Canal+ Reportedly Delaying Production Of Local Content On KykNET And Mzansi Magic

As some people may recall, Canal+ took control of MultiChoice by late 2025 and are planning to save up at R7.5 billion in costs by 2030. This prompted them not to acquire the Winter Olympics on SuperSport and abandon HBO on M-Net.

Despite what anyone thinks about Canal+, let's face it MultiChoice has been losing subscribers and the French are just doing the heavy lifting. Several insiders had stated that consumers should expect more cuts during the course of the year.

But then most consumers are kind of curious as to whether they'll be a price increase and if not why they should continue to pay more for even less now.

We're already halfway into February and now there's reports that production on local content has been paused/delayed. This is because Canal+ is slashing costs at MultiChoice with efforts being redirected from Johannesburg to Paris.

According to reports, numerous contracts for local series and soap operas are unsigned by Canal+. This would explain why there has yet to be word whether iThonga is getting renewed as the first season concludes this month on Mzansi Magic.

There's fears that Canal+ will prioritize on foreign series as seen with the recently added show on KykNET, The Landman. This part shouldn't come as a shocker because the owners are based in France and majority of content is dubbed there.

MultiChoice has been leaning toward this path post the takeover as seen with Zee Zonke and Star Khanya. Even international brands like Cartoon Network and Cartoonito are also starting to dub animated shows to Zulu.

This delay has also led some to believe that Canal+ will further reduce primetime in favour of archived material such as Isibaya on Mzansi Magic.

The Loud House is an American animated sitcom created by Chris Savino that premiered on Nickelodeon on May 2, 2016. It featured the voices of Grant Palmer, Collin Dean, Tex Hammond, Asher Bishop, Bentley Griffin, Sawyer Cole and Nick A. Fisher.

Synopsis for The Loud House

Lincoln Loud is the middle child and only boy in a family of eleven children residing in the fictional town of Royal Woods, Michigan. He has ten sisters, each with a distinctive personality: bossy eldest child Lori, ditzy fashionista Leni, musician Luna, comedian Luan, athletic Lynn Jr., gloomy poetic goth Lucy, polar opposite twins Lana and Lola, child genius Lisa, and baby Lily. Lincoln often breaks the fourth wall to explain to the viewers the chaotic conditions and sibling relationships of the household, and continually devises plans to make his life in the Loud House better.

During the first four seasons, Lori, Leni, Luna, and Luan were in high school, Lynn was in middle school, and Lincoln, Lucy, Lana, Lola, and Lisa were in elementary school. In the fifth season, the Loud siblings aged up a year, with Lori entering college, Lincoln going to middle school, and Lily starting preschool.

The Loud House premiered on Nickelodeon on May 2, 2016 and has since then gone on for at least 10 seasons with over 290+ episodes. Not long ago, it was reported that The Loud House would be returning for a season 11.

Kevin Sullivan who served as a writer on The Loud House had announced his departure from the network after 22 years. Prior to The Loud House, he had done some work on Nickelodeon's other shows like Danny Phantom and The Fairly OddParents.
According to him, The Loud House had been cancelled which is what led to his exit from the network. While this can't be regarded to some as confirmation it should be noted that Paramount got out of a corporate buyout in 2025.

This led to cancellations of Ridiculousness and Catfish: The TV Show on MTV both of which were the longest running shows on the network. One of the two being Catfish was silently axed before Paramount gave official confirmation.

While things for The Loud House has yet to be addressed, Nickelodeon has been shortening the seasons for their shows. What is regarded as season 11 for The Loud House was originally intended to be the second half of season 9.

Nicktoons, an animation channel operated by Paramount Global that airs reruns to various shows from its sister network, Nickelodeon has acquired rights to Pinky Malinky. After failing to launch to Nickelodeon, Netflix served as it's frontier.

Pinky Malinky premiered on January 1, 2019, on Netflix with a New Year's-themed short released just before. It also concluded during the year with 60 episodes across 3 seasons and for the past 7 years was available on the streamer.

With the licensing deal set to expire soon, Pinky Malinky will have its first exclusive run on Nicktoons from April 20. It is currently unknown when or if Pinky Malinky would eventually be made available on Nickelodeon

Synopsis for Pinky Malinky

Pinky Malinky is an infectiously positive, optimistic 12-year-old middle school student who just happens to be a walking, talking hot dog. He lives in the town of Sackenhack and sees the bright side of everything — even being born a hot dog. The show follows his everyday life and misadventures as he tries to climb the social ladder, pursue big ideas, and navigate typical kid problems alongside his two best friends (BFFs).

The series is presented in a mockumentary/fly-on-the-wall "reality show" format (similar to The Office), with characters occasionally breaking the fourth wall in confessionals. Pinky is full of enthusiasm, makes social media videos, sings, dances, and tackles challenges with his friends — though his extreme positivity sometimes leads to funny mishaps.
