Euphoria returns for a third season in 2024

In February, it was announced that the popular drama series had been renewed for a third season, generating excitement amongst followers of the series. However, as the season 2 finale premiered, it was revealed that Euphoria won't return until 2024.

This wait will be made even more difficult thanks to that shocking season 2 finale, where Fezco's younger brother, Ash (Javon Walton), was killed by police as they raided his and Fezco's home. Meanwhile, many relationships were left up in the air, leaving fans to wonder the fate of couples like Rue (Zendaya) and Jules (Hunter Schafer) and Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney).

Euphoria fans previously had to wait almost three years between the first two seasons, after the COVID-19 pandemic delayed filming on season 2. However, the hiatus was broken up by two specials that aired in the winter of 2020-2021.

The Possible Reason Behind eToonz, eMovies, eMovies Extra And eExtra's Demise On DStv

MultiChoice has decided to part ways with the channels after almost 5 years following their failure to renew the contract with eMedia Investments for the channels.

As some are aware, eMedia Investments hasn't been profiting from these brands ever since their induction on DStv. They went from earning earning over R200 million with eNCA to less than R150 when eExtra, eMovies, eMovies Extra and eToonz were added.

During the years, the red brand has experienced their frustration with the pay-tv company. Take for instance the oral hearing set by ICASA, eMedia Investments boasted about how popular their channels were and MultiChoice not taking that into consideration left them with peanuts.

tvN pushing to become a permanent linear channel in Africa
Could Nicktoons be discontinued in Africa and likely the rest of the world?
Multichoice won't be adding anymore community channels

At the time Afro Worldview was on air, the company found out that the controversial news channel was making more money than eNCA despite them operating the most watched news station on their platform.

Negotiations are held behind closed doors so no one really knows what happens during those meetings.

eMedia Investments confirmed that MultiChoice opted not to carry those channels but what led to the decision in the first place. Is it possible eMedia Investments was demanding for more money and MultiChoice packed their bags or was the issue just with the content?

I mean the way MultiChoice was pick to just replace them actually implies that the issue may or may not have been money but content.

SABC Encore and SABC Children channel might be in development
Could eNCA launch on Openview?

MultiChoice focuses more on content than performance when deciding how much money a company generate from their stock and these 4 channels despite being very reliable lacked one thing and that was originality.

Despite their dominance, eMovies had a stack of content from M-Net Movies and Studio Universal, e.tv played second fiddle to eExtra which played second to Zee TV and eToonz doppelganger was just metres apart but that all changes from March 18th.

EVIL🔞: "Gloomy Sunday" The Song That Caused Suicides

If you're under 18 then this isn't for you

“Gloomy Sunday,” came to existence during one of history’s bleakest moments. Written in 1933 by Hungarian pianist and composer Reszõ Seress against the backdrop of the Great Depression and an increasing fascist influence in Hungary, and originally recorded in 1935 by Pál Kalmár, the song is something of a plea for mercy as humanity is at its worst. Seress’ original published lyrics were titled “Vége a világnak,” or “The World Is Ending,” and reflected a growing sense of horror and despair at the state of the world. A key sample lyric translates to “Meadows are coloured red with human blood/There are dead people on the streets everywhere,” just to give a frame of reference for the level of darkness that Seress’ composition harbored. No wonder it’s been blamed for anywhere between 17 and over 100 suicides.

To hear “Gloomy Sunday” is to be blanketed in tragic beauty. The song’s minor key melody is at once incredibly catchy and ominously dark, crafted to evoke a sense of despair that transcends language. While Seress’ song became an international hit, eventually being recorded by Billie Holiday in what’s now probably the most famous version of the song, one need only hear the emotion in Kalmár’s gently aching voice to know the pain behind the verses. (Not to mention the vintage crackle of the nearly 90-year-old song gives it a particularly ghostly quality.) Yet its origins stem from something as simple as a breakup, Seress having written the song after the end of a relationship. That the song delved so deep into such harrowing personal feelings initially proved to be an obstacle for the songwriter in his attempt to have it published. One publisher reportedly said, “there is a sort of terrible compelling despair about it” about his reluctance to publish the song.

