Could Boomerang Be On The Chopping Block Likely For Cartoonito??? As Warner Bros. Discovery Africa Remains Silent About Upcoming Attractions

Boomerang is a 24 hour family based children's channel operated by Warner Bros. Discovery that is home to shows like Zig & Sharko, Mr. Bean and Grizzy And The Lemmings and it's even a branded mascot for franchises such as Looney Tunes, Scooby-Doo and Tom And Jerry.

In 2021, Warner Bros. Discovery unveiled plans to produce content for girls, preschoolers and families so there came Cartoonito. A new preschool destination consisting of original content like Batwheels alongside other shows like CoComelon and Lucas The Spider.

Since then, several markets already supply a daily programming block on various Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels while others went as far as operating a standalone channel to assist with some of the content while as build the offering.

For a while, it had been long speculated that Warner Bros. Discovery was planning to give Boomerang the axe after plans were underway to build Cartoon Network's family offering with whatever remains of Boomerang aligning itself closer with Cartoonito.

As we fast forward to 2023, Boomerang has no original programming left as it's current program Looney Tunes Cartoons has wrapped production leaving them with mostly reruns alongside Cartoonito favoured shows Legend Of Spark and The Adventures Of Little Penguin.

Now in February branded the month of love, Warner Bros. Discovery thought of sending a little gift to media outlets, Looney Tunes Cartoons a show not suitable for Cartoonito being branded a Cartoonito. Implying that a rebrand could be in development.

Taking to account the timeframe, it's possible the switch will happen in March as seen with other European countries as Warner Bros. Discovery continues to promote upcoming attractions for TNT and Cartoon Network but remain silent with Boomerang.

Boomerang has always been the Comedy Central of children's TV sure it may not have quality content or a decent schedule but it was good to the pass the time and all the memories shared with the brand will always have a space in viewer's hearts.

Boomerang To Remain In France For The Time Being As Boing Exits The Market, Could More Regions Follow?

During the week, Warner Bros. Discovery in France announced the launch of a new preschool brand, Cartoonito. A brand which operates as a linear channel and a programming block on various Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels.

Some of the shows expected for the preschool counterpart come from supposed brands above including Lucas The Spider, Thomas And Friends, Mush Mush And The Mushables, Interstellar Ella, Batwheels and Bugs Bunny Builders.

Cartoonito will be standing beside Boomerang as seen in the UK and Italy as opposed to a replacement as seen in Latin America and soon parts of Europe. In a recent, development it was confirmed the channel would replace Boing instead.

Pink Panther: Pinkadelic Pursuit
Spider-Man Toxic City
Baby Felix Halloween

Take to account, several Boomerang feeds are already being phased out for Cartoonito. Is it possible that Boing too is being phased out completely or is it possible for Boomerang to take it's place?

Boing served as a mashup of Cartoon Network and Boomerang offering shows currently and formerly viewed on the channels including Adventure Time, Teen Titans GO!, Secret Saturday, Angelo Rules, The Jungle Bunch and Total Drama.

Its success had led to a number of regions such as France, Italy, Spain and Africa to sought out the modern/retro infused channel for their own means.

Boing to sum it up was what Boomerang in these regions used to be and had since then abandoned - TCM. Over the years, that format despite being met with praise by audiences was eventually phased out for the Comedy Central inspired brand we came to love.

I mean the reasons it had to be altered seemed very much logical. Firstly, repeat channels don't get that much attention one of the reasons TCM, AMC and even Sundance TV were phased out in a lot of regions and Boomerang fitting in the trio was the most successful.

Boing in general isn't that knowledgeable by a lot of people as seen with Boomerang. The main feed is kind of like what Boing is today with a lot of history involved so phasing out European based channel wouldn't be a bad idea as it makes business sense.

Important Notice: Several YouTube Channels For Boomerang Rebrand To Cartoonito

Boomerang is expected to be obsolete by March 2023 in Central Eastern Europe which consists of regions like Poland, Hungary, Denmark, Romania, Russia, Belgium and likely Austria, Germany, Switzerland basically most of the regions which got a Cartoonito domain.

As reported during the week, it appears Africa which is still awaiting confirmation from Warner Bros. Discovery alongside France which has very much been confirmed are expected to rollout the Cartoonito Channel within the period of the above-mentioned regions.

