Back By Popular Demand Nobody Knows As Zee Bollymovies Might Be Making A Comeback On DStv Under The Name Zee Cinema

MultiChoice has started testing out another Indian channel which is none other than the Zee Cinema channel or as you put it Zee Bollymovies main counterpart as two films from Zee Enterprises has been added to the lineup which are Mitron and Rock On.

That's not the only channel coming from Zee Enterprises apparently MultiChoice in SA will be adding the Indian news channel WION to the lineup meaning the Zee supremacy lives on.

Zee Bollymovies launched in March 2017 on DStv and lasted a year. Of course no reason was given as to why the channel was removed but it's main counterpart Zee Cinema has been operating for a while on StarSat.

One of the likely reasons this channel is launching could be due to the massive loss of several international channels on the platform so Zee Cinema could have been the last alternative.

Zee Bollymovies launched on channel 114 so it wouldn't surprise me if the main counterpart occupied channel 113 seeing that KIX took up it's previous space or 142 to compliment Maisha Magic Movies and it was seen as a Compact channel maybe it will be put on Family and in some way this would make up for the loss of M-Net Movies All-Stars on that package seeing that the replacement went into Compact.

Meaning now MultiChoice has more than 10 movie channels if you exclude the regional channels e.g. eMovies and include the African movie channels.

WION could be added in channel 418 seeing that some African markets have Arise News on channel 415 and AfricaNews is on channel 417. It wouldn't surprise me if it were made available to Access customers which would be MultiChoice's way of not making them feel left out.

In other news, TLNovelas is not a pop-up which leads to the question. Could what several sources have speculated about MultiChoice be true that they're possibly looking into reviving past channels seeing that this Zee Bollymovies copy is gracing viewers screens?

New Series Alert: Wrede Stad Coming Soon To eExtra

Just as you thought eMedia was moving all their newest Turkish dramas to eVOD. The brand finally gives their channels some fresh content with the introduction of the new family drama Wrede Stad.

Wrede Stad (Zalim Istanbul) follows the life of Seher and his children. When Seher and Agah make an encounter, the lives of their families become complicated as tension and scandal arises between the two families.

The series made its debut in the fall of 2019 and became one of the most talked about shows in 2020 with their stellar cast and performances. The series was produced by Ay Yapım.

Ay Yapım offered shows already seen on Dizi and eMedia such as Karadayi, Stiletto Vendetta, Elif, Kuzgun (Voelvry), Impak, 8th Day and several others.

Wrede Stad replaces As Die Skoen Pas weekdays at 19:30 on eExtra from Monday 1st November. As Die Skoen Pas concludes on Thursday 27th October with a sneak peek of Kurt En Shura on Friday 28th October.

Kurt En Shura was originally announced as a placeholder for As Die Skoen Pas but not anymore apparently. The series will likely air in 2022 seeing that Deur Dik En Dun on e.tv and Turkish dramas on eExtra will live out the rest of the year.

M-Net's New Additions Me Will Also Offer Local Content, What Possible Implications Could It Have An Impact On Mzansi Magic And Mzansi Wethu?

M-Net Essentials (ME) joins the DStv family from 1st November on channel 115 as a replacement for both M-Net City and VUZU featuring a variety of reality and drama series alongside movies.

As stated earlier by MultiChoice, Me will also be used for all the local content coming to M-Net such as The Bachelorette SA, Lioness and the first season of M-Net's popular local drama, Legacy.

Usually when M-Net or 1Magic pick up local content. They usually shove the reruns on Mzansi Magic and Mzansi Wethu.

With Me, taking up the responsibility of not only the international but local aspects of M-Net. It wouldn't make any sense for all these shows to play on Mzansi Magic.

Mzansi Magic is a Compact channel that is higher than a Family channel which is where Me resides so it seems only logical for all these local shows on Me to skip Mzansi Magic and move over to Mzansi Wethu where viewers aren't familiar with the programs to avoid tension between customers.

Mzansi Magic is already having a hard time being a hotspot for 1Magic's local content and Mzansi Wethu airing repeats from Me will help differentiate the channel from Mzansi Magic.

