Roundups #130: Iwayu Created By Set To Debut On Cartoon Network In 2024, Zoey 101 Is Getting A Feature Film On Paramount+ And Conspiracy Theory Surrounding kykNET Lekker's Availability Finally Revealed

New Nigerian animated series loading on Cartoon Network

Based on the graphic novel series from writer Roye Okupe and artist Godwin Akpan, HBO Max and Cartoon Network's upcoming Iyanu: Child of Wonder will be heavily influenced by the Yoruba people of Nigeria.

Financed and overseen by Lion Forge Animation, the 2024 animated TV series chronicles the tale of Iyanu, an orphaned teenage girl with no memories of her upbringing who yearns for a simple, normal life. Those dreams get shattered when a set of circumstances triggers Iyanu's dormant divine abilities. Teaming up with two other teenagers, Iyanu embarks on a quest to confront the Corrupt, a great evil rising in their homeland that threatens humanity. Along the way, Iyanu will slowly uncover the truth about her past, parents, powers, and destiny as the Chosen One.

The epic superhero adventure promises to draw from Nigerian culture, music, and lore. In addition, creator Okupe has written and directed multiple episodes. Lion Forge's head of production Saxton Moore, who serves as supervising director, and executive producer David Steward II recently spoke about adapting the graphic novel, cultural representation, Iyanu's quest, and anime influences.

kykNET Lekker is part of a mysterious open window

In December 2022, MultiChoice opened up kykNET Lekker (DStv 148) which was exclusive to only Access customers to their DStv Premium, Compact+, Compact and Family with not much info available as it occurred prior to the festive holidays.

As school's reopened and consumers reverted back to their daily lives, a source at kykNET was able to confirm that kykNET Lekker is in fact an open window but couldn't provide any more details other than what you already heard.

Basically, the kykNET Lekker's open window is what has been seen from 2022 - a mystery. The channel isn't listed on other packages compared to when channels like Nickelodeon have open windows and them listed on that package and the other having to be the lack of info regarding the channel.

DStv Access customers can now have access to the Turkish antics

Last month, MultiChoice gave several DStv customers above Access including Family, Compact, Compact+ and Premium customers access to kykNET Lekker with no exact details as to why that is so as they were trying to block out repeats which includes this channel.

As some consumers on Access aren't aware, eExtra's Kuiertyd recieved its first rival last year as kykNET's sister channel kykNET & Kie welcomed In Die Ysterhand Se Greep with consumers having access to Kind Van Die Noodlot.

Consisting of 148 episodes, Kind Van Die Noodlot follows Defne and Kahraman Yorukman a wealthy and childless couple whose family rejects them and this drives Defne to find an alternative way to give her husband an heir: She decides to hire a surrogate mother to give birth to a child for them.

10 Turkish Shows eMedia Investments' Kuiertyd, SPI International's Timeless Dizi Channel And M-Net's kykNET & Kie Should Acquire For The Year 2023

In 2018, Kuiertyd launched in South Africa offering a variety of telenovelas which have proven to be favourable for viewers. Four years later, kykNET ramps up a competitive offering for the consumers resulting in double the drama.

Stuck in the middle of this battle is Timeless Dizi Channel owned by SPI International which is a company of Canal+ which has minority stake on MultiChoice.

Heard from sources about 1 or 3 new series coming to South Africa through these brands and instead of divulging further onto those shows I thought of looking at similar shows part of which I've managed to browse.

Based on my recommendations don't be surprised if some of this content pop-up on either one of them. In a random order, we present the 10 Turkish shows eMedia Investments' Kuiertyd, SPI International's Timeless Dizi Channel and M-Net's kykNET should acquire in 2023.

Conspiracy Theory: kykNET Lekker Has Been Made Available To More DStv Customers

Launched earlier in 2020, kykNET Lekker is a general entertainment channel operated by M-Net catered to DStv Access complied the best of kykNET programmes, including soaps, lifestyle shows, children’s entertainment and music shows.

Some notable shows include the soap operas Binnelanders and Suidooster alongside other shows like Jou Show Met Emo, Kry Daai Luf and Kom Ons Karaoke. Just like Mzansi Wethu, a children's block but more updated was added to the lineup of content.

As advised before around the time:

"kykNET Lekker joins other kykNET channels to showcase Afrikaans content on an affordable and accessible package for DStv subscribers. It will become the home of a variety of the best Afrikaans programs from the kykNET vault and will only be available on the DStv Access package," says Karen Meiring, director of kykNET channels.