Since then, Boomerang Africa has boosting it's preschool offering accompanied by Cartoonito with France expected to use Boing to supplement the Cartoonito offering while Boomerang in that region remains intact.

Boomerang Africa Also Rumoured To Be Replaced With Cartoonito By Early 2023

During the week, it was reported Warner Bros. Discovery in France would be rolling out a dedicated preschool channel, Cartoonito which currently runs a programming block on various Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels.

Prior to that, some parts of Europe have already confirmed the distribution of Cartoonito by March with Warner Bros. Discovery in Africa remaining silent with the recent developments that have been seen across the world.

For several months, Cartoonito has been increasing its stake on the channel while as Boomerang continues funneling their schedule with more preschool based shows like The Adventures Of Little Penguin and Legend Of Spark.

It was no later than late January where the lineup of both Cartoonito and Boomerang collided when Masha And The Bear and Grizzy And The Lemmings were slotted in the programming block while as being made available outside of the block.

It further boosted speculation for the Cartoonito Channel's presence in the African market as shows like the above-mentioned alongside Batwheels and Interstellar Ella were all confirmed to rollout on Boomerang later in the year.

In a recent press siting where visuals are provided for brands like TNT, Cartoon Network and Boomerang. Several posters came in Looney Tunes Cartoons and Thomas And Friends both of which are now labelled as Cartoonito.

Take to account, programming blocks are only labelled under their respective brand which in this case happens to be Boomerang as seen previously.

If this happens to be accurate, it means Cartoonito might have a chance to rollout no later than March as seen in Central Eastern Europe which consists of Poland, Hungary, Denmark, Romania and several others or April like France as the material in question is for this month.

The sources in charge of providing visuals also took the time to unveil details regarding upcoming attractions for TNT and Cartoon Network but remain silent on anything regarding Boomerang as the recent sitings now label the brand's recent batch of content Cartoonito.

Prior to its launch in France, it was already confirmed a linear component would rollout in Central Eastern Europe by next month in place of Boomerang. Of course, WBD in Africa remains silent about the latest developments seen internationally.

It wouldn't be far fetched if EMEA took a similar route as Latin America and already mentioned Central Eastern Europe as Boomerang's remaining offering loses more hours to the rise in preschool programming which since 2021 has been regarded as Cartoonito.

On top of soon to be launched dedicated website for Cartoonito, most of the announced upcoming attractions for Boomerang at the MultiChoice Showcase in 2022 such as Interstellar Ella and Batwheels are launching on Cartoonito elsewhere.

Reminder: Several Cartoonito Domains Have Reportedly Been Registered Ahead Of The Channel's Rollout In Central Eastern Europe In March 2023

Cartoonito is a brand name used by Warner Bros. Discovery for various preschool content. As seen in most markets, the brand currently operates as a programming block on various Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels.

For several years now, it had been long speculated various linear counterparts to the brand were in the works with Latin America launching theirs in 2021 followed by CEE in 2023. It is anticipated that more markets will follow in the coming future.

At the moment, several domains for the brand had been registered most of which either remain inactive or redirect users to the UK website.

Cartoonito Is Coming!!! As Boomerang Africa Loses An Additional Two Hours Of Airtime And Possible Programming

As you already know, another Boomerang feed will be closed down and supplemented with Cartoonito which is currently seen in this region as a programming block. In CEE, shows like Tom And Jerry, Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo are expected to rollout on Cartoon Network with Mr. Bean and Grizzy And The Lemmings residing with Cartoonito.

The variations have differed in a lot of regions as Italy for starters offers Tom And Jerry with Latin America adding Scooby-Doo to the lineup. From an honest perspective, I wouldn't be shocked if the outcome seen on CEE was duplicated in EMEA.

Although, there has yet to be news of a rebrand Warner has been adjusting Cartoonito's schedule and with this latest change I wouldn't be shocked if Boomerang were to be phased out before the end of the year especially with Batwheels debuting on the channel soon.

