[PRESS RELEASE]: AEW Rampage On TNT Africa, Cartoon Network Africa's Third Dance Show And Tom And Jerry In New York On Boomerang Africa

TNT to bring down the house with brand-new AEW Rampage

Walking the walk is what TNT is all about; tailormade for African fans, TNT offers the best of contemporary and Hollywood blockbusters, with programming built on an action-driven, pulse-raising slate. So, where there’s action, best believe TNT is leading the pack! That’s why wrestling fans are in for an exhilarating surprise this spring when TNT Africa, launches All Elite Wrestling (AEW) Rampage across the African continent on Saturday, the 2nd of October @ 10:00 CAT.

An electrifying show featuring the hottest stars of today and tomorrow, showcasing their athleticism, charisma and creativity on the fastest rising stage in all of professional wrestling, AEW Rampage joins TNT with the existing AEW Dynamite, turning TNT into a live wrestling territory.

There are more thrills in store for die-hard wrestling fans as legendary professional wrestler, Mark Henry, otherwise known as ‘The World’s Strongest Man’, enters the fray as a commentator on AEW Rampage as well as a scout, coach and mentor at AEW. The former US Olympic athlete held down a 25-year career in WWE where he was a two-time world champion.

Joining him on the screen is Johannesburg born, 33-year-old Angelico (Adam Bridle), who brings an undeniable South African flavour to All Elite Wrestling. In recent months, Angelico’s star has risen significantly on the AEW rankings since being featured on AEW Dynamite. His first AEW appearance was at the inaugural Double or Nothing event as part of The Hybrid 2 with Jack Evans.  Since then, Angelico has continued to impress in tag team matches and singles competition — most notably in an intense match against Cody Rhodes on AEW Dynamite in December 2020.

The newest and coolest wrestling promotion in the world is also here to make an unforgettable, showstopping entrance with a non-stop, back-to-back eight-episode premiere on the day of the launch from 10:00 until 16:30 (CAT). Viewers can then watch a brand-new episode of AEW: Rampage every Saturday after that, and to end off the #WrestlingWeekendsonTNT, on Sundays, still get a dose of fan favourite, AEW Dynamite. And good news for DStv subscribers. Suppose you miss the weekly episodes on DStv; for the first time, all AEW episodes will be available on DStv Catch Up the same day following the channel premiere.

“We are excited to bring AEW Rampage to our loyal wrestling fans. The reception to AEW Dynamite was proof that our audiences were hungry for raw, authentic, athletic content. Rampage is going to take that viewing experience a few levels higher,” says Guillermo Farré, Head of the WarnerMedia General Entertainment channels across France, Iberia and Africa.

Brand-new CN Dance Challenge show is popping and locking its way to Cartoon Network!

If you’re struggling to see past the heavy cloud of dust rising around Cartoon Network this October, don’t be alarmed! That’s because the coolest kids’ channel will be turning up the volume, bumping up the beats, and serving some serious moves with the brand-new CN Dance Challenge launching from Saturday, 2nd  of October at 09:15 CAT!!

Following three successful seasons of Cartoon Network’s Pop Up Party, this new original and exciting dancing series brings on two super-talented animated dance instructors, Anwuli and Kingsley. Every week, Anwuli and Kingsley will ‘pop up’ on-air - and on www.CartoonNetworkAfrica.com - with a new African-inspired dance routine created using an exciting mix of exclusive CN Dance Challenge music tracks for kids to follow. Every week, there will also be a surprise battle with either Anwuli or Kingsley and a kid who managed to crack the dance from the week before in their own unique style.

With Shaku Shaku, Shakara, Ngimuhle, Cat Dance and many more Afro-dances, viewers will feel like they have taken a trip around the continent! Anwuli and Kingsley will stop at nothing to get everyone on their feet and put their best foot forward as they join the Cartoon Network dance crew!

True to its mission to work with African creators to bring audiences across the continent content that is authentic and feels like home, Cartoon Network worked with talented Nigerian director-animator Benjamin Sokomba Dahzi, popularly known as Bennydee. Dahzi used his cutting-edge innovative motion capture techniques to bring the two characters to life. “I’m really excited to have partnered with Cartoon Network on this project and admire the commitment the brand is making to unearth and develop African talent,” he says.

“At Cartoon Network, we are committed to getting closer to our audience, and with the incredible audience response to our last three dance shows across South Africa and Kenya, we wanted to continue showcasing some incredible African kids' talents while contributing to the development of local animation,” says Ariane Suveg Head of Kids channels Africa, France and Israel.

“At the same time, we wanted to create something new and innovative. This culminated in the creation of two animated characters, especially for this new show in collaboration with a fantastic African talent from Nigeria, Benjamin Dahzi!" she adds.

Are you ready to bust some moves, dance up a storm and impress in Cartoon Network’s (dance) battle? Head on over to Cartoon Network Africa on Saturday, 2 October @ 09:15 CAT to find out!

Boomerang lives it up in New York with Tom and Jerry!

Winning the hearts of millions is no easy feat, but after more than 80 years and countless accolades, the iconic duo, Tom and Jerry,  are back, better than ever, leaving the suburbs behind for new escapades in New York City.

To say Tom and Jerry have been around the block would be the understatement of the century! This pair, who love to hate each other, have been around the globe, gone through time travel, into outer space, down every nook and cranny imaginable, and are now running wild in Manhattan. From Monday, 04th of October, Boomerang Africa will premiere Tom and Jerry in New York, the show parents have been waiting for to introduce their kids to.

Follow our favourite cat and mouse as they settle into their new digs at the Royal Gate Hotel and unleash mayhem across The Big Apple, inciting hilarious chaos uptown, downtown, and everywhere their manic escapades take them. So, best believe, Central Park, giant museums, department stores, and even subway cars will be turned upside down, inside out or just be totally annihilated in this brand-new Tom and Jerry series!

All these chases and games have not been in vain; in fact, with their lengthy history on the small and big screen, Tom and Jerry continue to bring on the childhood nostalgia and fresh memories with equal measure. The two have also been over-achievers in their own unique way, having garnered 13 Oscar nominations for best short subject cartoon and winning seven of them in the franchise’s history. Plus, they did all that without even saying much; legend has it that the first time Tom and Jerry spoke at length was in their 1992 feature film. It does not get any more iconic than that!

Get excited for the hilarious return of everyone’s favourite frenemies, as Tom and Jerry in New York premieres on Monday, 4 October at 07:25 CAT on Boomerang Africa!
