COVID-19: Marcus Lamb, Founder Of Daystar TV That Opposed COVID-19 Vaccines Has Passed Away + BVN Has Been Restored In Africa, Could It Return To DStv?

The founder of a global evangelical Christian television network who publicly opposed Covid-19 vaccines has died weeks after he contracted the virus.

The death of 64-year-old Marcus Lamb, the founder and president of the Texas-based Daystar Television Network, was announced Tuesday in a tweet by the conservative network.

"It's with a heavy heart we announce that Marcus Lamb, president and founder of Daystar Television Network, went home to be with the Lord this morning. The family asks that their privacy be respected as they grieve this difficult loss. Please continue to lift them up in prayer."

— Daystar Television (@Daystar) November 30, 2021

Lamb has publicly opposed the available coronavirus vaccines and has instead promoted unproven Covid-19 treatments, Media Matters reported.

"There's no doubt in my mind that this is a spiritual attack from the enemy," Lamb's son Jonathan said about his father's battle with Covid-19 during a broadcast on November 23, Religion News Service reported.

The son added, "As much as my parents have gone on here to kind of inform everyone about everything going on to the pandemic and some of the ways to treat Covid — there's no doubt that the enemy is not happy about that. And he's doing everything he can to take down my Dad.

Marcus Lamb joins a growing list of conservative, anti-vaccine media personalities to have died as a result of COVID-19.

Radio hosts and coronavirus vaccine critics Bob Enyart, Dick Farrel, Phil Valentine, and Marc Bernier all died this year after their battles with the Covid-19.

Other high-profile anti-vaccine advocates to have died this year from the coronavirus include: former CIA officer and conspiracy theorist Robert David Steele, anti-mask rally organiser Caleb Wallace, and South Carolina GOP conservative leader Pressley Stutts.

BVN RETURNS TO ASTRA 4A SATELLITES

BVN returned from 25 October 2021 via the
Astra 4A satellites (for the middle and South Africa) found an alternative to the SES-5 (stopped on May 1, 2021). "This technology on the Astra 4a was possible as less bandwidth was used for broadcast without a loss of quality."

Unfortunately, the owners had to distribute BVN on few satellites and affected markets had to resort to streaming in order to find these shows.

International Educational And Entertainment Programme National Geographic Kids Coming To Africa In 2022

Geographic Kids Africa, which focuses on developing local content surrounding the environment, conservation, and associated topics important to children and their communities. The project aims to inspire and promote behaviour change in its audiences. To protect the world in which they live through engendering a deeper understanding of the natural environment.

The undertaking includes a 26-part television series to be shot primarily in East Africa but with additional filming in West and Southern Africa. The series will be produced by The Walt Disney Company, in association with Kenya-based WildlifeDirect. WildlifeDirect will collaborate on research and creative approaches. National Geographic Kids Africa will air across the continent on National Geographic Wild. It will extend into engaging digital platforms that further explore biodiversity, wildlife and the natural world, and the threats and challenges experienced.

Extending the reach of the National Geographic Kids Africa initiative further, a community outreach project will be launched by implementation partner WildlifeDirect across East Africa, aiming to encourage learners from 200 schools to make a lasting impact on the conservation of species-rich landscapes. By investing in knowledge and skills, through tools such as conservation hubs, educational resources, bespoke educator training and more, the outreach program aims to develop a passionate community of young explorers with the fascination and desire to protect their continent and their world.

National Geographic Kids Africa will be produced entirely in Africa by African storytellers. The stories, leadership and expertise of African conservationists and communities will be prominently featured.

The US Department of State, US Embassies, and local partners in Africa will enhance this initiative through multiple academic, cultural, and professional exchanges. The Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs’ people-to-people exchange programs will support professional development and skills sharing across sectors, including conservation, the creative industries, tourism and sustainable practices. Exchange programs create lasting connections and harness attention on conservation and the importance of protecting the natural world. The Department’s Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs will continue to lead diplomatic efforts to expand and strengthen policy and programs to conserve and protect nature.

