Roundups #125: Avatar To Return With New Animated Series On Nickelodeon, Eternal Love Rebroadcast Coming Soon To Star Life And SABC Plans To Launch Indigenous News Channel In 2023

Third Avatar instalment in the works at Paramount

Get ready to show off your element-bending skills as Paramount+ is brewing a new Avatar animated series. The show is slated for a 2025 release and will feature an ‘earth Avatar’ after Aang and Korra. There is also a report that an animated movie will arrive in theaters after the series comes out and will have the same Avatar as the show.

Avatar Studios is building its own universe now, and with many projects booked and planned ahead, there is going to be no shortage of Avatar content for fans. An adult Aang movie is reportedly coming to theaters on October 10, 2025, as well as the much-anticipated on-demand series. Both will be released in the same year – a major launch for the studio.

The movie will be Avatar Studios’ first-ever project, hence this implies that it will come before the animated series, followed by the animated movie. Fans should also not forget that there is a live-action young Aang series coming in 2023.

Eternal Love revolves around the lives of Dr. Rohit Sippy and Sonakshi Rastogi, two completely different individuals belonging to completely different worlds unaware of the fact that their worlds, though poles apart, are meant to collide.

It is an Indian romantic drama television series that aired from 17 June 2019 to 14 March 2020 on StarPlus. Produced by Sandiip Sikcand under SOL Productions, it starred Karan Grover and Dipika Kakar as lead actors.

The series aired on the channel in 2021 and makes a comeback as part of The Best Of Star Life from January 9 replacing Forbidden Love.

Second SABC News channel reportedly in development

SABC News has been exclusive to DTT and MultiChoice's DStv platform giving viewers insights on what's happening in South Africa and across the world. Despite having a bit of rivalry with eNCA remains as another valuable brand to the market.

As seen within their bulletins, it was revealed that the public broadcaster wants to launch its 7th TV channel by next year probably before March which serves as an expansion to the current SABC News Channel offering multilingual content and a possible replacement to SABC Parliament.

Of course, the public broadcaster fails to mention where they'll get the necessary funds to go on such a venture. My guess is the channel will serve as one of the upcoming channels for Openview (Openview Ultra, grain of salt) and DStv.

My guess seeing as this channel may not be tied down like the SABC News Channel is that it will be crawling with repeats from SABC 1-3 possibly dubbed and offer primetime news for about 2 hours.

SABC:
- Reviewing major changes coming soon to the SABC
- TelkomOne's transition into SABC+

Former StarSat Channel Home To Inside The Factory And Air Warriors Is Closing Down In The UK

The Smithsonian Channel is an international channel operated by Paramount Global which is home to factual shows such as Inside the Factory, How Did They Build That?, WWII Battles in Color, Air Warriors, Ocean Super Predators and many more.

The channel was available in Africa alongside Love Nature a while back on StarSat as a replacement to National Geographic and National Geographic Wild as the pay-tv platform got into a bit of a disagreement with their suppliers, The Walt Disney Company.

Prior to that, The Smithsonian Channel was also allocated on the East African platform Zuku TV but I prefer to credit StarSat since consumers are more familiar with the platform.

Anyways, The Smithsonian Channel what can I say I'm not too familiar with the brand and I only knew of existence when it was introduced by StarSat but what was more shocking was that it's owned by Paramount that are home to various popular brands most of which are on DStv.

But considering how they screwed over VH1 I'm the least bit shocked that they'd be another channel lurking around the same corner.

StarSat:
Delayed SABC channel launch on StarSat explained
Russia Today to launch South African hub
StarSat trying to be DStv friendly
BYUtv should be added onto StarSat
StarSat to offer more African dubbed telenovelas
Could StarSat be losing two more channels?

From what I can establish no actual reason was given for The Smithsonian Channel's exit in the African market my guess on StarSat has to do with costs as they've scrapped over 40 channels most of which weren't even replaced to date.

But considering the times both Love Nature and The Smithsonian Channel both left the platform it's possible that may not be the case as Zuku TV fell prey to similar circumstance.

