Conspiracy Theory: The Introduction To Nick Jr. Global

Nick Jr. is an international preschool brand basically a division set by Paramount for audiences below Nickelodeon's demographic which serves to inspire, educate and offer safe content for kids and families alike.

I don't watch Nick Jr. probably because I'm no longer their target audience or my brain capacity has evolved to such a point where you can spot the PBS and FOX.

Anyways the shows I'm sure viewers would be familiar with include Dora The Explorer, Paw Patrol, Peppa Pig, Corn & Peg, Santiago Of The Seas, Shimmer And Shine, Nella The Princess Knight and Blaze And The Monster Machines.

As seen in the past years, cable has seen a decline internationally with MultiChoice bleeding in not only Premium but Compact consumers as well following the continuous hikes in their subscription and cutback in premium channels.

Insidus Games:
- Johnny Bravo: Big Babe Adventure
Lego Star Wars
Trace On
The Lion King
Garfield 2: Royal Adventure
Legend Of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse

As seen with The Walt Disney Company, they have been shuttering several National Geographic, FOX and Disney Channels globally with plans to close 100 of them underway questions amount to when or if other players like Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount will follow.

Although there hasn't been much cord cutting on Paramount's side or at least like The House Of Mouse - a plaque. There has been a couple of hints which point to the demise of their offering and in this case, Nick Jr.

Despite the bloodbath of cable consumers, preschool content seems to be managing alright in this era where consumers instead of opting to Twitter or Instagram are more comfortable writing messages and watching news on the telly

Paramount is currently expanding their streaming service to more markets and fact is they're investing in more content from this platform most of these funds which went to the likes of Comedy Central and Nickelodeon are now joint with Paramount+.

As far as linear goes, Paramount has made several adjustments kind of like how MTV and several Nicktoons have been globalised even Nick Jr. seems to have adapted to the two brands. This may seem normal to some audiences but here are the setbacks.

Nick Jr. having to share a feed with several regions especially those with censorship means viewers will miss out on a content and continuing on there less money will be thrown into the fire. In this case, Nick Jr. as not much new content will be added as seen in previous years.

Regular Nick:
- CBeebies picks up second season to Tish And Tash
Best & Bester coming soon to Nicktoons
We Baby Bears currently the only original program on Cartoon Network
January on Cartoon Network and Boomerang
January on Disney Channel
January on Da Vinci Kids

At the moment, Nick Jr. still remains as a go-to-destination for preschoolers but the moment it's started learning from its sister channel Nicktoons that's when you can actually countdown the days of its demise.

I mean hardly anyone views Nicktoons in the same manner as Nickelodeon if anything the brand is more relevant for nostalgia which might as well be the future for Nick Jr. as more consumers abandon their TV sets.

Hasbro To Sell eOne TV, But Keep Family Brands

In a development that many saw coming, Hasbro has announced today that it’s initiating a sale process for eOne’s library and adult-skewing scripted and unscripted content businesses.

“As we execute Blueprint 2.0 [link] with a focus on strategic investment in key franchise brands like D&D, Peppa Pig and Transformers, we plan to expand our entertainment offerings across scripted TV, digital shorts and blockbuster films,” said CEO Chris Cocks in a statement.

Olivier Dumont, president of kids and family brands at eOne, has confirmed to Kidscreen that his division will not be affected by the sale. The eOne Family Brands portfolio includes high-performing IPs such as PJ Masks, Power Rangers and preschool series Ricky Zoom. PJ Masks, in particular, has a robust Hasbro-branded consumer products program spanning toys, playsets and costumes, as well as a broad range of licensed products from category-leading partners.

Assets that are for sale include eOne’s library content, unscripted series and non-Hasbro scripted series and films, as well as Hasbro’s stake in eOne’s film and TV distribution business.

The announcement builds on Hasbro’s most recent investment call, in which the company introduced a strategy to lean on its legacy IPs for brand-building, while using eOne’s studio capabilities to develop new ones like Kiya. In February, Hasbro hired Ruedilyn Cox as VP of global franchise strategy and management for this fledging TV-driven IP that centers around a young superhero and her best friends.