Christine Service, General Manager of The Walt Disney Company Africa, adds:

“For over 133 years, the core mission of National Geographic has been to ignite the explorer in everyone through thought-provoking, fact-based storytelling from scientists, explorers, photographers and filmmakers. This initiative will bring children from across the continent into the conversation and, in doing so, energize the next generation of environmental advocates through this innovative and engaging programme.”

Says Dr Paula Kahumbu, CEO of WildlifeDirect:

“We are deeply humbled and proud to be working with some of the world’s greatest institutions, the US Department of State, USAID, Disney and National Geographic, to transform conservation outcomes in Africa by inspiring people in Africa and around the world through the authentic voices of Africa's young heroes. This series is a first in so many ways, not least the unique partnership but also because of outreach efforts which will deliver a positive impact on nature across the region.”

In addition to amplifying local voices around conservation, the National Geographic Kids Africa initiative supports vital policy goals in addressing the twin crises of climate change and biodiversity loss. US climate and conservation diplomacy aspires to realize economic growth, energy security, and a healthy planet. The loss of nature and her gifts affect all people, and bold action to tackle these twin crises is more urgent than ever.
By engaging the next generation, National Geographic Kids Africa is a critical part of this effort. The series will tell the story of forward-thinking climate and conservation action in inspiring ways. It will highlight the work of African children across the continent and encourage others in Africa to make a difference in their way.

Says Matthew Lussenhop, Acting Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, US Department of State:

“A key element of our charge is to address the environmental, social, political, and economic challenges we all face. We look forward to enhancing this important initiative with people-to-people exchanges to inspire and connect the next generation of conservationists, filmmakers and leaders in Africa who will create lasting change to protect their natural environment. This partnership represents an innovative way forward to address some of the most pressing issues of our time.”

USAID’s conservation programming plays a critical role in ensuring the world’s most vulnerable people can secure their health and well-being while managing and conserving their natural wealth. Through partnerships with governments, communities, and the private sector in 60 countries, USAID works to protect biological systems and improve the lives of people who depend on them. These conservation activities also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase carbon storage. USAID’s nature-based solutions are building people’s resilience, priority ecosystems, and economies to climate change.

Says Karl Fickenscher, Acting Assistant Administrator of the Bureau for Development, Democracy, and Innovation (DDI), USAID:

“National Geographic Kids Africa embodies USAID's new vision for global development that combines working together with our US State Department colleagues, our private sector partner, The Walt Disney Company, and our local Kenyan partner WildlifeDirect. We could not be prouder to stand alongside them, and perhaps most importantly, alongside the students, young environmentalists, and kids from communities across Africa, who will work to protect and conserve the world around them— today and in the future.”

The goal is partnering with African filmmakers to tell African stories around conservation and environmental themes to reach African and global audiences. In addition, National Geographic Kids Africa will further advance The Walt Disney Company’s longstanding commitment to environmental stewardship, which goes back to its founding more than 90 years ago. Walt Disney himself said that: “conservation isn’t just the business of a few people. It’s a matter that concerns all of us.” National Geographic Kids Africa is another way The Walt Disney Company focuses on helping to protect the planet.
Currently, in pre-production, the National Geographic Kids Africa programme is set for a mid-to-late 2022 rollout across Africa.

More Play And Laughter As Boomerang Joins GOtv’s Offering!

Iconic animated shows like Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes Cartoons and Mr. Bean have found a new home in Africa with the launch of Boomerang on GOtv. Home to your favourite cartoon characters, Boomerang Africa, is now accessible on the pre-existing GOtv MAX package in Kenya and Uganda and the brand-new GOtv SUPA premium offering, available in Kenya, Uganda, Ghana, Zambia, Namibia, Mozambique, and Malawi.

“We’re excited to be increasing Boomerang’s African footprint not only on GOtv MAX but also on the new offering, GOtv SUPA, seeing it in more homes than ever before,” says Bertrand Schontz, WarnerMedia’s Senior Distribution Director: France, Africa and Israel.

Boomerang is the perfect place for kids and parents to laugh together at the shows and characters they both know and love. Mr. Bean, Tom and Jerry, and Masha and the Bear once again made it to the list of Coolest Cartoon Shows in the 2021 Sunday Times GenNext Awards, so it isn’t surprising that the channel pulls viewership figures of more than 12,2 million every month in South Africa alone. Besides bringing a modern twist to iconic cartoons, Boomerang Africa also has a rich offering of multi-layered adventure shows and original productions and acquisitions such as Grizzy and the Lemmings, Ninja Express, Zig and Sharko … and many more!