During the week, officials announced the exit of The Smithsonian Channel in the UK with consumers having to rely on Paramount+ for more factual entertainment which has just got me thinking. Is it possible that the termination in Africa may have something to do with what's already seen in the UK?

I mean I kind of suggested that theory a while back that The Smithsonian Channel's demise had to do with streamlining efforts.

I've got nothing to say about The Smithsonian Channel except for the fact that a lot of viewers depend on the channel but I think part of the reason it got scrapped had to do with the rivalry with National Geographic and Discovery both of which offer similar entertainment.

The Walt Disney Company:
- The Good Doctor getting a female led spinoff
- King Kong Series in development
- The Walt Disney Company to extend the reach of Star Channel
- DStv Streama now offers Disney+
- List of scrapped spinoffs for The Simpsons
- Disney Television Animation unveils Kiff!

National Geographic is about to undergo a similar fate leaving Discovery and from what I've seen Curiosity and BBC Earth to cater for these audiences or at least in Africa.

Paramount+ besides carrying content from The Smithsonian Channel will also leverage from MTV, BET, Nickelodeon, CBS and many more. Although I have yet see them streamline their linear offering I had noticed that they've been closing irrelevant or non-performing channels.

The Smithsonian Channel was neither but I do feel it's presence on Paramount+ will help the brand gain more acknowledgement.

Roundups #112: Monster High Renewed For Second Season, A Ninth Instalment To Harry Potter Might Be On The Cards And Pirates Of The Caribbean Reboot Practically Dead

Nickelodeon welcomes back a returning show

Fangtastic! Monster High has been renewed for a second season at Nickelodeon. The decision comes just weeks after the first season premiered on the network. That first season has yet to wrap, but now the network is expressing strong faith in the series by giving a go-ahead for another year at the titular high school. This is a good sign for the Mattel toy franchise (upon which the series is based), which recently relaunched its line of iconic toys, giving a revamped look to its beloved characters.

Season 1 introduced us to the teenage kids of some famous monsters as they begin a new school season at the eponymous school. At the center are the quartet of ghouls, Clawdeen Wolf, Draculaura, Frankie Stein, and Deuce Gorgon, who in addition to their academics, are seen developing their social and personal lives by learning to discover who they are and embracing their unique identity, while surmounting every obstacle to stand out as fierce and fearless beasts.

According to a report, the second season will look to further develop each of these characters and explore their background while "expanding on the theme of friendship." While season one contained 26 episodes, the sophomore season will include 20 episodes.

The Wizarding World won't be around for at least until couple of years

After the failure of the Fantastic Beasts film series, Warner Bros. Discovery is reportedly looking to move forward with a movie adaptation of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

The Wizarding World has experienced its own ups and downs through the years, but its momentum slowed down after Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 ended Daniel Radcliffe's on-screen adventure as the titular wizard in 2011.

Although the Fantastic Beasts movies did return to Hogwarts and even feature Albus Dumbledore in a significant role, some fans pointed out that it didn't have the same magic that the Harry Potter films translated on-screen despite it managing to expand its world and history.

Disney silently cancels Pirates Of The Caribbean

Disney has pulled the plug on its Pirates of the Caribbean spinoff led by Margot Robbie.

“We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it,” Robbie said in a an interview.

“We are developing two Pirates scripts—one with her, one without,” sources told the paper at the time.

Even though her Pirates spinoff fell through, Robbie has plenty on her plate. She will be promoting her upcoming film Babylon from Whiplash, La La Land and First Man director Damian Chazelle. She’ll also soon start filming an Ocean’s Eleven prequel, and of course, coming next summer is the much talked about Barbie movie.

Roundups #106: Rihanna To Make Her Comeback To The Music Industry In Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Monster High: The Sequel In Development At Nickelodeon And A Script For A Second Season To Telemundo's The End Of Paradise Is Said To Be In Development

Rihanna to release a new single dedicated to Chadwick Boseman

Apparently the rumors are true: Rihanna is back with new music thanks to Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Rihanna is releasing two songs for the movie, which both show up in the end credits. The first song is called “Lift Me Up” and will be released on Friday morning.