And yet, in spite of this, “Gloomy Sunday” eventually became a hit. More than that, it became a standard, recorded in many languages by countless artists, including Billie Holiday, Sinead O’Connor, Mel Tormé and Sarah Vaughn. But to hear the lore about the song, it’d seem to have some kind of sinister power over the people who hear it. It’s not even corporeal, but it has a massive body count. Some of the various accounts of its supposed, morbid misdeeds include: a shoemaker whose suicide note quoted the song; a girl in Vienna drowning while holding its sheet music; a man who shot himself after telling loved ones the song wouldn’t leave his head; a woman in London who overdosed while listening to “Gloomy Sunday”; sheet music was found in the apartment of a shopkeeper in Berlin who hanged herself—the list goes on, and those are only the apocryphal accounts that have managed to live on in the near-century since the song came into being. It’s a merciless fiend of a song, almost supernatural, like the video in The Ring you see before you die. Which, perhaps, makes my repeated listens to the song over the past week ill-advised. If it did, in fact, cause the carnage attributed to it.

Because of the epidemic of suicides in the aftermath of the song’s release, and possibly because of it, Hungarian authorities supposedly discouraged broadcast of the song. A more extreme version of the song was that it was banned, and an even more extreme one yet was that it was even banned in the US and UK, where its popularity spread. None of this, at least according to Snopes, can be corroborated, but it’s entirely understandable if broadcasters and the government were a little on edge because of what they were hearing. And to be fair, it is a mournful song. Gloomy, even! It’s not at all surprising to hear that deathrock icons Christian Death later covered it or, for that matter, doom metal band Pallbearer, whose version is actually quite stunning. But it does take a certain frame of mind to hear this song and not feel a sense of dread. “Terrible compelling despair” doesn’t seem at all exaggerated in describing the song, though that doesn’t mean it’s bad. It’s quite pretty, and its earliest versions, particularly in the original Hungarian, are utterly haunting.

- Murder of Dee Dee Blanchard - the woman who drugged and confined her daughter to a wheelchair

In some sense, the monstrous stories about “Gloomy Sunday” wreaking havoc seem to be a distraction from the genuine sadness surrounding the song. The landscape in which it was released was one of the darkest of the 20th century, as prosperity declined and iron-fisted hateful authoritarians rose. And we’re in a landscape now, globally, that mirrors the era in too many ways. And Hungary, up through the ’80s, had one of the highest suicide rates of any country in the world, which suggests that “Gloomy Sunday” was merely a reflection of the despair that surrounded it, rather than its cause. Most tragic of all, however, Seress himself dying after jumping off of a building in Budapest in 1968, which makes it the sole concrete connection among all of the stories out there. (There is also a story about the woman who broke up with him, initially inspiring the writing of the song, dying herself after hearing it, though there’s no evidence or documentation of this, just secondhand telephone games with the dead.)

Given all the baggage that “Gloomy Sunday” carries, it’s a song that’s easier to analyze than enjoy. Can one simply listen to a song that’s supposedly such a powerful, overwhelmingly dark presence without context. Can it be enjoyed for what it is? It can, possibly. But with the flood of information that’s already been disseminated, there’s more context than song, at this point. In 2019, it can’t be separated from its reputation as “The Hungarian Suicide Song,” for better or for worse. To hear it, however, it’s impossible to shake the lingering eerie feeling that it leaves with you. Beware of its hitchhiking ghosts.

Russia Today (RT) Stopped Airing On DStv And TelkomOne

RT, the Russian state-owned news channel formerly known as Russia Today, is no longer available on DStv, just one day after MultiChoice Group said it had no intention of canning it. But the decision was out of the pay-television broadcaster’s hands.

Viewers who tune into DStv channel 407 – where RT is meant to be housed – are now greeted with a message saying the “channel is closed” and are encouraged to check the television guide for when it might open again.

The closure of the channel was spotted on Wednesday evening. The channel also seems to have been suspended from the online streaming version of DStv.

The channel’s disappearance comes a day after MultiChoice told this publication that it would not pull the channel of its pay-TV bouquets, despite an EU-wide ban and restrictions placed on it – and another Russian news broadcaster Sputnik – by technology giants including Google, YouTube, Microsoft, Meta Platforms and Twitter.

But MultiChoice, it has transpired, had nothing to do with taking RT off DStv. In response to a query from TechCentral, the company confirmed RT was pulled off its platform effective 2 March and “not be carried on the DStv platform until further notice”.

