Paramount Global Plans To Wind Down On TV Channels, Looking To Merge CBS And MTV Studios

David Ellison plans sweeping changes at Paramount Global, including cuts at the company's TV networks, billions of dollars more for streaming and an overhaul of top management, according to people familiar with his plans.

David Ellison who will take over as chief executive officer of Paramount when it merges withhis Skydance Media next year, is exploring combining all of Paramount's TV networks, including CBS and MTV, into one unit.

Those businesses are mostly run by two of the company's co-CEOs, Chris McCarthy and George Cheeks. While Cheeks is expected to stay, McCarthy's future is less certain.

The company’s third co-CEO, Brian Robbins, who leads the Paramount Pictures film studio and the Nickelodeon kids channel, is expected to leave around the close of the deal, said the people, who asked to not be identified discussing plans that are still being formed.

A movie fanatic who has co-financed most of Paramount's biggest films of the last decade, David Ellison was initially interested in the company's namesake movie studio.

While David Ellison and Robbins have worked together on several titles, they are said to have both conceded it's unlikely Robbins will stick around. No final decision has been made, however.

David Ellison has discussed putting Dana Goldberg, the head of production at Skydance, in charge of the film business, at least for the time being. Spokespeople for Paramount and Skydance declined to comment.

Since agreeing to merge Skydance with Paramount in July, Ellison and his deputies have been meeting with their future employees, seeking opinions about what is working and what isn't. David Ellison told employees at Paramount that he hasn't made any decisions about personnel.

David Ellison agreed to the deal knowing Paramount would require a major overhaul.

The company still makes almost all its profit from pay-TV networks such as Nickelodeon, MTV (DStv 130) and Comedy Central (DStv 122) that defined an era in pop culture.

But those networks have hemorrhaged viewers and advertisers to technology companies such as Netflix and YouTube. The company's namesake film studio isn't expected to show a profit for 2024, according to analystss estimates.

"The business needs to be transitioned," David Ellison told Bloomberg shortly after the deal was announced.

When Donald Trump won the presidential election, David Ellison and the team at Skydance began preparing to take over Paramount even sooner than they once thought. They now believe the deal could close as soon as the end of March or early April.

The Federal Communications Commission, which approves the transfer of broadcast licenses, still must bless the deal. Petitions from those opposing the transaction are due 16 December, according to the commission. Final responses from the parties are due 13January 2025.

Two areas requiring David Ellison's immediate attention are TV networks and streaming.

David Ellison is looking at potentially cutting hundreds of millions of dollars in costs by folding the company's TV networks into one group, consolidating teams across departments like programming and marketing. The amount of original programming produced for the cable networks will decline, as will the staffing.

David Ellison will combine two groups, one that currently reports into McCarthy and another into Cheeks. While McCarthy was a favored son of former CEO Bob Bakish, Cheeks has a good relationship with Jeff Shell, who will serve as Ellison's number 2 at Paramount. Cheeks and Shell worked together at NBCUniversal.

David Ellison stated plans to streamline the company's operations in an investor presentation earlier this year, without getting into specifics.

Paramount will also explore strategic partnerships involving pay-TV networks that could result in a divestiture of some of those businesses.

While David Ellison may not formally explore the sale of any of these networks, as was done under the previous regime, he is open to selling almost any network in the portfolio other than CBS.

David Ellison plans to cut back on the company's real estate holdings and will look to sell facilities like the CBS Broadcast Center, a production facility used for 60 Minutes and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. CBS also owns the Ed Sullivan Theater, the home of Stephen Colbert's late-night show.

"We're not going to sell Paramount, we're not going to sell CBS, but we're looking to maximize value," David Ellison previously told Bloomberg.

The transaction has already led to negotiations between David Ellison, Paramount and the NFL.

The league is able to opt out of its broadcasting agreement with CBS as part of a provision in its contract. While the NFL doesn't plan to do so, it has talked to Ellison about turning some of its stake in a joint venture with Skydance into an equity stake in Paramount.

It has also discussed selling some or all of the NFL Network to Paramount.

The cuts in TV will help pay for a greater investment in streaming.

Paramount+ has grown to 72 million customers and has made money two quarters in a row. Yet it ranks last in viewership among mass-market services and is still much smaller than competitors such as Netflix, The Walt Disney Company and Amazon.

Cindy Holland, who's serving as an adviser to Skydance, is consulting on the streaming strategy and is seen by many at Paramount as the person likely to take over that business.

