HBO Max And Discovery+ To Merge Under The New WarnerMedia And Discovery Inc's New Company Warner Bros. Discovery

Discovery CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels says the mega-merger of Discovery and WarnerMedia — with an eventual combination of the Discovery+ and HBO Max streaming services — is on track for a mid-2022 closing.

“We’re in the ninth inning right now, in closing that transaction,” Wiedenfels told the Deutsche Bank Annual Media, Internet & Telecom Conference during a session that was webcast. He argued that combining the subscriber acquisition power of HBO Max with the customer retention power of Discovery+ content will “make for a blowout DTC (direct-to-consumer) product and that should certainly drive very healthy revenue growth for years to come.”

Wiedenfels also discussed the direct-to-consumer strategy following the merger of AT&T’s Warner Bros. with Discovery that will see an early bundling of Discovery+ and HBO Max, followed by eventually combining both streaming services into one consumer offering and platform. “We will start working on an interim solution in the meantime. So right out of the gate, we’re working on getting the bundling approach ready, maybe a single sign-on,” he said.

The goal is to get early benefits from the merger. “But the main thrust is going to be harmonizing the technology platforms, building one very strong combined direct-to-consumer product and platform, and that’s going to take a while,” Wiedenfels added.

The Discovery financial chief said most major milestones toward finalizing the merger of Discovery and WarnerMedia had been reached. On Friday, Discovery shareholders formally approved the mega-combination of the factual and lifestyle media powerhouse Discovery with AT&T’s entertainment arm. The final green light for the mega-deal came at a special shareholder meeting held online; shareholders of AT&T, led by CEO John Stankey, do not need to vote on the combination.

Last month, the merger received approval from the U.S. Department of Justice, the key regulatory hurdle for the merger. The European Commission, the executive body of the European Union, had approved the deal in December.

In the big deal, AT&T will spin off WarnerMedia and merge it with Discovery, with AT&T shareholders set to receive an estimated 0.24 share in the new company for each AT&T share held. AT&T stockholders will end up owning 71 percent of the new Warner Bros. Discovery, with Discovery shareholders holding the rest.

During his investor conference appearance, Wiedenfels returned to a familiar theme for his company, with the newly merged Discovery and WarnerMedia entity aiming to become a free cash flow machine. “We’re ready to generate a significant amount of synergies. We’re very bullish on our ability to drive free cash flow and delever the company very quickly, and position us for sustained free cash flow growth for many years to come,” he argued.

Discovery CEO David Zaslav will run the merged giant, with Wiedenfels serving as the new company’s CFO. Wiedenfels said early cost savings will come from reducing corporate overheads from the combined merger assets. And he reiterated that Discovery is eyeing $3 billion in annual cost synergies so far from the merger.

Synergies from combining HBO Max and Discovery+ will take longer to secure as the product and technology stacks of both streaming services had to be combined. “The teams are standing ready and everyone is super-excited to get going,” Wiedenfels said.

Amid an increasing Wall Street focus on the profitability outlook for streaming services, both executives recently also vowed that the merged company would focus on growth in streaming, but not at any price. Wiedenfels promised a “conservative approach” to streaming content spending. And Zaslav said that “we plan on being careful and judicious,” summarizing the approach this way: “Our goal is to compete with the leading streaming services, not to win the spending war.”

Insidus Games: Wario's Woods Brings Out A Major Spin From The Usual Mario - FREE APK DOWNLOAD

Genre: Puzzle
Developer: Nintendo

Wario is a great twist on the typical Mario theme. Best of all, it's all new and that is what I want to see in a game. The music is pretty good, and it's a nice change from the usual Mario theme. It controls well, but Wario looks like a big blur on the screen, and this adds to the difficulty. The play mechanics are just right and as usual Nintendo comes through with another hit. Now how about this on Super NES?

It's a whole new adventure starring Mario's archenemy and it's good. Finding and using the various hats add a new dimension to the Mario theme. Those with short attention spans, be warned. These levels are huge and luckily, there's a battery back-up to save your progress. The game has lots of hidden goodies in the floors and walls to keep adventurous people happy. This is a fun one to play.

This is another great portable cart from the programming wizards at Nintendo. Wario Land has all the elements of a great portable game: great graphics, good sound, superb play control, amusing characters, and a good story. Wario's new charge attack is a fresh idea to attack the enemies, a welcome new feature. The down side to the game was that it was kind of easy. This is an excellent choice for Mario fans.