“The company plans to maintain significant development, production and financing capabilities to support its core brands across film, TV, animation and digital shorts,” according to Hasbro’s investor statement, which notes that its entertainment team will continue to operate under the eOne production banner until—and if—a sale is completed.

Roundups 105: Queen Of The South To End With Season 3 On Telemundo, Paddington Renewed For Season 3 On Nick Jr. And E! News Revived By NBCUniversal For E! Entertainment

Teresa Mendoza returns to your screens one last time

The television series La Reina del Sur tells the story of a powerful fictional drug trafficker named Teresa Mendoza, who is currently locked up in a U.S. maximum security prison for the murder of DEA agents.

The third season begins with Teresa still in a four-year solitary confinement.

"Four years have passed since being in a prison and it brings other things to head. It obviously brings a desire for freedom and revenge, to be once again with her daughter. We are going to see a warrior and craziest Teresa. Now she has absolutely nothing to lose," said the starring actress of the series, Kate del Castillo, in an interview with People en Español.

Paddington is getting a third season

Top European powerhouse Studiocanal has renewed its global deal with Nickelodeon which will board Season 3 of CG animated megahit “The Adventures of Paddington.”

Marking most surely one of the biggest single title content deals unveiled at this year’s Mipcom, the Nickelodeon renewal for Season 3 comes as Studiocanal has also unveiled a slew of second-window deals on Season 1 after the title’s hugely successful global rollout overseen, like Season 2, by Nickelodeon. It comes, moreover, just months after Studiocanal announced in June that Dougal Wilson is attached to direct “Paddington” 3, the third feature film in the franchise.

Together, the renewal, sales and new movie confirm “Paddington” as not only the biggest franchise at Studiocanal – at a time when the production-distribution-international sales giant is looking to expand its brand activity, says Studiocanal CEO Anna Marsh – but as one of the most powerful in Europe.

E! News premieres 14 November

Late nights just got a whole lot better with the return of the beloved entertainment news show, E! News. After being put on hiatus in March 2020 due to COVID, the series was officially canceled in August 2020.

Going forward, the reimagined series will focus on fact-based reporting and give celebrities a platform to interact with their fans. In charge of helping you end your night with the 411 on all things pop culture are Emmy-winning TV host and personality Adrienne Bailon-Houghton and former Daily Pop host Justin Sylvester.

The return of E! News is a part of a much more significant shift happening in the entertainment network. Over the past few months, long-running shows like Daily Pop, hosted by Sylvester and Loni Love, as well as Nightly Pop, have been canceled as a part of the network’s plan to restructure. It was mentioned that the network wanted to “solidify E!’s role in entertainment news” and “return to the roots of the E! News brand as the gold standard of entertainment news coverage.”

Paramount Africa's Future Is Up In The Air As Several Of Their Websites Have Shut Down

For several months, Nicktoons has become a waste featuring mostly SpongeBob SquarePants and The Casagrandes with the Nick Jr. block adopting to a similar format with Peppa Pig and Paw Patrol. Basically, it appears as if Paramount is ready to call it quits.

But that's not the only thing that seems bizarre about Paramount as several brands ranging from Comedy Central, MTV, BET and Nickelodeon all once operated a regional site which gives you details about some of the content seen on the channel and was usually a place fans would engage.

Now just like Nicktoons, Paramount Africa's websites appears to have been discontinued as several consumers are redirected to a European based website.

Sure Paramount in Africa is managed by the folks in those regions but there is so much of a variation on which the company seems to have cut down with MTV and Nick Jr. But the brands in question had a lot of variation during their run.

Comedy Central, MTV Base and Nickelodeon have all been redirected to the Netherlands. Take into account, there's a slight variation aside from content there's the matter of language of which not a lot of viewers are very much familiar with.

Even the media sales website had been listed as spam or a rejected website which could be another indicator that Paramount is distancing their focus away from their linear channels and more to Paramount+.