David Ellison is particularly concerned with the poor user experience in the app and has talked about making it easier for viewers to find shows to watch by improving the recommendation algorithm.

David Ellison, the son of Oracle Corp. co-founder Larry Ellison, grew up around technology luminaries such as Apple Inc. co-founder Steve Jobs. He speaks often about marrying technology and art at Paramount, and more quotidian changes like improving Paramount's use of enterprise software.

David Ellison will also more closely integrate Pluto, a free streaming service, into Paramount+.

A free service like Pluto can serve as an on-ramp for viewers to use Paramount+ more often while also benefiting from the marketing around Paramount+ programmes.

Paramount+ is one of three services, alongside Peacock and Max, that are seen as too small to survive independently.

Paramount's current leaders have talked to both Peacock and Max about strategic partnerships to leverage their shared resources. The company has also spoken to Amazon and foreign streaming services.

While Paramount will continue to pursue those deals, Ellison sees less urgency to do so. He believes the company has a solid foundation upon which it can build.

Paramount is much smaller than most of its competitors, even those struggling like Warner Bros. Discovery.

But, after this transaction, it will have a healthier balance sheet. And, unlike most of these other companies, it will have access to the bank account of the Ellison family. While David oversees Paramount day-to-day, his father - one of the world's richest men - financed much of the transaction.

Saved Again: Netflix Acquires Rights To The 2019 Season Of The Bold And The Beautiful For Fans Across South Africa

Set in the glamorous world of Los Angeles, The Bold And The Beautiful focuses on the wealthy and powerful Forrester family. Its company, Forrester Creations, is the leader in the fashion industry. Add in the machinations of rival businesses and families, and you've got a classic set-up.

Produced by Bradley P. Bell through Bell-Phillip Television Productions, Inc, The Bold And The Beautiful debuted by March 23, 1987 on CBS.  So far at least 9000 episodes of the American soap with a new seasons being filmed for the 2024-2025 period.

It held the record for most watched in the soap in the world with its audience reach surpassing 26 million viewers. The American soap also holds won 77 Daytime Emmy Awards, including three for Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series.

SABC 1 acquired rights to the American soap by the late 90s before moving to SABC 3 over 10 years after its launch due to low ratings. Around this time, SABC 3 was going through an identity crisis and the public broadcaster these two would align better.

Although The Bold And The Beautiful was able to pull a massive following in South Africa. It wasn't bringing in the revenue for the public broadcaster so much that by 2019 the show got axed with the only means to the soap EVA and Vodacom Video Play axed years later.

Following its departure from South Africa, several consumers pirated several episodes illegally through torrent sites while others had to make due with what's seen on their screen. As seen by several subscribers, Netflix has become the exclusive home to The Bold And The Beautiful.

Netflix has held these rights since October 2023 for consumers in South Africa. After M-Net opted not to acquire the show when it exited SABC 3, the streamer added the first 100 episodes to the 2019 season which coincide with demises of EVA and Vodacom Video Play.

News Shorts: Warner Bros. Discovery To Close Rooster Teeth After Plans To Sell Backfire, A Rebroadcast Of Timeless Love Launches On TLNovelas Across Africa And Young Sheldon Spinoff Officially In Development At CBS

Rooster Teeth is a bust

Parent company Warner Bros. Discovery, after unsuccessful attempts to sell the unprofitable fandom, gaming and comedy entertainment division, is shutting down Rooster Teeth’s operations. RT general manager Jordan Levin announced the shutdown of Austin-based Rooster Teeth at an all-hands meeting Wednesday and in a memo distributed to staff.

Warner Bros. Discovery is currently in talks to sell the rights to certain Rooster Teeth catalog content and intellectual property such as the popular anime-style series “RWBY” (pictured above), pioneering sci-fi spoof “Red vs. Blue,” and Michael B. Jordan’s animated mecha series “Gen:Lock.” In addition, WBD is seeking to sell the Roost podcast network, with shows spanning gaming, true crime, fandom, comedy and food, which for the time being will continue to operate.
Primetime is halted

After announcing the inclusion of Shadows Of The Past, TLNovelas will be making another U-turn in their upcoming plans with a repeat of Timeless Love from April 22. Further growing the number of reruns on the channel to take on rival Telemundo.

