New Series Alert (Rumour): Law Of Love + Rubi + Queen Of The South Season 3 + Lord Of The Skies Season 8 Coming Soon To TLNovelas And Telemundo Africa Respectively

Last year, a lot of productions were unveiled for both Telemundo (DStv 118) and TLNovelas (DStv 133) and due to some technicalities only a portion of content was unveiled for the brands with more content set to be addressed in the coming future.

Although, we can't share too much at the moment a little birdie has been going around spreading a bunch of rumours about the following projects.

Upcoming:

1. Law Of Love (Por Amar Sin Ley)

Based on the 2016 Colombian telenovela La Ley Del Corazon which viewers on Telemundo would recognise as Law Of The Heart, the telenovela revolves around the personal life and work of a group of lawyers belonging to a prestigious law firm. It stars Ana Brenda Contreras, David Zepeda, Julián Gil, José María Torre Hütt and Sergio Basañez.

It is said to make a debut around the same period as item number 2.

Everyday Novelas:
Decisions is making a comeback on Telemundo
Forbidden Passion season 2 not moving forward on Telemundo
Nurses returns for a season 3
The origin story of Forbidden Passion

2. Rubi

Based on the 2004 Mexican telenovela of the same name, Rubi follows the titular character who through the guidance of her friend tells the story about how she isolated herself from the rest of the world. It stars Camila Sodi, José Ron, Rodrigo Guirao, Kimberly Dos Ramos, Ela Velden and Tania Lizardo.

It is anticipated to launch between the 2023/4 period.

3. Queen Of The South Season 3

After four years in prison in the United States for the deaths of three DEA agents, Teresa Mendoza escapes but will have to face a world full of conspiracy, risking her life in order to clear her name and reunite with her daughter Sofía.

It is said to occupy the timeslot used for shows like Hidden Passions and The Chosen Granddaughter or move to Lord Of The Skies timeslot depending on how long it may take to get season 8.

4. Lord Of The Skies Season 8

The season centers on the return of Aurelio Casillas, who supposedly died at the beginning of the previous season after falling into a coma following an attempt on his life. It is only the DEA who knows that Aurelio is alive, having hidden him in the desert. In enacting his plan of revenge, Aurelio establishes connections with old allies, while also facing new romances and uncovering family mysteries.

It is said to come immediately after the rebroadcast of the show depending on how soon they are able to get the show.

New Series Alert: New Superheroine Jade Armor Brings Her Kung Fu To Cartoon Network

All-action Kung fu superhero series Jade Armor kicks and spins its way into the Cartoon Network lineup on Monday 16 January at 17:25 CAT, bringing a new dose of girl power to the channel every weekday.

Our hero, Lan Jun, is a typical teenage girl, leading a typical teenage life. She lives with her family above the Kwoon, a Kung Fu training studio run by her grandmother, Gram, and great-grandmother, Gram Gram. One day, a mysterious package arrives, containing an ornate jade wrist cuff. The second she puts it on, she is covered in armour that feels as though it was made just for her – and levels up her Kung fu talents, with it.

Insidus Games:
- Powerpuff Girls Snowboarding
- Baby Felix Halloween
- Looney Tunes Monster Match
- Thor: The Dark World

With the mysterious Jade Armor comes great responsibility, as Lan Jun finds herself transformed into the latest in a long line of superheroes. Helping her fight an evil array of supervillains are four mystical creature sidekicks – the Beasticons – who have to learn to work with a teenager for the first time.

Her best friends, Alisha and Theo, often help her out as she battles evil forces – and the challenges of teenage life – but is her grandmother her connection to the mysterious armour and its awesome responsibilities?

Real WuShu (Kung fu) stunt artists - all former French WuShu team members - were used to model the Kung fu combat on Jade Armor, to ensure it is as realistic as possible. The show is about more than ‘fight scenes’, though - Lan Jun’s story is inspired by Chinese mythology and has the message of all martial arts at its heart: ‘learn to fight so you don’t have to fight and understand the vanity and the uselessness of violence’. The show also brings laughter with absurd and comedic situations which break up the tension from the high-stakes storyline!

Zia Bales, Lead Acquisitions, Partnerships and Co-productions, Kids EMEA, WarnerMedia says that Jade Armor is a serialized coming of age story it showcases the superheroine as she navigates learning her family's ancient secrets to uncovering the truth. “Lan Jun is the embodiment of girl power – a female superheroine balancing her newfound responsibilities with the demands of teenage life. We’re excited to bring this strong female lead to Cartoon Network and broadening our appeal with girls”.

Pending Development: More e.tv Coming Soon To DStv Once eToonz, eExtra, eMovies And eMovies Extra Exit The DStv Platform

Last year, MultiChoice made plans to terminate eMedia Investments' 4 channels eExtra, eToonz, eMovies and eMovies Extra by the end of the first quarter of that year only to be delayed to the second quarter as the pay-tv operator was going through court proceedings.