“Lift Me Up” is set to come out at midnight ET on the morning of Oct. 28, according to a tweet from Rihanna on Thursday. The song will show up on most major streaming platforms including Spotify, Tidal, Amazon Music, and Apple Music.

The popstar’s other song for the movie is called “Born Again,” but it’s unclear if that one will get an early release as well. This music comes as the first preview of the Black Panther sequel’s soundtrack. The accompanying album for the first movie, which included songs curated by Kendrick Lamar, turned out to be enormously popular in its own regard, with multiple hits including “All the Stars” which received several Grammy nominations and Academy Award nomination for Best Original Song.

Monster High: The Sequel has been greenlit

Nickelodeon's recent hit Monster High: The Movie, a musical based on Mattel's popular line of toys. is getting a new sequel in partnership with Mattel Television.

The toy franchise - which debuted in 2010 with a popular line of dolls and accessories inspired by classic horror movie monsters and creatures like Frankenstein, Dracula, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon - has inspired a number of related media and merchandise, including web series, games, and a YA book series. Nickelodeon's recent Monster High: The Movie was released earlier this month and directed by Todd Holland.

As reported by Deadline, the sequel will begin production in Vancouver in January and will be ready to air on Nickelodeon and Paramount Plus in time for Halloween 2023. The Monster High film follows Clawdeen Wolf (Miia Harris) as she arrives at Monster High with a dark secret. With the help of her friends Draculaura (Nayah Damasen) and Frankie Stein (Ceci Balagot), she is able to embrace her true monster heart and save the school from total destruction. The film also stars Case Walker, Kyle Selig, Marci T. House, Scotch Ellis Loring, Steve Valentine, Jy Prishkulnik, Lina Lecompte, Justin Derickson, Lilah Fitzgerald and Nasiv Sall.

The End Of Paradise getting a season 2???

In an exclusive interview with People en Español, Carmen Villalobos and Gregorio Pernía have confirm that few chapters have been written for The End of Paradise Season 2.

This is coming after the writer of the story, Gustavo Bolivar came to comment weeks ago in a live broadcast on Instagram that 10 chapters had been written.

After the hasty and open ending of the successful Telemundo saga, The Way to Paradise with The End of Paradise, the followers of the story did not lose hope that there could be a new season to close the plots that were left unfinished.

But now, Gregorio Pernía who gave life to 'El Titi' in the aforementioned story confirms to People en Español "What if there were some scripts written? Yes, there were like 10 scripts written" However, Pernía sees it very difficult for those chapters to be produced since each of the actors who were part of the saga have embarked on new professional paths.

Big Nate, The Long-Awaited Animated Series On Nicktoons Africa Likely Scrapped As Paramount Continues Alienating The Channel

Nicktoons is an international kids channel owned by Paramount which is home to various animation from Nickelodeon archives and so far one of the few feeds to supply preschool content as part of nameless block (formerly Nick Jr) to viewers across Africa on the DStv platform.

Since 2022, Paramount has alienated themselves from Nicktoons with the channel providing outdated EPGs, borrowing Nickelodeon's current programming and even advertising shows like Kamp Koral despite not being made accessible to the channel.

Aside from that it seems Paramount puts more effort towards Nickelodeon and Nick Jr as both had a recent site of new content. On top of that, various exclusive Nicktoons series such as ALVINNN!!! And The Chipmunks and Peppa Pig have all been redirected to the two channels.

This year, the only memorable thing was that 30th anniversary for SpongeBob on which he learnt how to speak Zulu. Aside from that, there hasn't been much to boast unless you include MultiChoice's 2021 upfront on which Big Nate was unveiled as an upcoming series.

And also the same upfront which unveiled an upcoming attraction for the now defunct Lifetime channel from A+E Networks.

Based on the comic book strip, Big Nate follows the life of a rebellious sixth grader Nate Wright alongside his friends who get themselves in all kinds of situations one of which includes his arch enemy Mrs. Godfrey who he considers "the School's Godzilla".

