- As mentioned, Cartoonito is launching on the channel or at least the demo pack until the full block surfaces. Through the promo, it has been revealed that the block will have a lot of existing content as opposed to new.

Reminder: e.tv's African Feed To Cease Transmission On DStv And GOtv

Earlier in the month, it was reported that e.tv's additional channels will cease transmission on DStv and MultiChoice will open up a few existing channels to their customers while as launching DreamWorks.

From April 1st, the only channels present from eMedia Investments would be e.tv and eNCA while eNuus continues offering their news bulletin on kykNET well that's not entirely true or at least for the rest of Africa that is.

 

MultiChoice Africa plans to scrap e.tv (also known to viewers as eAfrica or eGhana) from their DStv and GOtv packages by the end of month leaving only the news portion of eMedia Investments as they sought out other entertainment.

Basically, eMedia Investments theory about their partnership with MultiChoice for e.tv blew up in their faces or at least for the rest of Africa. Of course both parties had an alternative motive but with Netflix you can see where MultiChoice's heart lies.

According to Limpopo TV, MultiChoice has a new business plan and although not much details are available aside from the no community channel policy. The idea of e.tv alongside other e.tv channels forming part of this plan doesn't seem far fetched.

 

 

Since the pandemic, MultiChoice had been chopping several channels such as BBC First, ITV Choice, M-Net City and VUZU in their attempts to streamline and launched several originals like HONEY, Maisha Magic Movies and WildEarth.

These eChannels lacked originality and some of the content which may not be found on DStv is licensed by other networks take for instance eToonz with DreamWorks and eExtra with Timeless Dizi Channel and Zee World.

New Series Alerts: Trolls: The Beat Goes On + The Epic Tales Of Captain Underpants + Boss Baby: Back In Business + TWO EXCLUSIVE SHOWS Coming To DreamWorks Africa

During the past week, MultiChoice and NBCUniversal unveiled DreamWorks home to Emmy award-winning original television series including: All Hail King Julien, The Adventures of Puss in Boots and Dragons: Race to the Edge.

As mentioned earlier in the month, eToonz will be phased out from MultiChoice's DStv and the channel carried a large portion of DreamWorks upcoming slate or at least reruns as e.tv airs them first.

DreamWorks is basically useless but not entirely as there's Casper Scare School which hasn't been picked up by eToonz (not yet at least) and viewers who either don't have access or hardly watch those channels or do watch the channels and want to see them again.

 

In the press statement, the channel lists 5 series 3 of which already seen on eToonz are Trolls: The Beats Goes On, The Epic Tales Of Captain Underpants and Boss Baby: Back In Business while Kung Fu Panda: The Paws Of Destiny and Dragons: Rescue Riders have yet to air on either station.

Set after the events of Kung Fu Panda 3, the series follows Po the panda on a fresh adventure featuring four panda kids (Nu Hai, Jing, Bao, and Fan Tong) who happen upon a mystical cave beneath the Panda Village. The panda kids accidentally absorb the chi of ancient and powerful Kung Fu warriors known as the Four Constellations: Blue Dragon, Black Tortoise, White Tiger, and Red Phoenix—each of which somehow are with the panda who has a quality opposite to the that Constellation's prime quality.

Dragons: Rescue Riders *EXCLUSIVE
The series follows Dak and Leyla, human twins raised by dragons who have developed, as a result, a unique ability to directly communicate with them, helping and rescuing dragons and the people of the town Huttsgalor.

Tom Welling's Professionals Will Be The Last International Series To Air Weeknights On e.tv At 20:30

e.tv plans to reduce their international offering on weeknights by scrapping shows like Chicago PD, The Resident and Seal Team which were currently seen in the 20:30 timeslot for local dramas like Isono and The Black Door.

The third season of S.W.A.T. is currently airing on e.tv and will come to a close before the changes as mentioned above take into affect so the channel will be adding its last international series to the lineup, Professionals.

Tom Welling also known for his work in The CW series Smallville formerly on M-Net and SABC 2 where he played the lead character Clark Kent/Superman.

The series consists of 10 episodes each of them being an 45 minutes long so you can see where the channel was getting at with Professionals as the series will end at the same time the above changes take into affect.

 

eMedia Investments will be replacing Rewind with Xposed which appears to incorporate a mixture of eReality and seems to make up for the reduction in international programming on e.tv as the channel offers dramas and sitcoms.

The Walt Disney Company Closes Their First Free-To-Air Channel In Turkey

The Walt Disney Company plans to close 100 linear channels globally in the near future with markets such as Asia and some parts of Europe seeing their content from brands like National Geographic and Disney Channel fold under Disney+, their streaming service.

According to sources, The Walt Disney Company plans to close Disney Channel in Turkey of course it hasn't been stated whether Disney Junior would tag along as the channel seems intact as most fingers point to the main channel.

 

 

What's more shocking is that these are the first free-to-air channels from the brand to close globally as most readers anticipated that the closures for these type of channels would take much longer with them being free-to-air.

In Canada, Disney XD which is partially owned by Corus Entertainment rebranded to WildBrainTV earlier in the month and it wouldn't shock me if Disney Junior was perhaps folded under Family Jr while the main channel merges with Disney+.

 

 

By the end of this month, FOX Life is expected to close down in the United States joining its global counterparts in the afterlife. Also joining the list of closures is Disney XD, Star Life, Nat Geo Wild and Nat Geo Kids in Latin America.

From April, The Walt Disney Company EMEA would be the market with the most international channels as its been speculated that the channels would close by 2023 or 2024 as most parts of Europe and Africa still don't have Disney+.