Based on the 1988 telenovela La Mentira, Timeless Love (Cuando Me Enamoro) is the story of Renata and Jeronimo, whose all-embracing love for each other is undermined by bitterness and betrayal, and by the insidious poison of a malicious lie.
Georgie and Mandy TV series in development

CBS has formally ordered a spinoff of Young Sheldon — itself a Big Bang prequel — that will focus on Georgie (Montana Jordan), Sheldon’s older brother, and his fiancée, Mandy (Emily Osment), as they raise their young family in Texas. The project has been in the works since January, and a straight-to-series order was expected after deals closed.

Young Sheldon executive producers Chuck Lorre, Steven Molaro and Steve Holland will continue in their roles on the new series, which will be part of CBS’ 2024-25 slate. Warner Bros. TV, Lorre’s longtime home, is producing.

News Shorts: Jellystone Might End With A Season 4 On Cartoon Network And Max, Bob Hearts Abishola Will End On CBS After 5 Seasons And History Channel Across Africa Explores The Many Legacies Left By Past Civilisations

Jellystone has mysteriously been renewed for a season 3 & 4

Jellystone! is an American animated television comedy series developed by C. H. Greenblatt for Max and Cartoon Network. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Animation and features reimagined versions of various characters by Hanna-Barbera.

The series was renewed for a second season by 2022 with a further 40 episodes. It could have gone the same route as Little Ellen and Close Enough but instead Warner Bros. Studios opted to split these 40 episodes into two seasons bringing it to a total of 4 seasons with the latter expected to air by January 2024.

Most crew members who had worked on the show had since then moved to Disney's STUGO while C.H. Greenblatt is developing a new show for Disney Television Animation. Honestly, Jellystone was one of those few shows to get some light of day after a one year hiatus.

Bob and Abishola call it quits

The fifth season of the multi-cam comedy is due to premiere on Feb. 12, with the series finale now set for May 13 on CBS with M-Net also anticipated to air the finale sometime in 2024. The show is described as a love story about Bob, a middle-aged compression sock businessman from Detroit, who unexpectedly fell for his cardiac nurse, Abishola, a Nigerian immigrant, while recovering from a heart attack.

The ending of “Bob Hearts Abishola” marks the potential end of an era at CBS. With the show ending, coupled with the previously announced ending of “Young Sheldon,” Chuck Lorre does not currently have any shows slated to be on the CBS schedule going into next fall. Unless the network picks up a new show from Lorre and his team between now and then, it will be the first time Lorre has not had at least one show on CBS since 2003.

Lorre’s run at CBS has been nothing short of historic. In the past 20 years he has co-created and executive produced shows for the network including long-running hits like “The Big Bang Theory,” “Two and Half Men,” “Mom,” and “Young Sheldon.” He is currently prepping the series “Bookie” for Max.

'Friends' Star Matthew Perry Dead At 54...After Apparent Drowning

More details are surfacing about the circumstances surrounding Matthew Perry's death...as sources tell us he actually died at his own house after some physical activity this morning.

We're told Matthew came home sometime in the AM after a 2-hour round of pickleball, and that he sent his assistant out on errand shortly thereafter. We're told when the assistant returned about 2 hours later, he discovered Matthew unresponsive...and called 911.

Unclear if what Matthew was doing before his passing played any role in his death at this point -- the investigation into his death is underway.

Law enforcement sources tell us the actor was found Saturday at an L.A.-area home ... where we're told he appears to have drowned. Our sources say first-responders rushed over on a call for cardiac arrest. It's unclear where exactly on the grounds this happened.

Our sources say he was found in a jacuzzi at the home ... and we're told there were no drugs found at the scene. We're also told there is no foul play involved.

Perry is most famous for his role as Chandler Bing on the hit '90s sitcom, which ran for 10 seasons ... and with him in all 234 episodes. His character was a fan fave, as was performance -- mannerisms and lines of which have gone on to be recreated and spoofed by fans all over the world. One comes to mind, in particular ... "Could (blank) BE more .."

While 'Friends' was his biggest claim to fame ... MP had starred/guest starred in countless other TV shows over the years -- such as 'Boys Will Be Boys,' 'Growing Pains,' 'Silver Spoons,' 'Charles in Charge,' 'Sydney,' 'Beverly Hills, 90210,' 'Home Free,' 'Ally McBeal,' 'The West Wing,' 'Scrubs,' 'Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip,' 'Go On,' 'The Odd Couple' and more.