The series aired earlier in the year and since then further additional episodes were ordered taking it to season 2 on Paramount+. On which viewers across Africa will be able to access by early 2023 but based on what's seen on Nicktoons is Big Nate still an option for them.

Paramount has been reviewing their entertainment offering across the region which led to further scaling back of channels. In Latin America, Nicktoons was replaced with NickMusic while BET became a digital brand with further content now streaming on Paramount+.

With the streamer scheduled to rollout in Africa by early 2023 questions amount to the fate of their linear offering. I mean no one is expecting for them to pull a House Of House but the recent sightings internationally has lead us to believe the same is awaiting African consumers.

Nicktoons could be a result of those remifications I mean would anyone be that outraged if the channel were to be discontinued and fold under Paramount+. As it is the channel is more of a Nickelodeon Extra than a complimentary brand like preschool oriented Nick Jr.

The channel's lineup features mainly content that recently ended on Nickelodeon such as It's Pony, Lego City Adventures, The Casagrandes with a few exemptions like SpongeBob SquarePants, The Loud House (M.I.A.) and if it's still ongoing Middlemost Post.

Digital First: Rebranding Of MTV Asia To MTV 90s

Paramount is scheduled to roll out their streaming service Paramount+ in Africa alongside various other markets by 2023 and as seen with Disney+ their streaming service has led to a further cutback in channels with questions regarding Paramount's linear offering.

I know Paramount had stated a while back that they weren't planning to halt their linear offering as seen with The House Of Mouse. But that doesn't mean they won't do it eventually as they make some minor changes to the current offering.

In the UK, BET became a digital exclusive and Nicktoons is seen as music channel (NickMusic) in Latin America outside of that Paramount has been eliminating a lot of channels mainly MTV as they're said to carry outdated content or don't have a lot of viewers following them.

Unfortunately this wasn't the case in Asia as Sky announced the rebrand of MTV Asia which will now be MTV 90s a music channel from 1st September. This comes after Nickelodeon exited South Korea a few months ago and that just builds onto further speculation.

Is it possible that MTV and Nickelodeon's future in Asia will be the same fate awaiting consumers around the world. It's possible as evolution is a constant you had your VCR now there's DVD and not a lot of people SMS as there's social media.

Regarding MTV, I can see many reasons for Paramount to let go off the channel one cause compared to other general entertainment channels MTV holds more original content which a company like Disney would want to put onto a streaming service.

Compared to BET and Comedy Central as there's not much on there I mean you get plenty of original content but it doesn't dominate the schedule as seen with MTV. Not saying there's no chance of them going away but the less relevant a brand gets the more easier it will be to miss.

Roundups #79: Eragon Live-Action Series In Development For Disney+, iCarly Renewed On Paramount+ For Season 3 And Upcoming Disney Channel Series Hamster And Gretel Gets Season 2 Renewal

Eragon coming to Disney+

Disney+ is developing a live-action television series adaptation of Eragon, based on Christopher Paolini’s popular YA book series The Inheritance Cycle. Eragon is the first book in the series.

Paolini will co-write the series and executive produce with Bert Salke executive producing via his Co-Lab 21 banner as part of his deal with Disney Television Studios. 20th Television is the studio.

In the series adaptation, a teenage boy becomes magically joined with a newly-hatched dragon. Together, they must learn what it means to be dragon and Rider as they fight in the resistance against a tyrannical king.

iCarly remains active

iCarly fans can breathe easy: It appears the major Creddie cliffhanger at the end of Season 2 will be resolved. Paramount+ said Wednesday that it has renewed the hit revival series iCarly for a third season. Production will get underway later this year for a 2023 premiere on Paramount+.

The original iCarly series, produced by Nickelodeon, ran from 2007-2012. Starring Cosgrove, Trainor, Kress and Jennette McCurdy, it followed a group of best friends creating a webcast while grappling with everyday problems and adventures. During its original run, iCarly became a pop-culture staple and regularly broke viewership records among audiences of all ages.

iCarly is produced by Nickelodeon Studios and is executive produced by Ali Schouten-Seeks (Young & Hungry, Diary of a Future President) and Cosgrove, with Schouten serving as showrunner. Trainor, Kress and Alissa Vradenburg (The Simple Life) serve as producers.

