Canal+ Strengthens MultiChoice's Partnership With PSL

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) and CANAL+ Group have held talks aimed at strengthening their long-standing partnership following the French broadcaster’s recent acquisition of the MultiChoice Group.

Executives from CANAL+ met with PSL chairman Irvin Khoza as part of the company’s broader strategy to expand its investment in local content, particularly sport.

The PSL and MultiChoice partnership dates back to 2007, with SuperSport playing a major role in improving the production quality and reach of domestic football broadcasts across South Africa and the continent.

Khoza described the PSL as more than just a football competition, saying the league had become a “cultural infrastructure” that connects communities across generations and regions.

“Every PSL match carries consequences and has an impact on the others,” said Khoza. “This cascading effect sustains an ongoing national conversation that reaches across communities and generations.”

He added that CANAL+’s broadcasting capabilities had helped the league reach millions of supporters, despite concerns around declining stadium attendances at some matches.

“Every PSL match carries value, irrespective of the number of spectators in the stadium,” Khoza said. “Each match’s true significance lies in its consequence within the league.”

CANAL+ director for sports content in English and Portuguese-speaking Africa, Rendani Ramovha, reaffirmed the broadcaster’s commitment to South African football.

“The PSL is a key partner to the group, and it is important to ensure that we maintain a good relationship with our key stakeholders,” said Ramovha.

He said local football remained one of the most in-demand offerings on DStv and SuperSport, adding that CANAL+ viewed the PSL as an important platform to continue innovating its sports broadcast product.

The Betway Premiership is currently locked in a tightly contested title race between Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Paramount Aims To Finalize Warner Bros. Discovery Acquisition By July

Paramount Skydance is reportedly aiming to finalize its merger with Warner Bros. Discovery as soon as July.

Paramount, home to CBS, Paramount Pictures and Paramount+, is internally eyeing July 15 as its target date to finalize the deal, the Status newsletter reported late Tuesday.

In public statements, David Ellison-led Paramount has said it expects the $110 billion deal to close by the third quarter, or Sept. 30.

Shareholders have already approved the merger between Paramount and WBD, which owns CNN, Warner Bros Pictures and HBO, though it remains subject to regulatory approval.

UK regulators are getting ready to begin their review of the deal, with their deadline for public comments closing last month.

Paramount has also asked the Federal Communications Commission to approve foreign investment in the deal. Investors outside the US will account for 49.5% of the equity of the combined company.

Another potential hurdle could come at the state level, with California Attorney General Rob Bonta launching a probe of the deal in March.

“There are red flags everywhere for us,” the Dem said earlier this month. “We’re looking at things like higher prices, lower wages, fewer jobs, less quality, less choice, less competition — the things that you look at when you’re looking at an antitrust case and a proposed merger.”

Paramount’s chief legal officer Makan Delrahim has argued that the mega-deal will bring “new competitive” energy to the entertainment business.

In the event that the merger does not close by Sept. 30, WBD shareholders will receive a 25 cent-per-share “ticking fee” for each quarter until closing.

On the chance the deal falls through all due to regulatory woes, Paramount will pay WBD a $7 billion termination fee.

More Details Regarding Insidus, Insidus Plus And Regular Nick

Firstly I'd like to thank readers for continuing to use our platforms as wecm begun a new phase in our lives. For those who don't know, two years ago, Google decimated the visibility of our website and in general affected our earnings

A bunch of colleagues had since then been grasping through straws trying to figure out where their next meal would come from. What I'm trying to is this issue is a site wide and I've seen a bunch of publications shut down from all of this.

Rather than me talking about this, I want to address the current status of all of my sites as I feel I owe you those who continue supporting us. It may feel like a long reed but it could be worth your time.

Insidus

Following the affects of 2024, news is no longer a priority it's more like a plot filler nowadays we mostly focus opinion pieces, reviews and question based articles which led to the inclusion of Featured Posts.

Seeing as our other sites have content can still offer value as time progresses, that's what we shifted toward on Insidus. We will still offer news but long term that may not be the case and overtime you may see my investment here drop overtime.