Insidus Games:
- Bugs Bunny & Lola Bunny: Operation Carrot Patch
- Buzz Lightyear Star Command
- Fix It Fun! Bob The Builder
- Daffy Duck: Fowl Play

Boomerang hasn't got much left on their plate aside from preschool shows Legend Of Spark and The Adventures Of Little Penguin. I assume these changes were probably one way Warner intends to rollout the Cartoonito channel.

As advised, Cartoonito's additional airtime comes with mascots from the channel and not only that they appear to exist outside of the block. Basically, it appears as if there's somewhat of a merger/crossover basically taking the brand from 2 to 4 hours.

Presenting the schedule rolling out in the coming weeks on Boomerang with preschool orientation highlighted in bold italics:

00:05 Zig & Sharko
00:30 Moka's Fabulous Adventures
00:50 Moka's Fabulous Adventures

22:40 Masha And The Bear
23:00 New Looney Tunes
23:20 New Looney Tunes
23:45 Zig & Sharko

Taking the above developments to account, is it possible that just like CEE even EMEA (Africa) is doing something similar with their schedule before rolling out the channel I mean I wouldn't be shocked if that was the case.

Insidus Games: Race With Characters From Ed Edd'n Eddy, Courage The Cowardly Dog, Sheep In The Big City And More In Cartoon Network's Speedway

Cartoon Network Speedway is a kart racing video game released for the Game Boy Advance in 2003. Published by Majesco Entertainment and developed by DC Studios, the game features characters from Cartoon Network 's original animated television series; Ed, Edd n Eddy, Johnny Bravo, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Cow and Chicken, and Sheep in the Big City.

All of your favorite stars on Cartoon Network are revving their engines to compete for the Speedway Championship. Join the kart-racing action as one of 12 characters from Courage the Cowardly Dog; Cow and Chicken; Ed, Edd n Eddy; Johnny Bravo; and Sheep in the Big City. To maneuver around the obstacles in each course, you must use speed boosts, jumps, and power-ups to your advantage. Impress the audience with stunts to earn the highest popularity rating.

The game received mixed reviews by critics and gamers alike. On IGN, it received a 3 out of 10, reviewer Craig Harris stating "Cartoon Network Speedway is one of the sloppiest and most generic kart racers released on the Game Boy Advance." It currently has a 53% rating on GameRankings. It was also given a 65 out of 100 from Next Level Gaming, a 3 out of 5 from Nintendo Power, and 58 out of 100 from VG-Force. Complaints centered on bad and choppy graphics, the slow pace, the fact that characters from Dexter's Laboratory and The Powerpuff Girls (both popular Cartoon Network franchises) were unavailable, and the lack of challenge.

Cartoonito Is Coming!!! As Boomerang Is Set To Close Down In Central Eastern Europe By March 2023

Cartoonito is a brand name Warner Bros. Discovery gives to Cartoon Network's preschool offering since it's rollout in 2020. It has been well established in Europe and since then several original shows have been produced.

Notable shows include Batwheels, Bugs Bunny Builders, Little Ellen (scrapped) and upcoming shows like Tom And Jerry Time, Scooby-Doo And The Mystery Pups and Jessica's Big Little World.

As seen in various markets, Cartoonito operates as a linear channel and comes with programming blocks on Cartoon Network and Boomerang part of which has started gaining traction after news of another Boomerang closure came in.

Insidus Games:
Tom And Jerry: Infurnal Escape
Tom And Jerry: The Magic Ring
The Wild Thornberrys Movie
The Wild Thornberrys: Chimp Chase

Two years after Cartoonito rollout in Latin America, sources revealed that Boomerang in Central Eastern Europe will also be rebranding the channel to Cartoonito in March since then several shows such as Looney Tunes Cartoons had exited the schedule.

Of course, Boomerang in most EMEA regions had become a preschool hub even before Cartoonito with shows like Grizzy And The Lemmings, Masha And The Bear, Pat The Dog and in some shocking news Mr. Bean so it's possible that the feeds could remain for the time being.

Take one factor to account, the channel is out of content as their remaining shows such as Looney Tunes Cartoons and Tom And Jerry In New York have already been shelved while as Legend Of Spark and The Adventures Of Little Penguin are technically preschool.