Upcoming show gets season 2 on Disney Channel

Hamster And Gretel is the upcoming new cartoon on Disney Afternoon Mornings on Disney Channel along with Big City Greens,Amphibia,The Owl House Specials,The Ghost And Molly McGee and Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur and we have more exclusive news

3 months ago series writter Jim Bernstein confirmed that the series will debut in 2022 after that we got contacted by Jim and he told us thats the expected date for the crew to air, but the month and day is still to be decided by Disney.

Yesterday Dan Povenmire answered some questions on Tik Tok where he answered that the series is coming in 2022, however month is still to be decided, our best bet is Fall 2022 like The Ghost And Molly McGee with a Season 2 Renewal, Chibi Tiny Tales, Soundtrack, Guest Star List and Disney Channel FanShop Merch.

Nicktoons Africa Could Be On The Chopping Block

Nicktoons is a kids channel currently owned by Paramount and ranked top performing channel for its ability to differentiate from other Nicktoons channel which have been dependant on Nickelodeon for most of their programming.

In detail, Nicktoons was no different to other feeds in terms of programming despite being reruns most of the content like Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold! and The Ren And Stimpy Show where sidetracked for current series on Nickelodeon.

Over the years, Paramount had attempted to differentiate the offering from sister channels Nickelodeon and Nick Jr but sourcing out third party shows like My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Horrid Henry and the short-lived Pokémon: Sun And Moon.

Even went on to get various Nick originals like Double Dare or Paradise Bay onto the channel and curated a 22 minute series based on the brand, NickMusic.

But as seen by several consumers like myself the channel appears to be lifeless at this point almost as if Paramount is ready throw in the towel with Paramount+ scheduled for an early 2023 rollout.

Paramount had been merging and cutting back on localised feeds. Not to take out the fact there have been channel closures as seen in Japan earlier in the year and I remembered Nicktoons Africa is also a localised feed.

I get that isn't guarantee enough about the possible demise of this iconic brand but you notice several faulty things about the channel.

Take for instance, the graphic designs weren't they aligned with the U.S. at one point only for it to mysteriously revert back to the designs seen internationally and you'll obviously won't get a reason for that.

The promos regarding upcoming developments look identical to Nickelodeon aside from them hosting similar festivities with Nicktoons getting less of the pie with its focus on animation.

Notice how The Casagrandes learnt to speak German between breaks mixed with English which is all kinds of confusion I get we all got to multitask but in all my years I've never seen someone speak two different languages at the same time.

Another signal to termination would be programming, I noticed everything on the channel except NickMusic is either current perhaps to Nickelodeon or cancelled like Horrid Henry with series like ALVINNN!!! And The Chipmunks now treated as a Nickelodeon exclusive.

Nicktoons had an upcoming show lined up as announced in the MultiChoice Showcase titled Big Nate but from the looks of it don't be surprised if it moved over to Nickelodeon as the channel became a reruns graveyard with the fate of NickMusic up in the air.

I don't think NickMusic is done for perhaps it will move over to Nickelodeon or MTV Base.

The idea of Nicktoons being phased out doesn't seem far fetched I mean these months Nicktoons appears to be somewhat of a timeshift or catch-up to Nickelodeon as some of the content air at the exact same time just a different season.

The Nick Jr block which has been used in an attempt to boost Nicktoons offering is also on Nickelodeon again sufficient evidence for Paramount to call it quits with the channel.

Paramount+ will be rolling out early in 2023 and we'll basically see past content from Nickelodeon and Nick Jr which was the whole point of Nicktoons making the brand obsolete at this point.

Nickelodeon To Cease Operation In South Korea

Paramount and AMC International have begun reviewing their linear offering and with the ongoing rollout of Paramount+. The CBS channels currently seen across Europe are phasing out CBS brand with CBS Reality said to remain as they're likely working on a name.

