Case Closed Is Back By Popular Demand On Telemundo Africa, Saloni And East Meets West Coming Soon To SABC 2 And eVOD Makes Some Minor Adjustments

Miss Polo is back on Telemundo

As seen this past week, Telemundo silently ripped the Emmy nominated series Case Closed from its primetime offering for more repeats and this time it's known other than the series, Decisions.

The series first aired on the channel back in 2019 and since then became the most repeated program on Telemundo surpassing it's festive counterpart Christmas Miracles as the channel has a tendency of using the show as a plot filler to new content.

Now Case Closed will undergo the same treatment this time for 100 Days To Fall In Love which ends 14 February leaving Miss Polo to keep viewers at ease for the next 6 days as the channel introduces Nurses.

The Indians are coming to SABC 2

According to sources, SABC 2 will re-enter the world of Bollywood after a decade with two newly furnished soaps formerly seen on the channel alongside Zee World, Saloni and East Meets West (Saath Saath).

Based on the lives of two grandsons of a Punjabi family (the Singh's) from Delhi, who marry girls who are culturally and geographically poles apart from each other. One hails from a small town in Punjab while the other is an NRI who has been brought up across the seven seas. The story takes many turns, romantic, emotional, dramatic and purely funny when the two girls start living under the same roof in East Meets West.

Saloni, who despite being dark-skinned, sets out to prove that it doesn't matter what skin colour you might be. She marries Nahar and begins her journey fulfilling the seven rounds she took at her marriage. Saloni faces many problems, particularly, discrimination for her skin colour. However she is talented and sets out on a journey, to create an identity for herself.

The series are said to follow The Heir on eExtra which include the English audio formerly seen on Zee World and currently available on Zee One.

Here's a list of updates about eVOD

Following the end of the free eVOD data promotion with MTN, the platform underwent some minor changes.

- Afrikaans Premium was shortened to Afrikaans.
- The Heir currently seen on eExtra has been added onto the platform.
- The eOriginals section has been updated to include the eVOD productions.

Cartoon Network Africa Might Be Getting A Preschool Block And What Fate Possibly Awaits Boomerang Africa If Cartoonito Choose To Launch As A Block?

Oh, oh, oh Cartoon Network

Last month, there was a string of announcements regarding Cartoonito one of which included it's return to Boomerang with Cartoon Network serving as an additional home making it a double whammy.

The reasons for Cartoon Network is justified as stated last year they want to create content that resonates with preschoolers, families and girls so the idea of Cartoonito surfacing on Cartoon Network as doesn't seem far fetched.

Why the outdated music brand VH1 Classic was terminated on DStv?
2022 on Disney+ ahead of launch in South Africa

Most markets already package the brand on the channel other than that the originals are being produced by CN Studios. On the bright side it doesn't get as much time as seen in the United States you usually get an hour or two of preschool as the rest is on Boomerang.

- Could fan made Cartoon Network logo be the future logo for the channel?

Likelihood is that the same will occur in Africa which is probably for the best as Boomerang has been labelled as a premium tier in some regions while the other has to do with CN's focus on Teen Titans GO!.

Cartoonito returns but as what exactly?

In Europe, the region in which Boomerang currently available to African viewers reside have all announced the return or launch of Cartoonito with no update as to when the refurbished preschool brand will return (my guess March or April).

Since last year, viewers have been worried about the abrupt ending to Boomerang as seen in Latin America where the channel was folded under Cartoonito but as seen in these changes. There's still a chance for all of that to change...for now.

Cartoonito is expected to launch in some parts of Europe and the likelihood is whatever preschool content Boomerang managed to pick up or is currently airing will move to Cartoonito and WarnerMedia will shift attention away from the brand as HBO Max rolls out in the market.

If I had to guess, the brand will likely dissolve by 2023.

Insidus Content Roundup #8: 50 Cent Working On Docuseries Hip-Hop Homicides, Amber (Heard) Vs. Johnny (Depp) Two Part Documentary Currently Streaming On Discovery+ And Could Malverde: El Santo Patrón Launch On Telemundo Africa?

50 Cent working on a docuseries, Hip-Hop Homicides

50 Cent is producing a new series that will look into the countless unsolved murders in the rap community. Hip Hop Homicides will be produced via G-Unit Film & Television, along with Mona Scott-Young’s Monami Productions and Lionsgate Television.