Regular Nick:
CBeebies picks up second season to Tish And Tash

We Baby Bears currently the only original program on Cartoon Network
January on Cartoon Network and Boomerang

If anything, I'd expect more Boomerang channels to follow or at least ones identical to the EMEA feeds as we got some OGs that have yet to air not that we're behind on anything but it would make sense for the rebrand to happen once they launch.

I'd love to see Warner Bros. Discovery create a lot of hype and save up content for the Cartoonito channel but from the looks of the feed in EMEA even CEE you got to wonder how much content is being saved up ahead of its launch or not being used as a pawn.

Boomerang Vs. Cartoonito: Warner Bros. Discovery's Attempt At Reinventing A Family Friendly Platform

Cartoonito was relaunched on Boomerang in April with shows like Thomas And Friends: All Engines Go!, Lucas The Spider and CoComelon with plans to add at least 50 preschool titles in the near future or at least before the recent cutbacks come into effect following the merger.

One thing I believe will happen is the 50 titles but what seems far-off would be the duration. As it is, Cartoon Network's (including Cartoonito) ratings continue to plummet overseas but the brand has seen success in other countries.

But the one brand I see Warner Bros. Discovery doesn't take to account is Boomerang. As it is, the channel appears to be autopilot relying on the few programs it acquired or aired during the year including Looney Tunes Cartoons, Ninja Express and Mr. Bean.

Insidus Games:
- Tom And Jerry: Infurnal Escape
- Tom And Jerry: The Magic Ring
- The Wild Thornberrys Movie
- The Wild Thornberrys: Chimp Chase

All in all it appears that all the attention once given to Boomerang is being reverted to Cartoonito as they've got a lineup of existing preschool shows like Masha And The Bear, Legends Of Spark and Grizzy And The Lemmings.

Boomerang has been considered a family channel for nearly a decade now that Warner Bros. Discovery wants to put that focus on Cartoon Network. It kind of makes sense for the channel to adopt a new identity and for that I'm referring to their preschool brand, Cartoonito.

Cartoonito exists as a mere block on the channel and there hasn't been a lot of new content that doesn't mean it's not impossible to convert Boomerang. As mentioned, they've already got a set of existing content that fit the preschool brand current offering internationally.

Regular Nick:
CBeebies picks up second season to Tish And Tash
Best & Bester coming soon to Nicktoons
We Baby Bears currently the only original program on Cartoon Network
January on Cartoon Network and Boomerang

On top of that there is the matter of upcoming productions such as Interstellar Ella, Batwheels and True And Rainbow Kingdom all of which being preschool were registered for Boomerang.

Although, I have yet to see them rebrand the channel there hasn't been any new content that caters to the demographic of Zig & Sharko, Looney Tunes Cartoons or Ninja Express likely having to do with the recent Redraw Your World taking to effect on Cartoon Network.

Boomerang Rebranding To Cartoonito In Central Eastern Europe??? As The Schedule Funnels It's Schedule With Preschool Content

Last year, I did a few articles about Cartoonito's future on Warner Bros. Discovery and with Boomerang having less content to themselves or at least made it feel like Boomerang my theory was that the preschool brand would take up its space.

There's a lot of evidence which supports that theory, first has to do with its demise in Latin America I mean the Spanish part of the United States has no Boomerang and the second having to do with the fact that there hasn't been any family content on the channel.

If I had to look at the series launches this year we had Akissi and Legend Of Spark of which one is considered preschool and another branded Cartoonito. Other shows to have launched include Thomas And Friends, CoComelon and initially acquired for Boomerang, Lucas The Spider.

Possibly signalling the end of Boomerang's family slate with Looney Tunes scrapped and Tom And Jerry In New York on hiatus likely cancelled. In the end, there's always Movie Stars which seems to be the only thing not feeling the Cartoonito effect for now.

In CEE, a user unveiled Boomerang's schedule for next year as seen below:

6:00 Tom and Jerry in New York
6:25 Tom and Jerry in New York
6:45 Lamput
7:00 Grizzy and the Lemmings

4:30 Grizzy and the Lemmings
4:50 Lamput
5:00 Mighty Mike

Notice how shows like Looney Tunes Cartoons and Be Cool, Scooby-Doo! fell off the schedule and the remaining shows all cater to preschoolers which could be a possible hint to the Cartoonito linear channel.