He had also acted in a handful of memorable films (mostly comedy) ... like 'Fools Rush In,' 'The Whole Nine Yards,' 'Three to Tango,' 'The Kid,' '17 Again,' 'Getting In,' and many others. He's been off the scene more recently ... not having acted since a TV mini series in 2017.

While his onscreen persona was affable and upbeat, Matthew suffered mightily behind the scenes -- notably, from his addiction to drugs and alcohol ... pain killers, specifically. He was hooked on Vicodin for years -- even while on 'Friends' -- and had been in and out of rehab.

Matthew opened up about this painful chapter of his life in a memoir he put out last year -- where he detailed the struggles he had ... including his clear weight-loss/gain on the show.

During his press run for his book ... Matthew did a number of interviews where he got incredibly emotional -- including one with Diane Sawyer, where he detailed his story.

While Perry appeared to be clean and sober a year ago, the year prior -- when he and the other cast members were plugging the 'Friends' reunion show -- drew concern from fans ... as they felt he appeared unwell, at times slurring his words and looking a bit out of it.

On top of his substance use ... Matthew also dealt with health issues, some of which were serious and required hospitalizations. One such incident stemmed from a gastrointestinal perforation -- which forced him to undergo emergency surgery ... but he luckily recovered.

Matthew never married, but he was briefly engaged to Molly Hurwitz a couple years ago...which came to an end after only 6 months. Before that, he'd been linked to Lizzy Caplan.

Paramount Unveils Upcoming Projects Ahead Of Brand Licensing Europe 2023

As the entertainment industry continues to evolve, Paramount remains at the forefront with its commitment to innovation, creativity and engaging content that appeals to all ages and demographics. Paramount Consumer Products & Experiences has an abundance of best-in-class IP, both new and existing, as well as strategic opportunities that will excite any partner.

Off the back of a triumphant return to the silver screen, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have reignited the fandom among both nostalgic adults and curious youngsters. The new look Turtles will continue to expand in 2024, as Paramount is set to kick off an electrifying 40th-anniversary celebration of the beloved franchise. This milestone year will witness the launch of a new animated series that promises to reinvigorate the ninja heroes, as well as a whole host of in-person and digital experiences. A slate of gaming releases will keep drawing in both seasoned enthusiasts and a new generation of fans. That's not all; the slate of content planned for this franchise is truly impressive, with another blockbuster movie already announced for 2025. While the heroes in a half shell have a special place in the hearts of those who grew up with them, this year will showcase their enduring appeal - and their ability to resonate across age groups - by uniting old and new fans in a 'shell-tastic' celebration.

Building on from the Paw Patrol franchise's 10th anniversary year, Paramount and Spin Master have introduced Rubble & Crew, which invites viewers to dive deeper into Rubble's family. The year ahead will also be filled with heroic excitement, as the Heroes in Training brand campaign takes centre stage in 2024. This initiative is not just about entertainment, it's about instilling values of bravery, teamwork and compassion in young minds. Moreover, Paramount recognises the increasing demand for diverse representation, and in response is actively fostering the growth of girls' licensing across multiple categories.

SpongeBob has already come to life across 13 seasons of the original series, two spinoff series and three major theatricals, not to mention his first musical which is touring the UK this year. In 2024, Paramount is celebrating 25 years of this beloved, optimistic sea sponge with a host of surprising and delightful activity and partnerships that are sure to put a smile on everyone's faces.

The sweeping success of Yellowstone has not only captured audiences' hearts but also opened doors to a vast and immersive universe. Paramount has announced a thrilling spinoff that will delve even deeper into the gripping narrative that fans have come to adore. The momentum in the UK is bolstered by the airing of Series 1 on Channel 5, with new products available at retail as the studio continues to build out this now iconic franchise.

Kids can get ready to join Dora on another series of exciting escapades as Paramount introduces the adventurous character to a new generation of pre-schoolers. Dora is back with her vibrant animation and engaging storytelling, rendered in immersive CG animation. Paramount will debut a specially created Dora theatrical short ahead of Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie this October, before the consumer products launch rolls out in 2025.

The Avatar franchise will be serving the fandom with a live action Netflix adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender and new content from Avatar Studios coming in 2025.

While Paramount's small-screen triumphs are remarkable, the big screen still holds its enchantment. Paramount is rich in cinematic content for 2024. If is an imaginative original family title from John Krasinski. The movie tells the story of a 12-year-old girl who moves to New York and discovers that the city is home to an entire world of adorable imaginary friends.