DStv:
Could Russia Today be removed from the DStv platform?
Qwest TV coming soon to Showmax
fliekNET to make a comeback this festive season
Why DStv Premium customers might lose out on a certain new channel?
eMedia's 4 channels to go dark on the DStv platform
VH1 making a comeback on DStv

Two years later, even more DStv customers can have access to the bulk of repeats I'm aware of Compact, I'm certain Family customers have it not sure about Premium, Compact+ and Easyview. But from what was understood the only reason it wasn't found on these platforms had to do with repeats.

As the festive season kicks in, MultiChoice decides that now would be the perfect occasion to open up kykNET Lekker on top of returning fliekNET to its original state - pop up which kind of begs the question.

Why is kykNET Lekker even available on the necessary packages? Could it have something to do with viewership I mean only a certain hand of consumers would even watch anything similar to 7de Laan I mean ratings was never much of a hassle after all we have Magic Showcase on Easyview but one has to wonder why is it visible.

Is it possible that it could be permanent addition or an experimental open window seeing as brands like Disney Channel and Nickelodeon have open windows on certain packages with the DStv website updated to include these channels but not kykNET Lekker.

Expanding onto the experimental, is it possible that MultiChoice is looking at how consumers would view these low mass channel and if successful might keep it onboard full-time and possibly look into expanding the reach of other low mass channels e.g. BBC UKTV.

Review: Charlize Theron's Opinion Over The Afrikaans Language

During the week, Hollywood star Charlize Theron made some bizarre comments about the Afrikaans language through a podcast. Taking to account that she was too raised in South Africa and moved overseas to have a better life.

The 47 year old actress stated that the language she grew up speaking was fading away and that only 44 people are still speaking the language. Implying that she isn't aware of the bulk of content coming to kykNET or the amount of people releasing books or poems in her native tongue.

Since the news of her offensive comments toward the Afrikaans language spread. She has recieved a ton of backlash while others choose to support her statement. From my perspective, I wouldn't say she's entirely wrong but her choice of words is what sets everyone back.

Afrikaans is the 3rd most spoken language in South Africa and sure schools may have seen a shortage in staff for this particular audience but that doesn't mean it's dying if anything it's reached a new stage in evolution.

Kind of like how you had SMS then Facebook and Twitter popped up both still can be messaging platforms the same case is currently happening with the Afrikaans language.

Sure there's a certain group of people who give the language a side eye not gonna point to race or anything but that's only cause they haven't found a way to enjoy it.

Honestly, I don't even watch Africa Magic the only way I can enjoy it is through tabloids to some extent and the same goes to sports where e-sports is another priority for me and everything else from soccer to wrestling I view through highlights and doccies.

Afrikaans has reached a new stage of evolution and it's popularity excelled following eMedia's and kykNET's investment toward Istanbul and platforms like Jou Afrikaans which is giving viewers another alternative to kykNET.

kykNET Vs. eExtra: MultiChoice's Purposed Attempt To Replicate Kuiertyd

MultiChoice and eMedia Investments have been on opposite sides for long time and the matter only worsened when the pay-tv operator opted to replicate the current offering seen with the red brand which led to the discontinuation of their 4 channels.

Now we look at what MultiChoice regards as the new eExtra.

kykNET serves as the Afrikaans division to M-Net's local endeavours offering content ranging from drama series, movies, lifestyle, reality shows and news something that's been lacking with SABC 2. Some notable titles include Tussen Ons, Suidooster and Binnelanders.

Honestly speaking, you can clearly see why MultiChoice would want to burden customers with something like kykNET I mean it has a lot of variety something which eExtra's Kuiertyd had but was later revamped to match that of Telemundo.

eExtra is very much regarded as general entertainment it doesn't have to be anything like HBO but anything that can offer a variety of flavours in one pot is cool by me. The channel features a range of telenovelas from Turkey, Korea and India including Elif and Twist Of Fate.

Let me say this one fact, if it wasn't for Kuiertyd I doubt a lot of consumers would take a lot of initiative to the Afrikaans movies and Die Kontrak. I'm not expecting them to get as much shows as most dubbed soaps but the impact does come with its own benefits.

