Over the years, MultiChoice has lost several Premium subscribers due to the ongoing increase in costs for the package as well as streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video offering cheaper services.
Sometime ago, MultiChoice mentioned they were planning to launch the Premium downfall package known as DStv Flex which is geared towards the mid to top tier consumers.
The timing for this package couldn't have come at a better time. As viewers noticed, a lot of international channels have been pulled off as their suppliers are taking back the content and adding it to onto their streaming services.
In the end, consumers are left with less options and no reason to stay on the platform.
MultiChoice has been working around the clock to keep these viewers connected through the launches of several local channels and M-Net's increased investment within the local industry.
No matter how successful their attempts have been when it comes down to costs viewers feel they're not getting enough which is where DStv Flex comes in.
DStv Flex charges less than the Premium package and has a smaller offering which consists mainly of Premium channels alongside other value added services such as a sports package and Add Movies.
Will this platform end DStv Premium?
Not necessarily, as cheap as it can be you have limited channels so Premium will remain on top. MultiChoice could however chop several channels and merge Compact+ with the Premium package.
With the help of DStv Catch-up, Add Movies, Explora Ultra, Insurance and the DStv app they'll recover from any losses contributed to this.