Everyone's favourite lazy and sarcastic cat, Garfield, hits the big screen next year in a brand-new animated movie, with Chris Pratt voicing the lasagne-loving feline. For the first time in the history of the franchise, audiences will also meet Garfield's father, played by Samuel L. Jackson.

The action-packed Mission Impossible saga returns to the big screen with the highly anticipated Mission Impossible Dead Reckoning Part 2, for what is being heralded as the cornerstone of cinematic excellence. The movie will be supported with a consumer products programme.

The Dark Truth About Our Gang's Little Radical

The Little Rascals comedy shorts were incredibly popular in the early years of film, but the crew could easily be described as cursed— many of the cast members died under horrifying circumstances, not limited to murder, plane crashes, suicide, and motorcycle accidents.

The Whole Bushel

Beginning in 1922, a series of live-action comedy shorts starring a group of children called Our Gang hit the silver screen. The shorts were a hit, and over decades, a constantly evolving cast of “Little Rascals” entertained audiences, new kids joining up as older ones grew into their teens. While many cast members lived full, normal lives following their stint on the program, a chilling number went on to perish in most terrible fashion.

Bobby Hutchins (20) and Donald Haines (23) both died while serving in World War II. Billy “Froggy” Laughlin died at just 16 when his motor scooter was struck by a car. Norman “Chubby” Chaney died of a glandular ailment at 21. Kendall McComas (64) and Scott Beckett (38) committed suicide. Darla Hood, who frequently figured in as the show’s love interest, died of a heart attack at 47 after contracting hepatitis from a blood transfusion.

In 2002, Jay R. Smith, who lived to 87 years old, was stabbed to death by a homeless man he had befriended. His corpse was found in the desert north of Las Vegas, Nevada. Robert Blake, who successfully made the transition from child to adult actor, found himself in the crosshairs of a murder investigation when his second wife, Bonnie Lee Bakly, was killed in 2001. Blake was acquitted of the charges, but was found liable for her death in a subsequent civil trial.

Perhaps the most famous rascal of all was Carl “Alfalfa” Switzer, the freckled, cowlicked boy who yearned for the affections of his beloved Darla. Switzer left the show in 1940 at the age of 12, and though he had a few bit parts afterward, including roles in such classics as It’s a Wonderful Life and The Ten Commandments, his acting career was pretty much over. Switzer did a series of odd jobs afterward; he had a talent in particular for training hunting dogs. On January 21, 1959, Switzer got into an argument with another man concerning a dog and a debt of $50. He was shot in the groin and bled to death. He was 31. Sixteen years later, Carl’s brother Harold (who also appeared on the series) killed a man in a dispute, then committed suicide at the age of 42.

Scooby-Doo Resembles Late 60s Sitcom

An all-American athletic boy with blonde hair. A beautiful popular girl. A lazy beatnik with a goatee who peppers his speech with "like" and "man." A brainy, petite brunette.

That sounds like a quite familiar quartet, right? Perhaps one that drives around in a green and blue van with a Great Dane?

Those descriptions apply to the core characters of The Many Lives of Dobie Gillis or Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! — and with good reason. The latter Hanna-Barbera cartoon, which premiered in 1969, was based on the former black & white teen sitcom from a decade earlier.

Here are the voice actors behind the characters of 'Scooby Doo, Where Are You!'

The development of Scooby-Doo was inspired by a couple popular teen sensations of the 1960s. Fred Silverman, CBS's head of daytime programming at the time, was looking to duplicate the success of the Archies. His rough pitch to animators William Hanna and Joseph Barbera was this: a teenage rock band that would solve mysteries. Hanna-Barbera assigned the task to writers Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, and artist Iwao Takamoto. Their first draft was a group dubbed the Mysteries Five, consisting of kids named Geoff, Mike, Kelly, Linda and W.W., along with a bongo-playing sheepdog called Too Much. These teen toons were rough analogues to Archies characters Archie, Jughead, Betty, Veronica and Hot Dog. (W.W. was an additional kid brother.)

Unimpressed, Silvermen sent Ruby, Spears and Takamoto back to the drawing board. This time, the creators simply mimicked Dobie Gillis.

Take a good look at the photo up top and it becomes pretty obvious. Fred is Dobie (Dwayne Hickman), Daphne is Thalia (Tuesday Weld), Shaggy is Maynard (Bob Denver) and Velma is Zelda (Sheila James). Heck, "Velma" even sounds like "Zelda."