It's not really about the language that got viewers glued to Doodsondes but the content in general. As it is, eExtra has a Turkish slot which falls out of Kuiertyd which is all the more proof that content drives in the ratings.

eExtra through Kuiertyd may lack a lot of things like reality shows, music and local dramas but you have to admit these Turkish shows is what gets anyone more viewers latched onto anything kykNET at this point.

Long Read: Lessons On Transition And Consistency From Turkey's George Clooney Aka Ozcan Deniz

Ozcan Deniz is born in Elmadag, which is a small province in the capital of Turkey - Ankara, has first showed up in screens and tabloids in early 90s as a teenager. Ankara is located at the heart of Anatolia and during the time the Arabesque (which is also a classical music genre) was massive in the region and had an influence in an entire generation and the country alike. The efforts from The Legendary Orhan Gencebay, The Emperor Ibrahim Tatlises and The Godfather Muslum Gurses has helped the music genre rise incredibly. There were people literally cutting their skin into pieces with razors during concerts, crying, screaming and all that good stuff. Not very much into dancing, except some funky gipsy-influenced songs of Ibrahim Tatlises.

Arabesque was a rather depressive, problematic and troublesome expression of music that described a nation which suffered 3 coupes by that time, experiencing economic difficulties, still paying the dues of a delayed catch-up of the industrial revolution's innovation. In fact, one can state that the problematic nature of Turkey in infrastructure, industrial, education and economic domains is caused by this which is still problematic to date. I mean, it is 2019 and Turkey still does not have a proper tax regulation to support tech companies or SMEs or NGOs - despite some efforts - and Turkish Lira has lost value significantly during the course of last several years. One can also state that this will provide the momentum of late catch-up culture of Turkey with The Internet Revolution (or Smart Phone revolution which I like to name it more like that but whatever) will also has consequences in the next 20 to 40 years considering the country has no proper environmental policy on top of all that previous stuff but let's leave that to a different article.

Ozcan Deniz was a youngster when he first came up, and due to the depressive nature of Arabesque music, performers and artists of the genre mostly (erm.. more like always) positioned themselves coming from 'really difficult times as a kid' and 'experienced every kind of drama in life'. It's not like I am unsymphatetic to any of the so called difficulties those individuals experienced, but obviously there were scams, flops, hypocrites and all kinds of applications you can think of when someone tries to get on to the fad train to gain fame and money. Like the start-up environment on our age today, instead people are starting companies with fancy one pagers for ICOs etc. nowadays - rather xtech then a depressive music style like arabesque or a Rap or R&B song.

Ozcan Deniz at his early days

Ozcan Deniz in his earlier days was a boy with huge afroish hair, rather 'natural' on his 'looks' despite some shiny accessories (probably gifted by their producers as arabesque come from Arabic in nature and I guess everyone knows the influence of Gold and its colour in the culture - does that come from Egypt originally?) claiming yet another pain story from his past with a powerful voice singing songs of love, agony, loneliness, solidarity, homesickness and basically any topic one can relate to arabesque.

As soon as he made to the stage, his transition started. There was stiff competition and most of the performers were positioning themselves as - sorry - losers, poor people who experienced unbearable miseries during their life and still maintained their faith in their beloved ones and The God, waiting for an update while singing. Crying on the stage while having booze and kebabs off the stage. They were the Drama Kings. Everything was bad and everything was like 'Oh God, what did I do to you, I am such a naive person and I sin not, yet you punish me with these experiences. Oh God I believe you so much and praying in you will definitely make things better in the next 50 years and worst case scenario I'll die and join you in heaven and that's when things will definitely be better. In Islam some claim that 40 hot chicks will welcome you in Heaven - Aloha! - if you be a good boy. Like Smurfs, you get to see them if you be a good boy, but in a more adult way. Funny such application from The God is never mentioned for the ladies, but I guess the Islamic POV of woman is pretty obvious, so. Nothing to worry about that, right?

I love you so much you make me dizzy, my white butterfly - Album by a rather more evolved Ozcan Deniz in later years.

A later Ozcan Deniz, on the other hand, positioned himself as a powerful guy - modern, handsome, taking good care of himself. He basically let go of the fad and became a more up to date performer who repositioned somewhere between Pop and Arabesque (Pop was big at the time also which made peak in Late 90s and Early 00s in Turkey). That was the 'breakeven point' for Ozcan Deniz. He became an early influencer, yet I doubt he even himself knew it. That doesn't mean of course it was very witty and smart of him to spot such gap in the market. Just like the start-ups, in a sense, there is a condensed market and someone comes up doing something in a way not very thought of before and succeeded with strategy. One can easily spot the transformation he performed from his early times to later 90s, with a nice suit and piercing looks and more sexy title which translates "I am losing my head for you because I am so much in love with you, my white butterfly." - Eww for me but it was significantly different positioning when compared to another arabesque-something like 'I am not even a human being because you have no interest in me, baby'.