In a way, Me's presence does cause a disturbance with Mzansi Wethu. Seeing that Family customers relied on the brand for all their local dramas and reality shows adding Me reduces that audience once any of their shows air on Mzansi Wethu.

Africa: Why The ACME (Night) Block Will Likely Launch Cartoon Network With Cartoonito Relaunching On Boomerang?

Earlier this year, WarnerMedia announced plans to expand their kids offering across their brands to include programs for preschoolers, girls and families.

A month ago, they unveiled preschool and family content in the form of a programming block on Cartoon Network called Cartoonito and ACME Night (respectively) featuring a variety of content from their archives and other studios.

ACME: Batman: Caped Crusaders, Gremlins: Secrets Of The Mogwai and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal
Cartoonito: Little Ellen, Batwheels and Bugs Bunny Builders

Cartoonito which is adapted from WarnerMedia in Europe has started taking swing internationally while ACME which is likely from the fictional company originating in Looney Tunes cartoons hasn't started as of yet.

While Cartoon Network in the United States got both these brands sharing occupying the space on their channel. It's possible that Cartoon Network in Africa will only pick up ACME leaving Boomerang with Cartoonito.

ACME on Cartoon Network

As mentioned earlier (in italics), the ACME block features shows such as Batman: Caped Crusader and Unicorn: Warriors Eternal which may seem a bit edgy for the family and preschool friendly Boomerang.

Cartoon Network has an ongoing history with DC Animation and have positioned themselves well for the job with the likes of Power Rangers and Teen Titans GO! which would require intense supervision and superior intellect.

Cartoonito finds Boomerang or Boomerang finds Cartoonito

In Africa, WarnerMedia has picked up rights to several preschool series of which none have been credited as Cartoonito but Boomerang such as Lucas The Spider, Thomas And Friends: All Engines Go and, True And The Rainbow Kingdom.

Firstly, the U.S. only put Cartoonito on Cartoon Network and HBO Max in the hopes that it could be successful and get a large audience reach which is where Boomerang doesn't fit unlike Africa and the rest of Europe.

Boomerang in Europe already incorporate preschool content into their lineup (some of which are on Cartoonito) which has been successful so it wouldn't be a hassle to get there than it would on Cartoon Network.

Cartoonito on Boomerang vs. Boomerang on Cartoonito vs. the conclusion

Boomerang days might be numbered with WarnerMedia working on launching more family based programming on Cartoon Network and Cartoonito covering preschoolers the channel is going through an identity crisis.

Since part of the channel is preschool maybe that will be all of what Boomerang has to offer in future making it easier to swipe the branding for Cartoonito.

Boomerang in the United States is the equivalence of Boing in Africa without Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes and Scooby-Doo keeping it alive so unless WarnerMedia has some alignment plans I don't see any place for the channel on their stable.

TLNovelas Remains Silent As A Shelter For Love Becomes A No Show And My Sweet Curse Gets More Airtime + See What MultiChoice Say About The Supposed Pop-Up Channel

TLNovelas was originally scheduled to close on DStv by the end of August but didn't apparently the reps at MultiChoice stated it's not a pop-up which means that tvN, Dizi and ZooMoo were just a piece of meat.

On top of not being a pop-up as advertised last year, TLNovelas failed to air A Shelter For Love as promised but instead chose to screen different episodes of My Sweet Curse in as follows (in CAT):

Episode 37 & 38 air at 6:35
Episode 47 & 48 air at 9:45
Episode 57 & 58 air at 12:55

Viewers reached out to MultiChoice and StarTimes for an explanation but neither had a response to why TLNovelas airs 30 episodes of My Sweet Curse a week and why the channel fails to update their schedule to not list A Shelter For Love.

Viewers started showing concerns for the brand worrying that it might booted like EVA and FOX Life which both offered a schedule packed with repeats before their closure within the 2020/21 period.

Firstly, the channel hasn't started airing reruns to past programs so I doubt that will be the case since the parent company Televisa is merging with Univision to form Televisa-Univision so if anything a rebrand could be on the cards rather than a deletion.