The series is hosted by Van Lathan, the former TMZ personality who hosted Oscar-winning short film Two Distant Strangers.

2022 on HBO Max including Peacemaker and a Batman Christmas special

Hip-Hop Homicides will look into the staggering number of unsolved murders in the hip-hop community in an attempt to uncover details of what really happened.

Discovery+ has ordered Johnny Vs. Amber

Heard and Depp's messy romance ended in 2016 when Heard filed for divorce, with both accusing each other of domestic abuse. The program would tell the infamous story from "two polarized perspectives,” featuring interviewers with lawyers, people “close to the pair,” and audio and video recordings of Depp and Heard themselves.

Johnny and Amber is set to continue on April 11, 2022.

Could Telemundo air its first biographical series starting with Malverde: The Patron Saint?

Set in 1910 and inspired by real-life events, the series follows Jesús Malverde, a young man from Sinaloa, Mexico that became a legendary figure and defender of the people. Malverde had a troubled childhood as an orphan where he experienced the trials of war, danger and love as he amassed unexpected power. Over time, he becomes a Robin Hood-like heroic figure, admired by women of all social classes. However, Jesús remains tormented by his unexpected feelings for his childhood love, Isabel. As federal authorities see increasing danger in Malverde's growing power during the early days of the Mexican Revolution, it will take more than love to keep at bay all those who seek to destroy the hero known to the faithful as "The Patron Saint".

Over the years, Telemundo has passed up on several biographical dramas such as José José, El Príncipe De La Canción (José José, The Price Of Song), Mariposa De Barrio (Butterfly Of The Neighborhood). Since the pandemic, the brand has undergone some major changes the first was Case Closed (Caso Cerrado) and the second was the switch from 5 to 7 days a week.

As some are aware the brand doesn't have a lot to offer on their plate so it would be almost impossible to turn down series. Since last year, they've been distributing several content from Colombia's RCN Television such as Law Of The Heart and the upcoming series Nurses and The Scent Of Passion.

How long do you suppose it will be till this series airs? I mean The Search For Frida will end in the coming months and Case Closed is nowhere in site not to mention the super series slot ain't dead just yet as viewers are still waiting on Operation Pacific 2 and Queen Of The South 3.

eMedia Updates: What Happened To The Free 4GB eVOD Data? And Modern Family Returns For A 10th Season On e.tv

The eVOD bonanza has come to an end

Last year, e.tv launched their leaked streaming service eVOD (e-Video-On-Demand) as a so-called freemium streamer with over 2 500 hours of content at launch, including different premium subscription tiers for exclusive content.

e.tv plans to spend at least R100 million per year on creating brand-new local content for eVOD that will include 4 eOriginal series and 10 original South African feature films, and the plan is to add the streaming of live linear TV channels on eVOD in the future.

Within those strings of announcements, it was mentioned MTN consumers would recieve 4GB of eVOD data until 31 January 2022. Some people were probably not aware, thought eMedia forgot about the whole thing or it slipped their minds.

eVOD offers the latest episodes of High Society: Scandal before eExtra
eToonz needs these improvements

Opinion: this 4GB promotion should have never been introduced or at least not initially as most consumers were likely latching onto the platform with that little data available.

eVOD will need to pull up their socks if they hope to reach the level of other streamers available in the market including MultiChoice's Showmax, Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and soon to be launched Disney+ streaming service.

Update: the promotion has been extended until further notice.

More returning shows for e.tv

With Superstore and The Goldbergs out the window, e.tv South Africa's first independent free-to-air entertainment and most watched English channel adds the 10th season of Modern Family.

On the first episode of the tenth season titled "I Love A Parade", The family gets together for the annual Fourth of July parade where Jay acts as the grand marshal. Haley's farewell to Arvin doesn't go as well as expected and she is distracted by the return of an old flame namely Dylan. Phil and Luke want to compete in a hot dog contest which they do and win, while Claire is trained by Alex in cocooning. Also, Mitch and Cam want to show that they can raise Cal by trying to make a video to send to Pam who is in prison, showing Cal doing something new like catching a ball or knowing addition.

Season 10 of Modern Family replaces The Goldbergs at 19:30 from 6 February.

In other developments, e.tv will introduce 2 shows The Mighty Ones and The Lego City (not Lego City Adventures) to their youth block Craze and Kurt En Shura will replace Dokter Ali later this month.