His new strategy and line captured interest of producers, when Ozcan Deniz started showing up in series and movies. He started showing up in series and TV movies in mid 90s but his rise to the scene definitely happened in Asmali Konak, in which Ozcan Deniz was a landlord in South-East part of Turkey (close to Syria border) which had very dense cultural implications - these individuals are called 'Aga' in Turkish and basically 'own' the people (villagers, employees, etc.) in the area they live in. So basically he was that rich, educated nice guy who still had ties to his heritage and past. He was experiencing difficulties and drama but he stood so solid and cool ultimately he solved all the problems and issues. He was the new Drama Lord with a Modern look and Positive attitude.

In later years, he played in more shows. Let's take a quick look at his characters:

- Asmali Konak - Seymen Karadag: Respected landlord of Asmali Konak.
- Kader - Ali Asyali: Wealthy businessman who runs construction business internationally.
- Haziran Gecesi - Baran Aydin: Wealthy businessman who gets education in Italy.
- Istanbullu Gelin - Faruk Boran: Wealthy businessman, CEO of a multinational company (so wealthy to buy an airlines company, I mean, that wealthy).

You can spot the pattern, I guess. After his transition, Ozcan Deniz consistently positioned himself helping his cause in TV, eventually giving up the music business and becoming a phenomenal TV character. His series are mostly in top 5 of the rating list, became one of the highest earning movie stars and a publicly acclaimed individual who is widely respected - nothing to do with Arabesque only folks now. He has a reach on multiple domains.

Looking good, eh?

Ozcan Deniz became a self-made George Clooney of Turkey and deserves credit for his consistency, strategic execution and how he managed his transition so glamourously. Most of the Arabesque performers of his generation, old ones, young ones, mid level ones no longer exist in the scene or reach a minor audience nowadays, while Ozcan Deniz shows up on TV in every couple of years with a new series where he makes tons of money.

In a nutshell, what he has done to achieve this is:

1. Enter the market with a widely accepted business plan in potential.
2. Spot a gap in the market.
3. Reposition and rebrand in accordance to the gap.
4. Set a north pole of his own.
5. Strategically execute each move consistently - small like a paparazzi stand up chit chat after leaving a restaurant or big like positioning his character in an entire TV production - based on the direction of his north pole - a cultural transition.

Ozcan Deniz and his achievements can give a great depth of insight - a refined lesson - on what you or your company is today, and what it can become over time. If the gap you are looking for has a strategic potential, go for it, plan for it and execute it relentlessly - regardless of what others say. I am pretty certain when Ozcan Deniz first started rebranding his more sophisticated outlook by giving up on his gold accessories, many people criticized and did not support him. These people are long gone, retired or bankrupted while Ozcan Deniz is adding up to his bank account with ads, shows, live concerts and productions.

On the other hand, this also means that if you have followed a fad and keep the same business strategy and culture, you will also become non-existent over time.

Ozcan Deniz on the other hand has been influencing generations of Turkey since 2002.

Ozcan Deniz's success shows us what it takes to rebrand and transition your culture, and what it can take from you not to rebrand and evolve your culture and application over time can result into - loss and misery - and a few days later you find yourself with a big bottle of Raki, listening to 'that' arabesque song.

Filming has begun on the first Afrikaans version of the reality show Die Real Housewives van Pretoria (RHOP), produced by Provoco, making the new 13-episode reality series the 4th South African version. The show will premiere on Thursday, 13 October on kykNET (DStv 144) and simulcast on Showmax.

Next month filming will start on The Real Housewives of Nairobi produced by Young Rich Television, reports Variety. DStv subscribers in East Africa will get their first version set in Kenya, following The Real Housewives of Lagos, which made its debut on Showmax in Nigeria earlier this year.

"We are so proud to build on the continued success of The Real Housewives franchises across Africa," says Ana Langenberg, senior vice president for format sales and productions at NBCUniversal Formats.

Could kykNET Ramp Up Its Own ePlesier Channel?