All right Nintendo, stop the teasing! With very good Mario spinoffs like this one, I just want another 16-Bit Mario game more and more! Wario Land has plenty of action, power ups, and good graphics (among other things) to keep anyone's interest. The control is very good (this is portable, remember), but things are a bit on the easy side. Still, fans of Mario-type games will definitely want this one.

Xposed Replaces Rewind And News And Sport On Openview But There's A Catch

Also Read

Earlier in the month, there's been several reports that Openview customers would be losing the News And Sport channel as it was no longer viable as a news service and it will not appeal to audiences as a documentary and current affairs channel.

Several weeks later, eMedia Investments launched a brand new channel, Xposed which did exactly what would not appeal to the audience but at the expense of Rewind and likely News And Sport.

Details of the channel's content hasn't been shared with the media if I had to guess the channel will take the remaining content seen on News And Sport such as Impact Wrestling's library and infuse what little is left of Rewind.

e.tv is making some further changes to the primetime offering by adding more local content which inturn kills off Days Of Our Lives and the 20:30 international slot which was also available on Rewind for series like NCIS: Los Angeles and Chicago PD.

Xposed doesn't really cater to Rewind if anything it kind of feels like eMedia gave News And Sport a new coat of paint, scrapped 80% of the existing offering and moved it to another channel number to get it close with the other eChannels.

From April 11th, the only international thing on e.tv would be Judge Judy or Paternity Court, Craze block which will likely be discontinued in future alongside eToonz, wrestling, the movies which might not exist in the afternoons on weekends and the sitcoms at 19:30.

Taking that to consideration, there's not much left for Rewind as e.tv wants to make themselves look like SABC 1 which in turn has a lot of content that can be bundled onto their own streaming service.

Cartoonito Might Return Between April And May As Boomerang Africa And Likely The Rest Of EMEA Pick Up Several Preschool Series

Cartoonito rolled it out on Boomerang in most parts of Europe last month with Asia scheduled to launch the brand on Cartoon Network later this month. WarnerMedia EMEA remains silent when asked about a timeframe viewers have to wait on the content launching on the brand.

According to source last month, Cartoonito won't launch in Central Eastern Europe until at least April 30th implying that EMEA will only get it around that period if not sooner.

Apparently, a list of preschool content had surfaced which includes several shows such as Dino Ranch (likely new episodes), the fifth season of "Russia's" Masha And The Bear and the new which is a reboot of Thomas And Friends franchise with the extended title All Engines Go!

Boomerang is expected to air all this in the month of April and this could only mean one thing, Cartoonito. WarnerMedia has been using Thomas And Friends: All Engines Go! as a ploy to introduce the brand as seen in Latin America and MENA where the show launched ahead of Cartoonito.

WarnerMedia lists these shows under Boomerang and not Cartoonito so it's likely coming in May as viewers in CEE won't see the brand until April 30th.

"Russia's" - several companies have stopped distributing products from these regions so what are the chances that Masha And The Bear will be phased out in these attempts.

Is'phindiselo Or Housewives Likely Occupying The Sunday 8pm Slot Once Reserved For Movies Which Air An Hour Later From April

Also Read

A few days ago, eMedia Investments announced that Days Of Our Lives would be scrapped from e.tv next month as they shift focus on building their local offering as seen on their streaming service, eVOD.

Considering how much cutbacks they've been under their umbrella this doesn't surprise me the least bit especially for Days Of Our Lives which has been allocated in several timeslots inbetween 4pm to 6pm and also not on eVOD just like Impact.

The CBS drama isn't the only program exiting the channel apparently even the 8:30pm timeslot known for series like Chicago PD and New Amsterdam will be used for more local dramas.

We know Imbewu, Isono and The Black Door will be sitting in that timeslot and Sunday will have a "local drama series" playing at 8pm as movies come right after just like SABC 3.

"Local drama series" could only mean one thing either Housewives or likely Is'phindiselo will be occupying that timeslot as the channel is trying to align themselves with eVOD and adding eKasi: Our Stories would be a low blow on their part.

eKasi Our Stories has aired as much as Anaconda, Fast And The Furious and even those Schuster movies e.tv love so much but considering how committed they are to that timeslot it wouldn't surprise me if Is'phindiselo or Housewives aired.

MultiChoice a pay-tv company with millions of DStv customers refused to share consumer numbers as the figures are weak so imagine how many people actually use eVOD so this move would actually help bring in more revenue and potentially kill some viewers.