I don't intend to shut down Insidus as its helped me overcome difficult moments in my life and I feel like I'm revisiting this situation with Featured Posts. If you feel like I've been inactive just know I'm probably working on stuff behind the scenes.

Most of the content on my site is now pre-published and it runs all the way to August and if I feel like I have enough I could develop some material for September and October even or even skip a couple of minds if I wanted to.

As mentioned, I'm still active but it might lessen with time.

Insidus Plus

A couple years back we operated a website with a similar name and we just revived it as a means to promote Insidus Television, my YouTube channel. It is home to the funnel of content across the web and is also less creative aspect of Insidus.

We write our own content on Insidus from time to time but Insidus Plus looks for content across the multiverse. It could serve as an extension to Insidus for certain news pieces and other content but that's as far as it goes.

The first time I started there was a lot of conflict with identity and thanks to my YouTube channel I feel like I know what I can do to address the differences. For Insidus, it's role is mainly to set reminders or offer extensions to existing content.

Regular Nick

Firstly I like to apologize for those who relied on the initial Regular Nick site for taking time to address the situation. As some would recall, I had a site under this name and due to some tests the site went dark and it's less likely to be recovered.

This is the reason a duplicate site with all its content had since been rolled out and I haven't been able to use the Regular Nick name due to pending issues with the initial site.

As for this newly launched version, my priorities here have changed instead of promoting it through social platforms. I opted to rather use Insidus and Insidus Plus for those endeavours the closest I am to doing it on socials would be Instagram and X.

Then there's something I want to try and do with the site think of this as the Featured Posts column on Insidus. I'm trying to make my workload on here less draining which is why I had been inactive.

South Africa, Get Ready To Bring The Chaos To The Regular Show Recording Booth

On 11 May, Cartoon Network Africa launched the long-awaited brand-new series “Regular Show: The Lost Tapes”. Now, fans across the country are being invited to jump straight into the madness themselves with a brand‑new dubbing competition, and things are about to get not‑so‑regular.

To celebrate the launch of Regular Show: The Lost Tapes, Cartoon Network Africa is sending a travelling dubbing booth to three locations in South Africa this May and June. Fans can step inside, choose one of four South African languages — isiZulu, Afrikaans, isiXhosa or Sesotho — and bring Rigby to life in a 60-second clip. If you’ve ever watched the show and thought, “I could totally do that voice”, this is your moment. And if you’ve ever wanted to bring your home language into the Regular Show universe … well, get ready, because it’s your turn!

The booth will pop up in three cities across the country on the following dates

29 - 31 May: Cresta Shopping Centre in Johannesburg
5 - 7 June: Mimosa Mall in Bloemfontein
12 - 14 June: The Pavilion Shopping Centre in Durban
The competition¹ is open to fans of all ages, and participants under 18 simply need to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Four winners, one representing each language, will be selected to receive a one-hour recording session at EarCandy, a professional dubbing studio in Johannesburg, where they’ll re‑record their winning scene. Their clips will then be showcased on‑air and online across Cartoon Network Africa, giving fans the rare chance to see and hear themselves on South Africa’s Coolest Kids’ TV Channel².

For more than a decade, Regular Show has been a favourite in South African households, drawing an average of 558,000 daily viewers³ on Cartoon Network Africa and creating a fanbase that has kept the show’s chaos alive, from kids discovering the show for the first time to adults who grew up with Mordecai and Rigby’s unforgettable antics. This competition celebrates that fandom by giving viewers the chance to bring their own voice, their own humour and their own language into the world of the park. It’s fun, it’s unpredictable, it’s proudly South African, and it’s exactly the kind of madness Regular Show fans live for.

This celebration of South African languages is part of Cartoon Network Africa’s ongoing commitment to incorporating more local voices into its programming via the “CN Your Way” campaign. An initiative launched late last year with the dubbing of popular series into isiZulu like The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball and Teen Titans Go!

Watch Regular Show: The Lost Tapes weekdays at 17h20 on Cartoon Network Africa (DStv 301), then start rehearsing for your chance to become a Cartoon Network star! (at least for a minute😉). And for an extra dose of chaos, don’t miss the Regular Show: The Lost Tapes marathon on Saturday, 13 June and Sunday, 28 June at 08:45.
