Zeynep and Mehdi are back for drama on eExtra

Verdeelde Liefde follows the life of Zeynep a young woman whose mother gave her up for adoption in order to have a better life following her brother's death. By fate, she meets Mehdi who at one point from monster become the love of life.

The first season stars Demet Özdemir, Zuhal Gencer, Senan Kara, Fatih Koyunoglu, Elif Sönmez, Hülya Duyar, Naz Göktan, Incinur Dasdemir and Ibrahim Celikkol.

Season 1 is set to reach its climax by the end of the month with season 2 following immediately after the first season.

In season 2, Özlem accuses Sultan of stealing the money in Baris's room. Savas admits he took the money. Ali Riza gathers his family and goes to Sultan's house to apologize. Sultan accepts getting back to work.

Farewell to password sharing on Netflix

The time Netflix 'freeloaders' have long feared will soon arrive - password sharing will be banned by the end of March.

The company shared the news in a letter to shareholders, noting that 'widespread account sharing' has exceeded over 100 million viewers.

These individuals, however, will be able to transfer their profiles to a new paid account, allowing them to carry over their preferences.

Netflix said 2022 had been a 'tough year' due to its first subscriber loss in more than a decade - its customer base fell by 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter.

'Today's widespread account sharing undermines our long-term ability to invest in and improve Netflix, as well as build our business.' the company said in its letter.

'While our terms of use limit use of Netflix to a household, we recognize this is a change for members who share their account more broadly.'

New Series Alert: Om Elke Draai And The Rich Also Cry Coming To eVOD And Citizen TV Respectively

eVOD, a South African based streaming service owned by eMedia Investments home to various local productions and international content will be launching the long rumoured show to the platform titled Om Elke Draai (Her Yerde Sen).

Citizen TV which is known to selected East African audiences for its selection of telenovelas particularly Portuguese will be introducing a yet-to-be-seen TLNovelas program, The Rich Also Cry (Los Ricos También Lloran).

Om Elke Draai follows the story of a young man who buys a small architect company which is about to go bankrupt and buys his childhood house but eventually ends up sharing his house with his employee.

Om Elke Draai aired in Turkey between June to November 2019 with a total run 23 episodes each consisting of 2 hours while as The Rich Also Cry aired in Mexico last year between February to May with a total of 60 episodes each consisting of 45 minutes.

Both series are expected to be unveiled in the coming weeks.

New Series Alert: Ramo To Stream January 16th On eVOD

eVOD, a video streaming service that gives you access to local and international shows and movies, new original productions, documentaries, and much more will be uploading their first telenovela of 2023 which is none other than the rumoured crime drama Ramo.

The series tells the extraordinary story of Ramo, inspired by a real person, a man who goes against his superiors…It’s a story that encompasses the deep conflicts of family, justice, revenge, friendship and love.  The series stars Murat Yıldırım, Esra Bilgiç, İlker Aksum and Yiğit Özşener.

It premiered on Show TV during 2020 with a total of 40 episodes each consisting of 2 hours. Internationally, the series has been divided to 130 episodes each consisting of 45 minutes which is likely what everyone will be viewing on the streamer.

Ramo joins Soete Wraak and Camdaki Kiz as the only eVOD exclusives to not be made available for linear viewing in this case eExtra seeing as rebroadcasts from the platform surface on this channel.

New Series Alert (Rumour): Presenting The Five Turkish Dramas Rumoured To Rollout In South Africa

For reasons beyond my control, I can't disclose who picked up rights to the show or the timeframe for part of these shows but if you've been following my blog for sometime then you know my number 1 picks are on the Everyday Novelas section of my site.

Last year, I mentioned a couple of shows I'd recommend for certain brands part of it not giving percentages are rumoured content but as it is I can't share much details on anything just yet.

You browse a lot of content most of which haven't watched then you get directed to areas where you find 90% of the content there is already viewed with the remaining 10% awaiting release so here it is the 5 shows rumoured for the stations near you.

1. Söz (The Oath)

Yavuz, a well-trained Turkish soldier, is in Istanbul with his fiance where a terrorist operation takes place. Bahar, who is not a surgeon, tries to save his fiance. After this incident, Yavuz goes back to Karabayir and Bahar follows him all the way to give him something that belongs to him. The series stars Tolga Saritas, Meric Aral and Nihat Altinkaya.

2. Zemheri (Love Storm)

4. Ramo

The series will focus on the conflict between the two families and a great love that will flourish between this struggle. The series stars Murat Yıldırım, Esra Bilgiç, İlker Aksum and Yiğit Özşener.

Roundups #121: More Amazing World Of Gumball Coming Soon To Cartoon Network, Meet In Love Returning For A Second Season On Zee World And Also Returning For A Second Season Is The eVOD Original Production uMbali

The Amazing World might have been renewed for a season 7???

