Limpopo TV: Another DStv Reject, Pending Approval From StarSat And Possibly Rolling Out On Go Digital SA

Limpopo TV founded by Larry Matlala is a non-profit provincial entertainment channel featuring content such as news, lifestyle and drama series that speaks to the people of Limpopo.

The channel launched amidst a pandemic with several original productions underway as well as a ton of baggage regarding availability. At the moment, one would need to tinker with the settings of their decoder to view it in the public channel area.

Getting back to the present, there's some new info that was shared by the channel on their social pages regarding the very topic mentioned earlier availability and I think it's best people who don't rely on these platforms for such things learn about this new info as well.

According to them, MultiChoice has a new business model and community based channels don't fall under criteria so they won't be adding anymore community channels. The question remains on what fate awaits the remaining community stations.

Since last year, those channels excluding (Tshwane TV and GauTV) have been working on actual content by that I mean local dramas and not repeats from free-to-air broadcasters like SABC. Is it possible maybe these won't always be a complete waste for viewers?

That section has always been degraded and lurked under every other channel's shadow for its low commissions and presentation.

StarSat had Limpopo TV in the testing area for a couple of years and around the official launch it vanished into thin year. According to the channel, the platform didn't meet their end of the bargain so they had to pull out for the time being.

Despite the outcomes, Limpopo TV is pulling through as they've started teasing their potential rollout through Go Digital SA decoders (or SABC's DTT) likely through the public channel settings as seen with DStv.

Limpopo TV Launches On OpenView This December???

Limpopo TV launched back in October as the province first commercial channel offering content that is created, delivered and produced by talent of the province.

The channel failed to materialize on other platforms as promised earlier in the year which angered a lot of potential fans and damaged a bit of the channel's image.

Through a media enquiry, OpenView denied the allegation made about the channel's launch on their platform. Now Limpopo TV started advertising their launch on OpenView this December.

Like I mentioned earlier, Limpopo TV hasn't started out on a good note and they're a tad unorganised on top of everything. If it does launch hopefully you'll see none of that.

OpenView and e.tv have also been lurking around that area as they've been silent with the media on upcoming attractions which led some media outlets to maintain some distance from the brand.

Limpopo TV's Channel Address: The Status, The Availability, Content And More

"As Limpopo provincial government we are delighted to welcome Limpopo Television as our newest addition to our important media of family platforms. We congratulate the team and the brains behind this very important concept. We want to ensure you that our government support this initiative and will work with you to ensure that Limpopo TV becomes a resounding success. We are confident that Limpopo TV will become a reliable partner in informing our communities, educate our people and entertain the masses of our province. Limpopo TV is a concept and an idea whose time is now. We believe that the TV station will add the much needed value and diversity to the existing media platforms in the province. As a first and only TV station in the province, Limpopo TV is expected to play the role of a part finder and a trailblazer...We are here to assure you that you won't be on your own in this part finding journey, we are with you and will support you throughout, we welcome Limpopo TV to this beautiful Limpopo province...," Mr. Mathaba said.

Larry Matlala, CEO of Limpopo TV answered some fan mail and addressed a couple of things:
- Limpopo TV is an actual channel, the Facebook channel as some followers call it has a studio, cameras and lights, you can find it if you scan your decoder.
- Limpopo TV is free-to-air meaning they don't charge monthly fees.
- Limpopo TV recorded a couple of content during the lockdown.
- Limpopo TV is accepting content and hasn't ignored any applications. They'll only be accepting Limpopo based languages.
- Why can't Limpopo TV be like all the other channels and appear on MultiChoice's DStv? From 2019, they've been engaging with service providers, telling them they want to bring them to their platform. Those service providers are uncertain about the channel's status as it's still a new channel and they don't know whether they're reliable, sustainable or be around for that long.
- Will Limpopo TV be added onto DStv? Yes, they're still in talks with them and they have been addressing it on Twitter. MultiChoice has been calling applicants on possible new channels and this will be Limpopo TV's third application to them hopefully they'll be sharing the good news soon. If it's added you can still find it on the public channels area (Another applicant that might have secured a spot is SA Youth TV which will likely be up and running by next year and not 2020 thanks to the pandemic).
- Limpopo TV on OpenView? They're at 90% with them so hopefully they'll share those details soon.
- With the government provided STB? They're still checking with them but they'll likely roll it out as well so people with those decoders don't need to ask questions there.

Limpopo TV Might Launch On OpenView Really Soon, No News On Whether DStv Or Starsat Will Be Adding It Soon

Limpopo's first ever TV channel launched in the beginning of October offering quality programming from shows that are created, delivered and produced by talent from the province.

There's been a lot of hype about the channel's presence on DStv, Starsat and OpenView in the beginning of the year through other people and the channel themselves. Even viewers with Starsat where able to view the channel without changing settings before the channel disappeared.

After the launch of Limpopo TV you could only access if you unlock the public channels on your decoder. The channel's media handler did mention that they are in negotiations with several service providers.

So far it looks like OpenView is one of the confirmed service providers. The channel founder mentioned that:
We are at the Final Stages of our Negotiations with the Provider and we will wait for them to Release the News first then we will also Share.

The channel might pop up on Starsat and DStv but viewers will likely get it later as both providers are still rolling out more channels in the coming months maybe they'll be able to squeeze this one in as an added bonus like they were suppose to do with the long awaited channel, SABC Education.