The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis showed its influence in other realms of pop culture, too. Dobie Gray, the pop-soul singer known for chart smashes like "The 'In' Crowd" and "Drift Away," was born Lawrence Darrow Brown. His record label suggested he use the name "Dobie" to ride off the popularity of the sitcom.

In a less evident example, Gerry Marshall admitted that his hit Happy Days was patterned after Dobie Gillis. Then again, just about every sitcom about teenagers can credit Dobie Gillis, down to Saved by the Bell. Dobie is a pioneer. This early gem was the first sitcom on a major network to focus on adolescent characters. He may have been a Boomer, but it feels like he hasn't aged a day.

What Happened To Joey Greco From Cheaters?

From 2002-2012, Joey captivated us with his soul patch, glasses, and calculated tone. He confronted cheaters with the evidence that they, in fact, cheated on their significant other or long-term partner.

So, what happened to 'Cheaters' host Joey Greco?

The concept of the show is simple. If someone feels that their partner is not being faithful, they seek out the help of the Cheaters team. The show then sends out its private investigators to essentially spy on the partner in question. Over the course of a few days, the PIs collect evidence that either proves or disproves their suspicions.

Due to the sensitive nature of these confrontations between the host, the cheater, and the client, things tend to get quite fiery on the show. In 2003, Joey was the victim of a stabbing during one of these confrontations. This incident raised questions over the show’s validity, leading it to be considered “fake” by critics.

However, it gave Joey notoriety. Cheap stunt or not, it was one of the few things that contributed to him becoming a fan-favorite of the show.

Joey was replaced on 'Cheaters' in 2012 with Clark Gable III.

Despite his popularity, Joey was replaced for the 13th season of the show in 2012 by the late Clark Gable III (Clark Gable’s grandson who passed in 2019 from a drug overdose). According to executive producer and creator Bobby Goldstein, “We just felt it was time to freshen up the show with a new host.”

Joey was asked to finish out the end of Season 15 of Cheaters in 2015. Not much has been heard of Joey since then, but rest assured, he’s still around — just not confronting cheaters.

Joey got back into acting after leaving 'Cheaters'...
Joey was an actor before he became the host of Cheaters. After his decade-long stint on the show, he landed some small roles here and there but mostly appeared as himself for nostalgia’s sake.

His credits post-Cheaters include Charlie: A Toy Story (2013) and the television show Hot Package “Sex and Violence” (2015).

He’s had recurring roles on the television series Ghostbreakers from 2011-2016 as himself and has appeared in various product and service commercials. He also hosted Netflix Cheaterz in 2017, a parody surrounding the issue of Netflix cheating.

In 2020, Joey works as a fitness trainer and real estate agent.

Actors are not obligated to continue acting once they’re out of a gig and some choose to pursue other careers. This is true of Joey Greco. He is a counselor, a fitness trainer, and, if you live in Dallas, Texas, then chances are that Joey could be your new real estate agent!

That’s right, Joey works for Briggs Freeman Sotheby’s International Realty. He appears to have some decent testimonials, too.

Although Joey spends most of his time on real estate, there is a chance that you’ll catch him in some form on TV, either in commercials or perhaps as the occasional host of a reality show. The fact is, there isn’t any "news" about Joey.

He lives a seemingly unbothered life down in Texas, and sorry, he won’t even be returning to host the latest seasons of Cheaters — and we don't blame him.

The Challenges Of Getting Bold And The Beautiful And Days Of Our Lives On DStv

(You can now share on Facebook)

In 2016, the SABC scrapped Days Of Our Lives from SABC 3 and a few years along the line Bold And The Beautiful. Amidst that time, e.tv became the official broadcaster for Days Of Our Lives while EVA (DStv 141) got Bold And The Beautiful.

AMC International, the parent company for EVA opted to discontinue distribution of the channel and in that was Bold And The Beautiful which has since then been viewable on Vodacom's Video Play while Days Of Our Lives will be out on the streets as e.tv opts for more local content.

MultiChoice is pretty much the only hope consumers have in saving these programs. Even though, it would mean paying to view them anything seen on their platform especially in this field can be viewed as a goldmine.

