New Series Alerts: Happy Hearts And Happily Ever After Coming Soon To Star Life + Possible Schedule Changes For The Channel

New shows on the horizon for Star Life

Star Life will be welcoming its third and potentially fourth show to the channel in the coming weeks, Happy Hearts and Happily Ever After (also known as Broken Vows).

Happy Hearts follows the titular character a free-spirited middle-class girl and Rocky Khosla is a playboy and an arrogant goon. His elder kind-hearted brother Chintu falls in love with Happy and befriends her.

Happily Ever After tells the story of Jahnvi whose involved in an abusive marriage with business tycoon Viraj who portrays different characters in and out of the relationship.

Happy Hearts starts 30 January replacing Wedding Planners at 9pm CAT while Happy Ever After is said to launch in the following month possibly in a unique timeslot.

Potential timeslot changes await Star Life

Disney is going through a lot of changes as streaming becomes their top priority for most if not all their linear businesses. Star Life joins that endless list of brands waiting to be put out of its misery.

Aside from possible rebrands, the channel is said to undergo some schedule changes almost similar to Telemundo where primetime is put up on the late hours of the day while the rest of the schedule is packed with repeats.

The 6pm and 7pm are said to be the weakest areas for primetime in terms of viewership so those slots will be flooded with repeats while 11pm is reserved for new content as mentioned earlier like Telemundo.

The slots between 8pm and 10pm remain intact for the time being of course 11pm shows are said to only repeat at 7pm as content may be deemed inappropriate for viewers in the daytime which is likely those horror series.

A Year After The UK, A+E Networks Ends Lifetime's Linear Operations In Poland, Could The Same Fate Await DStv Subscribers In Africa?

In 2021, Lifetime ceased operation in the UK as A+E Networks signed a distribution agreement with Discovery Inc's streaming service, Discovery+. A year prior to that the channel unveiled a new look.

According to Press Poland (Pl), A+E Networks UK has decided to pull Lifetime out of life support in that region and viewers have until the end of May to enjoy their last moments with the channel.

Founded in 1995, A+E Networks UK offers 20 channels in 60 million households globally including British Islands, Scandinavia, Benelux, Middle-Eastern Europe, Africa and the Nearby East.

Lifetime has been active in the market since 2013 with Africa following a year prior offering a range of female based content such as Dance Moms, Storage Wars and Married At First Sight.

In 2019, A+E Networks held a showcase for which MultiChoice them not to as their contract was up for renewal and that only led to a carriage dispute which was later resolved at the expense of one of their brands.

Now it seems like another channel could be out for the count as its slowly begun to decline in Europe. At the moment, Crime+Investigation is the only reason Lifetime remains relevant to Africa.

For several months, A+E Networks hasn't provided any info regarding new content for Lifetime aside from the fact that the channel hasn't aligned their design with the United States for literally 2 years.

MultiChoice's Showcase was the first time in many months we've gotten any news on the channel. The info provided by them hadn't always been consistent with what's seen on screen but I hope that changes should it remain in the market.

Paramount+ slate of content for the new year

Telemundo And Televisa Unveil A Small Set Of Productions For 2022

Telemundo's lineup has been maxed out due to high budget costs for action series and for the remaining 8 years they often licenced content from third parties. It's shocking how the African feed is standing with their 7 day offering.

Last year was the first time in 6 years, Telemundo actually gave a middle finger to super series. Last year, they managed to produce 4 series which is the most they've gotten within a year and also didn't have to be a revival or some super series.

Televisa on the other hand has been doing a lot of remakes and unlike Telemundo their linear stations or at least the English feed is 10 years behind of new content meaning that while their rival keeps up with modern times they choose to promote themselves as TCM.

2022 will see the addition of four new series two of which are returning with one being a watered down super series. At the moment, Televisa has two series lined up.

Returning shows (Telemundo only):

La Reina Del Sur 3: The series depicts the rise of Teresa Mendoza (Kate del Castillo), a young woman from Mexico who becomes the most powerful drug trafficker in southern Spain.

Pasión De Gavilanes 2: Taking place 20 years after the first season, the Reyes and Elizondo family will face new challenges that threaten their family. The death of a teacher shakes the family as evidence points to one of the sons of one of the couples as the possible culprit, triggering a series of heartbreaking events that will, once again, put their love and loyalty to the test.