Initially, MultiChoice had won the case as these channels went dark for about two months only to resurface as the pay-tv company were advised to hold on to these channels for another 6 months which take viewers to the first quarter of 2023.

As advised, no dates were shared as to when exactly these channels will go dark exactly but my guess between January to March likely not even in the third month depending on how the court conceives 6 months.

eMedia Investments:
- Glow TV to stop airing on the Openview platform from next month
Prediction: eToonz to get an additional channel
Could Openview+ lead to 24 hour capability of these channels?
eToonz schedule explained

If the court made their ruling earlier than 6 months than MultiChoice would have pulled the rug out of everyone's noses as seen last year leaving consumers with e.tv, eNCA and the Afrikaans news bulletins on kykNET.

MultiChoice managed to find replacements for these 4 channels in some manner with the launch of Movie Room, DreamWorks and kykNET's Turkish offering on kykNET & Kie alongside expanding the likes of PBS Kids and KIX.

But consumers wishing to see their favourite characters or at least a portion of the content can tune into the following on e.tv:

- Elif, Verdeelde Liefde and Wrede Stad weekdays in the 8:30 AM timeslot with Voëlvry weeknights (excluding Friday) at 23:00. Further shows such as #DisComplicated and Die Put would be made available in these timeslots.
- The Craze block features various animated shows on eToonz such as Pokémon, Peppa Pig, Gabby's Dollhouse, Regal Academy and Fast And The Furious: Spy Racers.
- Movies can be found on Fridays at 14:30 and 22:00, weekend afternoons at 2pm and from 8pm and during the week in the night owl slots in between the 12am to 5am slot.

What Consumers Should Be Concerned About Regarding SABC's Yet To Be Launched Channels On DStv?
Press Release: DStv Welcomes The Launch Of Quincy Jones’ QWEST TV Onto Screens This Month

Here's the downside:

- For those wishing to see Ice Adonis and The Rebel Princess on eExtra would need to get an Openview decoder and selected content can only be viewed on eVOD at this point.
- As for the Bollywood section of eExtra, it's basically become a hub for Zee World's leftovers or yet to be seen programs. For those on lower bouquets would just need to upgrade to the relevant package to watch the content or get Openview or eVOD for selected content.
- eToonz isn't only an animation brand but there's various live-action series on including Bajillionaires, Make It Pop and Hank Zipzer. As advised, certain content would need you to have the relevant package or to pursue the necessary alternative.
- As for movies, there's plenty of fish in the sea it's up to you on whether you want to catch one or not.

Exploring your remote control:

MultiChoice offers a variety of entertainment for the whole family if you're looking for movies turn to TNT, Movie Room and M-Net Movies, want some romance and drama turn to Telemundo, Star Life and Zee World and lastly the kiddies could always search on Cartoon Network, JimJam and CBeebies.

Could SABC Be Unveiling Another Two Channels Possibly On Openview Ultra, Here's Why?

For several weeks, eMedia Investments has been teasing consumers with the launch of Openview Ultra (formerly known as Openview+) which serves the pay tier to the current Openview platform for which the broadcaster is expected to unveil later in the year.

As consumers await the launch of Openview Ultra, eMedia Investments had reserved the area for 4 yet to be launched channels in the slots of channels 241, 242, 301 and 302 and as some had noticed not which muchs are available in the mentioned slots until recently.

eMedia Investments had placed SABC 2 and SABC 3 in the test channel section. Although, this may not mean much SABC 1 was often used as a test pilot for SABC Encore so it's possible that maybe SABC 2 and SABC 3 are just placeholders for other channels.

eMedia Investments:
- Glow TV to stop airing on the Openview platform from next month
Prediction: eToonz to get an additional channel
Could Openview+ lead to 24 hour capability of these channels?
eToonz schedule explained

They are still awaiting for the SABC to drop the two entertainment channels which would explore their forever rich archives while SABC Sport and their 19 radio stations reside on the Openview platform.

The public broadcaster launched a second news channel before the end of the current financial year, SABC eKhaya which would cater to local languages formerly seen on the SABC News channel before it's expansion to other African markets.

SABC 2 does seem like the ideal placeholder for this channel as it was advised that the channel would dwell more into current affairs for which there's plenty of on this supposed channel.

As for SABC 3, not much is known at this point my hunch would be that rumoured SABC Encore/Children might fill up this slot as seen occasionally with SABC 1 as the public broadcaster had expressed interest in a revival although they had been no updates since then.

Could SABC Encore revival be scrapped?

Reminder: Glow TV Will Stop Airing On The Openview Platform From February 2023 With Questions Regarding The Brand's Presence On StarSat

This has been expected for a while now especially after the whole chaos with its removal on the DStv platform so all that is left at the moment is StarSat.