Could Nicktoons be discontinued in Africa and likely the rest of the world?
Multichoice won't be adding anymore community channels

“Sanctions imposed on Russia have led to the global distributor of the channel ceasing to provide the broadcast feed to all suppliers, including MultiChoice,” it said.

Satellite services
MultiChoice relies on satellite backhaul links to receive its programming. It also distributes its channels to viewers using an Intelsat satellite. Intelsat is headquartered in Luxembourg, which is a member state of the EU.

The bans and restrictions on RT and Sputnik come as many nations impose severe sanctions on Russia for invading Ukraine, a move that is expected to cripple the country’s economy. Harsh sanctions have also been imposed on Putin and his inner circle, as well as many of the country’s oligarchs, who have prospered in the corrupt Russian system.

South Africa is not one of the nations that has imposed sanctions, and the governing ANC has strong historical ties to Russia and continues to have good relations with it.

Meanwhile, communications regulator Icasa also weighed in on RT’s removal from DStv. Icasa said in a statement issued late on Wednesday evening that it will approach MultiChoice about the decision.

Icasa chairman Keabetswe Modimoeng
“Given the underlying principle of the South African broadcasting system for promoting a plurality of views, it is only prudent for Icasa to enquire with DStv on the rationale for the discontinuation of the RT channel,” said Icasa CEO Keabetswe Modimoeng in the statement.

Icasa said it “would like to put it on record that the broadcast of RT on the DStv platform is and continues to be a commercial agreement between the subscription TV broadcaster, MultiChoice and RT”.

The authority’s role in the broadcasting of RT has been solely limited to channel authorisation as submitted by the licensee (in this case, MultiChoice) and approved by Icasa prior to the channel being introduced.

“This is a regulatory requirement fulfilled by the licensee before introducing any new channel for consumption by the South African public,” the regulator said.

“Our licensing and compliance division has not received any notification by MultiChoice confirming the discontinuation of the channel on its DStv platform. It is in the public interest to know the reasons for this discontinuation since the authorisation was approved by the authority,” said Modimoeng.

DStv Updates: KIX Replaces eMovies And eMovies Extra On The Family And Access Packages, DreamWorks Channel Replaces Disney XD And eToonz, A New Movie Channel Is Coming Soon And Easyview Customers Lose Two More Channels

Following the unexpected terminations of eMedia Investments four TV channels primarily eToonz, eExtra, eMovies and eMovies Extra from 1st April. The pay-tv platform has shared some new developments for DStv customers.

First was the overhyped animated channel from NBCUniversal DreamWorks Channel which makes up 90% of eToonz lineup will take up the space of Disney XD on channel 304 after two years. It launched in 2020 on the sinking pay platform StarSat and StarTimes across Africa.

Kwara TV might launch on DStv

Here's the catch while eToonz was available on the cheapest package Easyview in South Africa the DreamWorks Channel will only be available to Compact+ customers in the rest of Africa with South Africa likely bundling it on Compact.

Family and Access customers will get 1 movie channel to make up for the loss of eMovies which is karate skewed channel KIX while MultiChoice confirms details of the second movie channel launching later in the year.

Easyview customers which had Access to half of these channels aren't getting anything even if they did. The likelihood is that MultiChoice won't bother mentioning it to the media. TNT and Real Time are so far the only valuable channels on there.

Details of a new movie channel was rumoured for the platform for almost a year now to think that it had some involvement with these channels. Not gonna speculate but several names were thrown in the air one of which were FilmBox.

FilmBox is owned by Timeless Dizi Channel's parent company SPI International which is pretty much the AMC of the company with cheesy movies and a little dash of series but less old fashioned.

By looking at all this info I doubt MultiChoice will reconsider and eMedia Investments will take their chances and deal with the loss of revenue. In the end, I can see eExtra and probably eToonz return as eMovies had plenty existing from DStv just like eReality.

Here's some predictions:

- MultiChoice adds either Novela Magic or Telemundo onto the Easyview package.
- PBS Kids or Da Vinci Kids will also be made available to the Easyview platform.
- Zee World is made available to Access customers.
- A new or returning channel launches to make up for eExtra likely Timeless Dizi Channel and tvN but on the Compact and Family package.
