several years, they've been to be a worthy foe to pay-tv serving affordable entertainment. It wasn't always like this initially the platform was more of an Easyview type platform and if we remember the DStv bouquet it was one of MultiChoice's crappiest products to exist and Openview at the time was basically that with the exception of eMovies and eToonz. Now we look at 10 forgotten channels once seen on Openview. 1. English Club TV English Club TV sets out to be one of the most least crappiest products on this list. If anything the channel was very promising as it featured documentaries, films, cartoons and music video all of which are illustrated for those who study English. At the time this channel was around, eMedia Investments didn't have that much consumers. In some way, English Club TV