Telemundo Africa won't air the first season for obvious reasons 1) it's too old and not everyone has a high level of tolerance for such show and 2) the African feed airs programs that went as far as 2010. The best option look online for the first season.

New series (Telemundo and Televisa):

Telemundo:
This was the super series I was referring to which has a measly 10 episodes.

The Diary Of Gigolo: Diary of a Gigolo tells the story of Emanuel (Castro), a Gigolo who leads a life of luxury and freedom. After surviving a childhood of violence and poverty, Emanuel forges a bond with Minou (Barraza), a businesswoman who takes him under her wing and helps him become a sought-after escort.

The Woman Of My Life: Tells the story of Ricardo Oribe, a physically unattractive man but a successful businessman, dedicated to his family and in love with his beautiful wife Daniela, a young aspiring actress. Ricardo's life takes a turn when his best friend Emilio betrays him and tries to kill him to take over his company and the family he never had.

Televisa:
Los ricos también lloran is an upcoming Mexican television series written by Leonardo Padrón and produced by W Studios for Televisa. It will premiere on Las Estrellas in February 2022. It is a reboot based on the 1979 Mexican telenovela of the same name, and the fourth production of the Fábrica de sueños franchise.

Amor dividido is an upcoming Mexican telenovela that will premiere on Las Estrellas on 17 January 2022. The series is produced by Angelli Nesma Medina for Televisa. It is an adaptation of the Colombian telenovela of Allá te espero.

What Really Happened To VH1 Classic On DStv And Where Is It Now?

The popular music brand VH1 Classic started out mainly consisting of niche genres which didn't appease the masses at the time which led to its downfall on DStv and the switch to VH1 Classic.

At the time this channel was still around, they were plenty of channels offering international hits mainly modern day music before localising their offering which welcomed a new rail of viewers while others resorted to other means like streaming to cater for their tastes.

In all those eras, VH1 Classic stood out from the rest with their selection of international classic hits while Mzansi Music dealt with the local spectrum.

It wasn't until 2019 that ViacomCBS announced the discontinuation of VH1 Classic and the launch of the European MTV Music24 which therefore killed all their classical tunes for more modernizing.

It wasn't until that period that most channels which had a stack of international hits reduced the lineup for more localised tunes therefore boosting the value of MTV Music24 which doesn't cater for that region as it adapting to a European feed.

MTV Music24 wasn't all rainbows and sunshine aside from not carrying any fragment of VH1 Classic. The offering was very repetitive and they'd repeat the same music in the same order it was arranged and this continued on until last year where it was replaced with the pop based brand MTV Hits.

When VH1 Classic was terminated people pointed the finger toward DStv and when MTV Hits dethroned MTV Music24 there was a lot of silence in the switch as well as the reception. What some don't realise was that there was more to the story.

Tracing back to VH1 Classic, the channel was handled by Europe which used it as an entertainment channel to repeat programs from MTV. Africa got a different feed for some apparent reason.

In 2016, the owners of VH1 being announced that VH1 Classic would rebrand to MTV Classic as it was suspected that VH1 was being terminated internationally seeing that it was a property of MTV. Of course, this switch wasn't applicable to viewers in South Africa.

VH1 Classic was initially discontinued in 2016 so the feed in South Africa was just on autopilot for the past 3 years as they tried sourcing out the major reject MTV Music24.

MTV Music24 vanished two years later and if you google the channel. It appears that the brand was phased out likely as part of the initiative for MTV Global formerly MTV Europe which is limiting the localised feeds probably due to the launch of Paramount+.

Disney plans to close 100 international channels in the near future following the successful launch of their streaming service Disney+. It had been speculated that other companies will likely follow at a given time.

About VH1 Classic, the channel is currently known as MTV Classic I presume the reason it wasn't picked up in Africa was that ViacomCBS was looking for something that appease the current masses and anything like MTV Classic didn't fit that description.

MTV Classic has become a dumpster fire with its stack of repeats pulling 16000 viewers a month in a market with a large amount of pay-tv households. ViacomCBS no longer shares details about the viewership and I wouldn't be shocked if the channel was discontinued with nothing left in place.
