The United States was born out of violent public protest and every major social and politcal advancement in their colourful history has been the result of people taking to the streets to voice their demands. Public protest created the US in 1776 and almost destroyed it in 1861. Cites have burned. People have been killed. Yet, each tme civil unrest has forced the country to take an uncompromising look at itself, to judge if it is on the right course - the course set by the US Consttuton. This one-hour documentary special, executve produced and hosted by Kareem Abdul Jabbar, will look at the impact protests have had on the evoluton of the United States, including today. Does the arc of the moral universe bend toward justce when pressure is applied?

TUSKEGEE AIRMEN: LEGACY OF COURAGE
3 April Saturday 21h05 American anchor Robin Roberts’ father was a Tuskegee Airman, part of the legendary group of African-American military pilots who fought in World War II and were the frst men of colour to fy as pilots in the US Air Force. Now, in this one hour special, Robin examines the broader legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen, revealing how their brave service helped end segregaton in the military and paved the way for the civil rights movement, infuencing generatons of African American cultural and politcal leaders. Interviewees include the prolifc voices of Donald Glover, Ta-Nehisi Coates and Yara Shahidi.

400 YEARS: TAKING THE KNEE

This two- part special begins with frst years of the European slave trade but fundamentally focuses on the individuals who fought and struggled against colonialism, slavery, and their legacies. The frst part investgates the diferent struggles in the gradual labour of breaking down the system of slavery. It looks to the violent resistance that occurred within the Atlantc system, inspiring defance, and fracturing the machine piecemeal, but also to the literary and politcal organising in the frst abolitonary process. The second part deals with very diferent sorts of struggles: the legacies of slavery and colonialism and how they have been paterned out and resisted up to the present day. It turns again to literary composers, politcal organisers and to especially resonant symbolic moments, reminding us of the importance of remembering those who have pioneered, resisted, spoken out and paved the way.

This award-winning flm recounts the role of a white man in a defning moment of the American civil rights movement: the 1968 Black Power Salute. When Tommie Smith and John Carlos raised their fsts on the victory dais following the Olympic 200 metre fnal in Mexico City, the repercussions were immediate. They were banished from the US Olympic team and were subject to abuse and death threats on their return home. The third man on the dais had a similar experience, Australian silver medallist Peter Norman, who, as a punishment for his support of Smith and Carlos was reprimanded by the authorites and never ran for his country again. Superbly writen, produced and directed by Norman’s nephew, Mat Norman, for the first tme the complete story behind one of the most iconic images of all tme will be told. 12 April Mondays 20h15 On this all-new competton show, the best bladed weapon-makers in the country go head-to-head building everything from Viking batle axes, to Samurai swords, to Indian claw daggers. There will be new weapons and contestants every week, and stunning tests of their creatons. In each stand-alone episode, four new contestants batle it out in a quest to prove they can build a partcular weapon beter than anyone else – and they’re doing it by hand. This is the show that turns the crafsmanship, legend and excitement of weapons-building into an against-the-clock batle of wits, resourcefulness, and ingenuity. Contestants compete over a series of eliminaton challenges using the “garage” of tools provided. Each challenge centres on fabricatng a component of the overall weapon. Judged by an esteemed panel of weapons experts, the race to create the episode’s weapon of choice is a journey through weapon history under ‘Mission Impossible’ time constraints with an explosive finale. The winner leaves with $10,000 cash and the coveted ttle of “Forged in Fire Champion”.