Interesting to note, My5 a UK based streaming service is managing the once available BET Africa website. This is the brand that took away the linear feed to the channel within that region which kind of raises questions over Paramount's linear offering.

Although there's no definite release date, several Nickelodeon feeds (including Nicktoons and Nick Jr.) had been renewed through at least 2027 which is likely where Paramount MIGHT start pulling the cord on some if not all their linear channels.

I mean Asia did lose a Nickelodeon while as Latin America lost a Nicktoons perhaps a couple of feeds could join before that time but with the recent developments I wouldn't be all that shocked if Paramount followed their competitors in moving their content to streaming.

Nickelodeon To Likely Remain On Air Until At Least 2027

For several months, Paramount has begun reducing the amount of focus invested onto their linear offering. Nicktoons is a prime example as the channel has been overflowing their lineup with SpongeBob SquarePants and a spinoff to The Loud House, The Casagrandes.

The Loud House was getting the same amount of attention as abovementioned shows but no one knows at this point why it fell off the schedule more turn to its censorship at Nickelodeon while others turn to the current offering on Nicktoons mostly scrapped content.

NickMusic which has been more of a hit miss or hit run is the only thing giving Nicktoons life at this point. But with the amount of local music flooding the airwaves I'm sure MTV Base will do a better job pampering the existing lineup in the show.

As mentioned, Paramount seems to be cutting back on their linear channels. It's not only Nicktoons that has been affected but MTV, Comedy Central, BET and Nickelodeon appear to be tagging along as their websites had been wiped off the face of the earth.

Paramount had been gaining more exclusivity to Nickelodeon as the brand shuttered in Asia and watered down in Canada with Nicktoons suffering a similar fate in Latin America. As for Africa, Nicktoons is being treated like MTV Hits - non existent.

As much as the evidence of a potential closure keeps piling up. The sad part to all of that is the channel's licence in some parts of Europe primarily Scandinavia, Poland and Netherlands had been extended for another 5 long and boring years.

As seen on Paramount Africa's websites, most of their feeds had been redirected to these regions primarily Netherlands hinting at the possibility that Nicktoons even sister channels Nickelodeon and Nick Jr could remain on air for another 5 years although their duration is yet to be confirmed.

MultiChoice has halted a lot of channels during the year and this is me hoping that Nicktoons doesn't make it through 2027 unscathed as Da Vinci a channel which is more productive was almost crucified for the JimJam and Baby TV inspired Moonbug Kids.

Recap: Paw Patrol Got A Dedicated Pop-Up Channel On DStv

Earlier this month, a lot of DStv consumers were alarmed to see Paw Patrol take up the whole schedule of Nick Jr I mean a full 2 weeks but what isn't that what PBS Kids did with Arthur a month ago perhaps it's coincidence or this is another indicator to cable becoming obsolete.

A lot of consumers may not be aware but Paramount had often launched pop-up channels dedicated to one of their current shows I mean they had one for Horrid Henry and another for SpongeBob most of these went to Nicktoons in those regions but now it will be a thing in Africa.

As it is, Paramount has been doing a lot of cost cutting for their Nickelodeon channels I mean Nicktoons is on autopilot at this point and Nick Jr. doesn't have much independency as seen already Africa and other parts of the world got 2 weeks of Paw Patrol.

If it's any consolation, Paramount+ is coming to South Africa within the following year and with Asia closing off Nickelodeon and Canadian operators losing exclusivity with Nickelodeon I'm expecting both Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. to become a graveyard for Paramount+.

It's already started with Nickelodeon as they got a lot of Paramount+ originals such as Big Nate, The Fairly OddParents: Fairly Odder, Star Trek: Prodigy and Kamp Koral with Nick Jr. grasping at its straws almost to the point of braindead Nicktoons.

The Paw Patrol Channel is just prove that cable is no longer the centre of attention. I wouldn't mind watching a day's worth of The Loud House but 2 whole weeks is just pushing it.