In September 2021, we learnt that Gumball was getting a movie and a series. Jump to present day and no details about these projects have been revealed. In fact, the movie's fate got worse as it was revealed to not be moving forward on HBO Max unless another streaming service picks it up.

Nothing had been stated about the series but there's now we have confirmation that new content is coming soon and it comes from an employee that works on Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe.

Here's what they say in a post on LinkedIn:

I'm excited and very proud to be series producing The Amazing World Of Gumball for a season 7 for Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe. Watch out for job opportunities in 2023.

But it just leads to further questions is this season 7 related to the new series or is it just a continuation of the original series.

Meet Hooda, a spirited young tomboyish girl from Haryana who is the sole breadwinner of her family but also breaks societal rule books of gender roles by serving as a delivery agent. Her father was a police officer who sacrificed his life while in service, due to which Meet takes up all the responsibilities of her house.

In the upcoming season which hails one year later Meet (now Manjari Desai) hails from Vadodara to find her baby. She is all set to take seek revenge from Manushi, Kunal and Masoom for taking away her family, husband and child.

In the season 2 debut, Mbali's sugar daddy Robert in jail and facing financial ruin, is kicked out of the plush mansion and plunged back into desperate poverty, where she must move back home and live with her mother and conceited sister.

Chrysalis follows Nalan a beautiful young woman who earns everyone's love at first sight with her warmth. As the only child of the family enlarged hand baby, baby roses, lived in the existence of life and Nalan graduated with honors the best schools, Turkey finds's largest hotel chain, which Koroglu company as an architect at running than himself Sedat Koroglu' with marriage Eve.

2022 is proving to be a productive year for the streamer after Is'phindiselo made its linear debut on e.tv pulling close to 2 million households with Umbrella Men being a main attraction at the Toronto International Film Festival. The streamer continues to ramp up its local offering with Gereza and Sliding Pieces.

Their entrepreneurs decide to take the law into their own hands after learning the truck carrying their government-awarded funds is going to be hijacked. Intent on plotting the most perfect heist within a heist, they spend time crafting their immaculate plan. But on the day of reckoning, it all spirals out of control when a high-speed car chase with the Metro Police ensues on the highway and forces them into Alexandra Township where they are all trapped.

New Series Alert: Mystery Drama Liar Currently Streaming On eVOD

Deniz (Burcin Terzioglu) is a beautiful young woman who works as a literature teacher. She has recently divorced from her husband Murat (Cemal Toktas) and tries her best to start a new life by herself.

Mehmet Emir, on the other hand, is a successful heart surgeon who is well respected and recognized in the society. He is a popular single dad who is rich, kind, and charismatic. After his wife committed suicide for an unknown reason, he has done his best to raise his son properly. He is a tenderhearted and disciplined father towards his son.

The lives of Deniz and Mehmet Emir intersect on various occasions. Deniz is the teacher at the school where Mehmet Emir’s son studies. At the same time, Mehmet Emir works at the hospital where Deniz’s sister works.

After Deniz officially gets divorced from her husband, she becomes a single young lady who is still unsure about getting back on the dating scene.

When she comes across to Mehmet Emir at the school yard, she initially rejects Mehmet Emir’s dating proposal.

Deniz’s elder sister Yasemin (Hazal Turesan) tries to persuade her sister. She speaks well about Mehmet Emir whom she works together with at the same hospital. She thinks that Mehmet Emir would be a perfect match for Deniz.

With the support of her sister, Deniz accepts Mehmet Emir’s dating proposal. They have a dinner at a fancy restaurant and enjoy their accompany.

After dinner, they walk together to Deniz’s house. Deniz wants to end the night without going another step further because she still does not feel ready to have a serious relationship. However, she does not.have nothing to do but to invite.Mehmet Emir to her house after it starts to rain and they could not find a taxi in the neighborhood.

The next day, Deniz wakes up at her bed and feels that something has gone wrong. She does not remember what has happened exactly throughout the night. However, she knows for sure that she is raped.

However, Mehmet Emir has a totally different story about that night. He sends a thank you message to Deniz and speaks well about the night.

When Deniz reports that she has been raped by Mehmet Emir, not only their lives but also the lives of their friends and families turn upside down. Truth and lies go hand in hand and both sides try to persuade others that their story is true. Nobody is sure who is a liar.

Liar (Yalanci) is about allegation of a rape case where both plaintiff and defendant try to persuade others that he/she is innocent. Who is the liar? Will Deniz remember the missing parts of that night? What will happen to their families and friends after Deniz reports that she has been raped by Mehmet Emir? Will Yasemin and Murat reveal their relationship?

The series is currently streaming on eVOD and might be made available for telecast on eExtra.

Could BBC Kids Likely Be Bundled Under MultiChoice's DStv Explora Ultra And If Possible eMedia Investments' eVOD Streaming Service?

