Thanks to TVSA, we got confirmation that SABC 3's local soap opera, The Estate will start from scratch on SABC 1 from Monday 6 September at 19:30.
This comes as the show's viewership continues to plummet following the success of e.tv's new soap, House Of Zwide last month.
SABC 3 has been struggling to pull in viewers for over a decade and it looks like the SABC is starting to catch a wake-up.
Many parties purpose that they turn SABC 3 into another Encore channel with content moving between SABC 1 and 2 or close it off the channel now that they're planning to launch more channels but that ain't happening anytime soon or at least for now.
The Estate seems like a very promising successor to Isidingo but the problem here was the station. Like TVSA said, it should have never aired there in the first place now you see the consequences of SABC's actions.
"Producing a daily local show takes huge amounts of money so it needs to be on a channel with a consistent and higher viewership to pay the bills.", says TVSA.
That's why The Estate is starting from scratch on SABC 1 with new episodes continuing on SABC 3.
TVSA does give a lot of good and similar suggestions for the SABC:
1. SABC1 needs the content. As many of us have expressed before, the current SABC set-up doesn't make sense because there are three channels, there's not enough new content for all of them and S3 and SABC2 are constantly being hijacked for sport. It would make things so much simpler and more financially viable if S3 became the sports channel with a distribution of its content between SABC 1 and 2.
2. A reinvented Expresso could move to 1, Afternoon Express and the wildlife shows could move to 2 and the internationals would be later at night on either.