In May, kykNET unveiled a programming block dedicated to Turkish dramas for their sister channel, kykNET & Kie which for over a decade has been the Mzansi Wethu to Mzansi Magic basically repeats with a few exceptions being reality and the kids block or some know it "Kie".

In a press release for the offering it was stated:

World-class TV has been dubbed into Afrikaans for decades. Over the past few years, South Africa's excellent reverberation skills have been used to bring Turkish telenovelas to local screens - in Afrikaans. The plot, action and romance in these telenovelas keep viewers glued.

Now fans of these world-class stories can look forward to two brand new dubbed Turkish telenovelas that will be broadcast on kykNET & kie from July 2022: In Die Ysterhand Se Greep and Kind Van Die Noodlot.

Although they won't give credit where due they're obviously referencing eExtra's Kuiertyd block but seeing as they're competing its justified why they wouldn't add them to the credit and also that plan to remove the channel alongside 3 other channels from eMedia Investments.

As mentioned in that small article, South Africans haven't stopped idolizing these shows. As seen with SABC's viewership for 7de Laan which manages to pull less than a views with e.tv's Droomvelore pull closing to 2 million.

In the success of this offering welcomed ePlesier, although e.tv and eExtra exist they aren't Turkish exclusive but questions amount to whether kykNET would be more than capable of ramping up a channel exclusively to Turkish dramas or remain as a mere block.

MultiChoice once offered a Turkish channel with content dubbed in English. Although, touched the hearts of several audiences didn't have much of an impact as seen with eExtra's Kuiertyd offering.

If I had to guess, the idea of kykNET launching such a brand doesn't seem far fetched. The content would obviously be duplicated on kykNET Lekker and this supposed channel but what if kykNET did better than ePlesier and gave this supposed channel first run series and 24 hour availability.

MultiChoice has lost out on several premium international channels like FOX, Disney XD, ITV Choice and Lifetime with more channels expected to close in the near future. This channel could fill that void and I mean MultiChoice has been duplicating content with the likes of kykNET Lekker and Moja 9.9.

This is only theory but seeing as MultiChoice tried to eliminate the competition. What if they kept i
eExtra onboard for sometime again theory and removed amidst the time this supposed channel came into existence. I mean I'd love to see competition amongst stations as it brings the best of both of them.

DStv Updates: fliekNET To Become A Pop-Up Channel From July 15th, eExtra's Kuiertyd To Be Replaced By KykNET And Rumoured Developments For The New Afrikaans Channel By Media24

fliekNET South Africa's only Afrikaans movie channel is set to be the 10th channel that exits from the DStv platform in 2022 joining other brands like Tellytrack, Lifetime, ITV Networks, Russia Today and e.tv's 5 channels (including eAfrica).

fliekNET began as a pop-up channel in 2014 as part of the holiday and grew popularity for its selection of movies that it joined other popular franchises like Big Brother and Idols to return on a yearly basis.

Amidst the pandemic, MultiChoice launched a permanent version of the channel which some found repetitive as the pay-tv company struggled to incorporate as much variety to the schedule opted to make it a pop-up channel from July 15th.

kykNET will be rolling out a Saturday night block kind of like the one seen on eMedia's eExtra channel but instead of licensing a batch of movies it will be similar to M-Net's Sunday Night Movies where you get the latest movies with more original productions coming in 2023.

They could have tried adding some of the content to M-Net Movies but oh well.

kykNET & Kie which serves as a sister and duplicate channel to kykNET will be rolling out two Turkish dramas in July competing with eMedia's existing offering with In Die Ysterhand Se Greep going head to head with Droomvelore on e.tv with Kind Van Die Noodlot with Dokter Ali and Fenix for those with Openview excluding Fridays.

All the more reason to believe kykNET is replacing eExtra but not on Easyview with Access having to wait at least a year or so to view these shows on kykNET Lekker likely as 4 days a week series.

Onto new channels, despite MultiChoice using an existing brand as an alternative to eExtra. They will be rolling out another Afrikaans channel on top of returning the pop-up channel Woordfees to more consumers in July.

The new channel is nothing is like eExtra except for the target group as the channel features reality and lifestyle kind of like eReality but local which in turn happens to be Media24's Via duplicate likely for Access customers as seen with kykNET Lekker.

MultiChoice had tested the channel later in April onto May with further information about the channel nowhere in site with the lab rat either being delayed or terminated but delayed is more believable.