BBC Kids is an international kids channel owned by BBC Studios that supplies content to children aged 6-11. Just like it's British counterpart, it also comes in the form of a linear channel which is very much accessible in Australia and offers content from its preschool counterpart CBeebies.

During the year, BBC Studios unveiled plans to make CBBC a digital brand of course it hasn't been stated whether this will have an effect on the linear counterpart in Australia but as seen in various territories such as United States and South Africa they're very much viewable digitally.

This past week, MTN unveiled BBC Kids a mobile app carrying 100 hours of content featuring shows such as JoJo & Gran Gran (44 x 11 minutes) and Studio AKA’s Hey Duggee (142 x seven minutes), as well as older skewing shows such as 2D-animated comedy The Bagel and Becky Show and live-action sketch comedy Horrible Histories.

Of course, BBC Kids isn't available to the likes of MultiChoice's DStv Explora Ultra, or eMedia Investments' eVOD streaming service and might not be added to these platforms for the foreseeable future.

MTN already formed a partnership with eMedia Investments' eVOD streaming service when it rolled out within the market while as MultiChoice supplies a hand of channels from BBC Studios including BBC Brit, BBC Lifestyle, BBC World News, BBC Earth and CBeebies.

But as the deal stipulates BBC Kids can only be viewed on Switch Media through MTN but that could change at any given moment. Although, they have digital brands to BBC Kids that doesn't include the linear version of course chances of that seem highly unlikely with the pricing of the brand.

September is full of premieres for telenovela lovers specifically for those viewing on eExtra as the channel will be rolling out 4 new Turkish series with one likely to not be Afrikaans dubbed with Telemundo and TLNovelas rolling out just 1 series for audiences within the month.

New Series:
- Soete Wraak - Follows the story of two people who were together in college. Sinan has fallen in love with Pelin but he rejected his feelings and insulted her in front of all. They two meet each other again after many years and Pelin asks Sinan for help to change her fate and the situation brings them together. Pelin and Sinan both are in love, but faces many consequences. Currently streaming on eVOD.

- The Sisterhood - three sisters who grew up unaware of each other receive a mysterious letter one day and meet at the wedding of one of them. Nickelodeon reportedly cancels another series

Nickelodeon has reportedly decided to cancel and not renew Warped! for a second season. The news follows the network not renewing Side Hustle for a third season last month. The news comes from TV insider Matt Webb Mitovich at TVLine, however, has yet to be confirmed by Nickelodeon.

In Warped!, Milo, the beloved head geek at a popular strip-mall comic book shop, Warped!, finds his world disrupted when his boss hires a new employee. With the quirky and excitable Ruby now on the payroll, the two form an unlikely alliance to create the world’s greatest graphic novel. Joining them in their adventures are Darby, a smart and fashion-forward friend who is always there to lend a hand, and Hurley, a neighboring pizza shop employee who spends his time coming up with brilliant culinary creations.

More TLNovelas shows swing to Africa

During the past week, it was reported that TLNovelas would begin airing the second instalment to the Overcoming franchise titled Overcoming Heartbreak now there's reports that another African region would air the third instalment, Overcoming The Past.

The series follows four women who try to overcome misfortunes. Realizing that what is posted on social media is never erased, they must find a solution to live in the present and focus on a positive future if they want to overcome past obstacles.

It stars an ensemble cast lead by Angelique Boyer, Sebastián Rulli, Erika Buenfil, Africa Zavala, Manuel "Flaco" Ibáñez, Leticia Perdigón, Ferdinando Valencia, and Horacio Pancheri.

Zee One which serves a duplicate channel to Zee World airing mostly already seen content will be airing another former Zee World drama series titled Curse Of The Sands (Manmohini) starring Reyhna Malhotra, Giaa Manek, Ankit Siwach and Garima Singh Rathore.

Curse Of The Sands follows a witch named Mohini has waited for her unrequited love of 500 years, Rana Saa, who has been reborn as Ram. Ram is a businessman who lives with his wife, Siya, and his half brother, Vivian. Ram and Siya were on the verge of divorce. However, when Siya learns of Mohini, she decides not to divorce Ram to save him.

Season 1 commences this Friday 26 August on Zee One.

The cast of John Barker's 'The Umbrella Men', a South African crime comedy that will be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival next month.

John Barker’s 15-year labour of love is heading to the Toronto International Film Festival in Canada next month.

The film, The Umbrella Men, is the director’s fifth feature film. It premiered on eTV’s streaming platform Evod in June.

“Toronto was such a long shot, but we submitted it anyway and I’m so happy that it’s been selected. This is great for South Africa, I’m so proud and honoured that we got in,” Barker said.