- M-Net cancels The Queen and Lingashoni for more soapies and short-form series
Second batch of rumoured series coming to M-Net, 1Magic, Me and Showmax

There's several from free-to-air stations which have since then been seen on a channel like M-Net such as Survivor, The Amazing Race and NCIS from SABC 3 and America's Got Talent, Chicago PD and Blackish from e.tv.

Even the of rejects such as Dr. Phil, The Real and The Talk from the SABC and UEFA and WWE from e.tv can be transmitted on DStv.

Here's my suggestions for Bold and Days

From what was stated a few years ago, scheduling led to the abandonment of Bold but couldn't M-Net perhaps move it to another station like Me or its local counterpart Mzansi Wethu to reduce the repeat pendant tendency.

Another option could be curating a channel to insert shows like Bold and Days alongside Emmerdale and Coronation Street but chances are the channel would wind up like FOX Life as viewers would expect a stack of content for which such channel might not meet.

The troubles with DStv

As mentioned, M-Net has shown interest if I had to expand a bit further onto their scheduling issue we're basically dealing with a soap opera that has characters that progress daily with their lives and viewers don't want to miss a single detail.

It's not like Judge Judy, where you can skip a couple of hurdles and still make it to the finish line.

MultiChoice have their reasons for stalling I believe these two would fit better on M-Net as they're going through somewhat of an identity crisis with the increased number of streamers bundling content available on the channel.

Of course, M-Net is vouching for limited content services so curating it into an existing or standalone channel on DStv wouldn't be such a bad idea honestly.

What's Replacing Days Of Our Lives On e.tv Later In April?

Days Of Our Lives will be airing for 6 days next month as eMedia Investments chose not to renew their contract with the suppliers of this CBS drama similar to SABC's move with Bold And The Beautiful its survival of the fittest.

Remember a few years back, the public broadcaster opted to localise their offering only for it to tank or at least on SABC 2 & 3 department well you can actually see where the corrupt Hlaudi was getting at.

Several international companies such as The Walt Disney Company, Paramount, NBCUniversal and WarnerMedia plan to rollout streaming services in South Africa by the near future and for many decades their count was viewed on e.tv and DStv, as seen with some outlets they're taking back their content.

This wasn't the case for Days Of Our Lives, eMedia Investments made the call to have it extinguished as repeats of Imbewu and Isono will occupy the timeslot as e.tv hasn't repeated anything in the 8:30pm timeslot.

Questions amount on how The Black Door and possibly Imbewu will be slotted in the weekend. During that time, four other dramas have an omnibus so where does that leave these two if I had to guess Craze and the weekend afternoon movies.

These changes may seem hazardous but you can clearly see their motive for all this - streaming. They want to have clear certainty that the brand will be around for the foreseeable future and not end up like Bop TV where the only thing consumers acknowledged was what other companies offered.

His exact capacity is TBD. NCIS: Sydney is being developed specifically for Paramount+ Australia as one of its first original series; it could also play in other territories, including U.S., as ViacomCBS’ streamer expands worldwide.

Insidus Content Roundup #7: NCIS: Los Angeles Possibly Cancelled, New The Little Prince Series Debuts In 2023, Leon Schuster And Alfred "Shorty" Ntombela Returns For Mr. Bones 3 On April 15th, 2022

NCIS: Los Angeles cancelled after 13 seasons???

One chapter of the NCIS franchise may be closing, with the LA team possibly set to suspend operation . Currently nearing the end of its 13th season, fans hoping for a Season 14 renewal for NCIS: Los Angeles may be left upset, as series star Eric Christian Olsen recently revealed on social media that the hit CBS series is in its "final season."

Olsen, who has starred as LAPD-NCIS Liaison Officer Martin "Marty" Deeks since 2010, shared the shocking revelation back on Dec. 31, just days ahead of the show's return from a brief holiday hiatus. Sharing a screenshot of his character in action, Olsen hyped up the episode, writing, "we about to get back into it." However, a closer look at the caption revealed potentially concerning news for NCIS: Los Angeles , the actor adding in a string of hashtags, "the final season," seemingly suggesting that NCIS: Los Angeles has been canceled and will not return for another season.

NCIS: Los Angeles premiered back in 2009 as the first spinoff in the NCIS franchise. The series follows the Los Angeles-based Office of Special Projects (OSP), an elite division of the Naval Criminal Investigative Service that specializes in undercover assignments.