Glow TV is a South African based entertainment channel which promotes Bollywood culture through drama series, movies, reality shows, news, kids shows and even local productions from the likes of Denver Naicker.

Over the years, the likes of Zee TV's Zee World and Zee One alongside Star Life have slowly started edging out the presence already established by Glow TV that led to its cancellation on both DStv and by next month Openview.

Both providers went through legal issues of which Nismedia won in regards to Openview as they unlawfully removed before their contract could even expire. As for DStv, it's pay-tv operator defamed them in terms of viewership despite not giving any proof.

eMedia Investments:
Prediction: eToonz to get an additional channel
Could Openview+ lead to 24 hour capability of these channels?
eToonz schedule explained

It's only outlet StarSat happens to be a sinking ship, firstly most of Glow's audiences were on the above-mentioned platforms meaning that's where most of their revenue resides and with the chop it means the brand would have to make several cutbacks in order to stay afloat.

I for one wouldn't be shocked if StarSat followed eventually not because Glow TV offers more repeats than other Bollywood channel but for similar reasons to the latter two - competition which this platform has plenty of on top of already cutting back on 30+ channels.

Now would be a perfect time to find other ways to build your presence perhaps another streaming service or a partnership similar to one currently offered with StarSat on their StarTimes GO app.

As for replacements, Zee One was added to the Openview platform to replace Glow TV in 2021 prior to that Star Life replaced the channel on DStv.

If it's any consolation both outlets will be adding more channels in the coming future with Qwest TV launching on DStv and Openview Ultra testing out 4 new channels.

Aside from Glow TV, eToonz, eMovies, eMovies Extra and eExtra are anticipated to suffer the same fate on the DStv platform around the same timeframe as they were only bundled to the platform for 6 months and replaced early.

BBC To Close Linear Channels And Move Into An Internet-Only Digital Future

The BBC is to have “fewer linear broadcast services” in the next decade as it “consolidates activity under one simple, single brand,” Director General Tim Davie has revealed, as he unveiled a blueprint for a digitally-led Public Service Broadcaster.

Davie didn’t elaborate during an RTS talk this morning but Deadline understands it could be several years until the move is enacted. The speech signalled the start of a shift to taking linear-channels online only that will start over the next decade, as Davie prepares for a digital future.

“The BBC will focus its effort on the digital world and over time this will mean fewer linear broadcast services and a more tailored joined up online offer,” said the DG. He stressed “live linear is here for the long term.”

Some of this has already started happening, added Davie, who pointed to the controversial move to combine the BBC News Channel with BBC World News. BBC Four, meanwhile, still exists but has stopped commissioning original programing. To many people’s surprise, youth-skewing BBC Three went in the opposite direction, relaunching as a linear channel earlier this year.

- Acorn TV Closing Down By The End Of The Year In South Africa, Still No Clue If AMC+ Will Launch In The Market
- MultiChoice: "Why Premium Customers Might Lose Out On A Certain New Channel?"

Another way in which the BBC could “unite under a single brand” would be through combining iPlayer with Sport and podcast apps, for example, with more information on this activity due in the new year.

Davie, who has been in post two years now, stressed the need for more investment to lead the BBC into an internet-only digital future.

“Inevitably all this requires another choice and that is to actively, dare I say happily, invest in the BBC,” he added, in the speech to grandees, journalists and commentators in Central London. “Moving to digital is not the challenge in of itself, moving to digital while not losing most of your audience and burning millions of pounds unnecessarily is the challenge.”

His talk came a day after UK Culture Secretary Michelle Donelan said it is “impossible” for the license fee to remain the BBC’s funding model after 2027 and a review is currently taking place into the corporation’s future funding.

Beyond the increase of commercial outfit BBC Studios’ debt limit, more partnerships and loosened regulation, Davie struggled to put his finger on how the BBC will be able to attract the necessary capital for the transformation.

He said the BBC’s current £5.3B ($6.4B) annual income can just about keep the corporation afloat with prices soaring and the license fee frozen for the next two years.

“The bigger conversation here is whether we are OK to get into the 2030s to protect PSB,” he added. “If you look across the world, [media companies] are struggling to raise revenue. There will be a massive strain but we believe we can maintain universality and scale in UK.”

His blueprint for a thriving digitally-led PSB is four-pronged: “owning a move to an internet-only future with greater urgency,” “transforming the BBC faster,” “proactively investing in the BBC brand” and “moving faster to regulate for future success.”

By this method, Davie said the pubcaster will avoid “simply drifting to the point where the emergence of vast U.S. and Chinese players marginalize us while we put on a very British brave face as they do so.”

Part of the push involves owning more IP, an area that Davie stressed is far more important than having studio space.

“We need to own IP and find the writers who own them,” he declared. “This is a bigger question than who is operating the most effective shed [studio space]. Those sheds are brilliant at skills and apprenticeships but they are not going to underpin the future – that’s about IP and ownership.”