Hasbro Considering Selling Or Restructuring Its Assets

When Hasbro bought eOne under former CEO and Chairman Brian Goldner, who died unexpectedly last fall, the company was getting both valuable new intellectual properties — including PJ Masks and Peppa Pig — of benefit to its toy business, as well as knowhow in producing entertainment, giving the company a direct channel to cashing in from media made out of its own properties.

“The acquisition of eOne adds beloved story-led global family brands that deliver strong operating returns to Hasbro’s portfolio and provides a pipeline of new brand creation driven by family-oriented storytelling, which will now include Hasbro’s IP,” Goldner explained in a press release at the time. “In addition, Hasbro will leverage eOne’s immersive entertainment capabilities to bring our portfolio of brands … to all screens globally and realize full franchise economics across our blueprint strategy for shareholders.”

With the acquisition, Hasbro’s entertainment revenue jumped from $77.8 million in 2019 to more than $900 million in 2020 and topped $1.1 billion in 2021. The last two years have also brought operating losses in the entertainment division, in part from acquisition costs related to eOne. Hasbro, as Shaw noted, also ran into the disruption to the film and television industry created by the pandemic.

Under new CEO Chris Cocks, Hasbro launched a comprehensive review of its strategy and operations earlier this year as it looks to grow operating profit and focus on multi-generation entertainment.

A Hasbro spokesperson did not comment specifically on the details of the Bloomberg report. “Entertainment is a core foundation at Hasbro,” the company said in an emailed statement. “As part of our strategic review process, we are always open to new and better ways to tell stories and bring people together through the power [of] play via our world-class family of brands.”

In April, Hasbro sold off one major asset from eOne — its music business — for $385 million.

Hasbro this year fended off a brush with activist investment firm Alta Fox, which had put forward a slate of three directors of its choosing to replace some current members of Hasbro’s board. Alta Fox pushed Hasbro to spin off its valuable Wizards of the Coast game business.

The activist firm also took a shot at eOne, saying in February that the acquisition “diluted Hasbro’s shareholders, added a substantial amount of debt to the balance sheet, complicated the investor narrative and destroyed significant value.”

Roundups #50: Dora The Explorer Horror Series Currently Streaming On YouTube, The Bad Guys TV Series Rumoured To Be In Development On DreamWorks And Plants Vs. Zombies Scrapped Feature Film From DreamWorks

Dora The Explorer and Learning With Pibby rip-off

Amanda The Adventurer follows the escapades of the titular character and her sheep friend Woody except it contains more darker themes which is where the Adult Swim original Learning With Pibby tags along.

The project was produced by James Pratt's (Woody) Gaming Design and was meant to give viewers a nostalgic and curiosity feel. The main characters are the centre peace to the whole show with others being plot fillers who are quickly forgotten.

Throughout the show, viewers will be encouraged to help Amanda on her journey if you get the answer wrong she huffs and puffs and as episodes go by you'll see several warning signs until the inevitable end.

The Bad Guys might be coming to a station near you

The #1 movie in the U.S. follows a group of criminal animals who, upon being caught, pretend to attempt to reform themselves as model citizens, only for their leader to find himself genuinely drawn to changing his ways as a new villain has his own plans.

In an interview with Marc Maron (the voice of snake), it was said that a TV series might be in development. A friend of his auditioned for his role and went on to joke about the whole issue. Most of the cast members expressed interest in a sequel.

At the moment, DreamWorks Animation hasn't confirmed anything for The Bad Guys but the idea of a TV series doesn't seem far fetched almost all their movies particularly ones as big as Madagascar and Dragons come with a prequel.

Plants Vs. Zombies movie enters the recycle bin

Plants vs. Zombies is a video game franchise developed by PopCap Games, a subsidiary of Electronic Arts (EA) where players take on the role of a human as they have to defend their home from a couple of mindless zombies.

According to sources, a feature film from DreamWorks Animation was currently underway with several concepts and ideas already planned. The news came at the time the beloved video game alongside Angry Birds were on the verge of extinction.

The first Plants Vs. Zombies game is available on Insidus Games.