Leon Schuster brings the bones back to the big screen

South Africans are laughing their heads off as the new trailer for blockbuster film Mr. Bones 3: Son of Bones, has just released. Featuring the beloved comedy pair Leon Schuster and Alfred “Shorty” Ntombela, the sidesplitting trailer shows the popular duo return, this time defending Kuvukiland from unscrupulous oil-diggers and treasure hunters. The film features a stellar cast including Tumi Morake, Sans Moonsammy, Daniel Janks, Sthandile Nkosi, Jay Anstey, and Jerry Mofokeng. Tobie Cronje and Bouwer Bosch feature in delightful cameo appearances.

Sixty years ago, in an obscure corner of Africa, the only survivor of a light aircraft crash was a baby boy. Perhaps it was the miracle of his survival that gave him the gift of “sight”, and he became a Sangoma, the seer of the Kuvuki tribe, interpreting the wishes of The Great One through the throwing of the bones. Hence his name, Bones (Schuster). Today, at an advanced age but still fit in mind and body, his mission is to pass on his wisdom to his son, Mathambo (Ntombela), and guide him into manhood, a mission doomed to fail because of both of their obsessive personalities.

The storyline of Mr. Bones 3: Son of Bones begins at the turn of the last century when we witness the burying of the Kruger millions by two Boer soldiers, who then kill each other through idiotic greed, leaving the Kruger millions hidden in a graveyard in Kuvukiland. Now, in the present, a scrawny businessman named Alvin (Moonsammy) and his Texan engineer partner named Jack (Janks), together with their beautiful guide, Gabrielle (Anstey) are plotting to mine for oil in the pristine land which would leave it an oily mess. Bones and Mathambo must devise a way to outsmart the opinionated Westerners. Of course, as their plan unfolds, so do many other unexpected twists and turns, with hilarious effect.

The Murder Of Dee Blanchard: From HBO To Telemundo Here's A List Of Brands That Documented Gypsy's Freedom From Her Abusive Mother

Dee Dee had been making her daughter pass herself off as younger and pretend to be disabled and chronically ill, subjecting her to unnecessary surgery and medication, and controlling her through physical and psychological abuse.

Gypsy Rose, daughter of Dee Dee is currently serving a 10-year sentence for second-degree murder while Godejohn was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

In 2017, HBO produced the documentary film Mommy Dead and Dearest directed by Erin Lee Carr about the murder and its relationship to Munchausen syndrome by proxy. The film includes interrogation footage and exclusive interviews with Nick Godejohn and incarcerated Gypsy Rose.

Later that year, The CBS network talk show Dr. Phil, episode "Mother Knows Best: A Story of Munchausen by Proxy and Murder" featuring interviews with Gypsy Rose, her father and step-mother.

In 2018, the American Broadcasting Company (ABC) news and information series Good Morning America, segment "Mother of All Murders" aired an exclusive in-prison interview with Gypsy Rose. The ABC network other series 20/20, did an episode titled "The Story of Gypsy Blanchard".

The Sony Entertainment Television channel series CID aired an episode titled "Death on Social Media" on 13 August 2017, based on the case but the setting for the episode was changed to India; the characters Aria and Aanchal were based on Gypsy and Dee Dee Blanchard respectively.

The Investigation Discovery channel series James Patterson's Murder is Forever episode "Mother of All Murders", season 1, episode 2, premiered on January 29, 2018. Investigation Discovery also aired a two-hour-long special documentary titled Gypsy's Revenge.

Love You to Death aired on Lifetime in January 2019, dramatizing the case as "inspired by true events". Marcia Gay Harden starred as the fictionalized version of Dee Dee, Emily Skeggs starred as Gypsy Rose's counterpart, Brennan Keel Cook starred as Nick's counterpart, and Tate Donovan starred as Rod's counterpart.

In 2019, the streaming service Hulu announced the creation of the true crime series The Act. The 8-episode miniseries is based on Michelle Dean's 2016 BuzzFeed article. Dean is an executive producer and writer for the first season of the series.

Later that year, Netflix web television series The Politician, the characters Infinity Jackson, Ricardo, and Dusty Jackson are respectively based on Gypsy Rose Blanchard, Nicholas Godejohn and Dee Dee Blanchard. Telemundo's Decisions 13th episode "Amor de madre" was also used to tell the tale.

Gypsy Rose's case has been treated more as a child abuse as opposed to her fiancee case which is murder. Her actions garnered media attention as opposed to her mother whose family flushed her ashes down the toilet.