The 140 section is crowded with Afrikaans channels perhaps part of the reason fliekNET is being phased out is to make space for this channel and 149 would make a suitable channel number as it makes the main Via channel superior.

Considering how most of this happened amidst eMedia's demise on the DStv platform, you could say that the Via duplicate in a way is there to make up for the loss of eExtra.

Penguin Films Launching A Brand New Telenovela On kykNET Titled Diepe Waters

Penguin Films is starting a brand new telenovela which will be broadcast on DSTV Channel KykNET 4 days a week from September 2022. We are currently planning for our shoots starting on 15 June. The show is called DIEPE WATERS (Deep Waters) and is about a swimming club, swimmers and their coaches. We are hoping to make it look as real as possible and therefore we are looking for Professional Swimmers and a coach to assist. What we would need is whenever we film at the swimming pool is for the presence of a swim coach on-site to make sure the technique and protocol of our actors and storylines is close to the truth when a real-life gala, competition or practice takes place. We will also need to get some professional swimmers (age 18-25) who will be our background actors. We film at Coronation Swimming Pool in Johannesburg and our first dates will be 23 and 24 June.

They are looking for a coach willing to be part of this and also some swimmers. The payment varies depending on the level of swimming skill and also the role they will play. The swim coach fee will depend on his/her swimming structure.

You can DM them on Facebook

New Series Alert: Kuiertyd Premium Welcomes First Exclusive Series, Kruispad

Kuiertyd Premium launched earlier in the year with a repeat of eVOD's telenovela Impak and at the time it was believed that the slot will only be dedicated to content from the streaming services kind of like e.tv's 8pm slot on Sunday but that will likely not be the case in the near future.

Apparently, eExtra acquired rights to never before seen psychological thriller Kruispad (Babil) produced by Kerem Catay who also worked on a lot of projects for the channel including Fenix, Fatmagul, Kurt En Shura, Bittersoet and Die Put.

Kruispad explores the life of Irfan, an idealistic professor who is upset by his unfair dismissal and is trying to care for his sick son. As the doors close one by one, Irfan finds himself in the middle of a dark adventure that he can't escape.

Halit Ergenç takes on the lead role of İrfan Tuna Saygun while Onur Saylak/Ozan Güven stars as Egemen Kıvılcım, Aslı Enver as Ayşe Karaali/Nihal, Birce Akalay as İlay Yücedağ, Nur Fettahoğlu as Eda Saygun, Mesut Akusta as Süleyman Yavuncu and Beren Kasımoğulları as Deniz Saygun.

The series is said to replace Impak every Sunday at 19:30 on eExtra with repeats available on eVOD from 3rd July.

The launch date concides with Kuiertyd's pay-tv rival kykNET & Kie which will also be rolling out Turkish dramas to DStv consumers due to popular demand and also as a way to fill the void now that viewers have to rely on e.tv and now kykNET for Turkish series.

More Pop Coming To DStv Premium And AddMovies Customers As fliekNET Becomes A Pop-Up Channel From Mid-July

After almost 2 years, MultiChoice announced that South Africa's first and only Afrikaans movie channel fliekNET home to locally produced films like You Must be Joking, There's a Zulu on my Stoep, Sweet 'n Short and Agter Elke Man on channel 149 will stop airing on DStv from 15 July.

The channel began in 2014 as a pop-up channel and will live on a pop-up channel for the years to come with kykNET filling up their Saturday night movie schedule with new Afrikaans films. A 50 minute short film will be added alongside a 90 minute film by 2023.

Interesting enough about this timeslot, it kind of coincides with eMedia's eExtra channel movie block which too offers Afrikaans films. Except kykNET is going for the M-Net approach which is fresh while eExtra is just scrapping the pot for gold.

The two's rivalry doesn't stop from there as kykNET will be filing their stockings with Turkish dramas I mean it was bound to happen as they've dubbed several other things to Afrikaans. Point being made the idea for this was came due to its success with eMedia.

eMedia is having an on/off relationship with MultiChoice for their channels so it possible that maybe the idea of phasing fliekNET had partially something to do with them or just the fact that there wasn't a lot of viewers or content to keep it afloat.

Honestly MultiChoice is not giving a straightforward answer just the same old:

Channel and content offerings are reviewed regularly in terms of viewing trends and consumer needs. This market research may lead to channel additions or terminations.