Paramount Network has even seen a decline internationally as most Paramount wents to seperate the linear from the streaming which resulted in several closures or replacements for the brand.

During the week, it was also reported that more Asian viewers will lose Nickelodeon by the end of June following its closure in Japan earlier in the year with several shows like Paw Patrol, SpongeBob SquarePants, The Loud House and Danger Force streaming on Paramount+.

Nickelodeon had been available to the market for nearly 17 years as part of a joint venture with SBS Medianet and Paramount Networks EMEA. The demise of Nickelodeon means viewers lost out on another major kids brand following Disney Channel's closure last year.

As mentioned, Paramount will be rolling out their streaming service in more regions and although they don't plan to halt all their linear offering just yet. There has been cutbacks part of which include several localised feeds or channels with too much old content.

AMC International Giving Their Channels Weird Names Ahead Of Paramount+ Launch In Africa By 2023

Paramount+ is a streaming service owned by the company of the same name (without +) that is home to brands like Paramount Network, CBS (CBS Drama, CBS Justice and Horror Channel), Showtime, Comedy Central, MTV, BET, The Smithsonian Channel, Nickelodeon and Nick Jr.

As some consumers are aware Paramount will be rolling out their streaming service by 2023 in the Middle East and Africa and question loomed in regard to the linear offering across the world.

Although the company had no intentions of ending their linear operations that doesn't exclude the possible reduction or restructure to their portfolio as seen in the UK with their CBS channels this past week.

AMC International formed a joint venture with the company for CBS Reality, CBS Justice, CBS Drama and Horror Channel since 2012 under the brand Chellomedia and even before and after becoming majority stakeholder the channels had a share of repeats.

After nearly a decade, the CBS channels would be laid to rest by the end of June as Paramount is scrapping the CBS branding since they'll be present on Paramount+ kind of like what they did with the Paramount Network and in doing so comes the new names.

Update: CBS Reality will remain the same for now but there's more to the story as there's a channel that goes by the name Reality in the UK. In other developments, CBS Reality will be getting an additional channel Reality Xtra.

Other channels like CBS Justice discontinued and merged onto Legend which serves as a replacement to Horror Channel which in turn becomes a part time channel Horror Xtra with the current CBS Reality getting a sister channel Reality Xtra.

If you've watched MTV, Travel Channel and TLC then you'll be able to realise that the brand names don't match with the offering and that's the case with these new channels.

Apparently, the content in question on these channels will remain the same Reality Xtra will air drama series although the name appears to make it a reruns or edgier version of CBS Reality and imagine they're instilling crime on horror.

Judging by the info available at the moment, its clear that these changes could have been last minute or organised in a short duration.

Taking that to account, is it possible another restructure is on the cards and perhaps with alternate names I mean Poland has the AMC brand and if not another name perhaps aligning the content with the brand names.

Last resort would include cord cutting as these channels are very much outdated even onto the new brands and the idea of AMC and Paramount operating less channels at this point doesn't seem far fetched.

If there's a brand I'd have to praise for its uniqueness then its CBS Reality I get this feed doesn't supply original content but the way this channel incorporates less repeats is astounding. Even more interesting is how their former brand name Reality (E)Xtra was revived.

Paramount+ Announces Plan For 150 International Originals Ahead Of UK And Ireland Launch

Over a year after its initial launch in the U.S., streaming service Paramount+ will be available in the U.K. and Ireland on Wednesday, June 22. Its international slate of seven new titles was announced on Monday, including its plans for 150 international originals by 2025.

The global expansion of the streaming service was first announced in May. Many U.S.-based streaming services are now entering into new countries and territories, as well as investing in international content to attract new audiences and diversify their content offerings across the globe. Disney+, for example, recently launched in 16 markets across the Middle East and North Africa. The streaming service aims to expand to 160+ countries by its fiscal 2023.

Although Paramount+ is considered a younger streamer than its rivals Disney+, HBO Max and Netflix, the company is committed to expanding in large international markets as the race for global domination continues for U.S. streaming services.