Nicktoons Africa Is Dead

Nicktoons Africa has been present in the market for almost 8 years featuring animation already viewed on Nickelodeon and Nick Jr. I haven't followed the channel in a while following its absence of Nick originals and strong focus on acquisitions.

Thought of doing something on the channel following its alignment with Nick Global and the rollout of Paramount+.

As mentioned, Nicktoons was no different to the main feed overseas with the excessive amount of reruns. What made the channel click to other consumers globally was the focus on older animation.

Other regions the channel would just air content that is currently seen on Nickelodeon while the feed that existed in Africa would air shows that haven't been seen on the channel in nearly a decade such as Hey Arnold!, Angry Beavers, Rugrats, Jimmy Neutron and Danny Phantom.

Over the years, the lineup for the channel had constantly shifted which was to be expected considering how the current demographic would eventually age out of the channel and also the fact that reruns don't pull a lot of viewers.

Nicktoons began to air less and less Nick originals and more acquisitions such as My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, Littlest Pet Shop and half of the first season of Pokémon: Sun And Moon but one of the other things that killed the spark was the 4 hour Nick Jr block on top of the already available preschool content on Nicktoons.

To top it all off, even Nickelodeon had a preschool block even added fuel to the fire with its own set of programming. Basically, Nick Jr consisted of 3 channels one which it operates 24/7 while the others operate for only 6 hours.

In 2021, Paramount has been merging several feeds for MTV and Nickelodeon and scrapping various localised feeds and it appears even Nicktoons got a taste of the action.

The channel was using the same graphic designs from its international counterparts then reverted to the U.S. only to switch back to the international designs. Most of the programming seen on the channel is current on Nickelodeon such as Middlemost Post, Lego City Adventures and Barbarian And The Troll.

The only positive thing about this was the reduction of Nick Jrs, now it only broadcasts in the morning and the channel seems to have reverted back to its old ways - REPEATS.

Paramount+ is scheduled to launch in South Africa by early 2023 and Paramount has been scrapping channels that were either irrelevant and aired reruns. Although, there hasn't been a report yet of Nicktoons closing down. It wouldn't surprise me if the one in Africa suffered that fate.

Compared to other Nicktoons, its localised feed is still intact and if you had to browse the various channels under Paramount in Africa. Nicktoons is the only repeats channel on their stable while others despite sharing content weren't created for such task.

Here Are The 25 Developments Coming To Nickelodeon

(You can now share on Facebook)

Nickelodeon at its annual upfront presentation outlined plans to supercharge its franchise strategy through a steady stream of new animation, preschool and live-action content across streaming, linear and digital platforms, at the box office and through innovative location-based experiences like live tours and family festivals.

The news outlined encompasses Nickelodeon’s strategy across franchises, new premium content and live experiences. Specific highlights include:

FRANCHISE EXPANSION
- SpongeBob SquarePants – Incurable optimist SpongeBob SquarePants, Patrick, Sandy, Mr. Krabs, Plankton and Squidward, along with all of the denizens of Bikini Bottom, will plunge into all-new adventures with a 14th season (26 episodes) of the most-watched kids’ animated series for 20 consecutive years. Bikini Bottom continues to expand with more episodes of the first two spinoff series Kamp Koral: SpongeBob’s Under Years and The Patrick Star Show, which was recently picked up for a second season, along with three character-driven movies launching exclusively on Paramount+, and a fourth theatrical release from Nickelodeon Animation currently in development.
- PAW Patrol – Building on the global success of PAW Patrol, Nickelodeon is renewing the global award-winning, top-rated preschool series for a 10th season (26 episodes, produced by Spin Master Entertainment) that will follow the PAW-some pack of pups, including Chase, Marshall, Rubble, Skye, Rocky, Zuma, Everest and Tracker, on even more action-packed rescue missions and adventures--whether it’s deep in the unexplored regions of the jungle or out-of-this-world trouble in Adventure Bay. Coinciding with the property’s 10th anniversary in 2023, is the TV series’ first-ever spinoff centering on Rubble and the release of the movie sequel PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie.