“We are very proud to have Boomerang rank as South Africa’s #2 most popular kids’ channel in 2021, and we’re intent on spreading the laughter and adventure far and wide. It is an iconic brand with content that continues to cement itself in the hearts of our young viewers,” says Ariane Suveg, WarnerMedia’s Head of Kids Channels: France, Africa and Israel.

Notes:

Boomerang is available on GOtv on channel 68 (and channel 155 in Ghana and channel 357 in Uganda) on the following packages:
· MAX (pre-existing package) in Kenya & Uganda
· SUPA (new premium package) in Kenya / Uganda / Ghana / Zambia / Namibia / Mozambique / Malawi

December 2021 On Disney Africa | MultiChoice Carry The Channels Through 2024 | New Series Alert: Ghostforce FINALLY Airs On Disney Channel Alongside A New Festive Movie | Disney Junior Continues On From November With A Little Help | More Content To Get You In The Festive Spirit

The Walt Disney Company has renewed their contract with MultiChoice through 2024 meaning viewers have another 2 years to enjoy Disney Channel and Disney Junior once Disney+ launches in South Africa.

Later this year, The Walt Disney Company announced plans to close off 100 channels internationally by the end of 2021 and who would have guessed that being those markets that are almost last in everything could work in our favor.

Disney+ launched in 2019 and South Africa has to wait till June 2022 with the rest of Africa possibly waiting till 2023 so the deadline only seemed logical considering the timeframe.

If I had to guess, Disney Channel and Disney Junior will likely go off air by the end of 2023 (December 31st, 2023 at 23:59; round it off it takes you to 2024). By then Disney+ should be available in most African markets if not all as yet kind of similar to Asia.

High School Musical (Friday 3rd December at 17:00) Troy is best known as the player who keeps the East High basketball team on the scoreboard. Of course, life isn't always about athletics, though, and as Troy slam dunks on the boards, beautiful and brainy Gabriella is raising the reputation of East High as the key member of the school's successful academic team. Despite their outgoing natures, no one would ever peg Troy and Gabriella as theatre types. When word gets out that this popular pair has secretly chosen to reach for the stars and try their luck on the stage, the students of East High are about to learn an important lesson in teamwork while gearing up for a musical performance that will have their audience dancing in the aisles.

High School Musical 2 (Friday, 10th December at 17:00) The "Wildcats" of East High School are ready for fun now that they are on summer break. Troy is thrilled when he is offered a job at a club, but it's all part of Sharpay's plan to keep him from Gabriella. How will it all end? All questions will be resolved in the club's Talent Night.

Miraculous New York: United Heroez (Friday, 17th December at 17:00) Marinette’s class heads to New York, the city of superheroes, for French-American Friendship Week. The whole class is there except Adrien, whose father refuses to let him go!

In Christmas Again (Friday 24th December at 17:00), Rowena “Ro” is a high-spirited teenager who is experiencing a lacklustre Christmas. Ro isn’t handling her parents’ divorce well. She wants her life back the way it was—her parents back together, her dad’s new girlfriend and son out of the picture, and their family traditions to remain the same. After a disappointing celebration with her family, including her sister Gabriela “Gabby,” Abuela Sofia and Abuelo Hector, she makes a wish to a neighbourhood Santa for a “do-over” and unexpectedly finds herself reliving Christmas day over and over … and over again. Now, in order to break the strange magical loop, Ro must learn to appreciate her loving family as it is, as well as the true meaning of Christmas.

Cheetah Girls (Friday, 31st December at 17:00)
Four New York teens facing the challenges of growing up as they dance and sing their way toward that elusive record deal. As the girls are gearing up to rehearse for the school talent competition, they're discovered by famous record producer Jackal Johnson. But the feisty foursome soon learns that their big break is not what they expected. Jackal wants to remake them into something they're not. Ultimately, the path to stardom challenges their friendship and the girls must find a way to come together in order to achieve their dreams.