Last week, Paramount+ launched in South Korea in a partnership with TVING. In addition, launches in Italy, Germany, France, Austria and Switzerland are set for the end of 2022. Paramount+ will launch in Africa and the Middle East in 2023, as well as in India in partnership with Viacom 18.

The remainder of the markets in Europe has Paramount and Comcast partnering together to launch a new service called SkyShowtime. Coming later this year, the service will be available in Albania, Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Hungary, Kosovo, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.

Previously, Paramount+ unveiled its determination to greenlight 50 new scripted originals this year, with previously announced titles like “Sexy Beast” (from the U.K.), “The Chemistry of Death” (Germany), “Bosé” (Spain), “Fallaci” (Italy), “Impact” (France) and “Los Enviados” (Mexico), among others.

On Monday, Paramount+ revealed several more upcoming titles, including “Murder of God’s Banker,” a docuseries about the murder of Italian banker Roberto Calvi in the 1970s; a French fantasy horror series called “Mask: Marie Antoinette Serial Killer;” a German thriller “A Thin Line;” a German drama “The Sheikh;” an Italian true-crime drama called “Circeo;” a Mexican crime thriller “Sinaloa’s First Lady;” and a Mexican suspense thriller movie “One Must Die.”

In addition, international viewers who subscribe to Paramount+ will get to watch exclusive originals, blockbuster films from Paramount Pictures, and a wide selection of popular shows like “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds,” “Halo,” “The First Lady” and more.

“Paramount’s story began with the longest-running studio in Hollywood, and today we span the globe with our worldwide production studios that create hits for audiences around the world, which now live all in one place: Paramount+,” EVP and International General Manager Marco Nobili said in a statement. “As the service continues to expand internationally, there’s a great opportunity for content to travel globally, opening up a world of opportunities for talent and creators as we plan to commission 150 international originals by 2025 while delivering incredible value to subscribers on Paramount+.”

The Real Housewives is expanding to Cape Town

It began over 16 years ago in the affluent Californian enclave of Orange County, and since then, The Real Housewives franchise has gone on to achieve global success with 21 series internationally.

Locally, we've been introduced to wealthy wives and their lavish lifestyles in the RHOD (Real Housewives of Durban) and the RHOJ (Real Housewives of Johannesburg).

So it's really no surprise that The Real Housewives of Cape Town would follow.

From 10 July on Mzansi Magic fans of the show will be introduced to the seven 'housewives' who front the Cape Town series.

Roundups #65: Monster High: The Movie Coming This Fall To Nickelodeon And Paramount+, Idris Elba Reportedly In Talks For The Role Of James Bond And Lady Gaga Might Star In The Rumoured Jokers 2 Musical As Harley Quinn

Paramount+ and Nickelodeon are about to get spooky

Monster High (working title) stars Miia Harris (Just Beyond) as Clawdeen Wolf; Ceci Balagot (Dispatches from Elsewhere) as Frankie Stein; Nayah Damasen (Grey's Anatomy) as Draculaura; Case Walker (The Other Two) as Deuce Gorgon; Kyle Selig (“Mean Girls” on Broadway) as Mr. Komos; Marci T. Additional fan-favorite characters from the Monster High universe will also be seen throughout the TV movie.

Could Idris Elba become the next James Bond?

According to new reports, actor Idris Elba is in talks to play none other than 007 himself, James Bond, in the next instalment in the long-running franchise..

An insider reportedly stated, "Idris has long been in talks to play a role in the next era of James Bond’s story and last year was being considered for a role as an antagonist. However, talks surrounding him playing the lead have started again as producers realized how popular he would be after carrying out secret market research. He ranked highly among the diverse group of movie buffs invited to participate in it. They didn’t want to see him as a nemesis, they want him as the hero."

Earlier this year, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli confirmed Idris Elba was being considered for the role, following Daniel Craig's exit with No Time to Die. At the time, Broccoli said, "Well, we know Idris, we're friends with him, and he's a magnificent actor... And, you know, it's been part of the conversation, but it's always difficult to have the conversation when you have someone in the seat."