The comedy heist film is about a group of musicians who are forced to rob a bank during the annual Cape Town Minstrel Carnival to save their nightclub.

After returning to the city for his estranged father’s funeral, musician Jerome Adams, played by Jaques de Silva, finds out that his father bequeathed him his “Ghoema Club” and minstrel troupe, The Umbrella Men.

A dodgy deal engineered by family rival Tariq Cupido, played by Abduraghman Adams, means Jerome has two weeks to repay the club’s bank debt or risk repossession. Using the carnival as a cover when thousands of people take to the streets, Jerome decides to rob the bank.

The Umbrella Men was filmed in Cape Town’s Bo-Kaap, regarded as the home of the Kaapse Klopse or Cape minstrels. Through the film Barker shares his fascination with the culture and authentically depicts a marginalised, often misrepresented people.

For many who find themselves in the city during the end-of-year holiday, attending the Tweede Nuwe Jaar (Second New Year) or Cape Town Minstrel Carnival is quite the event. The parade takes place every year on January 2 and sees thousands of “klopse” take to the streets in colourful and extravagant attire.

With faces painted, they march through the streets singing and dancing to the ghoema (hand drum) and instruments such as tambourines, trumpets and banjos.

For Barker, the international exposure is validation for a project dear to his heart and an opportunity to share this unique culture.

“This is a huge international festival and the eyeballs on the film will be great exposure for the film and the actors. I’m also excited for the Bo-Kaap community and the minstrels to be seen around the world,” he said.

The film festival runs from September 8 to 18 and attracts more than 400,000 people annually. The Umbrella Men is scheduled for two press and four public screenings.

Earlier in the year, eMedia Investments picked up Die Kontrak formerly seen on Via for a second season on eExtra which stopped airing such content as the content couldn't obtain enough viewers but after almost 3 years the channel gets back in the game.

'Die Kontrak' is the popular TV talent search program where a record contract from the prestigious Coleske group can be released. The program premiered in 2018 and Demi Lee Moore was announced as the winner.

Die Kontrak airs weekly on eExtra at 18:30 from 21 August with repeats available to stream on eVOD and to binge on e.tv every Saturday at 18:00.

eVOD Has Been Credited In Latest Annual Results From MultiChoice Group

MultiChoice and eMedia Investments have been in an on/off relationship following the dispute in regard to the 4 e.tv channels. As seen in May, the channels went dark on DStv without notice only for the Competition Tribunal to look back on their final notion following pending investigation.

During that time, MultiChoice had managed to find the necessary alternatives with kykNET's Turkish offering on kykNET & Kie, DreamWorks, KIX and Movie Room all of which have managed to perform at their best capacity but not enough to fill the void left by the e.tv channels.

For those who've been following eMedia's stations for a while may have heard of eVOD I mean who wouldn't have heard of it as it is the only known outlet to stream the bulk of content some of which haven't aired any of eMedia's channels.

It was speculated the only reason eVOD wasn't added onto the Explora Ultra had to do with the ongoing feud between eMedia Investments and MultiChoice in regard to DTT and the carriage fees for their channels as other brands like the SABC are said to be earning more with just SABC News.

But as MultiChoice outlined in their recent annual results, they plan to add more streaming services even crediting various entities that haven't been seen on the Explora Ultra like Acorn TV and eVOD.

Taking that to account, could you say that eVOD will likely be bundled under the Explora Ultra perhaps as a replacement to e.tv's 4 channels as the channels only returned as part of a technicality and aren't must carry channels like SABC 1-3.

Programming Alert: Fatmagul Swept Off eVOD's Kuiertyd Section

eVOD has been making adjustments to their offering for several months now which is common for most beginners as the platform expands its offering and consumer base with the likes of Microblast TV, 360 Sport and the existing content packaged onto their eMedia's stations.

Fatmagul, one of eMedia's very few English dubbed shows on top of being the first and loved show by audiences of the brand. As seen in those past months, the popular Turkish series was slotted with other dramas in the Afrikaans section of eVOD despite not being Afrikaans itself.

It led to a lot of speculation on what would become of non Afrikaans dubbed Turkish shows but taking these recent adjustments to account it's safe to say where it's fate might like should eMedia opt to rectify that mistake.

At launch, eMedia had a slot for their Korean and Bollywood offering some of which have been viewed on eExtra and with these adjustments the slot had expanded to International Dramas where you get more out of the usual two like Johnny Vs. Amber, Madiba and Tainted Love Leke.

Fatmagul would fit perfectly in that section as opposed to Afrikaans section which carries a lot of limitations but I'm not judging its presence there but most who do browse that section would expect 100% Afrikaans when you can't expect the same from Mzansi Magic.

Instead of redirecting shows (as eMedia will never advertise changes) rather just keep Fatmagul where its currently seen and duplicate it onto sections of the platform and see how far it gets from there.