Although it hasn't been confirmed, would it be shocking if that were the case I mean the brand had retained some preschool shows while others were made available to the Cartoonito block.

Roundups #115: Tom And Jerry In New York Cancelled On Boomerang And HBO Max, Lord Of The Skies Returns For An Eighth Season On Telemundo USA And The Addams Family Spinoff Wednesday Is A Global Success On Netflix

Tom And Jerry likely cancelled on HBO Max

Based on the 2021 theatrical film, Tom and Jerry In New York settle in to their new digs at the Royal Gate Hotel and unleash mayhem across the Big Apple, inciting chaos uptown, downtown and everywhere their manic escapades take them.

The series premiered in the same year on HBO Max and was made available to Cartoon Network and Boomerang channels internationally with a total of 13 episodes each with a duration of 21 minutes over 2 seasons.

Since November 2021, no more episodes had been ordered and with the reconstruction of Warner Bros. Discovery it wouldn't be shocking if it were cancelled considering how the theatrical film performed.

Regardless, the crew are working on the preschool series Tom And Jerry Time for Cartoonito.

Aurelio returns for another season on Telemundo

It's official! Telemundo revealed the premiere date for season 8 of 'El señor de los cielos'. Through its social networks, the television house shared a video where Aurelio Casillas (Rafael Amaya) is seen being tortured in jail.

"They took me out of the grave, they made everyone believe that I was dead. Locked up, tortured, like an animal, but there is no caged animal that does not want to escape and that does not want to return to its herd. The family is not touched, much less if they are Casillas", the protagonist is heard saying.

Season 8 of 'El señor de los cielos' premieres on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 on Telemundo.

For the continuation of the story, one of the actors who confirmed his return was Isabella Castillo, who shines with Isidro (Garbiel Bonilla), who returns with his role as the son of Aurelio Casillas (Rafael Amaya). Another beloved character is Tata (Wendy de los Cobos), who published an image with her fictional son, Ismael Casillas.

Wednesday becomes a global sensation

Wednesday, the comedy-horror series from Tim Burton about the titular daughter of the Addams Family starring Jenna Ortega, made its highly anticipated debut on Netflix last week on November 23. In that time, the series has been well received by critics and has now even broken a Netflix viewing record! The show is now at the top of the list for the most viewed hours of a Netflix debut for an English-Language TV series at a staggering 341.2 million hours viewed in its first week.

The eight-episode series came in at #1 on the global Netflix Top 10 for the week of November 21 - November 27, with it reaching the top spot in 83 countries, a feat that has only been achieved by Season 4 of Stranger Things. The series was also featured in the Top 10 of all 93 countries tracked. Burton serves as both director and executive producer on the series with Alfred Gough and Miles Millar acting as executive producers, writers, and showrunners. Fellow executive producers include Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman, Gail Berman, Tommy Harper, and Kevin Lafferty.

Review: The Concept Of Boomerang And Cartoonito

Boomerang is family skewed brand owned by Warner Bros. Discovery is home to franchises such as Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes and Tom And Jerry and has experienced success with the likes like Mr. Bean, Ninja Express, Lamput and Zig & Sharko.

Outside of that lied a brand which craved attention and needed to better their offering to match that of the main network, Cartoon Network. Unfortunately, it only served as a runner up in its eyes as it fills it's lineup with gags and family infused movies.

Overseas, it is treated as a pushover while as other regions it is able to stand up its two feet. If you dive deeper onto, isn't it more like Comedy Central nowadays as both can keep viewers a certain capacity and lack the Netflix experience.

Netflix dwells on originality and there's plenty of quality and originals to go around while Boomerang just seems to make up the other portion of their hub and there enters Cartoonito.

Cartoonito seeks to reinvent Boomerang's dismal selection. Instead of relying on Movie Stars to build primetime, they want to use Thomas And Friends, Lucas The Spider, Moley and Dino Ranch to keep audiences occupied kind of similar to the main brand's approach in series.

It's led Boomerang to become a crossover between the two with most of its energy on preschool with shows like Mighty Mike, Masha And The Bear, Grizzly And The Lemmings and Legend Of Spark - another approach in reinventing or establishing a brand.