She also suggested no further discussions about the next Bond would take place until Craig's time as 007 was well and truly done. "I think we have decided that until No Time to Die has had its run and Daniel has been able to -- well, we've all been able to savor, reap the benefits of Daniel's wonderful tenure, we're not gonna think about, or talk about anybody else."

Lady Gaga might bring a superhero musical to life

Lady Gaga is in talks to star opposite Joaquin Phoenix in the sequel to Joker, according to sources. A deal hasn't been finalized, but she'd reportedly be playing Harley Quinn, the Joker's love interest whom he falls for after she serves as his psychiatrist.

Margot Robbie has been playing Harley Quinn in the DC film franchise, including in 2021's The Suicide Squad. But Gaga's take would be a separate version of the character in a different fictional universe. Robbie played Harley opposite Jared Leto as the Joker.

Director Todd Phillips announced last week this sequel is moving forward with the working title Joker: Folie à deux, a term that refers to "an identical or similar mental disorder affecting two or more individuals,".

It was also revealed that even though the original Joker was a dark character study, the sequel is said to be a musical. The first movie was inspired by Martin Scorsese's Taxi Driver, so might the sequel be inspired by Scorsese's musical New York, New York?

Could Comedy Central, BET And MTV Be On The Chopping Block As Paramount Network Rolls Out In Asia?

Paramount+ is scheduled to launch in Africa later in 2023 and questions amount to the fate of the current linear offering available on DStv and several other pay-tv outlets within the market.

Although, Paramount (at the time ViacomCBS) expressed no interest in closing their linear offering as seen with The Walt Disney Company. It doesn't really take out the possibility that perhaps they'll close down only a few channels before the rest follow due to the rise in streaming.

As seen in other markets, Paramount has been reducing the amount of linear channels mostly brands that leverage repeats or other old programming even channels with less views are put on a pedestal.

As I've browsed in the linear offering for Paramount Africa there's about 4 channels which need saving or could be Paramount+ next appetizer and it goes as follows:

Comedy Central - before the overseas counterpart become an animation channel, Comedy Central features old shows like The Big Bang Theory, Two And A Half Men, Friends and Modern Family and fast forward to 2022 they remain attached to those programs.

BET - my least favourite amongst the three continues to build their existence from other brands. If you're not watching a program from a rival station then you're getting a mashup of Comedy Central, MTV and not long ago Nickelodeon.

MTV - although it has the same flaws as the other two mentioned channels. It builds itself on originality I mean you have shows like Catfish, Ridiculousness, Just Tattoo Of Us and Ex On The Beach but what's sad about this brand is the overshadowing particularly with MTV Base.

Also not long ago, the social pages of Comedy Central Asia is being phased out for Paramount Network which not long ago was terminated in some parts of Europe. The brand was said to be a flagship channel for drama series and sitcoms but with Paramount+ all that fell into the cracks.

Paramount in Africa had at the one point thought of including the channel in their portfolio but not much was done at the time and from what experts speculated if the brand were fortunate enough to launch it would be no different to Asia of replacing channels.

From another site's perspective, they targeted MTV for Paramount Network for the reasons mentioned above overshadowing but from my perspective what if the brand wanted bigger bait in this case, Comedy Central.

What if MTV and Comedy Central were to merge to form Paramount Network or another brand like Spike with few MTV series forming part of MTV Base and BET's offering.

This supposed channel can have a large chunk of MTV as there's a lot of originals on there with Trevor Noah being the star attraction and somewhere along the line a 2 hour block for sitcoms with 1 hour for drama series and movies allocated when needed.

I mean the concept could help reduce the level of repetition amongst stations. In the end, the decision is entirely up to Paramount if they want to repeat Friends for another 10-20 years let them as others move to streamers or find other means of entertainment.

But again the idea of them possibly reducing channels hasn't left my mind. What if the reason for the slow terminations had something to do with the ongoing rollout of Paramount+.

Most of the international content in Africa is often referred to as (EMEA - Europe, Middle East and Africa) and whenever the A hits something always happens sometimes the A is the first to undergo those changes even before EME but when new merchandise comes in we're often the last ones to get it.