#BoycottKykNet: A Possible Outcome To The Demise Of eExtra

eMedia Investments got into a fist fight with MultiChoice when the pay-tv platform decided to scrap 4 of their e.tv channels before handling the matter with Competition Tribunal with outcomes to the agreement set to be unraveled.

As seen this past week, kykNET's duplicate channel kykNET & Kie will be adapting to the concept seen on eExtra's Kuiertyd block where they dub various telenovelas particularly Turkish in Afrikaans and giving the free-to-view brand some steady competition.

As mentioned in an early press release:

World-class TV has been dubbed into Afrikaans for decades. Over the past few years, South Africa's excellent reverberation skills have been used to bring Turkish telenovelas to local screens - in Afrikaans. The plot, action and romance in these telenovelas keep viewers glued.

kykNET obviously got this entail from e.tv as series like Droomvelore can pull close to 2 million views while a show like 7de Laan has less than 900000 views monthly. Even eExtra despite not being as accessible as the main brand was fortunate enough to surpass 7de Laan.

As seen for the past 4 years, this content was exclusive to eExtra before being duplicated on more eMedia brands now DStv consumers will be getting more alternatives to but the decision to keep the e.tv channels is entirely up to DStv.

Firstly, kykNET's attempt could be met with severe backlash not because of the cancellation of Tussen Ons or reduction in local content but MultiChoice's decision to not keep eExtra alongside the 3 other e.tv channels.

After that close scare in March, several consumers opted for Openview in case things don't work out between those parties and these shows are divided between platforms.

eMedia was the main reason these stories went on to be as big as they are today. The only way most if not all consumers would view this content on DStv is to be assured that eExtra will remain unscathed throughout kykNET's introduction to the Turkish market.

Primetime War: e.tv's Dokter Ali, Fenix, And Droomvelore Clash With kykNET's In Die Ysterhand Se Greep And Kind Van Die Noodlot

As eMedia's rivalry with MultiChoice escalated regarding the carriage of their 4 e.tv channels which are set to go off air soon. The rivalry is about to get even bigger with the launch of kykNET's two primetime dramas: In Die Ysterhand Se Greep And Kind Van Die Noodlot.

From Monday 4 July, the two dramas will be broadcast four days a week. In Die Ysterhand Se Greep will be on the box on Mondays to Thursdays at 17:30 and Kind Van Die Noodlot Mondays to Thursdays at 20:00. The captivating plot, action and romance in the hour-long episodes of these two series will keep viewers glued.

Interesting enough, Droomvelore currently seen on e.tv clashes with In Die Ysterhand Se Greep while Dokter Ali and Fenix get half of the pie with Kind Van Die Noodlot.

The rivalry continues on weekends but each show exchanges roles. In Die Ysterhand Se Greep on kykNET & Kie airs at 10:00 with Dokter Ali coming in 5 minutes early at 9:55 on eExtra with Kind Van Die Noodlot on kykNET & Kie coming in at 14:00 with Droomvelore arriving late by an hour and 20 minutes being 15:20.

In other developments for kykNET & Kie audiences
The ever-popular soapie Suidooster stays in the same time slot, weekdays at 18:30, followed by the news in Afrikaans at 19:00.

Dr. Darren Green and his experts will continue to inform viewers in Medical on Mondays at 21:30 and give tips on a variety of medical conditions.

After four years, we greet the inspiring presenters of Between Us - Tracey Lange, Zelda le Grange, Kay Karriem, Success Lekabe and Ingrid Jones. The last episode of this beloved talk show will air on June 30 at 8 p.m.

Kô, let's talk, or KLOP !, kykNET & kie's talk show presented by Heindrich Wyngaard, moves from Wednesdays at 20:30 to Sundays at 19:30. This means that the current repeat slot on a Sunday will be the program's new broadcast time.

The popular gospel-and-talk show Choirs with Jonathan Rubain will still be broadcast on Sundays at 18:00, after which viewers can move right to eNews.

Weekdays 'reruns of Binnelanders' tenth season move to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays. Married to rugby's sixth season is still broadcast Mondays through Fridays at 9pm. All episodes of Egoli are available on Showmax and weekly omnibuses still show on Sundays at 07:30 - 10:00 on kykNET & kie.

These schedule changes are part of a major renewal at kykNET & kie (DStv channel 145), which will surprise viewers with more new locally produced programs later this year.