Which brings me to my final calling, Cartoonito seeing as it is taking away or reestablishing what was once a TCM of our generation. How much of the old Boomerang would reside in this new brand? How is anyone sure it won't wide up like Disney Junior?

Before Cartoonito, Disney Junior was a family based channel sure there was preschool but the previous incarnate had 101 Dalmatians: The Series, Emperor's New Groove and the original DuckTales now it's been reduced to Marvel's Spidey and Puppy Dog Pals.

Point being made, Boomerang was the only brand that could actually cater to preschool and family and Cartoonito is expanding further into the preschool portion only God knows how much of that will give anyone the future former brand.

Inside Warner Bros. Discovery EMEA’s Kids Content Strategy

As the industry descends upon Cannes once again for MIPJR & MIPCOM, TBI talks to leading kids commissioners to find out what they’re looking for in terms of originals and acquisitions and what they’ve already got coming up.

Here, Sean Henry, VP of content strategy & acquisitions, kids, Warner Bros. Discovery EMEA, shares the media giant’s interest in preschool content and diverse stories and picks out some of its key titles.

What’s on your kids & family commissioning wishlist at the moment? Are you open to pitches?

We believe that a strong kids & family business is essential for building a leading entertainment company – 75% of the world’s households have kids and we know that they spend across all touchpoints, whether it be in movie theatres, on consumer products or TV subscriptions.

Our own research tells us that households with kids provide great value to streaming services – not only do they watch more, but they are also less likely to churn than households without kids. That’s why we continue to be so committed to investing in kids and family content for our networks and our streaming services in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Our networks were watched in over 160 million households in EMEA last year, whilst HBO Max, HBO and Discovery+ have over 92 million subscribers worldwide. These brands provide an incredible platform for our world-famous IP to continue to delight our existing fans whilst engaging a brand new audience.

We’re open to pitches throughout the year, either in-person or remotely. We’re looking for preschool series to be part of our growing global Cartoonito brand, and animated series targeting boys and girls aged 6+ for Cartoon Network. Both brands are distributed via our network channels and HBO Max.

What upcoming shows are you most looking forward to? What is it about those projects that excites you?

We have an incredibly exciting upcoming slate of new content. We’ve increased our investment in preschool content and have been rolling out our preschool brand, Cartoonito, on our networks and on HBO Max this year.

Cartoonito offers a modern approach to preschool programming and is built to support each child’s unique potential with its educational framework, Humancentric Learning. It aims to inspire kids to use their imagination, to learn from their mistakes and to treat others with empathy and respect. Our best known and most loved IP are central to Cartoonito’s programming slate with brand new preschool series, Batwheels, Bugs Bunny Builders and Scooby Doo And The Mystery Pups all set to premiere in the future.

Meanwhile, Cartoon Network continues to go from strength to strength and this year, alongside returning seasons of fan favourites, Teen Titans Go and Craig Of The Creek, we’re excited to premiere a number of brand new series targeting 6 to 12 year old kids.

We Baby Bears, which follows Grizz, Panda and Ice Bear as they travel in a magical box to fantastic new worlds searching for a place to call home, premiered earlier this year and has already seen a tremendous response from our audience with impressive viewing figured to match.

The Heroic Quest of the Valiant Prince Ivandoe is the second series from Hannah-Barbera Studios Europe, the team behind the global phenomenon The Amazing World Of Gumball, and Cartoon Network’s first series to come out of Denmark. It tells the tale of Ivandoe, a delusional young prince who has embarked on an epically silly quest to Eagle Mountain in search of the legendary Golden Feather. It will be produced in partnership with Copenhagen-based Sun Creature Studio, who also produced the successful shorts. The series is set to launch on Cartoon Network in early 2023 and we are convinced our viewers are going to absolutely love it!

What is your acquisitions strategy? What are you looking for from acquired kids content?

We’re looking for stories and characters that will complement our owned original IP on Cartoonito and Cartoon Network. It’s essential that our audience sees stories, characters and settings that are relatable, recognisable and aspirational, and that reflect the diversity of our region and that’s why we’re committed to investing in content from Europe, Middle East and Africa.

We have slots to fill from 2025 onwards and are looking to build new, local IP over a number of seasons and years. If you have something you think we’d like then we’d love you to get in touch!