- Baby Shark – The world of global pop culture phenomenon Baby Shark continues to grow with a feature-length movie in development for Paramount+ in the U.S., and an upcoming special episode featuring Grammy Award-winning, multiplatinum superstar Cardi B, and her family, Offset and Kulture, who lend their voices to a special episode of Baby Shark’s Big Show! (co-produced by Nickelodeon Animation and The Pinkfong Company), “The Seaweed Sway,”.
- The Loud House – Nickelodeon Studios is set to begin production on a brand-new original live-action series (10 episodes) based on the Emmy Award-winning animated show, The Loud House, premiering later this year on Paramount+. This follows the success of the live-action movie, A Loud House Christmas, which became TV’s top kids’ entertainment telecast of 2021 when it premiered on Nickelodeon.
- Transformers – Based on the iconic Transformers property, the brand-new animated action-comedy series Transformers: EarthSpark is set to premiere globally on Paramount+ in November. Produced in partnership between Nickelodeon Animation and Hasbro’s Entertainment One (eOne), the series introduces a new generation of Transformers robots--the first Transformers robots to be born on Earth--and together with the human family who welcomes them in and cares for them, they'll redefine what it means to be a family. Following the launch of the series, the franchise continues to expand next summer with Paramount Pictures’ Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, with Steven Caple Jr. directing, and even further with an Untitled Animated Transformers film, with Josh Cooley attached to direct, from Paramount Animation and eOne debuting on July 19, 2024.
- Blue’s Clues & You! – Coming off Blue’s Clues’ milestone 25th anniversary, Nickelodeon has greenlit a fifth season (26 episodes) of Blue’s Clues & You! that will follow Josh (Josh Dela Cruz) and Blue as they skidoo into brand-new adventures, help out in their community, perform show-stopping dance numbers, sing along to original new music and get visits from fan-favorite characters, including Rainbow Puppy, Periwinkle and Magenta. Upcoming highlights for the property include an original movie Blue’s Big City Adventure for Paramount+ and Nickelodeon, and a live tour Blue’s Clues & You! Live on Stage.

ViacomCBS Is Getting A New Name: Paramount

The media behemoth — which was created through the merger of CBS and Viacom in 2019 — said the rebrand is meant to focus on the company’s goal of becoming a major player in streaming. It is also, plainly, just a better name.

Paramount intends to “turn streaming into a sustainable business for the future,” Paramount CEO Bob Bakish said during an investor event this afternoon, “and know this, we are committed to that future and creating that value.”

PARAMOUNT PLUS WILL GET EXCLUSIVE STREAMING RIGHTS BY 2024

The company intends to hit 100 million streaming subscribers by 2024 — up from its previous goal of 65 million to 75 million during the same timeframe. The company plans to further its international expansion and offer mobile-only plans in some regions to hit its aggressive subscription goals. It’ll also start streaming all Paramount movies exclusively on Paramount Plus starting in 2024 in the US, following their theatrical runs.

“We’ve got the passion, the vision, and the discipline to deliver,” Bakish said.

Paramount includes major TV networks, like CBS, Nickelodeon, and MTV; the publisher Simon & Schuster; and its titular film studio. But the company is increasingly focused on streaming, where it has three key brands: Showtime, Pluto TV, and Paramount Plus.

Announcing its fourth-quarter 2021 earnings today, Paramount highlighted the rapid growth of its streaming brands. It now has more than 56 million combined streaming subscribers, and streaming revenue is up 48 percent year over year, hitting $1.3 billion in the holiday quarter. Streaming subscription revenue was up 84 percent, while streaming advertising revenue was up 26 percent.

Paramount announced a huge lineup of upcoming shows and movies headed to its main streaming service to keep that momentum going. That includes a second season of Halo, a Sonic TV series focused on the Idris Elba-voiced Knuckles, and new titles from hits kids properties.

There’ll be a Blue’s Clues movie, a Paw Patrol movie sequel and spinoff TV series, a Dora the Explorer revival, and even a Baby Shark movie (though some films will head to theaters first). Taken together, the company is making a major play to become a must-have subscription for families with young kids.