Maury calls it quits

NBCUniversal on Sunday confirmed that its daytime syndicated talk show Maury will be wrapping with the current season, saying that it was a mutual decision between the studio and veteran host Maury Povich to end the talker made when Maury was most recently renewed in 2020 through the 2021-22 season.

“Maury and I decided two years ago that this season would be the farewell season for the show, and while his retirement is bittersweet, we are so happy for him to be able to spend more time on the golf course,” Tracie Wilson, EVP, NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, said in a statement to Deadline. “Maury is a television icon, a pop culture legend and we couldn’t be more proud to have been a part of his incredible career.”

“Six years ago when I was ready to retire, my the NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show,” he said. “Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal. I’m so proud of my relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the Maury show but as I occasionally tell my guests on Maury, ‘Enough, already!'”

The series was once available on Soweto TV before it went under new management.

Cocomelon expands to more households

Moonbug Entertainment has inked its first multi-territory linear deal, partnering with WarnerMedia to air preschool series CoComelon across EMEA.

Under the deal, WarnerMedia has picked up 170 episodes of the popular series to air on the conglom’s fledgling preschool block Cartoonito across more than 115 countries in the area this year. The brand’s 3D-animated musical episodes, which cover educational topics and nursery rhymes, will roll out in multiple languages, including German, French and Italian.

This partnership expands on Moonbug and WarnerMedia’s previous deal to air CoComelon on Cartoonito in the UK , where it rolled out in April 2021. That was the brand’s first move onto linear TV.

More eVOD originals surface on your TV screens

eMedia Investments told the media lies when saying viewers had to wait a year to see the bulk of content launching exclusively on the platform but that was already suspected when Dokter Ali aired on eExtra a few months after debuting on eVOD.

According to sources, Piet's Sake starring Jamie Bartlett and Kenneth Nkosi is set to be the first eVOD original production alongside Is'phindiselo to make way to e.tv amidst the channel's lineup changes.

Piet is an old school Afrikaans businessman who had immense success during apartheid, however, he is finding it very difficult to navigate in the new and transformation pro South Africa. When he loses all his contracts, he wishes he black, in a spiteful manner in front of one of his employees who he mistreats. In the morning, his wishes have come true, but not in the way he would have wanted. He has swapped lives with Mandla who now is “Piet” the boss and he is Mandla the cleaner. The only way things will go back to normal is after he has learnt an important life lesson.

Piet's Sake airs at 8pm on Saturday, 2 April and rumor has it more eVOD titles will debut on the channel including Atlantis and Daryn's Gym.

Night Walk, The Highly Anticipated Moroccan Film Expands To Africa On KIX

In this modern-day Romeo and Juliet, star-crossed lovers are torn apart by cultural tensions between the East and the West. Sarah takes her American boyfriend Frank to her home country in the Arab world. After an incident during a night stroll, Frank is imprisoned by corrupt police for Sarah's murder. His quest for justice turns into a spiritual journey led by Muslim inmates, from the moderate convert to terror-linked fundamentalists.

Night Walk is an American crime thriller drama film written and directed by Aziz Tazi and starring Sean Stone, Mickey Rourke, Sarah Alami, French rap legend La Fouine and Eric Roberts.

The film received the Best Screenplay award for Aziz Tazi and Best Actor award for Mickey Rourke at the 2019 Prague Independent Film Festival. Both The Washington Post and Entertainment Weekly included Night Walk in their "Movies to Stream this week" list.

In 2021, Night Walk was acquired by Lionsgate, making it the first Moroccan film in history to get Hollywood distribution now available in 146 countries and in 31 languages.

Last month through Night Walk social pages, it was announced that the film will soon be seen by 1.8 billion people in Asia and Africa with 14 new languages added to the list.

Thanks to some media outlets, it has been confirmed that KIX picked up rights to the film and funny how Asia was tagged to Africa in this distribution plan almost as if it was to be expected.

Although a date hasn't been confirmed it will likely be made available around the time the channel opens up to DStv Family and Access customers as MultiChoice opted to not renew their agreement for eMovies and eMovies Extra.

Our Flags Mean Death
The series is loosely based on the life of Stede Bonnet. In 1717, Captain Bonnet is an aristocrat who abandons his comfortable life and family to prove himself as a pirate during the Golden Age of Piracy, despite having no aptitude for the role. Sailing aboard his ship the Revenge, Captain Bonnet and his dysfunctional crew struggle to survive against deadly threats from naval warships and other bloodthirsty pirates.

Shining Vale
A dysfunctional family moves from the city to a small town after Patricia "Pat" Phelps, a former "wild child" who became famous through writing raunchy female empowerment novels, is caught cheating on her husband. The house the family had moved into is a place where in the past, terrible atrocities have taken place.

Winning Time: The Rise Of Lakers Dynasty
The series chronicles the professional and personal lives of the 1980s Los Angeles Lakers basketball team, both on and off the court.

The Courtship
One woman searches for love in a Regency-era setting in a classic twist on modern dating. The immersive, romantic experience unfolds across the English countryside as she sets out to find her perfect match with her family by her side.

Domino Masters
Teams consisting of three domino-building competitors are tasked with building creations out of domino pieces based on a given theme. The judges will name the winning team's build, advancing them to the next round. The season will culminate in a finale, in which top teams compete for $100,000, a Domino Masters trophy, and the title of Domino Masters.

Beyond The Edge
Participants live in the Panamanian jungle of the Bocas del Toro Archipelago for 14 days, and compete as teams to raise money for charitable organizations. A different charity has been chosen by each celebrity. Each participant can opt to leave the competition and go home at any time. At the end of the two weeks, the two stars who have earned the most money for their respective charities face off in a final challenge to determine the top earner, and winner of the competition.
